Exclusive: Amazon Studios has made a deal to develop the comedy adventure Lost and Found as a starring vehicle for Gina Rodriguez and Zachary Levi, with Steve Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine) directing. Pink and Jeff Morris wrote the script, about a headstrong lawyer and an off-the-grid renegade who reluctantly team up to find a long-lost buried treasure by the Mississippi River.
Rodriguez is producing with Molly Breeskin under their banner I Can and I Will Productions.
Rodriguez most recently starred in Kajillionaire for Focus Features, the Netflix rom-com Someone Great and Scoob! Her past past films include Deepwater Horizon, Ferdinand, Annihilation and the Miss Bala remake. Have you ever wondered why there hasn’t been a movie based on Slime? No? Me neither. But here we are, expecting a movie based on Slime. We complain that there aren’t enough original ideas in Hollywood, and then when they give us something original, we complain some more. Let’s clean up our act and give Slime a chance. Or something like that.
The movie will get its script from writing partners Steve Pink and Jeff Morris, with Pink directing. The Deadline exclusive says the movie will be a “family action adventure film,” “about a slime experiment gone wrong.” So we don’t have a lot to go on for now, but judging by the writers, there actually is a glimmer of hope that they could pull off a fun movie with a solid story. Pink has been at the helm of two of my favorite shows, Santa Clarita Diet and Cobra Kai,...

Exclusive: Paramount Players has acquired Slime, a pitch for a family action-adventure film that will be scripted by writing partners Steve Pink and Jeff Morris. Pink will direct it. Pic is about a slime experiment gone wrong. Slime of course has long been a staple of sister network Nickelodeon.
This was a last-minute bidding situation, and Paramount Players pre-emptively took it off the table before the holidays. Jeremy Stein brought the project in, met with Morris to discuss and got it sold immediately on his first week at his new job with Davis Entertainment.
Pink directed the Hot Tub Time Machine films and About Last Night for Screen Gems. He has been helming TV shows including Cobra Kai, Santa Clarita Diet and the upcoming Wayne for YouTube. Pink and Morris have projects in development including Failure to Appear and The Yank at Sony, as well as Cop Swap at MGM.

So its been over a fortnight since Chris and myself got back from Cinci and although we shared our experiences on episode #90 of the 365 podcast, I also wanted to do a cheeky little write up for the website…
First off we have said it about a hundred times but we can’t thank Matt and Andrew enough for having us over to the Expo and looking after us leading up to the event. Also to the History of Bad Ideas lads who made us feel so at home, as if we have known them for about 20 years instead of the actual 2 and a bit. Meeting them face to face was honestly something i thought would never happen. Special shout out to Jeffrey Nau for being our chauffeur.

Here comes the Kevin James digital boom. Friday’s release of James’ latest film, Netflix’s “True Memoirs of an International Assassin,” marks a significant milestone in the 51-year-old actor’s career. After starring in more than half a dozen studio movies for Columbia Pictures — including two “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” films that together grossed nearly $300 million worldwide — James’ signature brand of family-friendly comedy has landed at Netflix, where 86 million subscribers will be able to watch “True Memoirs” from the comfort of their own homes.

Wait – an original Netflix comedy that doesn’t star Adam Sandler? It’s real! True Memoirs Of An International Assassin only mines from Sandler’s comedian crew for lead actor Kevin James, with no cameos in sight. I mean, you try pitching a movie as “Spy, but starring a guy!” without James’ name immediately thrown into the mix. That’s what you’re getting here. A Venezuelan spy thriller about some random Joe obsessed with tactical espionage training, who finds out that being a secret agent is even harder than it looks. It’s a fish-out-of-water comedy with deadly consequences – and not a whole lot of substance.
James stars as Sam Larson, a hopeful writer whose first book – Memoirs Of An International Assassin – gets marketed as non-fiction by an ambitious publicist (played by Kelen Coleman). Book sales take off, which brings a lot of attention to Sam. He gets as...

Kevin James’ new sitcom “Kevin Can Wait” debuted to strong ratings, proving that the comedian’s fan base is still intact. Now the actor is going from retired policeman to international hitman in his upcoming Netflix comedy “True Memoirs of an International Assassin.”
Directed by “Kick-Ass 2” helmer Jeff Wadlow and written by Jeff Morris, the film follows an aspiring writer whose life is changed after his fictional novel about a deadly assassin is published as nonfiction. Sega’s 1991 video game Rent-a-Hero is getting a big screen adaptation and Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink is set to direct the film, which he will also co-write with Jeff Morris. This came completely out of nowhere! This game hasn’t even crossed my mind since it was released.
Rent-a- Hero was a role-playing action video game series released by Sega that put a large emphasis on humor, which is why Pink is the guy who was brought in to direct it. It actually sounds like the movie could be a lot of fun.
According to THR, the story will follow “a slacker genius as he joins a tech startup that is billed as an ‘Uber for heroes,’ only to find out that company insiders are planning on weaponizing the technology, leaving the protagonist and his Rent-a-Hero comrades to stop them.”

