Mark Knopfler has teamed up with a host of fellow guitar legends to record a version of his song “Going Home (Theme from Local Hero)” to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America.
The Dire Straits frontman tapped Eric Clapton, Slash (Guns N’ Roses), David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Brian May (Queen), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Pete Townshend (The Who), Alex Lifeson (Rush), Bruce Springsteen, Ronnie Wood (The Rolling Stones), Joan Jett, and many more, forming what he has dubbed “Mark Knopfler’s Guitar Heroes.” Notably, the star-studded version opens with the final recorded guitar track by the late Jeff Beck.
Knopfler’s longtime collaborator Guy Fletcher handled the production of the track, which might be the greatest assemblage of guitar talent to co-exist on a single song. The Sgt. Pepper‘s-style artwork was created by Sir Peter Blake.

Shaun Ryder and Mark “Bez” Berry of Happy Mondays have joined forces with ex-Oasis members Zak Starkey and Andy Bell for Mantra of the Cosmos, the latest supergroup to come from the UK. They’ve announced the news along with their debut single “Gorilla Guerilla.”
A press release describes Mantra of the Cosmos as “the hum of the universe and the pulsating musical pathway to the beyond,” who began making music in a remote studio in outer space. Bell, also known for his work with shoegazers Ride, shared: “It’s a pleasure to be part of Mantra of the Cosmos. Four like-minded souls who get off on the same music.” Starkey describes their sound as having “fantastic psychedelic groove, from a band of misfit outsiders and innovators.” Ryder concedes that “It’s a fucking blast mate,” with Bez concluding: “I always knew the best was yet to come.”

Was Ringo Starr the glue that held The Beatles together? The world may never know, but it’s not far-fetched. After all, he was the only member of the Fab Four to play on solo albums from each of the other three Beatles. He proved to be the favorite Beatle among his bandmates several times. Ringo had a close relationship with John Lennon. They lived near each other and spent time together outside the band. Ringo and John channeled Ringo’s friend Keith Moon during a nearly disastrous holiday celebration that didn’t go as planned.

Ringo and John shared a close relationship. You could argue they shared the strongest bond in the band since John and Paul McCartney lost the chemistry that propelled the band in the early years.

Ringo Starr and his eldest son, Zak Starkey, had a complicated relationship during Starkey’s upbringing. They fought often, and Starkey, who is also a drummer, resented being compared to his father. Their relationship has greatly improved over the years. It likely helped, at least in part, to see how similar they were, which Starkey proved with his marriage. Starr was so surprised to hear this that he nearly fainted.

Starr and Starkey frequently clashed over the years. Their relationship was rocky enough that Starkey flew into a rage when he heard The Beatles playing at a bar. Eventually, Starr kicked Starkey out of his house.

Each of The Beatles was married at least twice, and their ex-wives remained a part of their lives over the years. After their divorces, though, each of these women went on to build a life outside of their famous ex-husbands. Here’s what Cynthia Lennon, Maureen Starkey, Pattie Boyd, and Heather Mills did after their divorces, and where they are now.

John Lennon was the first of The Beatles to get married when he wed Cynthia Powell, his classmate at the Liverpool College of Art. She met Lennon in the late 1950s, when they were both enrolled in the school, and they began a relationship. They married in 1962, after Cynthia discovered she was pregnant.

Each of the Beatles had children, and, as with many celebrities, they found careers similar to their parents. While some have found success in other industries — notably fashion and photography — many of the Beatles’ children also became musicians. Here are the Beatles children who followed in their fathers’ footsteps.

John Lennon’s first child, and the firstborn Beatles child, Julian Lennon, began his music career in 1984, not long after his father’s death. His debut album, Valotte, found great success and earned him a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 1985.
Julian released several other albums, though Valotte remains his most successful. Like his father, he primarily sticks to the rock genre. He also tackled one of Lennon’s most famous songs in 2022. He had initially vowed to never cover “Imagine,” but with the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, he...

Aside from playing drums with the Beatles and writing music as a solo artist, Ringo Starr is a father of three. He had his first son, Zak, in 1965, later elaborating on his son’s love of music and his future time at school.

Before meeting the other Beatles, Harrison and Lennon attended Dovedale Primary School. According to IMDb, 11-year-old Paul McCartney was one of four students who passed an exam, known as “the scholarship,” in Liverpool, earning a seat at the Liverpool Institute for Boys.
When they were teenagers, Harrison, Lennon, and McCartney began making music together, eventually adding Ringo Starr (full name Sir Richard Starkey) to their lineup. IMDb notes Starr actually dropped out of school to work as a delivery boy for British Rail.

Ringo Starr’s son was banned from his local pub after they committed what was, in his eyes, an unforgivable sin. The offense? Playing a song by his father’s former band. Zak Starkey had a tenuous relationship with his father and detested comparisons drawn between the two of them. Surprisingly, all this proved was that Starkey was more like Starr than he might have thought.

