Jude Law doesn’t seem like the type to lead a Star Wars installment, but he is going all-in for the upcoming series Skeleton Crew, headlining as Jod Na Nawood. It’s also only one of a handful of shows Law has been in.
Speaking on why he decided to finally join the Star Wars force, so to speak, Jude Law said it took a lot of contemplation because of the scale of the series. “I don’t think I would have dived in willy-nilly. I wanted it to be right. I didn’t want to be the guy that dropped the ball on Star Wars.” Oh, don’t worry, Jude, plenty of people have beaten you to the punch on that one…

It's been confirmed that Nick Frost (Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy) will be in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, voicing a droid that the four kid main characters find. Named Sm-33, this droid is very much evoking the pirate vibe that's been a big part of the promotional material so far. But is that the only character that Frost is playing?
While promoting his newest horror film, Get Away, Frost spoke in a long interview with The Hollywood Reporter about his career. Of course, Skeleton Crew came up where he said something of note. Frost said:
I got a message from Jon Favreau to say just, ‘because you’re a robot doesn’t mean that you can’t appear somewhere as yourself.'Nick Frost Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Sm-33 voiced by Nick Frost. Image Credit: StarWars.com | starwars.com

Nick Frost writes and stars in the horror comedy Get Away. Here’s the trailer for the film once known as Svalta.
Nick Frost both writes and stars in the folk horror comedy Get Away – a movie originally going by the name Svalta. The synopsis reads as follows:
Looking forward to a vacation on the small Swedish island of Svälta, the Smith family is unsettled by the unfriendly mainlanders who advise them to avoid the island at all costs, especially during the Karantan festival. But the 4-member family is in deep need of some time away & stubbornly decides to take the ferry anyway. On the island, the locals are rather rude & unwelcoming, and their behavior suggests that some big event is about to happen. Is it a cult? Is there a sacrifice in the works? Seemingly unbothered by so much discourtesy and drama, the family enjoys a swim in the sea,...

Back in 2022, it was announced that Fighting with My Family co-stars Nick Frost and Lena Headey were going to reunite to work on the serial killer thriller Svalta, which was set to start filming in Finland soon… but then Headey had to drop out of the project due to scheduling issues before it started rolling in 2023 and was replaced by Aisling Bea, whose previous credits include This Way Up, Living with Yourself, and Home Sweet Home Alone. In August, IFC Films and the Shudder streaming service acquired the North American distribution rights to Svalta, which is now going by the title Get Away, and the plan is that IFC Films will be giving the movie a theatrical release on December 6th. Get Away will then make its way over to Shudder sometime in 2025… But if you’ve been wondering how the release of Get Away is going to be handled in the U.

It's been well over a decade since "Indiana Jones" filmmaker Steven Spielberg and "The Lord of the Rings" director Peter Jackson teamed up to bring us "The Adventures of Tintin." Based on the works of Hergé, it was an ambitious motion-capture adaptation of the "Tintin" comics that was intended to be the start of a full-fledged franchise. Spielberg directed the first installment, with Jackson expected to direct the sequel. Sadly, that sequel never came. So, what happened exactly? And is the movie still going to happen?
Last we heard about "Tintin 2" was way back in 2018 when Spielberg, who was in the midst of promoting "Ready Player One," suggested that it was still going to happen. Or, at the very least, that he still wanted it to happen. Here's what Spielberg had to say about it at the time:

Since Irvin Kirshner directed The Empire Strikes Back in 1980, many creators have stepped into the director's chair to work on the franchise. From Kirshner to Gareth Edwards to the late Carl Weathers, the list has been vast and brought their unique style and vision. Now, the latest series, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, has a slew of talented directors ready to take on the mantle.
Showrunners Jon Watts and Christopher Ford have assembled a unique lineup. Watts himself comes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having directed the recently released Spider-Man trilogy. Other directors who have signed are Bryce Dallas Howard, Lee Issac Chung, David Lowery, Jack Schreier, Daniel Kwan, and Daniel Scheinert, all of whom are slated to direct an episode.

We’re somehow already in the fourth quarter of 2024, but the good news is that we’re getting a new Nick Frost horror movie every month as we wrap up this year. The action horror comedy Krazy House, which JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray hated when he caught a screening at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, was given a VOD release on October 4th. The serial killer thriller Get Away will be getting a theatrical release on December 6th. And slotting in between those two is the supernatural horror movie Black Cab, which is coming our way from Shudder, Sony Pictures Television, and Stolen Pictures, and will be released through the Shudder streaming service on November 8th. Our friends at Bloody Disgusting got the first look at the trailer, which is now embedded above.