The latest video-game-to-movie adaptation will update an obscure Sega Mega Drive title from 1992 about a young superhero for hire
An obscure Sega Mega Drive title about a slacker who becomes a superhero for hire is the latest video game to become a candidate for a big-screen adaptation, according to Deadline.
Rent-a-Hero, first released in 1992, has a backstory in which a small-town Japanese kid orders a pizza and instead receives a suit of power armour. Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink (who also co-wrote Grosse Pointe Blank and High Fidelity) is on board to direct, and will write the script with Jeff Morris (The True Memoirs of an International Assassin).

Looks like Kevin James is going to be leading a Netflix original film, and despite the above featured image, it is a not a Paul Blart: Mall Cop movie. The streaming service has announced today that the actor/comedian will be heading the film entitled True Memoirs Of An International Assassin.
The film's synopsis is as follows:
"A mild-mannered would-be author gets mistaken for a killer-for-hire when his fictional novel about an international assassin is published as a true story. The book is a huge success and he is suddenly kidnapped and taken to Venezuela and forced into an assassination plot."
True Memoirs Of An International Assassin is directed by Jeff Wadlow, who is likely best known for directing Kick-ass 2, and will be hitting Netflix some time in 2016.

Netflix left its mark at Cannes yesterday by acquiring worldwide distribution rights to Kevin James action-comedy The True Memoirs of an International Assassin. The purchase furthers the streaming service’s aggressive forays into feature distribution, especially given that the budget is said to be on the scale of other James titles, including Sony Pictures’ Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 and Zookeeper.
Under the terms of the deal, The True Memoirs of an International Assassin will be presented as a “Netflix event,” debuting exclusively on the streaming service next year and entirely circumventing a theatrical release. Major theater chains like AMC and Regal have been vocal in their opposition to Netflix failing to observe the traditional release model of a theatrical bow followed by home media release, so one can imagine those companies are none-too-happy to hear about the streaming service’s latest acquisition.

Netflix already has a four-film deal in place with Adam Sandler, and now, the streaming video platform has picked up a film featuring a frequent Sandler co-star. Kevin James, who most recently appeared in the critically-savaged sequel Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, will star in The True Memoirs Of An International Hit Man, which Netflix has acquired.
In True Memoirs, James plays an author who must flee to Belize after he is mistaken for an assassin. While James’ auspicious filmography, Mall Cop 2’s 6% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and the recent issues that have plagued Netflix’s other comedy film projects may make potential viewers less than excited about True Memoirs, the film does have a few enticing elements going for it. Its director, Jeff Waldow, led superhero sequel Kick Ass 2, and its script, written by Jeff Morris, comes from Hollywood’s Black List, which notes the best unproduced screenplays of each year.

Kevin James.s latest comedy, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, may not be the runaway success of the previous film, but it.s found decent box office success, raking in $76 million worldwide so far. We.re used to seeing him as a schluby, bumbling everyman, but for his next role, James is up to something very different, playing a real life assassin, or at least someone mistaken for one. Deadline reports that the star of such films as Here Comes the Boom and Grown Ups is set to headline The True Memoirs of an International Assassin. Jeff Wadlow, who helmed the superhero sequel Kick-Ass 2, will direct. The script comes from Jeff Morris, and landed on a recent edition of the Black List, an annual collection of the best, as-yet-unproduced scripts floating around Hollywood. After stinking up the multiplex with Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 last month, is Kevin James finally searching for critical redemption? Nah, don’t think so. The actor has signed on to star in comedy The True Memoirs of an International Assassin, with Blart producer Todd Garner returning in the same capacity and Jeff Sussman (Zookeeper) exec-producing.
The pic, to be directed by Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2, the upcoming Masters of the Universe) from a Black List script by Jeff Morris, will center on a bumbling, mild-mannered accountant who tries his hand at novel-writing, only for his book about an international assassin to top the charts – as a non-fiction memoir. Bombarded by publicity and unsure of how to deal with a world that now believes him to be a stone-cold killer, he vacations in Belize. Predictably, he ends up snared in an actual assassination plot in the Central American country...

Late in Lifetime's "Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever" TV-movie, the cat that launched a thousand memes objects to a plot twist by asking, "Is this not my movie?" The film (it debuts Saturday night at 8), written by "SpongeBob" vet and "Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties" director Tim Hill (who also directed this) and Jeff Morris, seems at war with itself as to how much it should — or can — be Grumpy Cat's movie, and the answer is "not enough," unfortunately. But at least the movie is aware of that problem, since it opens with Grumpy Cat (aka Tardar Sauce) — played in voiceover by Aubrey Plaza, in a piece of casting that feels like destiny — getting excited at the thought of how disappointed we'll be "when you realize this movie is just a sappy melodrama about me, Grumpy Cat." Except it's only vaguely about Grumpy Cat, and primarily about Chrystal...

