Sunny Hostin, cohost on “The View,” called out Charlamagne Tha God for being “irresponsible” in his comments comparing President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump during an appearance on the show earlier this week.
“I thought it was irresponsible to say that both candidates are trash,” she said on “The View” podcast “Behind the Table,” adding, “when you’re comparing President Biden, someone who’s done incredible things for this country, and someone who is facing 88 charges, and four indictments, and is clearly criminal, in my view.”
Charlamagne delivered his comments while on “The View” to promote his new book, “Get Honest or Die Lying: Why Small Talk Sucks.” Hostin wanted to know why he’s said he won’t be endorsing Biden in the coming election, despite his negative views on Trump being public knowledge. Charlamagne Tha God was a guest on The View to promote his book Get Honest or Die Lying and starred in a tense moment with the morning co-hosts.
Sunny Hostin asked the radio personality why he has not openly endorsed Joe Biden in his presidential reelection as he did in 2020.
“Well, since this book is all about having real conversations, let’s get to it. Let’s get real,” Hostin told Charlamagne. “You have a massive platform, reaching millions of listeners. You and I have talked about this before. You endorsed Joe Biden back in 2020, but this time around, you said you’re not going to endorse anybody. Charlamagne, now is not the time, in my opinion, to sit this one out.”
Charlamagne said, “I didn’t say that,” clarifying and adding, “I’m definitely voting in November but what I like to focus on is issues, not individuals.”

Killer Mike was detained at the 66th Grammy Awards at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles Sunday afternoon, shortly after winning three of the four rap categories in the pre-show telecast about two hours earlier.
An LAPD source tells Rolling Stone that Michael Santiago Render (Killer Mike’s real name) was handcuffed and detained after an alleged “physical altercation” inside the arena involving a third party. “Somebody complains, obviously we have to do something about it,” the source said. Render was questioned and later booked for misdemeanor battery, according to the LAPD.

Ventureland is teaming with podcast companies Campside Media and Tenderfoot TV on a new doc and companion podcast chronicling the fight around Atlanta’s “Cop City.”
The film will explore the politics, activism and turmoil that has surrounded the development of the 85-acre police and fire training center — set to be one of the largest facilities like it in the United States and located in a preserved forest — since it was announced by the city’s then-Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms back in Spring 2021. Currently in development, the doc will include on-the-ground reporting and key subjects who can shed light on the political flashpoint being constructed within the unofficial capital of the American South.
“The debate over Cop City is a microcosm of what’s happening in cities across the country,” says Campside co-founder Matthew Shaer. “It brings together all these different discussions: About race, about policing, about urban development and environmental resources.

Tyler Perry and T.D. Jakes got the go-ahead from local authorities Thursday to purchase over 130 acres in Atlanta including a proposed expansion of Tyler Perry Studios for an entertainment district with theaters, retail shops and restaurants.
Perry will acquire 37 acres adjacent to Tyler Perry Studios, adding to the more than 330 acres he purchased in 2015 and grew into one of the biggest production facilities in the country.
Religious leader, author and filmmaker Jakes is buying 94 acres. Both purchases were approved by the Fort Mac Lra Board (McPherson Implementing Local Redevelopment Authority), which is overseeing the reuse of a 145-acre former military base site in southwest Atlanta.
“Today is a good day. I’m grateful for the opportunity this gives Tyler Perry Studios to extend our footprint in Atlanta and create more opportunities for the people of Southwest Atlanta with restaurants, entertainment venues, and other business opportunities,” Perry said in a statement.

Actor and comedian Eric Andre alleges he was racially profiled by two police officers in an Atlanta airport before boarding a flight on Wednesday.
Andre made the claims in a series of tweets, alleging that two plainclothes officers stopped him at the Delta terminal in the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and performed a random drug search on him. He claimed the search was due to racial profiling and that he was the only person of color in line when the officers stopped him.

