In Gregory Widen's 1995 horror film "The Prophecy," angels look like ordinary people but are a little ... off. They are typically clad in black suits, but move like birds, snapping their heads around quickly, as if constantly aware of potential danger. They also have unnatural balance, able to perch on the edges of buildings or the backs of chairs without toppling over. When an angel calls Uziel (Jeff Cadiente) dies in the first "Prophecy," a medical examiner finds that the corpse is missing its eyes and that its blood chemistry is similar to that of an unborn fetus. Angels, it seems, are also intersex, possessing both a penis and a vagina. Angels, it seems, lurk among us, resentful of humanity.

The episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? covering The Prophecy II was Written by Mike Holtz, Narrated by Adam Walton, Edited by Jaime Vasquez, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
In 1995, Gregory Widen, writer of Backdraft and Highlander set out to tell a story about the darker side of angels with The Prophecy, formerly known as Daemons and God’s Army. The story involved an archangel named Gabriel, played by the absolute legend that is Christopher Walken, who had become jealous of God’s love for human beings. Or as he referred to us… monkeys. Does that make Ross from Friends our daddy? I knew some ladies (and men) in the 90s that would have totally been into that Look, We’Re Getting Sidetracked. The hurt was so deep for Gabriel and these fallen angels that it caused a Civil War...

The last two Producers Guild of America Awards told us which movies — “Green Book” (2019) and “The Shape of Water” (2018) — would win the Oscar for Best Picture weeks before the Academy Awards. In fact, 21 of the previous PGA Awards winners have then gone on to claim Best Picture victories.
For the 31st annual ceremony slated for Saturday, January 18 at the Hollywood Palladium, we already know the top choice will be at the very least a major front-runner for this year’s Oscar. The PGA’s 10 nominated films are “Ford v Ferrari,” “The Irishman,” “Jojo Rabbit,” “Joker,” “Knives Out,” “Little Women,” “Marriage Story,” “1917,” “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and “Parasite.” All but “Knives Out” contend at the Oscars for Best Picture.

Mere moments ago, the Producers Guild of America announced the nominations for their annual PGA Awards. This is one of the most reliable predictors for the Academy Award category of Best Picture, so pay attention! The ten movies cited in their top category (known as the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures) are almost always Oscar finalists in Picture. This seems likely to hold true again this year. Read on for more… You can see all of the Producers Guild citations below, but the ten films honored in the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures category are 1917, Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, Knives Out, Little Women, Marriage Story, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Parasite. The Best Picture nominees that the Academy cites will likely come from this bunch, though not all will make it, obviously.

The Producers Guild of America has revealed its nominees in the motion picture and television categories for its 31st Annual Producers Guild Awards; nominees include recent Golden Globe winners “1917,” “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood,” “Missing Link,” “Succession,” “Fleabag” and “Chernobyl.”
The PGA, which has about 8,200 members, has matched the Oscar for best picture in 21 of its 30 years, including “The Green Book” last year and “The Shape of Water” in 2018.
The PGA uses a preferential balloting system that’s similar to that employed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The PGA and AMPAS both expanded their voting for the top film to 10 nominees in 2009. About three-quarters of the PGA’s Zanuck nominees wind up as Oscar best picture nominees.
On the TV side, among all of the drama and comedy nominees, only “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (last year’s comedy winner) is a repeat from last year.

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for the Season 8 premiere of “Game of Thrones,” titled “Winterfell”)
“Game of Thrones” fans have had 24 hours to dissect the new credits sequence that opened the eighth and final season premiere Sunday night. But we’re willing to bet all the money in the Iron Bank of Braavos that even eagle-eyed viewers didn’t spot every significant detail in the 1-minute 58-second clip, which you can view above.
And that’s because on Monday, TheWrap spoke with the team at Elastic, the production studio that has been designing the opening credits for David Benioff and Dan “D.B.” Weiss’ HBO fantasy epic for the last nine years, and they told us what to you may have missed at the start of the Season 8 premiere, “Winterfell.”

