Our run of Gay Icons and Anniversaries continues. After kicking off October with discussions of David Fincher’s Gone Girl (listen), Tobe Hooper’s original The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (listen), and Bob Clark‘s Black Christmas (listen), we’re celebrating Halloween early with Kevin S. Tenney‘s Night of the Demons (1988).

In the film, Judy (Cathy Podewell) is lured by her prospective boyfriend Jay (Lance Fenton) to a party at Hull House, hosted by the school weirdo Angela (Amelia Kinkade) and her boy crazy best friend Suzanne (Linnea Quigley). Along with friends Frannie, Max, Stooge and Helen, as well as Judy’s secret admirer, Sal (William Gallo), the party will accidentally unleash Evil Dead-esque demons that kill and infect the partygoers.

Can the group survive until dawn? Or will Angela and the other demons dance and lipstick boob them to their doom?

Celebrating its 35th anniversary, 1988’s Night of the Demons is a perfect Halloween party movie; not merely because the plot involves a Halloween party, but it embodies the spirit of the holiday.

Director Kevin Tenney (Witchboard) and writer Joe Augustyn veer between creepy and campy throughout the 90-minute runtime. A playfully spooky atmosphere is immediately established by the Scooby Doo-esque animated credit sequence set to a bombastic synth theme by the director’s brother, Dennis Michael Tenney.

The plot follows a group of rowdy high schoolers to a deadly party at the infamous Hull House. As goth hostess Angela Franklin (Amelia Kinkade) explains, the abandoned abode is possessed rather than haunted: “The spirits living in a house possessed never existed in human form. They’ve only existed in spirit form. They’re pure evil. They’re demons.” A seance awakens the spirits, who start turning the partygoers into savage demons.

At the start of this month, we shared the news that Scream Factory will be giving director Kevin S. Tenney’s 1988 classic Night of the Demons a 4K Uhd release on October 3rd – and on that same day, they’ll also be bringing the 1994 sequel Night of the Demons 2 and the 1997 sequel Night of the Demons 3 to Blu-ray. We just didn’t know what extras would be featured on these discs, except for an hour-long special where Tenney interviews Night of the Demons 2 director Brian Trenchard-Smith. Now, with the release date swiftly approaching, Scream Factory has unveiled the full list of extras that will be found on the 4K and Blu-ray discs. The list can be seen below.

Night of the Demons 4K Uhd from Scream Factory

Night of the Demons will be released on 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray on October 3 via Scream Factory. The 1988 cult classic has been newly scanned in 4K from the uncut camera negative with Dolby Vision Hdr and DTS-hd Master Audio 5.1 and 2.0.

Celebrating its 35th anniversary, Night of the Demons is directed by Kevin S. Tenney (Witchboard) and written by Joe Augustyn. Cathy Podewell, Amelia Kinkade, Linnea Quigley, Hal Havins, William Gallo, and Alvin Alexis star.

A workprint version of the film, under its original title The Halloween Party, is included. Other special features include two audio commentaries with cast and crew; interviews with Augustyn, Kinkade, and actresses...

Scream Factory gave director Kevin S. Tenney’s 1988 classic Night of the Demons (watch it Here) the Blu-ray treatment several years ago. Now they’ve announced that they’re upgrading it with a 4K Uhd release – and while they’re at it, they’re finally getting around to bringing the 1994 sequel Night of the Demons 2 and the 1997 sequel Night of the Demons 3 to Blu-ray as well!

The 4K release of Night of the Demons and the Blu-ray releases of Night of the Demons 2 and 3 are scheduled to be released on October 3rd and can be seen on the Scream Factory website. They’re available for individual purchase, or you can buy them in trilogy bundles that include bonus goodies like slipcovers, stickers, and a pin set.

The extras that will be featured on these discs haven’t been revealed yet, but we do know that the Night of the Demons...

Celebrate the halfway point to Halloween by watching a quintessential Halloween favorite on the big screen alongside a scream queen, as Quigley is hosting a 35th anniversary screening of Night of the Demons at the Capitol Theatre in Arlington, Ma on Friday, April 28, at 8:30pm.

The 1988 cult classic will be presented in its unrated form. Quigley — who is also known for her roles in The Return of the Living Dead and Silent Night, Deadly Night — will be on hand to introduce the film and participate in a post-screening Q&a.

The event is presented by MonstahXpo and The Spooky Picture Show podcast. Quigley will be appearing at the MonstahXpo convention in Fairhaven, Ma on April 29-30 alongside the likes of Sleepaway Camp‘s Felissa Rose and Frankenhooker‘s Patty Mullen.

It may not be the best horror movie of the ’80s, but movies like Night of the Demons are the reason we love ’80s horror. Gory, funny, sexy, scary, and silly, it’s the total package of a certain type of horror film that made so many of us fall for the genre in the first place. It’s like mainlining 88 minutes of monstrous fun directly into our horror-loving hearts.

The story is a simple one: goth girl Angela (Amelia Kinkade) is having a Halloween party at an abandoned mortuary that’s supposedly been haunted since a series of grisly murders were committed years earlier. She gathers a group of friends, some booze, and some music, but things don’t go exactly as planned and before you know it, Angela is conducting a séance to pass the time. Another thing these films have in common, is that I have only seen them both a couple of times, and all of that was from rental VHS copies. It’s not that I didn’t like them enough to purchase them on DVD when they made the switch, it’s just that when you’re managing such a huge collection, it’s hard to remember every title you’ve ever liked enough to make it your own. Nevertheless, here we are...

