[This story contains spoilers for the Prime Video film Role Play.]
The team behind the Prime Video action-comedy movie Role Play had initially intended to make things a little extra challenging for Kaley Cuoco and David Oyelowo’s lead characters before the lights went up.
Thomas Vincent, who directed the recent Amazon MGM Studios film from a script by Seth Owen, tells The Hollywood Reporter that there had been a planned final moment at the end in which Emma (Cuoco) gets a bit of a scare as husband Dave (Oyelowo) realizes that her high-risk lifestyle as a professional assassin might not actually be in the past.
“At some point, there was an epilogue in Mexico, and they were in their next life and in a restaurant,” Vincent recalls. “A bunch of big guys came in, like Mafia guys. Then, the boss, as soon as he sat down at a table, just had a heart attack and died. The two...

Role Play Movie Review: A Familiar Take On The Retired Assassin Trope Makes For An Entertaining Ride
Role Play Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Kaley Cuoco, David Oyelowo, Bill Nighy, and Connie Nielsen.
Director: Thomas Vincent
Role Play Movie Review Is Out! (Picture Credit: IMDb)
What’s Good: Cuoco and Oyelowo have enough charisma to carry the entire film on their shoulders, and it is actually fun to see them out of their comfort zone.
What’s Bad: The story is too predictable, and the plot might be copied from hundreds of other movies, but The Long Kiss Goodnight is not.
Loo Break: The middle of the movie sags a bit as the story tries to get to where the character makes their final decisions, but it could be more compelling.
Watch or Not?: Only watch if you are in the mood for something you have seen many times before.
Language: English (with subtitles).

There are a lot of themes and ideas one can throw into a simple action comedy, which can backfire and usually does. Role Play is enjoyable because it’s easy with itself and has just the perfect casting for this kind of story. With Kaley Cuoco and David Oyelowo in the lead, the movie feels very well-balanced, and there is a kind of dialogue going on here with the actors having been cast against type. Oyelowo is known for some heavy-hitting dramatic roles, and in Role Play, he changes his persona to suit this new part, where he is a little discombobulated throughout the whole film, while Kaley Cuoco gets to play the tough killer.
The role reversal is a nice touch precisely because that point is not hammered on the audience. I seem to remember Knight and Day, where Tom Cruise was the one who remained calm and composed,...

How do you make a “rom-com” centered around a long-time married couple? Well, one idea would be to throw them a “curve”. With the Bracketts in this story, she’s forgotten their anniversary prompting him to take, well not desperate, but offbeat measures. Would it “spice” things up considerably, maybe rekindle those old sparks, if they pretended to be strangers meeting for the first time? But how could she have “blanked’ on the “big day”? For that answer, this new movie mixes in elements of an action flick. With that new twist, we learn that she indulges in many variations of Role Play.
Oh, the lady in question is Emma Brackett (Kaley Cuoco). At the start of the story, she’s on the job, donning a wig, and terminating a target. As in assassinate. From there she phones her handler Raj (Rudy Dharmalingam), and heads to the airport. In the next scene,...

During the Cold War, we had “I Married a Communist” and “I Married a Monster From Outer Space” — two predicaments that the era’s paranoias rendered basically the same thing. In recent years, however, a more common screen fantasy might be summarized as “Whoops, My Significant Other Turns Out to Be an International Spy/Assassin.” There have been numerous efforts in that vein, of variably intentional absurdity. Now there’s “Role Play,” which by their standards doesn’t seem particularly outlandish for offering “The Big Bang Theory’s” Kaley Cuoco as a globetrotting killer cloaked in the normie guise of suburban mom.
This smaller-scaled, gender-flipped spin on the “True Lies” conceit, however, gets most of its charm and humor from David Oyelowo, playing the Jamie Lee Curtis role of the solidly middlebrow spouse flummoxed at finding themselves married to a lethal weapon. Revealing hitherto underexposed comic chops, he elevates a...

Kaley Cuoco, the beloved star of sitcoms like ‘The Big Bang Theory’ and ‘The Flight Attendant’, is all set to bowl audiences over with a never-seen-before character, a far cry from her comical characters. Her latest project, ‘Role Play’, sees her trading Penny’s quirky charm and Cassie’s bubbly enthusiasm for a much darker, more action-oriented persona. In the upcoming film, Cuoco essays the role of Emma, a seemingly ordinary suburban wife and mother who harbours a shocking secret – she’s a lethal assassin leading a double life. When her husband, played by David Oyelowo, proposes a night of role-play to spice up their marriage, things take an unexpected turn as Emma’s true identity gets exposed.
Although Kaley has also co-produced ‘Role Play’ she was more actively involved in the film as an actor.
She recently shared, “I have to tell you, I didn’t feel like I...

"I love you, I have to go to work now, though..." Prime Video has revealed the official trailer for a romantic thriller arriving this winter called Role Play, the latest from a French filmmaker Thomas Vincent who has been directing TV series most recently. It's set to launch streaming on Prime Video in January, skipping theaters entirely. Emma has a wonderful husband and two kids in the suburbs of New Jersey – she also has a secret life as an assassin for hire – a secret that her husband David discovers when the couple decide to spice up their marriage with a little role play. For some reason they end up in Berlin together? Who knows why. Starring Kaley Cuoco and David Oyelowo, with Connie Nielsen, Rudi Dharmalingam, Lucia Aliu, and Bill Nighy. A talented ensemble cast has come together for espionage comedy thriller Role Play. And now we have a trailer.
While we’re looking forward to a shiny 4K release of James Cameron’s True Lies as you can bet that it’ll look the business, it’s fair to say that a contemporary viewing of the film won’t age as well in every degree.
Still, as a product of its time, it will be a hugely enjoyable watch… but if you’re looking for a more contemporary take on the ‘secret assassin comedy thriller’ genre, look no further than Role Play.
Bill Nighy and Connie Neilsen have major supporting roles while David Oyelowo and Kelly Cuoco star.
Selma star Oyelowo, and Kaley Cuoco – best known for her work in TV’s The Big Bang Theory – could make for quite the pairing as the film centres around a married couple...

Political conspiracy thriller “Bodyguard” is Britain’s biggest TV hit in years, and it’s easy to see why. With Jed Mercurio’s suspenseful story and mesmerizing performances by Richard Madden and Keeley Hawes, it’s an intoxicating and addictive television cocktail. Ten minutes in, and viewers will want to binge all six hours of the new Netflix-distributed series that examines how the London corridors of power grapple with the increased threat of terrorism.
This is not a remake of the 1992 Whitney Houston-Kevin Costner thriller “The Bodyguard,” although it does feature a hardened private security specialist David Budd (Madden) assigned to protect a high-profile woman, who in this case is the implacable Home Secretary Julia Montague (Hawes). Both are accustomed to taking charge and forge a wary professional alliance that eventually crosses into the personal.
Madden is already an international star after playing the ill-fated Robb Stark on “Game of Thrones,...
