Growing up in Massachusetts the other thing to do other than theatre was skiing. All through high school I was a part of the ski racing team and still know how to downhill ski race. I’m a vintage clothing collector. I love finding and styling clothes from the 60s and 70s. Give me a knit polo and a dagger collar any day. My favorite piece I’ve...

This year’s Oscars telecast incorporated reunions of cast members from classic movies such as “The Godfather,” “Pulp Fiction,” and “Juno.” Last year’s Tony Awards actually did something similar, bringing together cast members from different Broadway classics such as “Hairspray,” “Ragtime,” “Rent,” and “Wicked” for performances as the industry was fighting to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. Since the Tonys will be presenting their landmark 75th annual ceremony this year, I think it would be even more fitting if they reunite more co-stars from Broadway classics of yesteryear to perform or even present awards. Here are some suggestions. Vote in our poll at the bottom of this post to let us know which you’d most like to see.

Andrew Garfield isn’t donning the iconic Spider-Man suit again any time soon. At least that’s what the “Spider-Man: No Way Home” actor told senior culture and events editor Marc Malkin on Sunday at the 28th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.
“No plans, that’s the truth,” Garfield said at Variety On the Carpet presented by Directv. “Everyone’s gonna call me a liar for the rest of my life. I’m the boy who cried wolf.”
Garfield was nominated this year for best male actor in a leading role for his musical turn in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Tick, Tick … Boom!” Miranda, who opened the show alongside fellow “Hamilton” stars Leslie Odom Jr. and Daveed Diggs, recalled Garfield crying wolf when Miranda asked him on set in 2020 whether he was going to play Peter Parker.
“To his credit, he never said it to me,” Miranda told Variety. “He always denied it,...

The sublime “Sunday” diner scene with the Broadway legends in Netflix’s “Tick Tick Boom” has become even more tear-inducing and meta with the recent passing of Stephen Sondheim, whose “Sunday in the Park with George” musical about French pointillist painter Georges Seurat started it all. First, through Jonathan Larson’s (Andrew Garfield) tribute song, “Sunday,” set in The Moondance Diner in SoHo, where he toils as a waiter and dreams of becoming the next Sondheim. Second, through “Tick Tick Boom” director Lin-Manuel Miranda’s ambitious, even miraculous, staging of the scene in a replica of the ’90s diner on a New York soundstage.
Miranda’s idea was to not only pay tribute to Larson’s heroes of Broadway but also to his own legacy, since he tragically died before the opening of “Rent” and was unable to witness its impact on the theater world. Thus, through strict protocols and safe distancing,...

When James Lapine showed up at the legendary Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim’s New York townhome four decades ago, he had only seen the tunesmiths’ 1979 Tony Award-winning “Sweeney Todd.” “I think it was a blessing that I didn’t know Steve’s work and frankly that I didn’t know the theater that well, particularly the commercial theater. ” recalled Lapine, 72, during a recent Town Hall Zoom conversation about “”Putting It Together: How Stephen Sondheim and I Created Sunday in the Park with George.” That is the title of his new book about their first collaboration, the Pulitzer Prize-winning 1984 musical “Sunday in the Park with George.”
At the time of the meeting, Lapine was best known for directing and writing the book for William Finn’s acclaimed 1981 off-Broadway musical “March of the Falsettos.” Lapine knew that Sondheim was a very accomplished artist “but it really didn’t dawn on me at that time.

Stephen Sondheim, the legendary Broadway songwriter, has died at his home in Connecticut at the age of 91, according to The New York Times. The prolific composer and lyricist was the creative force behind some 20 musicals starting in 1954 — including West Side Story (lyrics), A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Follies, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods, and more — as well as numerous film and TV projects, from adaptations of his Broadway hits to original songs for movies such as Dick Tracy and The Birdcage. Over his remarkable, seven-decade career,...

The acclaimed Broadway musical, Sunday in the Park With George, famously lost the Best Musical Tony Award to La Cage Aux Folles in 1985, even as it picked up the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. But the years since the show’s debut have only seen the reputation grow for Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s musical about Georges Seurat’s creation of pointillist masterpiece “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte.”
The original production spawned a successful cast recording, was preserved on film for a 1986 episode of PBS...

John Lee’s socially perceptive horror thriller “False Positive” begins near the end of the story — with Ilana Glazer bloodied but unbowed — so it’s no spoiler to say that things go very wrong very fast. But Lee quickly rewinds to seemingly simpler times, when Lucy (Glazer) and Adrian (Justin Theroux) are hoping to have a baby. After two years of trying, Lucy agrees to an appointment with Adrian’s former med-school professor, acclaimed reproductive endocrinologist John Hindle (Pierce Brosnan).
Dr. Hindle’s practice is so well-run that the initially reluctant Lucy is stunned: The office is soothing, his nurses are endlessly supportive, and the doctor himself couldn’t be more positive.
In fact, Lucy gets pregnant right away, with triplets. Dr. Hindle explains that she will have to undergo selective reduction to protect either the twin boys or the single girl. Once she wakes up from the procedure he...

Tits Masks up! On Friday, Jan. 29, Rachel Brosnahan took to Instagram to share a photo from the set of season four of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The Prime Video comedy began filming its latest season in New York City this month and appears to be following the Covid-19 production protocols. How do we know this? Well, in Brosnahan's latest upload, she's seen holding a clear umbrella that's been modified to keep germs at bay. Not to mention, her co-star Kevin Pollak, who plays Moishe Maisel, is spotted sitting six feet away and wearing a mask. Brosnahan hilariously captioned the photo, "Sunday In The Park With Covid." If you squint, it does look like a Georges Seurat...

Homeland star Mandy Patinkin is an emotional guy, and he’s not afraid to show it. "I have been unbelievably lucky meeting the right woman, my dear wife Kathryn, and having my two glorious sons, Isaac, [36], and Gideon, [32], who've become my parent and teacher at times," the 65-year-old actor exclusively revealed to Closer Weekly in the magazine's latest issue, on newsstands now. And he's just as enthusiastic about aging. "Getting older is one of the great privileges, if you get to live long enough. It’s the most thrilling time I’ve known. You learn things. You're not without struggle, but you have some greater ability to carry on, to not waste the moment and cheer yourself on by saying, 'I did the best I could,'" Mandy said. For Mandy — who won an Emmy for Chicago Hope, a Tony for Evita and has enjoyed iconic roles in films like...

Chicago – Remember the golden rule? Those who have the gold makes the rules. An illustration of this point is in the new documentary “The Art of the Steal,” a stark reminder of territorial power regarding a valuable art collection.

Albert C. Barnes was a Philadelphia-based visionary when it came to collecting the art of post-modern impressionism in the early 20th century. Having made a fortune as a drug manufacturer, Barnes turned to art appreciation and began to collect the works of Renoir, Cézanne, Matisse, Picasso and other impressionism masters, long before they became the most valuable and prized items in the art world.
Barnes preferred not to break up his collection and wanted it displayed in a certain way in his small educational foundation in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, several miles from the epicenter of the art scene in Philadephia. This began the struggle, as the wealthy in Philadelphia desired the collection,...