My discovery of Night of the Demons is one I’d consider the fondest of memories. It was back in my skuzzy VHS youth, whereupon I would scour my local mom and pop video store (Rip Video Express), placing the tags you’d need to procure said videotapes for rental. My mother would patronize the store every Friday, and my sister and I would be tasked by the friendly clerks with putting the tags out for returned tapes. I remember my curiosity being peaked by the horror section, because this was where the real gold lay within the store. The box art of these tapes showcased images that couldn’t even dream of being seen in a standard retail...

Dallas's emotional farewell to Larry Hagman airs in the UK next week on Channel 5.

The funeral for Jr Ewing will be the centrepiece for the second season's eighth episode, 'Jr's Masterpiece'. Jr was shot by a mystery killer in the previous episode, a nod to the famous 'Who shot Jr?' storyline from the 1980s incarnation of the show.

Following the death of Hagman at the end of 2012, producers and writers created a tribute to Hagman with the funeral episode.

The instalment features guest appearances from Ted Shackelford as Gary Ewing, Charlene Tilton as Lucy Ewing Cooper, Cathy Podewell as Cally Harper Ewing, Deborah Shelton as Mandy Winger and Steve Kanaly as Ray Krebbs.

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, and Dallas mayor Mike Rawlings also appear.

The rest of season two will centre around the new 'Who shot Jr?' mystery.

Dallas’ iconic theme song will sound a little different tonight as the TNT series says goodbye to J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman) with a memorial and funeral. Watch the revised opening credits below, and make sure you have a tissue handy. Exec producers Cynthia Cidre and Michael R. Robin spoke to EW.com about honoring Hagman, the wonderful last image of him captured on film, and how they orchestrated J.R.’s final act.

Two months after Larry Hagman's November 23 death, the Dallas cast past and present has assembled at the city's swanky Petroleum Club to shoot an epic, drama-filled memorial for his legendary J.R. Ewing. Among the mourners who have returned to pay their respects — or disrespects — are Cliff Barnes (Ken Kercheval), Gary and Lucy Ewing (Ted Shackelford and Charlene Tilton), Ray Krebbs (Steve Kanaly), Mandy Winger (Deborah Shelton) and Cally Harper Ewing (Cathy Podewell). On set, the late actor's spirit is still very much alive. Each morning when he passes Hagman's trailer, Patrick Duffy, who plays Bobby Ewing, knocks on his friend's door. "Not like I'm expecting him to say, 'Come in,'" Duffy says. "But just to say to Larry, 'I'm still here, pal.'" And if you believe some of Hagman's costars, he's been knocking right back.

Two former Dallas stars will return to the series for Jr Ewing's funeral. Ruthless oil tycoon Jr will be written out of the revamped soap following the death of actor Larry Hagman, who had played the character since 1978. Deborah Shelton - who played Jr's mistress Mandy Winger on the original Dallas between 1984 and 1987 - will make a brief appearance in the funeral episode, TV Guide reports. From "Private Practice" to "The Good Wife" ...

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Private Practice" alum Audra McDonald has booked a guest role on "The Good Wife" as Alicia's (Julianna Margulies) enemy from their Georgetown Law School days.

McDonald is only slated for one episode at the moment, but will possibly have an arc.

Other Season 4 "Good Wife" guest stars include Matthew Perry, Kristin Chenoweth, Maura Tierney and Michael J. Fox.

Deborah Shelton and Cathy Podewell are headed back to "Dallas." J.R.'s mistresses are on their way back to Southfork for one last J.R.-related hurrah. Known for playing Mandy Winger and Cally Harper, the actresses will reprise their roles to say a few words at J.R. Ewing's (Larry Hagman) funeral. [TV Guide]

"True Detective" has nabbed some new cast members. Alexandra Daddario, Elizabeth Reaser, Wood Harris and Michael Potts have all landed roles in HBO's new series.

One of the most popular nighttime soaps in television history, Dallas ran for an impressive 13 seasons (14 if you count the five-episode mini-series as a season). But, the CBS TV show was seriously running out of gas by the time it ended in May of 1991. The final season ranked 63rd in the ratings, a far cry from its earlier seasons when it was the most-watched series on television.

Still, the final season has plenty of drama, with storylines centered around murder, kidnappings, blackmail, seductions, and scheming galore. The cast includes Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, Ken Kercheval, Howard Keel, Sheree J. Wilson, George Kennedy, Cathy Podewell, Kimberly Foster, Sasha Mitchell, and Barbara Stock. Barbara Eden (Hagman's co-star from I Dream of Jeannie) even stops by to play a former girlfriend of Jr's who's out for revenge.

For the die-hard fans of 1980.s prime-time drama, Dallas season 12 comes to DVD. It is really nothing we haven.t seen before with J.R. wheeling and dealing and Cliff scheming to get Ewing Oil. Wait, in this season Cliff Barnes (Ken Kercheval) is a partner of Ewing oil due to Bobby Ewing.s (Patrick Duffy) influence and guilt over Pam.s accident (remember in previous season she had a car crash and was burned badly thus ending her stint at Southfork).
