On episode 12 of Project Runway, the designers were whisked away to Austin, where they had to find inspiration for their last challenge before fashion week. Tim took them to a farm and feed store as well as a BBQ restaurant to find supplies for yet another unconventional material challenge. Back in New York, Tim also told them they had to create a second look made of conventional materials to complement their first look. Let's take a look at the worst and best looks of "An Unconventional Trip."...

The final five designers are just one challenge away from the Project Runway season finale — but who will make it through? Tonight’s episode, titled An Unconventional Trip, sees hosts Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum tell the remaining contestants they have to take on yet another visit, but this time to a more unusual place — Austin, Texas. Only four of them will make it through to the two-part finale, the first of which airs next Thursday, December 15, and the second a week later on December 22. The finale was filmed during New York Fashion Week, but there’s only...read more...

If it were up to us, "Project Runway" would never be "out," it would just play on a loop 24/7/365.
Sadly, Season 14 will say auf wiedersehen on Thursday, November 5th, so now seems like a good time to take stock and rank the previous 13 seasons, with the expectation that the 2015 season will probably fall somewhere in the middle of the pack once it's done. (Tim Gunn "hated" Season 14, but there have been worse.) Every season of PR is a precious, unique little rhinestone, but, like the judges, we have our favorites -- and now it's Our turn to be biased.
So here's our very subjective but still definitive worst-to-best ranking, which may only be challenged by a glare from Nina Garcia, an eye roll from Michael Kors, a "make it work" from Tim Gunn, or an "out" from Heidi Klum.
13. Season 11 (aka 'Teams')Maybe it seemed like a good, or at least dramatic,...

In HitFix's new feature "Waxing Episodic," we reflect on an episode of television we'll never forget. I don't know a single person who believes "Project Runway" is at its best now, but the decade-old reality competition is still chugging along, and that's a remarkable feat for a show that peaked in terms of sheer entertainment value at the end of its first season. Yes, season one. Say what you will about the subsequent cycles, which have included some of the most hilarious contestants (Santino Rice, Laura Bennett, the loopy, lovable puppetrix Elisa Jimenez) and undeniable talents (Christian Siriano, Mondo Guerra, Leanne Marshall) in reality history, but "Project Runway" has almost always required trumped-up workroom drama to keep us coming back. Season three succeeded with the Jeffrey Sebelia cheating allegations and season eight offered up an irritating, intriguing teacher's pet in the form of winner Gretchen Jones, but the duller seasons...

You’re either in or you’re out, and from the moment Project Runway hit American television screens, it was clear the show was in. Its first season is a perfect time capsule of mid-2000s reality TV, a niche-market competition show that struck a perfect balance between drama, compelling design, and hilarious contestants. Take a time machine back to the land of Austin Scarlett’s lip gloss and high-fashion postal-service outfits with these 12 reasons why Project Runway's first season was the best.12. It demystified the fashion world for a wider public. Before fashion bloggers were quickly making their way from Instagram accounts and Wordpress pages to the front row of Fashion Week, the world of high fashion was a gated one. But Project Runway brought basic-cable-owning Americans into the world of dressmaking and runway shows, making "Olympus Fashion Week" a household name in the process. Suburban teens, meet S&M-inspired swimwear!

When it comes to Project Runway, there’s so much fans don’t get to see. During each season’s finale, three to four designers present collections to the judges, but what viewers don’t know is that there are additional decoy collections presented at New York Fashion Week. Over the course of 12 seasons, as the show has grown in popularity, more and more designers present collections on the runway to throw off fans and media trying to predict that season’s finalists. In the most recent seasons, at least nine or 10 designers have walked the runway. While most collections were not deserving of being in the finale, there were some standouts. We scoured the past 12 seasons of unseen clothes — season 13 presented nine collections but it’s unclear which will make it to the finale — to bring round up the best runways not seen on TV.

