It’s hammer time for Idris Elba. The actor is set to star in and produce Hammer Down, an action feature that marks the directorial debut of Simon Hatt, who previously produced projects for Marvel Studios and DC.
Veteran producer Charles Roven, who won his first Oscar earlier this year for best picture winner Oppenheimer, is producing Hammer Down via his Atlas Entertainment along with the company’s Madison Weireter. Elba is also producing with Gina Carter (See How They Run) via their 22Summers banner. Black Bear will offer the title at next week’s American Film Market.

The year is almost over, but 2024 has plenty of sci-fi and fantasy goodness to serve us before we ring in a new one. Below, check out some of the biggest movies and TV shows worth checking out in November, with an emphasis on the strange, the wondrous and the fantastical:
Arcane season 2: November 9 (Netflix)
The second and final season of Netflix's Emmy-winning animated series Arcane drops this November, and it promises to have even more magic, bloodshed, and brutal twists and turns than the first. This show may be based off the League of Legends video game, but don't let that fool you; Arcane has a story that's on par with anything the genre has to offer. It primarily follows two sisters, the bruiser Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and chaotic criminal Jinx (Ella Purnell), as they are torn from their humble roots and pitted against each other in a devastating class war.

At the end of 2021’s “Dune,” Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atriedes looks out across the desert in awe as he sees a Fremen of Arrakis riding a sandworm.
It was a tease of what was to come from director Denis Villeneuve in this year’s “Dune: Part Two.” Paul and his mother Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) immerse themselves in Fremen culture in the sequel, and the sandworm ride is a coming-of-age ritual. Paul riding a massive worm would be his ascension to power. The white-knuckled sequence where Paul mounts one and rides across the desert was something cinematographer Greig Fraser had to get right.
Speaking to Variety for the Inside the Frame series, Fraser explains “This is his journey of becoming accepted by the Fremen. It’s a journey that has come a long way up to this point. There is some part of the Fremen community that believes he’s going to die,...

In 2010, AMC Networks premiered The Walking Dead, an apocalyptic series that aired for 12 years across 11 seasons. Based on the comics created by Robert Kirkman, the series became wildly popular, beyond what anyone could have imagined, and has inspired other series within the genre.
The Walking Dead has been praised for its earliest and final seasons, with mixed reviews for its seventh and eighth seasons. While it is set in an undead apocalypse, the stories revolve around the survivors and their experiences after the outbreak occurred. Many viewers note this is why the series became so popular.
Long-standing cast members for the series include Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Chandler Riggs, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Several of these characters' stories have continued in the long line of spinoffs of the main series. Let's check out some...

Mike Flanagan with Rebecca Ferguson from Doctor Sleep – now adapting the Stephen King novel, Carrie [Image @flanaganfilm on Instagram]
Mike Flanagan is renowned for his horror TV shows and is once again teaming up with Stephen King for an adaptation of Carrie.
Carrie was Stephen King’s first published book and nearly didn’t happen. However, after he threw it into the garbage, his lovely wife, Tabitha King, rescued it and encouraged him to publish the terrifying book. Of course, there have been many more King books published, and while may be in the past, horror maestro Mike Flanagan is returning to Stephen King’s world to adapt Carrie as a series on the small screen.

Admittedly, Stephen King fans will feel a little trepidation over the adaptation of the author’s popular book, as many have not done his work justice.

One of the year’s most anticipated and epic musical scores won’t be in the running for an Academy Award.
Warner Bros.’ “Dune: Part Two,” directed by Denis Villeneuve, was met with critical acclaim when it hit theaters in March. Both critics and audiences lauded the film’s visuals, storytelling, and, most notably, the music score by Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer. However, Zimmer’s powerful and evocative score for the sci-fi epic is not eligible to be submitted for this year’s Oscars due to surpassing the Academy’s limit on pre-existing music; therefore, it cannot be nominated in the best original score category.
The Academy’s rule states: “In cases such as sequels and franchises from any media, the score must not use more than 20% of pre-existing themes and music borrowed from previous scores in the franchise.” Since Zimmer’s composition for “Dune: Part Two” incorporates substantial...

In 2023, Austin Butler came pretty close to nabbing his first Oscar win, thanks to his immaculate portrayal of the King of Rock and Roll. But despite taking the Golden Globe accolade home, the actor ended up losing to Brendan Fraser in the race for Best Action at the 95th Academy Awards. With Dune 2 becoming one of the most acclaimed releases of the year, it seems The Bikeriders might be getting his second shot at the accolade.