The Producers Guild of America hands out its awards on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018. That is the night before the Screen Actors Guild does the same. Unlike, the latter, which will air on TNT and TBS, the PGA ceremony is not televised. However, it is an equally important stop on the road to the Oscars.
The PGA Awards has an enviable track record at presaging the eventual Best Picture winner at the Academy Awards. The guild and the academy have agreed on 19 of the most recent 28 Best Picture champs. Last year, all nine Oscar nominees for Best Picture numbered among the 10 PGA contenders; only “Deadpool” was snubbed by the academy. The PGA prize went to “La La Land” while the Oscar was (eventually) won by “Moonlight.”

A review of tonight's "Game of Thrones" season finale coming up just as soon as my Valyrian's a bit nostril... "You were the first person on my list, you know?" -Arya "Game of Thrones" has had a very complicated relationship with the concept of revenge throughout its five seasons, and particularly throughout "Mother's Mercy." The show gives us so many terrible villains whom we're eager to see punished for their cruelty, and yet when those moments come, they're rarely presented in triumphant fashion. Joffrey's as despicable as any character on the show, yet in his death throes, he was a terrified boy reaching out to his mother for protection and comfort she couldn't provide. And as Arya has studied killing under Jaqen and the Hound, those scenes are always laced with an element of sadness, because for all that we want Arya to hurt the people who hurt her and her loved ones,...

Among the many delights of the "Game of Thrones" viewing experience is seeing which locations appear on the opening credits map in any given week. But sometimes, I wind up wondering what the logic is for certain decisions about the map, like some weeks we see locations that don't actually appear in that episode, while locales where several characters are present (and that have appeared on the map before) aren't featured. For instance, tonight's episode, "Sons of the Harpy" (I reviewed it here) featured our first new map location of season 5, the southern Westeros kingdom of Dorne, even though Dorne had first appeared on the show two episodes early. And the Eyrie appeared in the credits of several early episodes, even though no characters have been there this season, while it didn't appear at all late last year when Sansa and Littlefinger were living there. Earlier this week, I got...

A review of tonight's "Game of Thrones" coming up just as soon as I want my death to be boring... "How many tens of thousands had to die because Rhaegar chose your aunt?" -Littlefinger Rhaegar Targaryen's name is actually invoked a couple of times in "Sons of the Harpy." The first is from that scene quoted above, where Littlefinger finds Sansa down in the Stark family crypt and recalls the moment when Robert's Rebellion started. At first, he makes the incident sound almost romantic, before pivoting into talk of all the bloodshed that followed, which in turn leads to the subject of the violence to come once Stannis' army starts marching south. The second involves reliable old Barristan, who delights his queen with tales of the brother she never knew as someone who preferred singing to killing, and who enjoyed acting the minstrel down among the common people. That Littlefinger...

I agree with not nominating the latter movie (sorry Ms. Jolie but "Unbroken" is too earnest for my taste) but "Selma" deserved a nod! It's a profound movie aided by DuVernay's skilled directing and David Oyelowo's fine performance as Martin Luther King Jr.
You know who I'm blaming for this? Paramount! The studio did not send screeners to Academy voters. Heck, they did not sent one to us, the Broadcast Film Critics Association. But after begging, they did send a link so I could watch "Selma" in time for our Critics' Choice Movie Award nominations.
"Selma" is a "late to the party" entry that is gaining momentum dashed by the PGA! If you remember, Clint Eastwood...

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) added to the industry mix Monday morning with a list of 10 nominees to keep the awards season grist mill churning. "Gone Girl" popped up again, and it shouldn't be a surprise. It's one of the year's biggest hits. And speaking of hits, I had a hunch "Nightcrawler" would find a place after becoming such a well-liked, profitable success. There it sits. The question for both of these films is whether this on-going industry/guild love ends up translating to Oscar recognition. After the "Dragon Tattoo" rush a few years ago, I'm pretty much wait-and-see on stuff like this. Absent from the list was anything out of the Marvel Studios comic book factory, notable as both "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" were both on the top tier of box office earners in 2014. The former currently maintains the throne, though it...