This fall, Turner Classic Movies is teaming up with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, Fathom Events and the Harry Ransom Center at The University of Texas at Austin to celebrate the 75th anniversary of one of the most successful and beloved films of all time: the 1939 classic Gone With the Wind. The multi-tiered celebration is set to include a new Blu-ray collection of the movie, screenings at more than 650 movie theaters nationwide, a fascinating exhibit and book on the making of the film and, of course, a special presentation of the movie on Turner Classic Movies.

With Lifetime’s new mini-series Bonnie and Clyde hitting the network soon, the designers were greeted by two of the show’s cast-members, Holliday Grainger and Modern Family‘s Sarah Hyland! The designers are asked to work with a “partner in crime” and design an updated 1930s look for a couple like Bonnie and Clyde. The looks must relate to one another, but each designer’s outfit will be judged separately — will the designers get along okay??

I’ve always shown a propensity for watching scripted television shows. Mostly, I believe that has a lot to do with the fact that I’m a storyteller and, in being one, that means that I am interested in how other people tell stories. I want to see how characters are developed, how backstories are revealed (or not), and how disparate threads come together into a cohesive plot. Messy stories certainly happen and, sometimes, they just get made worse. A story that falls apart can be just as informative as one that doesn’t.
I keep hoping that even though it’s very cheap to produce, that reality TV will finally shrivel up and just go away already. It isn’t fun to watch and it’s becoming even more contived than it already was. Readers of this column know that I have absolutely no issues admitting to the fact that I like escapist entertainment.

The season’s remaining designers hit the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in NYC to showcase their new Fall/Winter 2013 designs – their final challenge in Season 11!
For the first time in the history of Project Runway, the contestants did not get to deliver their thank you speeches before their collections walked the runway! This means that the entire audience was left in the dark as to which designers actually made it to the finale — and who was associated with each look! Though atypical, this allowed for audience members to judge each collection critically, unbiased by the urge to root for their favorite designers. Six distinct collections were shown — get the scoop here!

Have you ever licked soda off of a dirty floor? Or referred to your eating disorder as a "stress relief?" How about dry-heaving into a toilet while a stranger takes pictures? If you answered yes to any one of these questions, then you have something in common with the contestants from this week's episode of "America's Next Top Model." If you answered yes to all of the questions, then you are my trashy twin and should maybe curb your drinking habits. Project Runway has become something of a caricature of itself in the past few years, but let's never forget how amazing this show was and -- sometimes -- still is. The reason it remains my favorite reality competition show of allllll time (excepting perhaps The Mole) is its judges are such callous buzzards. So offensively dismissive. So haughty in their derision. So unnecessarily mean. So everything I want my children to be. Ten seasons in, Michael Kors is still the most damning character on that panel, and because he turns 53 today, I say we revisit his most hilarious and cutting barbs. So happy birthday, Mr. Kors! The crotch on your birthday is Insane.

It's hard to believe we've been watching Heidi Klum say "Auf Wiedersehen" to the eliminated designers on “Project Runway” for nine seasons, going on 10. Remember when we tallied the 8 Most Annoying Gay Male Characters in TV History? That turned out to be very cathartic for me, and I thank you for joining me on that annoying journey. But the saga isn't over yet: Now we're counting off the nine most annoying reality TV stars in history, and I may need your help in naming offenders 10-150. Contribute those in the comments.
Word of caution: "Annoying" is sometimes an awesome trait. Definitely not always, but I make notice of the reality stars who rightfully wear the honor of "most annoying" like a badge of honor.

Yeah, nothing about this guy deserves a badge of honor. Can you believe there was a time when we'd have considered Richard Hatch one of the most annoying gay contestants on a reality series? Oh, our innocence! Survivor: One World's Colton Cumbie was a racist,...