With a newly elected Democratic president, this is the season of speculation, where names are being floated as potential ambassador picks. And this time around, Disney’s executive chairman Bob Iger is getting attention as a prospect for one of the highest profile foreign posts, China.
But while there is a lot of talk of Iger and others (including Comcast’s David L. Cohen and former MPA chairman Chris Dodd), it’s still just that: talk.
Not only is it premature, but the polarization in the Senate could make things dicey for any nominee, much less one who comes from the ranks of Hollywood, a favorite punching bag of the right.

After debuting her new “Commander in Chief” song earlier in the day, Demi Lovato delivered an emotive version of the protest song Wednesday night on the Billboard Music Awards telecast — a powerful anti-Trump message for NBC to be putting on the air, especially the night before the network is to host a controversial town hall with the president.
But after the telecast aired, it seemed to be stirring more controversy among the left than the right, surprisingly, as a result of a TMZ report about edits made to the performance by the network. The website published what it said was the original edit of Lovato’s performance, in which a large electronic backdrop was to have lit up at the end, revealing the word “Vote” in huge white letters. Joe Biden’s presidential campaign is again drawing on support from musical artists to boost turnout among African Americans, as Jeezy, the rapper, singer and songwriter, will appear on Thursday at a campaign roundtable focused on issues facing Black men.
Joining him for the event will be actor Sean Patrick Thomas; Jeff Johnson, founder and curator of Men Thrive; Michigan State Representative Jewell Jone and Dr. David Marion, grand basileus of Omega Psi Phi fraternity. The focus will be on Covid-19 and how it has affected Black men.
Jeezy met Biden last year at an event with Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, but at the time he clarified that he was not endorsing him in advance of the state’s Democratic primary.
He had said that he has not met Kamala Harris, Biden’s running mate, in person, but got a chance to speak to her on a call.

“The whole world ’bout to testify,” Janelle Monáe promises on the song and music video for “Turntables.” It is the multifaceted artist’s first song since 2019’s “That’s Enough,” for the Disney+ live-action remake of Lady and the Tramp.
The song is featured in All In: The Fight for Democracy. Directed by Liz Garbus and Lisa Cortés (The Remix: Hip Hop X Fashion), the Amazon Studios documentary is about voter suppression which is being released in tandem with the studio’s #AllInForVoting bipartisan campaign. The campaign intends to inspire voter turnout during the 2020 presidential election season. And what is more inspiring than a Janelle Monáe song? Her last album, Dirty Computer, which was released two years ago, ended with the anthemic “Americans.”
Working with long-time collaborator Nate “Rocket” Wonder, Monáe amplifies the voices of people putting themselves on the front line. Directed by Child, the song’s accompanying emotion...

Janelle Monáe has been gerrymandered. Back when Atlanta’s Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms was running for office in 2017, last-minute changes to where she qualified to vote kept her from casting a ballot for Bottoms. Stacey Abrams’ widely contested gubernatorial race against Brian Kemp a year later proved triggering for Monáe as 300,000 Georgians were incorrectly deemed ineligible to vote.
“I saw Brian Kemp steal the election,” she says, calling from Los Angeles where she currently resides. Thankfully, her voting status had been sorted out before Abrams ran against Kemp so Monáe...

Joe Biden delivers the most important speech of his political career tonight on the finale of the Democratic Convention, but he’ll also have a bit of counter-programming by President Donald Trump.
In the hour before Biden delivers his acceptance speech, Trump is scheduled to be interviewed by Sean Hannity on Fox News’ Hannity, several hours after the president trekked to Biden’s childhood hometown of Scranton, Pa to give a speech.
The highlight of the Democratic Convention, to start at 9 Pm Et, will be Biden’s acceptance speech, and the campaign has given a hint of its tone with the theme of the evening, America’s Promise.
Also scheduled to give remarks are Biden’s children, Ashley and Hunter. The latter has been a low-key presence during the campaign, but was a target of Republicans during the Democrats’ impeachment hearings.