Ringo Starr and his son, Zak Starkey, had a fraught relationship throughout Starkey’s youth. Starr admitted that he was often absent during his children’s upbringing, and Starkey, who is also a drummer, resented being compared to his famous father. Ringo Starr’s son, Zak Starkey, followed in his footsteps and became a drummer. He’s played with several bands, including Oasis and The Who, and he now says he considers his father one of the greatest drummers of all time. He didn’t always feel this way, though. When Ringo Starr’s son, Zak Starkey, began to work professionally as a drummer, people understandably made comparisons between him and his father. Though Starr is one of the most successful drummers in the world, Starkey resented the comparison. Ringo Starr’s son, Zak Starkey, followed in his footsteps, becoming a drummer and playing for bands like Oasis and The Who. They will once again be joined by local orchestras at every stop for an evening of music heavy on classics from Tommy, Quadrophenia, Who’s Next, and their 2019 LP Who in addition to selections from their other albums.
Some of the shows were originally booked for 2019 and delayed because Roger Daltrey was suffering from a vocal ailment, while others were scheduled for 2020 and postponed due to the pandemic.

Toots & the Maytals frontman Frederick “Toots” Hibbert is “making progress” in an intensive care unit at a private facility in Kingston, Jamaica as he awaits the results of a Covid-19 test.
A representative for Hibbert confirmed the musician’s hospitalization to Rolling Stone, saying “[T]he family would like to assure those concerned that he is making positive progress and is receiving the best possible treatment, while he awaits the results on his Covid-19 test. He is resting and in good spirits, and is showing signs of improvement by the hour.

“As long as I am strong, I am young,” Frederick “Toots” Hibbert, the reggae architect whose deified, six-decade musical career helped popularize the genre, told Rolling Stone earlier this year. The ska-reggae legend sounds stronger than ever on Got to Be Tough, his first album in more than a decade.

Toots and the Maytals and Ziggy Marley have linked up for a new take on the Bob Marley classic, “Three Little Birds.”
The cover completely transforms the original’s steady swaying groove into a punchy, rock-forward rhythm punctuated by bright horns, buzzing guitar lines and the tag-team vocals of Frederick “Toots” Hibbert and the younger Marley. The track also features Ringo Starr on percussion, his son Zak Starkey on guitar, and drums from another reggae legend, Sly Dunbar, of the duo Sly and Robbie.

Frederick “Toots” Hibbert stars in the powerful new animated video for “Warning Warning,” a track off Toots and the Maytals’ upcoming LP, Got to Be Tough.
Directed by Nick Franco, the clip features Hibbert floating by Earth in a spacesuit, later accompanied by a lion on a boat. He witnesses brutal whaling, and travels to the depths of the ocean, passing by dead sea creatures. He then lands in hell, where he punches the devil and returns to the surface to witness further destruction.

Toots and the Maytals show off their pride for their native Jamaica in the new animated music video for “Got to Be Tough,” the group’s latest single.

But the song’s message proves universal, and timely: “Got to be tough when things get rough/You got to be tough and this is a warning/You got to be smart, living in this...

The first Who album in 13 years opens with a perfectly cynical Pete Townshend lyric: “I don’t care/I know you’re gonna hate this song.” But it’s kind of hard to hate something that feels so familiar. Roger Daltrey sings the lyric and the ones that follow, claiming the song isn’t “new” or “diverse,” with the same anger and conviction as the Who’s earliest music, recorded more than half a century ago, and the melody is almost identical to the opening “I don’t mind” of...

Fleetwood has enlisted an all-star cast of musicians to perform, including Billy Gibbons, David Gilmour, Jonny Lang, John Mayall, Christine McVie, Zak Starkey, Steven Tyler and Bill Wyman.
“The concert is a celebration of those early blues days where we all began, and it’s important to recognize the profound impact Peter and the early Fleetwood Mac had on the world of music,” Fleetwood said in a statement.

One of the greatest rhythm sections to ever rub-a-dub on planet Earth, Sly and Robbie’s client roster has included Dylan, Madonna, Serge Gainsbourg, and No Doubt. Their ur-grooves justify from the get-go Red Gold Green & Blue, a set of blues, r...

Toots and the Maytals transformed Fleetwood Mac’s 1969 tune “Man of the World” into an aching reggae ballad for the upcoming compilation, Red, Gold, Green and Blue, out July 12th via Trojan Jamaica. The cover arrives with a video featuring live footage and clips of Toots and the Maytals recording “Man of the World” in the studio.
Written by Peter Green and released in the pre-Stevie Nicks/Lindsey Buckingham days of Fleetwood Mac, “Man of the World,” is a slow, electric blues number about a world-weary man unable to find love.

It was exactly 40 years ago today that Who drummer Keith Moon was found dead at a London flat owned by Harry Nilsson after overdosing on clomethiazole, which he was prescribed to alleviate his alcohol withdrawal symptoms. By tragic coincidence, it was the exact same apartment where Cass Elliott of the Mamas & the Papas died four years earlier.