Bummed Lifetime isn't have a Project Runway All-Stars reunion this Thursday?! Well have no fear -- TheInsider.com is here! We have a bonus interview with last Thursday night's big winner Mondo Guerra, one of the most beloved designers in the history of the show, where he talked fashion and life. The candid designer opened up about his winning collection, the trials and tribulations of All-Stars and his close friendship with fellow designer Michael Costello.
The Insider: You seemed to have a very intense bond with Michael Costello?
Mondo: I was so happy that Michael made it to the finale, and that we got to share that experience together. Since season eight we’ve become best friends. We’re inseparable, we’re with each other all the time, and we call each other every day. We don’t necessarily talk about the show anymore, because we’ve already finished it, so now we...

The underwhelming season of Project Runway All Stars concluded last night with part 2 of the finale. The drama was minimal, the hairstyles were all wrong and the judging boring. The episode’s saving grace was that the rightful designer was finally named the winner.
Last night Mondo, Austin and Michael revealed their mini collections. In last weeks episode the designers each had to create 6 looks to present this week at Gotham Hall in NYC. Angela had originally said the guest list included many VIP’s but list was basically just past judges, Miss Piggy excluded. In fact, the most exciting VIP was Nina Garcia. I had my hopes up that her and Michael would be the guest judges but that probably would have been way too much personality for this spin off. The producers went with Tommy Hilfiger and fashion director of Neiman Marcus: Ken Downing.

If you recall, in last week.s .Finale (Part 1),. nothing of any significance whatsoever happened. .Finale (Part 2). began with our three finalists squished into the backseat of an Escalade, all Mary J. After Thursday's big win on Project Runway All-Stars, TheInsider.com caught up with Mondo Guerra, one of the most beloved designers in the history of the show, to talk fashion and life. The candid designer opened up about his winning collection, his televised meltdown and his how his life has been affected since coming out as HIV positive in season eight.
TheInsider.com: How does it feel to win Project Runway All-Stars?
Mondo Guerra: It has been time invested and it feels like such a relief. But I’ve really enjoyed the ride. I’ve really taken the opportunity of going on to Project Runway. The first time I ever stepped on that runway, I was ready to share that experience with people. I’ve always created stuff. There's something surreal about picking up the phone and hearing Mondo Guerra's distinctly subdued voice pronounce my name. After all these months of watching the designer compete -- and eventually win -- on Lifetime's "Project Runway All Stars," this is like a breaking of the fourth wall. As much as we know we're watching reality TV, we still think of the contestants as characters, not actual people, right?
And yet here is the season's winner Mondo Guerra in the flesh (well, via cordless phone) ready to chat about his experience on this season's show.
After narrowly losing "Project Runway" Season 8 to Portland-based designer Gretchen Jones, the quirky designer -- who famously shared his HIV positive status with the world during a poignant moment on the runway that season -- returned to fight the ultimate fashion battle against other past runners up.

Mondo Guerra's life has changed quite a bit in the past two years. The Denver-based designer finished second on Season 8 of Lifetime's "Project Runway," only to come back even stronger and win the very first "Project Runway All Stars" season.
Guerra tells Zap2it after his "All Stars" win that he's really had to step back and enjoy his success. "It's been an exciting journey coming off of Season 8 and going into 'All Stars'. It's weird to think this has all happened, both shows, in less than two years. It's a moment of reflection," he says.
Some people could've gotten burnt out from completing "Runway's" grueling, condensed, televised design process twice in a row, but not Guerra. "I would be doing it anyway," he explains. "I would be doing it for myself here in my studio. As an artist you just continue to work. Everything contributes to the big picture.

"Well, bless his heart."
So the final episode of Project Runway: All Stars has arrived, and as expected, eccentric sprite Mondo has taken the crown.
Last week we asked who you thought should win, and who you thought would win. It was pretty much even, with 67% thinking Mondo would win:
Almost as many of you (62%) thought Mondo should win:
In both cases, Austin was the runner-up, while Michael finished third, which is the same order they finished in the finale, so the writing was on the wall going in to the last episode.
Below you can see Mondo's crowning moment, and he talks about what the future holds for the winner of the first Project Runway: All Stars.
Meanwhile, Austin was noticeably, and deliciously pissed when Mondo won, but he seems to be to be taking it all in stride.
Michael was a distant third, but gave the best closing interview.