Stars: Nick Frost, Aisling Bea, Sebastian Croft, Maisie Ayres, Eero Milonoff | Written by Nick Frost | Directed by Steffen Haars
Nick Frost scripts and stars in this holiday-gone-wrong comedy-horror, directed by Steffen Haars (New Kids Turbo). Originally known as Svalta, Get Away has a jet-black sense of humour and a fun sting in its tail.
Get Away begins with a British family – dad Richard (Frost), Irish mum Susan (Aisling Bea) and late-teen kids Sam (Sebastian Croft) and Jessie (Maisie Ayres) – driving through the Swedish countryside, on their way to a holiday they’ve booked on a remote island. Along the way, they are repeatedly warned that visiting the island is a terrible idea, not least because of less-than-friendly locals and an annual celebration they will be performing that revolves around the island’s bloody history, in which the British played a grisly part.

Alice Lowe’s second shot in the director’s chair is a brilliantly imaginative rom-com-thriller. Here’s our Timestalker review.
Agnes (Alice Lowe) has a lot of problems, and most of them are the same man. After falling in love with a dashing young heretic (Aneurin Barnard) in 1688 and getting a halberd in the head for her trouble, you’d think she’d have learnt her lesson.
But when another Agnes – a wig-toting aristocrat in 1793 – has her carriage held up by a familiar looking highwayman, she falls head over heels once more. She does the same as a Victorian schoolteacher in 1847, a popstar’s superfan in 1980, and a dystopian scavenger in the distant future.
It’s a killer premise, and an ambitious one. Eight years on from her brilliantly twisted directorial debut, Prevenge, Lowe proves that film’s brand of high-concept genre cinema goodness wasn’t a one off. When it works,...

A passion project in the works for eight years, Alice Lowe’s follow-up to Prevenge borrows from the likes of Terry Gilliam and Stanley Kubrick to tell a story about the obsessive pursuit of love, with a healthy side of schlocky gore. Lowe has long been something of a savant of the strange and macabre, from her breakout role in Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace onwards. But her imagination really runs wild here, leaping between centuries with aplomb, even if the jokes are disappointingly weak.

Find Ari Aster‘s 2019 cult horror film “Midsommar” a little too self-serious? Well, director Steffen Haars has a remedy for you: “Get Away,” a slasher comedy about a family who goes on vacation to a remote Swedish isle with a sinister secret and somehow retain their British pluck as murders pile up around them.

It begs the question: why didn’t anyone think of this idea sooner? A comedic riff on “The Wicker Man” and its ilk sounds a charming sit for horror fans, even if “Get Away” remains a minor lark of a film. And with Nick Frost as the family’s Dad, there’s sure to be plenty of laughs in this one, too.

Last month, IFC Films and the Shudder streaming service acquired the North American distribution rights to Svalta, which is now going by the title Get Away, and the plan is that IFC Films will be giving the movie a theatrical release on December 6th. Get Away will then make its way over to Shudder sometime in 2025. As we dive into spooky season, a trailer for Get Away has now arrived online and can...

Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis makes its much-anticipated theatrical bow in UK and Ireland cinemas this weekend for Entertainment Film Distributors.
The sci-fi epic will open in at least 300 cinemas and marks The Godfather director’s biggest theatrical release in decades. It stars Adam Driver as a visionary architect tasked with rebuilding the city of New Rome as a modern Utopia.
Megalopolis polarised critics when it premiered at Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and has faced further controversy since, including several allegations of inappropriate behaviour from Coppola towards female extras on the film’s set. This extensive publicity, combined...

"Coming here was a big mistake for you." IFC Films & Shudder have revealed the first official trailer for a wacky new horror comedy called Get Away, which just premiered at Fantastic Fest to some rave reviews. The film is written by Nick Frost and directed by the Dutch horror comedy filmmaker Steffen Haars (of New Kids and one half of Krazy House). A family's vacation to a remote getaway takes an unexpected turn when they discover the island they're on is inhabited by a serial killer. But who exactly is it? The Smith family arrives on a tiny Swedish island called Svälta where they get into all kinds of trouble. Fantastic Fest adds: "Fueled with dark humor, mean jokes, and outrageous scenes, Get Away will mislead you all the way to an unexpected, twisted ending. So come on board and enjoy the trip to Svälta!" Yes this sounds like a fun one!

Described as a comedic slasher movie, Get Away from director Steffen Haars (Krazy House) has been acquired by IFC Films and Shudder, and the trailer has arrived this week.
The film was previously titled Svalta, and it’s hitting theaters from IFC Films on December 6, 2024. From what we understand, Get Away will slash into Shudder in 2025.
Written by and starring Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), the film follows a family on their summer vacation to a remote island where they discover a serial killer is on the loose. Unfortunately for them the locals have no interest in helping the stranded family.
Frost said in a statement this week, “I’m thrilled Get Away has found a home at IFC Films and Shudder, alongside the constant support and collaboration with Wayward Entertainment and the gang at XYZ. It’s such a good fit and a real relief knowing...

Let's go on holiday! Everyone needs a break, and no matter where you come from, that need to disappear, disconnect, and spend time with the people that you love in a new environment is something that we can all relate to. So why not visit the tiny Swedish island of Svalbard? It has everything that you need. Beautiful cottages, lush forests, creepy locals, and weird traditions. And a few murders.

