BritBox’s reboot of British satirical puppet show Spitting Image has been renewed for a second season just days after it premiered the first episode of Season 1 online.
The Avalon-produced caricature comedy will be back in fall 2021 after BritBox said its first series premiere helped boost new subscribers ten-fold compared to its average daily sign-up rate.
Reemah Sakaan, group director of ITV SVOD and chief creative and brand officer of BritBox, said: “The fantastic response to Spitting Image just goes to show how much the world needs public service satire. Not only can subscribers look forward to another 9 weeks of anarchy but also now another series in 2021.”
The renewal comes just hours after executive producer Jon Thoday revealed that NBC backed out as Spitting Image’s U.S. broadcast partner just weeks before the premiere. The Avalon founder said there was “too much nervousness” about its satirical content among NBC executives.

‘The High Note.’
Universal’s musical dramedy The High Note premiered in the US on-demand and on about 100 screens, mostly drive-ins, in late May, while Warner Bros’ Cats & Dogs 3: Paws Unite! went straight to digital in the US.
So Australian exhibitors had modest expectations as both titles opened in cinemas last weekend while ticket sales remained depressed but should pick up from today with the school vacation.
Typifying the malaise, no title cracked $1 million last weekend as Numero reported the top 20 generated $3.6 million, down 5 per cent on the previous frame.
“The current school holiday line up is one of the worst I have ever seen,” Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace Gm Alex Temesvari tells If.
“The only major family film is Trolls World Tour and unfortunately we had to pass on it as, outside of a Frozen or a Toy Story, we can’t justify opening a family film outside...

"There's always consequences." Lionsgate has released the official Us trailer for a UK comedy titled Four Kids and It, a fun-for-the-whole-family creature feature adapted from the book by Jacqueline Wilson. This already opened in the UK in April, and debuts in the Us in June. A group of kids on holiday in Cornwall meet a magical creature on the beach with the power to grant wishes. Can they learn to control the magic before something dreadful happens? Starring Paula Patton, Matthew Goode, Ashley Aufderheide, Billy Jenkins, Ellie-Mae Siame, Caroline Sheen, with Russell Brand and (yes believe it) Michael Caine as "It". Crazy. This looks like a Disney Channel remake of E.T. in the UK, which might still be fun to watch. Everything about this looks so kooky and delightfully strange. Plus, who doesn't want magic powers? Here's the official Us trailer (+ poster) for Andy De Emmony's Four Kids and It,...

As the coronavirus pandemic wreaks havoc on film release schedules around the globe, displacing many titles from their natural theatrical environment, a few have instead found their spiritual home on the small screen. “Four Kids and It,” a lightweight British kids’ fantasy, falls firmly in the latter column. Always intended as a multiplatform release in the U.K. through the Sky Cinema network, it has instead taken the VOD-only route on the eve of what would have been the Easter school vacation — making it a welcome diversion for families going stir-crazy under national lockdown. But it also flatters the limitations of Andy De Emmony’s blandly chipper film, which feels, both tonally and aesthetically, more suited to afternoon children’s TV schedules than any venue larger than a living room.
That’s a somewhat disappointing outcome for a family film with a sparky literary pedigree. “Four Kids and It” is...

If we’re being completely honest, on-set interviews can often be quite generic affairs. While immensely enjoying the intimacy of speaking to filmmakers and actors in bespoke, unique environments, catching anyone on their lunch break can feel a little hurried and intrusive. But with Russell Brand it felt somewhat different, as when we travelled to Dublin to visit the set of family adventure flick Four Kids and It, we had a profound conversation about fatherhood, politics and chocolate.
Four Kids and It is directed by Andy De Emmony (Father Ted) and is based on Jacqueline Wilson’s novel which in turn is based on the famous E. Nesbit tale. Brand plays the primary antagonist, an eccentric pantomime-villain of sorts called Tristan, and it’s a role tailor-made for the comic performer, who explains that this is a role, and project, he is excited to be sharing with his own offspring.

This Easter, Sky customers and cinema goers will be treated to the latest reincarnation of E. Nesbit’s 1902 novel Five Children and It. While most people will remember the 1990s BBC version, the story was also made into a film back in 2004 with Eddie Izzard voicing the Psammead. However here, the story is again adapted from kids author Jacqueline Wilson’s 2012 best-selling book “Four Children and It”.
This family adventure centres around a newly blended family. An American mother Alice with her two daughters, angry-at-life Smash and sweet Maudie, and a father, David with his son and daughter, gaming-mad Robbie and reserved Ros.
The parents set out on a rather disastrous plan to bring the children together for the first time by taking them all away to Cornwall on holiday. Needless to say, the children are not best-pleased by this ambush and immediately take a dislike to each other, especially the two older girls,...

I can’t believe we missed the official trailer and clip from Andy de Emmony‘s horror comedy Love Bite. Yep, shit happens, but maybe we can (still) fix some things: over 30 new images with Jessica Szohr and Ed Speleers, one pretty weird poster (plus trailer and that clip) are waiting for you in the rest of this report. Give them a try ’cause for the virgins of Rainmouth, things are going to get hairy! Written and directed by Andy de Emmony, the movie revolves around a mysterious Traveller girl who was suspected of being a werewolf. In other words, Ed Speleers plays...

Michael Palin and Steve Oram will also appear in the drama, which tells the tale of two soldiers who produced a satirical 'trench newspaper' - The Wipers Times.
The Wipers Times - penned by Hislop and Nick Newman - is described as "a story of the extraordinary resilience of the human spirit in the face of overwhelming adversity".
"Just like the original Wipers Times, this new history drama will be filled with jokes, spoofs and amazing examples of courage behind the laughs," said BBC Two controller Janice Hadlow.
"I am delighted to be bringing such a brilliant drama and cast to BBC Two."

We’ve seen the whole losing of virginity narrative before, in fact American Pie was entirely based around that very premise – yet director Andy De Emmony brings us a somewhat unique spin to what has become a conventional cinematic device, embellishing upon a much-told subject matter, as these boys don’t just want to pop their cherry, they absolutely need to.
Set in the uncompromising seaside town of Rainmouth, virgin Jamie (Ed Speleers) and his three best friends Kev (Luke Pasqualino), Bruno (Robin Morrissey) and Spike (Daniel Kendrick) spend the majority of their days hanging around in arcades and chip shops, struggling to find any inspiration in their lives – until American travel writer Juliana (Jessica Szohr) comes to stay, as she catches the eye of romanticist Jamie.
As the pair become more intimate, Jamie is thrown off kilter by the news from eccentric werewolf hunter Sid (Timothy Spall) that Juliana is the said beast,...

It’s not everyday you see a film about werewolves hunting virgins in a small English seaside town, but in Andy De Emmony’s Love Bite, that’s exactly what we’re treated, and ahead of the film’s pending release – on November 9th – I was fortunate enough to catch up with leading stars Ed Speleers and Luka Pasqualino.
The pair play two young men, bored of life in the town of Rainmouth, and desperately hoping for a route out one day. However, their somewhat placid existence is soon put at threat when a werewolf stars attacking local residents, with Jamie’s (Speleers) love interest Juliana (Jessica Szohr) a prime suspect.
Speleers, who we can currently see in Downton Abbey, and Pasqualino – of Skins’ fame – were in good spirits, as they discuss the unique narrative of Love Bite, as well as the pleasure of working with experienced comedy director De Emmony,...