It's been a long season but we've finally made it to the Project Runway All Stars "Finale Part 2"
After last week's major meltdown, Mondo seems in much better spirits. He even jokes with Austin, asking: "Does Liza Minelli know you went through her wardrobe?"
Austin, the diva that he is, takes it all in stride by comparing his excitement on the big day to having a "fashion orgasm."
There are actually minimal missteps before the big show and Joanna's there to talk them through it. Austin's trying to hide some pins still in his gown while Michael has to take six inches off of one dress due to an improper last minute fitting. Joanna even rolls a lint brush over Mondo so he looks his best.
The two big guest judges are iconic fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger and the fashion director for Neiman Marcus, Ken Downing.

Note: Do not read on if you have not seen Episode 12, the finale, of Lifetime's "Project Runway All Stars."
Ladies and gentleman, this is the moment you've all been waiting for: It's the season finale of "Project Runway All Stars"!
Who will win? Who will lose? Who will wear the weirdest outfit to the big day?
We open on Mondo (which has become a habit), who ominously says, "Today is Judgement Day." That's otherwise known as the show's final fashion show. (Look out for my interview with the winner later today!)
Anyway, the boys are getting ready (though I use the term "boys" loosely, as Austin is literally rocking rollers). He says, "I'm like nervous. I'm gonna throw up." But then, cut to his talking head and he gets excited: "I'm a rock star. This is my chance to ... deliver my message about who Austin Scarlett is." A man in lipstick!

I’m pretty certain there was heated disagreement among the five judges. (Was it possible Isaac Mizrahi was kicking Tommy Hilfiger’s shins just below camera range?) And honestly, any of the three remaining finalists could’ve/should’ve won — depending on what parameters were being considered. But whatever the case, we’ve finally got a winner in the long, not-as-fun-as-it-sounded-on-paper season of Project Runway All-Stars (alternate title, Project Runway: Lifetime Tries to Redeem Its Key Reality Franchise After the Horrors of Season 8).

Previously on "Project Runway: All Stars," the final three designers were given four days to design a line and were given the eliminated designers to pick from like fashion dodgeball for their team for the finale showdown.
The final three are down to Austin Scarlett (Season 1, 4th place), Michael Costello (Season 8, 4th place) and Mondo Guerra (Season 8, runner-up). Their final runway show takes place in Manhattan's Gotham Hall, which is an incredible space.
All the men are working like mad right up until the last minute, but then all the shows seem to go off without a hitch. Our personal taste definitely favors Michael and Mondo's collections over Austin's, especially Mondo's Rorschach-esque pieces. What did you like the best?
At the judging, Austin is criticized a little for not having a "collection" - not all the pieces go together. Mondo is praised for the cohesiveness of his outfits as a collection.

It's down to the wire on Project Runway, and it's between Michael, Mondo and Austin for the grand prize. They've been working on their six piece mini-collections and have hit plenty of snags along the way, but it's time for the moment of truth. The designers will really have to push themselves to ensure that they deliver their very best work at their final runway show, or their dream could quickly be grabbed away. On the morning of the show, Austin is nervous but confident that he can deliver his message about what a "rock star" he is. Michael C is also feeling good, as he believes that there's nothing else he could do to show the judges what he's all about as a designer. While Mondo loves Michael C and is glad to see him in the competition, he becomes emotional and insists that he wants it more and...

It's about dang time! Last week was like an hourlong tease, as we watched Austin Scarlett, Mondo Guerra and Michael Costello prepare for the finale runway show on Project Runway All Stars, but never actually got to see their big moment. That's what tonight was for. The final three pulled up to Gotham Hall, where the fashion show took place, and problems started to occur. Scarlett had to finish his red carpet dress, which meant there were pins on that piece that were hopefully going to be covered by a sash. Michael's pieces weren't fitting right on the models. One outfit's sleeve was way too tight or another dress was six inches too big. What's going on?! He...

