Goodbye, The Lazarus Project. Unless a mysterious sci-fi organisation steps in to reset time to before Sky chose to cancel the mind-bending time travel drama, that’s our lot. After airing two seasons, they won’t be making a third.
The news was first announced in The Sun, and later confirmed by trustworthy outlets including TV Zone and RadioTimes.com. It had previously been rumoured that if season three were to go ahead, creator Joe Barton would be stepping back to a producer role and welcoming in new writers, who would have to do without some of the major cast members including Tom Burke. Now, that won’t happen because season two will be the last.

“Ooh, jukebox” – the words uttered by the Fourteenth Doctor when invited to nosey around the Fifteenth Doctor’s new Tardis in the closing moments of 60th anniversary special “The Giggle”.
Ooh, jukebox indeed. Specifically, the Doctor’s jukebox is a 1946-designed Wurlitzer 1015 nicknamed “The Bubbler” on account of the bubbles that move through its colourful tubes as it plays tunes. Even more specifically, we’ve seen the same make and model of jukebox twice before on Doctor Who, once on the set of Clara’s 1950s-Diner Tardis, and once five billion years into the future on Platform One, where the great and the good are gathered to watch the imminent destruction of planet Earth.
Whether or not it’s supposed to be the self-same jukebox from those previous appearances, or simply something shiny that caught the Doctor’s eye, the songs it plays are significant. Production designer Phil Sims explained...

Warning: contains major spoilers for The Lazarus Project series one.
The new series of The Lazarus Project on Sky does not mess about. Episode one plunges viewers straight back into the action and expects them to keep up with George and the gang’s time travel twists. The last time we saw them, they were stuck in a constantly repeating three-week loop caused by a collapsing-in-on-itself black hole and everybody was losing their sanity. As series two introduces more time travel to the plot, things only get more complicated.
If your memory of all that needs a little refresher on what everybody was up to the last time we saw them, with series one spoilers ahead, read on.
The Very Short Version: Resets, Time Loops & 2012

Be nice to waiters. That’s the first lesson of new four-part BBC One drama Boiling Point. Be nice to waiters not only because it’s nice to be nice, but because however calm and smiling they emerge from behind those flapping kitchen doors, inside blows a hurricane. Personal dramas and business pressures, dodgy colleagues, nightmare customers, shifts that end at midnight and leave you buzzing with adrenaline that needs to go somewhere… it’s the perfect cocktail for dysfunction and conflict. Handily, that in turn is the perfect cocktail for TV drama, as we know from rightly critically acclaimed US series The Bear (watch that and watch this too; there’s plenty of room for both.)
Boiling Point’s second lesson is just to let this creative team get on with it. Give them a second series with the full six episodes immediately, please, because they clearly know what they’re doing.

Have you seen Boiling Point (2021)? The movie was shot in a 90-minutes continuous take (=real single shot) utilizing the Sony Venice Rialto, by the young (23) cinematographer Matthew Lewis. Furthermore, this outstanding 90-minutes single take was shot inside a crowded restaurant. This fact elevates the complexity even further. Boiling Point constitutes a mandatory reference for filmmakers.

In fact, right at press time not one but two of this months featured titles have been pushed, due to strike-related issues.

The indie was one of those behind the multiple-bifa-winning one-camera movie that follows Andy’s (Graham) catastrophic evening as head chef of his own restaurant. The BBC TV series will come out later this year, with Graham reprising his role alongside Vinette Robinson, Ray Panthaki and Hannah Walters.

When the BBC revealed it was adapting hit British indie film “Boiling Point” into a TV show, it was applauded as one of the most forward-thinking orders made at the public broadcaster in years — demonstrating the kind of savvy seen at global streamers, which are always quick on the draw in commissioning adjacent programming for a hit title. This time, Britain’s public broadcaster had also capitalized on a local sensation.
The four-time BAFTA-nominated “Boiling Point” centred on a stressed-out head chef, played by “Matilda” star Stephen Graham, who quickly loses the room in a fast-paced kitchen. The movie, which released in the U.K. in January 2022, used an anxiety-inducing one-shot technique for the entire feature, heightening the intensity of the frenzied kitchen scenes. It later drew comparisons to another claustrophobic kitchen drama, FX series “The Bear,” which premiered last summer.

It’s been two years since the chaotic events of Boiling Point, actor-turned-director Philip Barantini’s audacious one-shot kitchen drama set over one hectic night in a busy, upmarket London restaurant and starring Stephen Graham as Andy Jones, a stressed-out head chef on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
The film — Barantini’s debut feature (and based on his own experiences in the hospitality industry) — was a major success, landing four BAFTA nominations (including Graham’s first on the film side) and winning four of its 11 British Independent Film Award nominations.
While the natural response to such a hit would be to make a follow up, Boiling Point will instead be returning on the small screen, BBC Studios in 2022 announcing a new five-part series that will pick up eight months on from the film’s momentous night. Due to land on the BBC later this year (BBC Studios is shopping...

