The other Oscar nominees are “The Holdovers” (edited by Ace president Kevin Tent), Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Anatomy of Fall,” and “Poor Things.”

Jon Favreau’s live-action/CGI reboot of The Lion King continues to accrue a big-name Hollywood cast, with The Wrap reporting today that Chiwetel Ejiofor is in talks to voice the evil Scar. If talks go forward, he’d be filling the shoes of Jeremy Irons, who played the role with velvety menace in the 1994 original.
Ejiofor recently served his time in the Marvel movie mines, playing Baron Mordo in Doctor Strange. (Before that, he starred in 12 Years A Slave, The Martian, and stretched his villain muscles as the honorable-but-evil Operative in Serenity.) He’d join a cast that includes Donald Glover as Scar’s initially cheerful nephew Simba, Jon Oliver as punctilious hornbill Zazu, and James Earl Jones, reprising his role as Mufasa.

Jon Stewart has finally found his big post–"Daily Show" move: He's following Jon Oliver to HBO! The network announced today that it had formed "an exclusive four-year production pact" with Stewart, under which the former "TDS" host will produce "short form digital content" for HBO Now, HBO Go, and mysterious "other platforms." It all sounds very futuristic, especially the part of the press release that talks about how Stewart "is developing new technology," which will allow him to eviscerate people, concepts, and minerals multiple times a day. HBO will also have first-look rights for any other film or TV projects Stewart dreams up, which should come in handy the first time one of these segments gets someone in trouble with the Iranian government. The full press release is below: Jon Stewart and HBO have concluded an exclusive four-year production pact, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming.

After having proven himself as a host on the Daily Show, filling in for Jon Stewart, Jon Oliver was given his own show by HBO and the result was one of the best new shows of last year. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver distinguishes itself from The Daily Show and other shows similar by being sharp and focused with its satire without restriction of other shows on cable networks channels.
Now entering its second season HBO has released a trailer to promote its return that pokes fun at the idea of changing up an already successful show just for the sake of promotion. There are many reasons for audiences to catch up with the show now and tune in when it starts airing new episodes again.
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver season two will premiere on Sunday Feb. 8, 2015 at 8pm Est on HBO. Watch the season two trailer below.

Jon Oliver changed the game with his groundbreaking news coverage in 2014, and now he's going to do it all over again in Season 2. That's right. "Last Week Tonight" is going to remain exactly the same. Though the omniscient narrator in the trailer below seems to have a problem with that, he's most certainly the only one. In a rather clever bit of promoting, Oliver takes center stage in what appears to be an empty airplane hanger, with critics' kudos for Season 1 read and displayed over him. Oliver is both poking fun at the process — it's noted "Last Week Tonight" was both the best and 16th best show of the year — while still letting viewers know just how big of a deal he and his show have become, especially to the internet-savvy viewers of 2015. The bit continues as the marketing-focused narrator tries to throw attention-grabbing ideas at the proud British reporter,...

At last year's Emmys, after "The Colbert Report" finally defeated "The Daily Show" for Best Variety Series, journalists grilled Stephen Colbert in the press room about how he was able to finally take down the decade-long champ. Giant palmetto bugs, rain-soaked meth labs, strip clubs -- yup, that's August in Tampa. But this year, the city is also site of the Republican National Convention. Which meant Jon Stewart and "Daily Show" correspondents Jon Oliver, Jessica Williams, Jason Jones, Samantha Bee descended on the city Tuesday to explain how it exemplifies Obama's America. Supposedly. Jones and Bee are married, so it seems a little unfair that he got to deliver his report while getting a lapdance while Bee had to be carried around by a giant insect. Yet another thing that is...

A New gun-slinging fantasy series mixing the Wild West, steampunk, angels and a town that exists for only a day is coming next year.
The Good, The Bad and The Infernal, from author Guy Adams (pictured), is the first book in the Heaven's Gate Chronicles series, to be published by Solaris in April 2013. Details of the second title in the series will be announced in the near future.
"Guy's writing is fresh, exciting and laced with a wicked sense of humour," said Jonathan Oliver, editor-in-chief of Solaris. "I love a good Western, but Guy's new series is so much more than that. The Heaven's Gate Chronicles promises to be a hell of a ride, and heaven to read."
Roughly every 100 years a town appears. From a small village in the peaks of Tibet to a gathering of mud huts in the jungles of South America, it can take many forms.

After last November's crowd-pleasing, critically acclaimed, and Oscar-winning film The Muppets, Walt Disney Studios has not lost sight of Jim Henson's famous creations. There have been several reports of a sequel being put into production without the involvement of Muppets star/co-writer Jason Segel. The Muppets will also appear as part of a shipwide adventure game/scavenger hunt ("The Case of the Stolen Show") on Disney's newest cruise ship, the "Disney Fantasy." But the biggest news of late is that Disney is trying to reinvigorate the Muppets on the medium where they started, TV.
In an announcement introducing other Disney television series in the works (including a preschool reboot of "Winnie-The-Pooh" and a new cartoon series "Randy Cunningham: Ninth Grade Ninja" featuring the voices of Tim Curry, Ben Schwartz and Jon Oliver), one of Disney's foreign TV executives hinted at a future on TV for the Muppets. “We would...