Elijah Wood is best known for his role as Frodo in The Lord of the Rings, playing an adventurer answering the call, and his latest film, Bookworm, sees him return to the genre (and country) that made his career. An adorable family adventure, Bookworm benefits from the charm of its leads to deliver a compelling watch despite its meandering story.
Bookworm Review
Bookworm follows an eleven-year-old girl forced to go on a camping trip in the New Zealand wilderness with her estranged father, a washed-up magician, hoping to catch a glimpse of a mythical creature to earn the reward for sighting footage. Although it is hardly the most exciting adventure you’ll find — the characters aren’t saving the world or looking for some magical talisman — it works because of how invested viewers will get in the characters and their relationship.

Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) is best known for his collaborations with friend and co-star Simon Pegg, but recently, he’s been trying to make a name for himself as a solo act. The horror-comedy Get Away proves that Frost has the juice it takes to carry a film, even if the script (which he also wrote) is a bit underdeveloped.
Get Away Review
Get Away follows a family whose idyllic vacation to the Swedish island of Svalta becomes a nightmare when they are met with hostility from the local residents and a psychopathic killer on the loose. Frost’s script certainly deserves points for being unpredictable and not following the beaten path, but his ambitious swings don’t always pay off in a rewarding way.

Nick Frost is a major part of "Shaun of the Dead" which is, without question, one of the greatest horror-comedy films in history. While we impatiently await Frost's reunion with director Edgar Wright and co-star Simon Pegg, it should delight viewers to know that he is back in the genre with "Get Away." It should also delight you, dear reader, to know that the movie is a great deal of fun -- but it all relies on avoiding spoilers. You've been warned.
I recently had the good fortune of seeing the film at this year's Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas. While I can't rightfully say it was the best movie I saw at the Fest this year -- that honor goes to "The Wild Robot" -- it is the one that gave me the biggest "i didn't see that coming" moment, which left me grinning and chuckling in delight.

On Sept. 24, 2004, Universal bowed the zombie comedy film Shaun of the Dead in theaters stateside. The film, starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, went on to gross $30 million during its global run. The Hollywood Reporter’s original review is below:
A great joke is recycled to very funny effect at the start of this engaging zombie movie spoof. In 1979’s Love at First Bite, George Hamilton, fetched up in full Dracula regalia, wanders the streets of nighttime Manhattan to the complete and utter disregard of the locals. Here, agreeable slacker Shaun (Simon Pegg) drifts through his North London neighborhood after the pubs close at night, completely oblivious to the fact that he’s strolling among the living dead.
Outside of the slick Richard Curtis school of Hugh Grant humor and television’s The Office, British comedy is in dire straits these days. So Pegg, who co-scripted this clever and well-crafted movie,...

Nick Frost is no stranger to horror comedies, having starred in such modern classics as Shaun of the Dead and Attack the Block. This year, the actor has already starred in Krazy House (review), and now he is reuniting with that film’s director Steffen Haars in Get Away, a frequently amusing folk horror comedy that relishes in bloodshed almost as much as it does cringe comedy.

Debuting at the Sundance Film Festival right at the start of the year (we covered it here), Krazy House – a movie you can comfortably describe as a bit ‘out there’ – was met with a mix of reviews, some of them very much on the hostile side.
Headlined by Nick Frost and Alicia Silverstone, Krazy House was described as like the sitcom bit of Natural Born Killers turned into a feature film.
I interviewed Nick Frost for the latest issue of Film Stories magazine, and he was open about the fact that some really hadn’t taken to the film at all. But also, that the movie is a bit of a swing.

"Krazy House is taped in front of a live studio audience." (Though not really...) XYZ Films has revealed an official trailer for the film Krazy House, a bonkers weird & crazy creation from the two Dutch filmmakers Steffen Haars & Flip van der Kuil. This premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival at Midnight, and the reviews were awful. It's an acquired taste if you're into this kind of wacky humor. When Russian workers in Bernie's house turn out to be wanted criminals on the hunt for stashed loot, Bernie must man up and save his wife and the rest of his studio audience approved sitcom family. It's a riff on 90s sitcoms, taking place all in one "crazy house", but with even more disgusting and heinous things happening all the time. XYZ Films has dropped a new trailer for Krazy House, the action-horror comedy which our own Chris Bumbray absolutely hated when it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
Part ’90s sitcom, part blood-soaked, gross-out mayhem, the Krazy House trailer proudly features its offensive subject matter as a badge of pride. The films stars Nick Frost as Bernie, a religious homemaker who discovers that the Russian workers in his house are, in fact, criminals searching for loot. In order to save his wife and the rest of his studio audience-approved sitcom family, Bernie has to man up and unleash his inner beast. The film was written and directed by Steffen Haars & Flip van der Kuil and stars Nick Frost, Alicia Silverstone, Kevin Connolly, Gaite Jansen, and Walt Klink.
Krazy House feels like it’s targeting a very niche audience who might appreciate its shock humour, but that didn’t include Bumbray.

It later screened at International Film Festival Rotterdam,...
