Succession star Brian Cox has said the actors strike will “affect British Equity far worse than it will probably affect SAG-AFTRA.”
“We are at the thin end of a really horrible wedge,” he said as he addressed the London Equity rally this afternoon in support of striking actors. He didn’t elaborate on why Equity would be harder hit by the strike, which has just entered it second week.
The veteran British star stressed that things are also harder in the U.S. due to the lack of a national health service.
“SAG is an excellent union but in the U.S. we don’t have a national health service so what is important to SAG actors is health and they need that,” he went on about the dispute. “That’s why they need their residuals.”

Exclusive: “We are not going to have the UK used as a backdoor to undermine SAG-AFTRA’s dispute,” the leader of UK actors union Equity has declared.
Speaking exclusively to Deadline prior to Equity’s first rallies in support of the U.S. actors’ cause, Paul Fleming denied that the labor action which has just entered its second week across the pond will be a boon for his members.
Much of the talk internationally has centered on whether more international actors will be able to get work while U.S. talent down tools and some U.S.-commissioned shows filming internationally such as House of the Dragon and Alien have pushed on with British talent. But Equity has said, for example, that it will unequivocally support SAG’s refusal to isssue new Global Rule One addenda during the strike and, while refusing to comment on specific shows, Fleming pointed out...

A number of actors, comedians and TV personalities have joined the voices condemning the Labour party’s controversial new campaign advert.
The ad bears a picture of prime minister Rishi Sunak, alongside the words: “Do you think adults convicted of sexually assaulting children should go to prison? Rishi Sunak doesn’t.”
To justify the claim, the advert cites the fact that “under the Tories”, 4,500 adults convicted of sexually assaulting children under the age of 16 had served no prison time.
The statistic is based on data going back to 2010, when Sunak was yet to even become an MP and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer was serving as Director of Public Prosecutions.
The advert was shared by Labour’s main account and retweeted by a number of several Labour figures, including Starmer’s Director of Strategy. It was met with outrage from many across the political spectrum.
Actor and director Samuel West wrote: “Please withdraw this.