Familiar history gets a new twist in Clifford Beal's debut novel Gideon's Angel, recently acquired by Solaris for publication in 2013.
Described as The Day of the Jackal meets The Devil Rides Out, this swashbuckling historical fantasy set in the aftermath of the English Civil War of the mid-17th century sees science and alchemy as strange bedfellows with witchcraft and magic.
Set in England in 1653, it follows Colonel Richard Treadwell, an exiled Royalist officer in the service of Cardinal Mazarin, as he secretly returns home from France to assassinate Oliver Cromwell, now king in all but name.
But a secret army run by a deluded Puritan is bent on the same quest, guided by the Devil's hand. When demonic entities are summoned, Treadwell must switch allegiances to save Cromwell and stop England descending into hell. First he must convince the man sent to bring him back to the Cardinal: A young king's musketeer named d'Artagnan.

Newt Gingrich's messy personal life is providing comic fuel for The Daily Show. During Thursday's episode on Comedy Central, Jon Stewart and correspondent Jon Oliver took aim at Gingrich's marital history -- now back in the news in a big way following Nightline's controversial interview with Marianne Gingrich -- noting the resemblance between the so-called "Freaker of the House" and Dwight Schrute, the eccentric salesman portrayed by Rainn Wilson on NBC's The Office. Another Gingrich lookalike, according to The Daily Show: the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from the first Ghostbusters movie. "This emotionally and physically repugnant man, who on his best

Solaris Books has announced that it has acquired the sequel to Helix by sci-fi author Eric Brown.
Helix Wars will be delivered in the spring of 2012, for publication in autumn next year. The agent was John Jarrold, and the deal was for UK and Us rights.

The work of an ancient alien race known only as the Builders, the helix resembles a spiral staircase with each twist or circle consisting of well over 10,000 worlds.
Each world has its own unique atmosphere and there are some 6,000 alien races within the colossal structure - all at varying levels of technological accomplishment.
"I'm very excited that Eric is returning to the worlds of Helix," said Jon Oliver, editor-in-chief of Solaris. "And it's great to be continuing to work with Eric,...

Bestselling author Eric Brown is to take readers on a voyage into Weird Space in a new shared world he has created for Abaddon Books.
The space opera series will begin in June 2012 with the release of The Devil's Nebula by Brown, who previously wrote Helix, Engineman and The Kings of Eternity.
In the first book, Brown will introduce readers to the human smugglers, veterans and ne'er-do-wells who are part of the Expansion - and their uneasy neighbours, the Vetch Empire.
When an evil race from another dimension - which infests humans and Vetch alike and bends individuals to do its hideous bidding - threatens the Expansion and the Vetch, only cooperation can make the difference between a chance of survival and no chance at all.
Brown's shared world will be explored by other writers with each subsequent book.
It's the latest addition to Abaddon's series of shared worlds which...

Solaris has unveiled the covers for Rowena Cory Daniells' new fantasy trilogy The Outcast Chronicles, due out in 2012.
The books in the trilogy - Besieged, Exile and Sanctuary - each come with lush, detailed cover art by Clint Langley, who was responsible for the covers on Daniells' best-selling The Chronicles of King Rolen's Kin and whose work is regularly seen in weekly comic anthology 2000 Ad.
The Outcast Chronicles follows the fate of a tribe of dispossessed mystics. Vastly outnumbered by people without magical abilities, they are persecuted because ordinary people fear their gifts.
This persecution culminates in a bloody pogrom sanctioned by the king who lays siege to the Celestial City, last bastion of the mystics.
It's billed as a family saga set in a fantasy world. Four people linked by blood, love and vows struggle with misplaced loyalties, over-riding ambition and hidden secrets which could destroy them. Some make...

Abaddon Books has struck a deal with Multistory Films to bring Scott Andrews' post-apocalyptic novel School's Out to the big screen.
School's Out is part of Abaddon's popular Afterblight Chronicles series. It's been described as Attack the Block meets Lord of the Flies and follows the final days of St Mark's School for Boys where teachers are killing each other, the prefect is experimenting with crucifixion and the rival gang from across town has decided that ritualistic cannibalism is the way to go.
Multistory Films is a new UK-based production company, which recently completed post-production on its debut feature film, a low-budget horror thriller called The Harsh Light of Day. This will be closely followed by art house feature Verity's Summer, written and directed by Short film Palme D'Or nominee Benjamin Crowe.
Jonathan Oliver, editor-in-chief of Abaddon Books, said: "We're delighted that the quality of Scott's work on School's Out...
