An anchor for Taiwan’s iNews was live on air relaying a message from the country’s earthquake early warning system when the actual 7.4 temblor hit Tuesday.
Video shows the newscaster did not even pause as she began to report on what would later be recognized as the island’s biggest shake in decades. The camera cut to wildly swinging light cans in the studio rafters and then back down to the intrepid anchor who, while visibly rocked by the shaking, did not break eye contact. Her only concession to the jolt was to reach back with one hand and brace herself against the video screen behind her. Watch below.

The Xbox brand has taken a bit of a battering lately. At the very beginning of the year, they dramatically shifted their content strategy by porting four of their existing first-party games to competing platforms PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
Around the same time, Helldivers 2‘s unexpected runaway success among PS5 and PC players kicked Xbox players when they were already down, and the relentless onslaught of PS5 exclusives made it worse still. Fans of the Microsoft console have desperately needed a win, and come May, their prayers may be answered.

After a 7-year wait, Hellblade 2, the sequel to Ninja Theory’s 2017 hit Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, will finally launch on May 21 this year. Unlike the first game, though, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will only land on Xbox and PC, as Microsoft acquired Ninja Theory in 2018.
January’s Xbox Developer_Direct provided an in-depth look at the game, showing off its astounding photorealistic graphics, while subtly hinting at the story. It was also confirmed that the game will cost $49.99 and be roughly as long as its predecessor (7-8 hours). This may have disappointed some who wanted a longer experience, but the revamped combat system should make up for it.

"It was like the sound of waves at the seashore. But a thousand times stronger." Another stellar animated short film is now available to watch online after playing on the film festival circuit for a few years. Tsunami Girl, also listed as The Girl and the Tsunami, is an animated film telling a true story about an island off of the coast of Chile (see Google Maps). It's made be a collaboration of filmmakers from Argentina and other countries. In early 2010, on a remote island in the Pacific Ocean called Juan Fernandez, everyone slept in town. But a 12-year-old girl felt a tremor and warned of imminent danger. The short was commissioned to tell help spread awareness of alert systems for tsunamis, especially in remote places like this small island. "Because if Martina had not alerted her neighbors, the story would have been very different, and even more terrible." It's...

Wolverine and Spider-Man crossovers just work. Fact! I think because they are such polar opposites in terms of age and personality the chemistry just comes naturally, especially when the writer is at the top of their game, like Percy so clearly is. In a way it is Marvel’s answer to Batman and Robin, what really makes it work is that despite it being a hit every time, there aren’t that many instances of them teaming up. Well, we can now add this issue to the playlist. This very much had the feel of a throwback Marvel Team-Up issue. Two popular heroes, smashing through iconic villains in the form of Sentinels without having much continuity fat to chew through. One thing that stood out for me and made it even more enjoyable was that...

So far this series has not missed a beat. Providing action packed entertainment whilst flirting around the edges of Wolverines extensive existing continuity. I was interested to see if this issue could keep up that consistent run as it ties closely to such n important moment from Wolverine’s past; that being the Weapon X experiment. The Wednesday Warrior in me wasn’t entirely comfortable with this story weaving into the timeline of the classic story arc. We get a combined five pages bookending the Weapon X stuff and I think this goes a long way to the issue not depending on that completely. If you ignore the nagging question of when this would actually occur during the experiment and enjoy it for what it is this is very fun,...

How many times can I open these reviews by saying how fun a read it is? Well, as long as Percy keeps delivering at this level I will have to keep saying it. I will be the first to admit that #37 left me unconvinced both in terms of the issue overall and the general direction the arc was taking. Maybe I judged too quickly after one issue and of course, I don’t envy writers who have a good thing going on having to work around a tie-in. But the execution of this issue completely won me over on the direction the story is moving. Modern comics are populated by writers who are over-complicating things. Percy is keeping an element of fun, whilst being able to move his story along without getting bogged down. The...

Back in the 2000s, one horror franchise would reign supreme over all others… Saw. From 2004 to 2010, seven films were released and each was more gruesome than the next. People usually break the franchise down into different groups as to which is their favorite. There’s the original trilogy, which most would say is where the best films stem from. It’s also where Leigh Whannell, James Wan and Darren Lynn Bousman had the most control over the franchise. There’s the middle trilogy, which most tend to hate and believe the series jumped the shark. Netflix’s Spanish-language smash La Casa De Papel (aka Money Heist) has set a new record for the streamer. With more than 34.3M households tuning in for Part 3, this is the largest first-week global household turnout for a non-English-language Netflix series. Over 70% finished the entire season in the initial seven days.
The third installment of the Alex Pina-created phenomenon launched on July 19. Evidenced by the massive viewing numbers, fans of the series are legion around the world — and not only in Spanish-speaking markets, but extending to such countries as France (where advertising for Part 3 has been wall-to-wall), Italy and India. In the first week, Money Heist Part 3 was the most-watched title in Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Brazil, Chile and Argentina, among others, Netflix tells Deadline.