This holiday season, Lifetime will attempt to answer the question that has been plaguing filmmakers everywhere since the dawn of social media – can we realistically pad an internet meme out to feature length? If the trailer for Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever is anything to go by, the answer is, unsurprisingly, a resounding ‘no.’ Or, to quote the TV movie’s highly inventive tagline, “Ho ho no.”
Remember the 2001 film Cats And Dogs – a live-action movie featuring real animals with human voices, acting out an amusing caper, with a stellar cast led by Jeff Goldblum, Sean Hayes and Tobey Maguire? That was an enjoyable project in its day, thirteen years ago. Now, here we are, in 2014, watching a trailer for a movie about a cat who became a web sensation by looking perpetually unimpressed. If I were the feline involved in Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever, I too...

"Hot Tub Time Machine" writer-director Steve Pink is slated to co-write and direct the polic comedy "Cop Swap" for MGM. The studio picked up the project after a bidding war broke out over the weekend for it.
Pink and Jeff Morris are penning the script which deals with an actual international exchange program where cops from all over the world come to America.
In the story a L.A.P.D. cop who doesn't fit in with his colleagues is assigned to babysit a group of international cops undergoing a one-year internship, a group full of officers considered misfits by their departments back home. They soon stumble upon a major crime.
Nicky Weinstock will produce. Pink remains attached to direct Fox's "Vacation Friends" starring real life husband-and-wife Chris Pratt and Anna Faris.

Grumpy Cat speaks! Or, more accurately, Aubrey Plaza is going to be speaking as Grumpy Cat in an upcoming Lifetime original movie. Titled "Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever," the new film will feature the cat in question (real name Tardar Sauce) as "a lonely feline living in a mall pet shop." As for the grumpiness, the synopsis explains that, "Because she never gets chosen by customers, she develops a sour outlook on life." It is true that most cats can't talk, and in the film only one person will be able to hear Grumpy Cat speak. That is a 12-year-old girl, Chrystal, who meets Grumpy Cat at the mall and develops a relationship with her. The movie is directed by Tim Hill who has plenty of experience with talking animals having directed "Alvin and the Chipmunks" and "Garfield 2." He also co-wrote the screenplay for this original alongside Jeff Morris, who...

Today in casting so perfect it’s like God himself did it, Parks and Recreation star Aubrey Plaza will lend her voice to Grumpy Cat in Lifetime’s live-action Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever.
The movie, written by Tim Hill (Alvin and the Chipmunks) and Jeff Morris (The True Memoirs of an International Assassin), follows a lonely cat (played by Grumpy Cat herself, Tardar Sauce) who becomes, well, grumpy living in a mall pet shop. That is, until a 12-year-old girl named Chrystal realizes she can talk to the feline. On Christmas Eve, Chrystal rescues her after the mall closes.

Grumpy Cat is to appear in a new Lifetime film, Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever.
The internet's favourite misanthropic feline will star as an overlooked pet-store cat that can communicate with a 12-year-old girl.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lifetime's vice president of original movies Arturo Interian said of the film: "It brings fun and irreverence that we haven't had at Lifetime... We're so known for our heartfelt sentimentality that it will poke fun at those stereotypes."
He added that the idea was originally given to him by his teenage daughters.
The show will be written by SpongeBob SquarePants' Tim Hill and Jeff Morris.
Grumpy Cat celebrated her second birthday recently at a party in New York, but didn't look particularly pleased to be there.
The cat also appeared at the 2014 MTV Movie Awards wearing a mini Mountie hat, imitating the one made famous by Pharrell Williams.

We are huge advocates of adorable animals on the Internet, but can we give Grumpy Cat a break? The frowny-faced feline has become a cottage industry after being "discovered" on Reddit. Besides the usual T-shirts and calendars and books, there's even Grumppuccino[Tm] Coffee, SXSW appearances, and front row seats at the MTV Movie Awards.
Now the cat known as Tardar Sauce to her friends and loved ones is getting her very own feature film, "Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever." (Actually, if anyone can really express the down side of Christmas, it would be this sad little cat that was born with a morose expression.) In the film, Grumpy is a sad kitty stuck in a pet store that never gets picked for a forever home until she encounters a young gal "who can communicate with her." That's in quotes because we're not sure how one communicates with a cat.

Comedians often want to be action heroes, and traditional action stars often try too hard to be funny. Which helps explain why Will Ferrell frequently targets projects that allow him to fire a gun or chase down a bad guy. and he might have just picked up his latest effort in that genre. Columbia Pictures has picked up a pitch called The Yank, which the studio is eyeing as a potential starring vehicle for the Anchorman star, according to Variety. If the movie is to pan out, Will Ferrell would play an innocent insurance courier who bumbles into a grand conspiracy to steal the Crown Jewels from their display in London. The trade says that Steve Pink (who penned High Fidelity and Grosse Pointe Blank) will share screenwriting duties with Jeff Morris. The comedy will be produced by Ferrell.s shingle, Gary Sanchez Productions. As noted, this isn.t Will...