Kamala Harris, Democratic senator from California, has been selected as Joe Biden’s vice presidential running mate. Biden announced the decision August 11, six days ahead of the Democratic National Convention, set to begin Monday August 17 with a small in-person event in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and as a larger virtual event with speakers across the country.
Harris was elected statewide in California twice as the state’s attorney general, then as the replacement for Senator Barbara Boxer in 2016.
“I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked Kamala Harris, a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate,” Biden said on Twitter. “Back when Kamala was Attorney General, she worked closely with Beau. Auditions make me nervous. Not for myself — I’m beyond the casting-call stage of life. But rather for anyone who still has the nerve to endure the almost always disappointing, sometimes humiliating, process of being screened, interviewed, tested and most probably rejected for a role in show business. Or journalism. Or politics, wherein the final auditions for a part as Joe Biden’s vice presidential running mate are reported to be underway.
The Biden casting process, confined to women, has been wide, semi-public and deliberate enough to keep a lot of proud candidates dangling. At one time or another, Stacey Abrams, Keisha Lance Bottoms, Val Demings and Elizabeth Warren have been in the mix. Fantasy whispers about Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama won’t go away. “The ReidOut,” Joy Reid’s new 7 p.m. MSNBC program, topped the time slot in total viewers with its Monday debut. Unfortunately, the new show still settled for a fairly distant third place among adults 25-54, which is the key demographic for companies advertising on news programming.
Erin Burnett on CNN won the demo in the hour, when 384,000 of her 1.332 million total viewers were between the ages of 25 to 54, according to Nielsen estimates.
Reid drew 2.627 million total viewers last night, with 285,000 of those coming from the key demo. That key-demo tally would technically not be last place on cable news if you counted Hln, but this is generally considered a three-horse race.

Reid’s overall audience sum made the “ReidOut” launch the second most-watched regularly scheduled episode in the MSNBC time slot ever. A “Hardball” episode from Sept.

Joy Reid’s first guest on her new nightly MSNBC show The ReidOut was presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden, who gave her an update on his search for a running mate.
Reid generally posed questions to Biden that reflected some of his campaign’s talking points, including President Donald Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, but she also put him on the spot when she asked whether he would commit to picking a Black woman as a running mate.
“I am not committed to naming any but the people I have named, and among them are four Black women. So that decision is underway right now. And by the way, Black women have supported me my entire career. You all act like all of the sudden there was an epiphany in South Carolina.”
Biden then talked about his history of support in Delaware, his home state.

When the coronavirus lockdown began in March, WME partner Richard Weitz found himself stuck like so many parents trying to find a way to celebrate his daughter 17th birthday amid the onset of quarantine conditions.
Weitz, a lifelong music buff, called a piano player friend from Chicago to serenade Demi and a group of her friends via a Zoom call. On the latest episode of Variety podcast “Strictly Business,” Demi and Richard Weitz explain how that birthday videoconference call birthed the “Quarantunes” concert franchise that has raised $6.7 million for a range of coronavirus-related charities, including the Saban Free Clinic, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Team Rubicon, the American Cancer Society and Nashville’s Vanderbilt Medical Center.
The pair discuss the spark for the fundraising effort, hurdles they overcame to make sure the private Zoom performances didn’t infringe on copyrights and how they recruited partners such as Goldman Sachs and Alliance Bernstein to help drive big-dollar donations.

A few months ago, it might have been unimaginable that multimillion dollar fundraising efforts would be hosted not in black tie from behind a ballroom dais but in ballcaps in front of a refrigerator. But the “RWQuarantunes” livestream music series has proven that show-business philanthropy can take as much of a different tack as anything during the pandemic.

Actor and rapper Tip “T.I.” Harris and Jeff Clanagan, Kevin Hart’s business partner, represented the entertainment perspective in a virtual panel Thursday examining issues across society and culture raised by the George Floyd protests.
“There is no perfect revolution,” Harris said. But even if ultimate outcomes don’t match “what we have in our heads,” the key is to continue “attacking the financial base of what we consider this power of oppression.”
Clanagan, president of Hart’s Laugh Out Loud and CEO of Codeblack Films, said the recent Gone With the Wind episode shows how much progress is yet to be made. Ava DuVernay has called out the mainstream media for “conflating” protestors and looters in covering the mass protests in response to the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minnesota police.