Madrid — The third part of “La Casa de Papel” (“Money Heist”), Netflix’s most-watched non-English language show, is entering production and has added new cast. Netflix dropped a first video on Thursday celebrating the occasion.
Produced directly by Netflix and Vancouver Media, the Madrid-based shingle of series creators Alex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato, the third part of “La casa de papel” was originally announced in April. Very little was known then about its plot apart from that “the professor will plan new heists, revealed in 2019,” Netflix said, and that much of the original key cast would return.
“The band is back. This time it will be more than a heist and, with new members, the stakes are raised,” Netflix announced Thursday.

Rating (out of 5): ***
Doing away with conventional exposition is a tricky business but Lisandro Alonso gets away with it fairly well in his 2008 film Liverpool, just now making its DVD debut via Kino Home Video. It's one thing to ignore exposition when you have a main character who is relatively open and sociable. When you have an extreme loner, as is the case with Alonso's "hero" Farrel (played by Juan Fernandez, in real life a snowplow operator), this makes connecting with the movie much more difficult. And yet I believe the director/co-writer (with Salvador Roselli) manages even this challenge better than might be expected.

When a movie’s promotional material includes the information that it’s from the same writers “as Saw IV, V and VI”, you know that you’re not likely to be treated to subtlety. And thus it proves with The Collector, co-written by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan (who also directed). Locksmith Arkin (Josh Stewart), in an effort to pay off some of his ex wife’s debts, decides to rob the home of a recent client. The client is a jeweller, and is supposedly away on holiday with his family. However, when Arkin breaks into the house, he soon realises that the property’s not as empty as he believed. Get Him To The Greek (15)
(Nicholas Stoller, 2010, Us) Russell Brand, Jonah Hill, Sean Combs, Rose Byrne, Elisabeth Moss. 109 mins.
Who knew that if you put together every Brit rock star cliche in the book, you got Russell Brand? Record-label nerd Hill is charged with keeping the wayward Brand on the comeback trail here, but no one's taking the story that seriously; instead there's a tireless stream of one-liners, bit parts and surreal sidetracks to keep us (just about) amused. Brand is fine, but Diddy's manic music exec steals the show.
Good Hair (12A)
(Jeff Stilson, 2009, Us) 96 mins.
Chris Rock is an amiable guide on this documentary journey into African-American hair obsession, bantering in salons, quizzing black celebrities (Maya Angelou, Eve, Ice-t, Salt-n-Pepa), and tracing the cultural and chemical origins of relaxants, weaves and wigs without ever getting too serious.

I’ve been following the progress of The Collector for a long time now, and it’s good to see the film finally getting a release in UK cinemas (yes I know, it’s already out on DVD in the Us) and so here’s the official UK quad poster and trailer, courtesy of distributors Icon:
For handyman and ex-con, Arkin (Josh Stewart), a quiet home and a family on vacation is an “opportunity”. For inside the house lies a jeweller’s safe, and inside the safe is a rare gem – his only hope for repaying his ex-wife’s debt and keeping what’s left of his family intact. Unfortunately for Arkin, inside the house is also a box containing the latest specimen in a collection catalogued in blood, bone and tears - a human specimen packaged as “bait”.
While the trap may have already sprung shut on parents Michael...

Icon's new film The Collector is a horror thriller with a twist, rather wonderfully being described as Saw meets Home Alone, and we have an exclusive look at the movie's first poster, which you can check out below...
Directed by Marcus Dunstan and featuring a cast including Josh Stewart, Juan Fernandez and some relative unknowns, The Collector hails from the writers of Saw, IV and VI and tells the story of an ex-con who is desperate to repay a debt to his ex-wife and so plots a heist at his new employer's country house, unaware that another criminal has also targeted the home and rigged it with a series of deadly traps. It hits cinemas on June 25 this year.

The players: Director: Marcus Dunstan, Writers: Patrick Melton, Marcus Dunstan, Cast: Josh Stewart, Madeline Zima, Michael Reilly Burke, Andrea Roth, Juan Fernandez
Facts of interest: Dunstan and Melton also wrote the last three "Saw" films.
The plot: A handyman breaks into ah home only to realize he's not the only intruder.
Our thoughts: Fancy yet another round of totally brainless big-screen violence lacking suspense and innovation? If so, then I suggest you check out Marcus Dunstan’s latest horror flick “The Collector,” an ultra-monotonous experience that stole 88 minutes of my life but failed to offer me any thrills or surprises.

Even if you didn’t know from the ads that The Collector (opening July 31) is “from the writers of Saw IV, V & VI” (and now VII), it would be pretty easy to tell from the movie’s emphasis on torturous physical abuse and visual fetishization of its implements. And the good news is that it’s better than the last couple of Saw sequels, in large part because it has a sympathetic and well-acted protagonist at its center.
That’s Josh Stewart as Arkin (his first name), whose day job ironically has him installing security devices, considering that his night job involves breaking into houses he has worked on and making off with valuables. In desperate need of cash to help his ex-wife Lisa (Daniella Alonso), who’s got custody of their daughter and loan sharks after her, Arkin implores his criminal employer Roy (Robert Wisdom) for a quicker payoff on his next job.