With regular "Project Runway" queen Liane Bonin Starr going on hiatus, I'm lucky enough to step in for the show's big finish (although look for a surprise below). And after a season that was more entertaining than many might have expected (especially considering that host Angela Lindval turned out to be a cold meanie), the final three designers could provide a runway finale for the ages. (Yeah, that's incredibly optimistic, but considering the disaster "Project Accessory" turned out to be, we're happy we didn't have to go a year without some good "Runway.") Of the 13 designers who returned to compete in "Project Runway All Stars," we're down to three competing for the ultimate title.
Mondo Guerra, Austin Scarlett and Michael Costello are all vying for the ultimate title on the Lifetime series, which concludes Thursday, March 22 at 9 p.m. Austin and Michael both came in fourth place during their seasons, while Mondo finished second. Which designer are you rooting for in the "All Stars" finale?
Judge Isaac Mizrahi recently told Zap2it that the moment he and his fellow "All Stars" judges crowned an ultimate winner was his favorite moment from the entire experience.

Before I start this week’s recap, I have to say that fan favorite Mondo is coming out of this looking worse and former villainess Kenley came out looking surprising well! If you’ve been following “Project Runway” since the beginning, you know how crazy this sounds. If you watch “Behind the Runway,” you would have seen that Mondo’s been dealing with some off-screen drama, and negative emotions happen to the best of us, but television is unforgiving. I’ll leave it at that. In any case, here we are with the last three contestants, Mondo, Austin and Michael. The task is to make a five-piece collection in order for the judges to [ Read More ]...

It's already time for the finale on Project Runway: All Stars, and it's between Austin, Michael and Mondo for the grand prize and it's anyone's guess as to who will come out on top. For the final challenge, the designers will put on a high-profile runway show for their collection of pieces. They will need to design a mini-collection of five different looks, but the only problem is, it has to be done in the next four days. Should be interesting! They'll have a budget of $$5,000 to do it, as well as a selection of five models to wear their clothes. In addition, instead of mentor Joanna Coles visiting the workroom, the men will visit hers at the Marie Claire offices for some inspiration and feedback. Once there, the group discuss with Joanna how nervous they are about creating their collection and also question Joanna about what she's looking...

It’s the beginning of the end on Project Runway All Stars. After 11 weeks Austin, Mondo and Michael are the only ones left in the running for the biggest prize in Project Runway history. Part one of the finale gets tough with a surprise twist to keep the designers on their toes.
The final challenge is to create a mini collection of five looks to be completed in only four days. The designers began with a visit to Joanna Coles’s offices at Marie Claire. As editor in chief the designers chatted with Joanna about what she looks for in a collection. The whole scene seemed more like a staged plug for the magazine rather than anything productive. If I were one of those designers there is no way I would want to sit in her office when I only had four days to create a collection.

Mondo whipped himself into an epically foul mood on Part 1 of the Project Runway All-Stars season finale, and I can kinda understand why. Whereas Project Runway Regular Edition gives its finalists more than a month — and a sweet budget — to concoct their full collections, host Angela Lindvall delivered the bad news that Mondo, Michael, and Austin would only have four days and a $3,000 budget to come up with five looks (plus an extra garment patched together using discarded fabric scraps from previous weeks’ challenges).

If it's the penultimate episode of a Project Runway season, you know what that means!
Filler.
In the regular season, this is the time we get to follow the finalists home, which is usually fun and interesting, but on All Stars the final three are locked up in individual work rooms and have four days to create five designs for their final showings.
This season's final twist is that the designers also have to create a sixth design using discarded fabric from the previous challenges, but they get to choose one of the castoff designers to help, so at least we get another chance to see Anthony (although I was hoping one of the guys would choose ever-sleeveless Rami).
Because this was the filler show, we don't see any of the final designs, so basically it's just set-up for next week (although we do learn that Mondo can get really,...