Liam Payne had multiple recreational drugs in his system at the time of his tragic death last week, a toxicology report has revealed.
According to an ABC News report, the late One Direction singer had substances in his body including “pink cocaine” — a cocktail of drugs typically including ketamine, Mdma, methamphetamine, and more — as well as cocaine, benzodiazepine, and crack. A makeshift aluminum pipe for taking drugs was also found in his hotel room.
Just minutes before Payne fell to his death from a balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Wednesday (October 16th), a hotel manager made an emergency call out of concern for an “aggressive man who could be under the effects of drugs and alcohol.” Believing Payne’s life was at risk, the manager added, “When he is conscious he is destroying the entire room and we need you to send someone.”

Christopher McQuarrie's 2015 action blockbuster "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" — the fifth film in the series, and handily its best — has an unexpectedly inverted action movie structure. It begins with the film's biggest, most impressive stunt, and ends with characters merely sitting around a table, discussing how they are to defuse a bomb strapped to a colleague and locate the bad guy who is orchestrating his end of the conversation by remote. And yet, despite the inversion, the tension never stops mounting. Each moment of the film's extended climax gets decreasingly small, while the excitement only rises.
Recall that, just two hours before, audiences were witnessing an unsimulated stunt, wherein Tom Cruise clung to the side of a plane as it was taking off, riding it up into the sky. Cruise actually had to be strapped to the side of a real plane to do that, and even required special...

Paddington duo Paul King and Simon Farnaby are bringing Prince Charming to the big screen for Disney.
Director Paul King cut his teeth on Noel Feilding and Julian Barratt’s surreal sitcom The Mighty Boosh, while writer Simon Farnaby was a member of the original Horrible Histories team, who later went on to make the hugely successful Ghosts. They made their feature film debut in 2009 with The Bunny And The Bull.
If 2014’s Paddington captured the hearts of the nation, then 2017’s Paddington 2 – one of the greatest family films ever made – turned them into absolute treasures.
They made a left field turn into prequel territory in 2023 with the delightful Wonka – The Divine Comedy’s Neil Hannon was robbed of the Best Song Oscar for Never Had Chocolate Like This – and since then film fans have been eager to see what the pair will do next.
Now, we have the answer.

Los Angeles loves its crystals, but one particular piece is making the rounds right now. Halle Berry rocked a citrine necklace on the red carpet. Viola Davis was spotted off-duty in the same design. Jessica Chastain recorded a bathroom beauty tutorial in hers, while Rita Ora wore an amethyst version in London and aboard a yacht in Ibiza. Nina Dobrev, Julianne Hough, Rebecca Ferguson and Alessandra Ambrosio, too. So, who is behind this mysterious crystal and diamond-accented design, and why is it seemingly everywhere?
“It’s a piece to protect your peace,” explains actress Abigail Spencer (Suits, Grey’s Anatomy, Mad Men), who collaborated with close friend and L.A. jewelry designer Maya Brenner on the Retreat necklace collection, which retails on mayabrenner.com for $495. “It’s not just a piece of jewelry,” Spencer says. “It’s a way of life.”

Silo is coming back for Season 2 and the first trailer hints at the wild action to come!
One of Apple TV+’s biggest recent hits, Silo premiered in 2023. Based on the novel by Hugh Howey it’s set in the future, where a mysterious disaster has left Earth uninhabitable. Ten thousand survivors reside within a massive underground city where class warfare is sadly all too commonplace.
After a strange death, engineer Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) agrees to become a makeshift sheriff for the city to investigate what happened. That leads to twists and turns before discovering that the city’s de facto mayor Bernard (Tim Robbins), was behind the death to hide some of the silo’s secrets.
Among those was Juliette finding a video of the outside world that showed it vibrant and green, seemingly proving it was okay to leave the silo. She briefly played it to the city...

The first “Silo” Season 2 trailer promises to build on that jaw-dropping Season 1 cliffhanger with even more surprises, including Steve Zahn as a survivor from another silo.
The tag for the trailer finds Rebecca Ferguson’s Juliette taking refuge in another silo after venturing outside. There, she comes across a fellow survivor played by Steve Zahn, but he may not be so friendly.
Elsewhere Tim Robinson’s “head of It” is trying to quell a simmering rebellion after the entire silo saw Juliette go over the hill instead of dying like everyone else who’s ever left the silo.
“Season 2 is dark. It’s a bonkers exciting season,” Ferguson told TheWrap of the new season. “It is huge, man.”
The actress is under contract for four seasons which would hope to complete the adaptation of Hugh Howey’s book series, but so far “Silo” has only been renewed through Season 2.