TNT is apparently out of the scripted series business and dropped the final season of its last original, Snowpiercer, before it could air. On the positive side, the cable channel did license Sky's The Lazarus Project from the UK and also picked up the second season. If the series sees a third season, will TNT stay on board, or will the channel cancel this show too? Stay tuned.

ITV has revealed first-look images for crime drama “Six Four,” starring Kevin McKidd (“Grey’s Anatomy”) and Vinette Robinson as leads Chris and Michelle O’Neill.
The four-part drama, inspired by the bestselling novel “Six Four” by Hideo Yokoyama, is created by BAFTA Scotland-winning screenwriter, Gregory Burke (“Black Watch”). Set primarily in Glasgow, the series is a story of kidnap, corruption, betrayal and a search for the truth, when Chris and Michelle O’Neill’s teenage daughter goes missing.
Serving police detective, Chris (McKidd) is provided with a startling revelation about an infamous, unsolved case that once divided the police when a local girl called Julie Mackie disappeared. Now, reeling from the news that his own daughter has gone missing, Chris is approached by a journalist who tells him that fatal mistakes were covered-up in Julie’s disappearance. In Sophie Barthes’ 2009 debut feature, Cold Souls, medical science had achieved the ability to extract and exchange human souls, albeit with complications. In her new movie, The Pod Generation, technology is messing with nature again, this time usurping the experience of pregnancy, removing all those bothersome downsides like morning sickness and stretch marks. It’s a provocative premise, fraught with philosophical questions, and the French-born writer-director builds her elaborate concept with skill and coherence. She also has appealing leads in Emilia Clarke and Chiwetel Ejiofor, who find subtle comedy without pushing for it. But coolly intellectualized sci-fi is a tricky subgenre to pull off.
With its sleek late 21st century design and droll ruminations on corporate AI technology supplanting authentic human experience, the movie at its best recalls Spike Jonze’s Her. But it lacks the heart and the genuine sense of yearning that made that sci-fi romance such a stunner.

High-stress kitchen dramas are having something of a moment. Last month, The Bear had us all dreaming of the perfect doughnut, yelling ‘Behind!’, and wondering, just how often do chefs end up stabbed in the butt at work? And earlier this year, national treasure Stephen Graham blew audiences away with his intense performance as chef-on-the-edge Andy Jones in Philip Barantini’s one-take, restaurant-set, Boiling Point. The good news is, a second course is coming – we’ll return to the Bpcu (Boiling Point Cinematic Universe) in a new five-part BBC series. The surprising news is, Graham is set to reprise his role, even after the last shot of the movie left his character presumed dead. So just how is Andy going to be coming back?
“Well, we wrote it as a heart attack. In our minds, he lived,” Barantini explains to Empire, in our new world-exclusive Indiana Jones issue. “It was definitely left open to interpretation.

The British drama Boiling Point will be getting a new TV series over at the BBC that will be picking up after the conclusion of the film. The Hollywood Reporter shares the news that the continuation will be a five-part drama that will take place six months after the film. Boiling Point garnered acclaim for the film’s star, Stephen Graham, with his first BAFTA nomination. The film would get nominated for a number of awards as well.

The critically acclaimed film Boiling Point, which stars Stephen Graham (Help) as a charismatic but overworked chef, is set to be adapted for television by the BBC. Picking up six months from where the film left off, the five-part series will see Sous Chef Carly (Vinette Robinson) as Head Chef at her own restaurant, with many of the film’s original cast reprising their roles alongside her, including Graham as Andy and Hannah Walters as Emily. The film’s co-writers, James Cummings and Philip Barantini, will reunite, with Cummings writing and Barantini directing the first two episodes. First released in 2021, the film revolved around a fast-paced kitchen at a busy London restaurant. The action was set over the course of one night and used a one-shot technique for the entire feature, heightening the stress and intensity. However, Graham and Walters have confirmed the series won’t be using the same process.

The movie famously used a one-shot technique for the entire feature, heightening the intensity and urgency of the frenzied kitchen scenes. The series won’t be using the same treatment, Graham and Walters confirmed.
The series will reunite the film’s co-writer and director Philip Barantini, who will helm the first two episodes, with co-writer James Cummings and producers Hester Ruoff and Bart Ruspoli.

Warning: contains spoilers for The Lazarus Project finale.
Even if season one of The Lazarus Project ended with all the characters safe, happy and playing gin rummy while the world enjoyed a sunny, peril-free existence, a second season renewal for this sci-fi thriller would still have been essential because The Lazarus Project is great viewing. It’s exciting and involving, action-filled and, despite its darker-than-dark premise, often very funny. Whatever happened in the finale, we were always going to want more.
And more is the plan, according to creator Joe Barton. Speaking to Den of Geek ahead of launch, Barton confirmed that the first run is “definitely left open for a season two” and he would love to do it. “We’re working on scripts at the moment. Sky are very supportive of it, but it’s like with anything, we have to wait and see how it does and what the reaction is.