Considering the history we already know about HBO and renewing Game of Thrones, the news that the show is being renewed is only slightly surprising, and only because the show has officially been picked up for two more seasons, instead of just one. Even that is only mildly surprising after we found out that the premiere of the fourth season crashed HBO Go, and now that we know that it had the highest viewership the series has ever managed, it’s probably something of a no-brainer to think that the network would extend the series as long as makes sense.
This is not only good news for fans in the most obvious sense, but also because of the room to maneuver that a two-season cushion gives the production and writing staff for a series. Everyone probably felt pretty comfortable with the series anyway, but having two seasons to play with...

Less than a month now separates us from Season 4 of Game of Thrones. If you don’t have time to rewatch Season 3 to prepare, HBO has very kindly provided us with a where-we-left-off synopsis below, followed by a lengthy list of returning cast members and a reminder of their roles, a list of several newbies and a quick word about who they play.
After all that come the somewhat spoilery synopses of April episodes. They’re pretty vague, but it may at least indicate who survives from episode to episode. I’m happy to report that there will be at least one Hodor sighting, but I’m not telling when; you’ll have to look for yourself.

12 Years A Slave and Gravity have tied at this year’s PGA. With American Hustle taking the SAG ensemble on Saturday night, we have a bonafide Best Picture race on our hands folks! This is the first tie for the top film in Producers Guild Award history.
The PGA split keeps the Oscar race wide open in one of the tightest three-way battles in years, with “American Hustle” still in the game following a week of big showings at the Golden Globes, Oscar nominations and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Tonight the Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced this year’s winning motion picture and television productions at the 25th Annual Producers Guild Awards ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

Plenty of groups give out awards for excellence in film and television at the end of every year, but no set of nominations is watched more carefully by Oscar predictors than the picks from the Producers Guild. That’s because year after year their choices end up being a fairly good indicator of which films will also be granted Best Picture nominations when the Academy makes their selections.
The Guild has announced their 2014 nominations today and there aren’t really any major surprises here. All the expected films are present, including 12 Years A Slave, American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Gravity, Her and The Wolf Of Wall Street. Animated films that nabbed nominations are The Croods, Despicable Me 2, Epic, Frozen and Monsters University. Included in the documentary nominations are A Place at the Table, Far Out Isn’t Far Enough: The Tomi Ungerer Story, Life According to Sam, We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks...

The Producers Guild of America has accurately forecast the last six Best Picture Oscar winners, so it was good news for 10 films that were nominated today for the PGA’s Darryl F. Zanuck Award. While Gravity, 12 Years a Slave, and American Hustle were among the films that made the cut, Inside Llewyn Davis, The Butler, and Fruitvale Station did not. Last year, eight of the 10 movies that received nods from the PGA went on to earn Oscar nominations for Best Picture.

Yesterday we posted a really well-done featurette to help us all refresh our recollections about where we were when we last saw our Westeros friends at the end of Season 2 of Game of Thrones. But it’s a 14-minute video, and if that is too long for you to watch – well, first of all, Game of Thrones may not be quite the show for you – then HBO has released this lovely synopsis, as well as the name of the Season 3 premiere episode and a brief synopsis of that.
If you’re worried that the episode synopsis is too spoilery for you, it comes near the end, so you can easily avoid it, and simply allow your eyes to swim over the sheer number of actors listed as returning and new to the series. Enjoy!

The epic Hall H was the site of the epic Game of Thrones panel on the Friday of Comic-Con 2012. On the panel were Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark), Rose Leslie (Ygritte), and Richard Madden (Robb Stark). Author George R. R. Martin served as moderator, and he did an admirable job with his questions for the cast and for executive producer Carolyn Strauss who was also on the panel. Kit Harington (Jon Snow) had been expected on the panel but was injured recently (don’t worry, it’s not supposed to affect his role in Season 3).
The panel began with Martin introducing this Season 2 recap featurette, followed by a new cast featurette:
