Harper Steele is, with no exaggeration, one of my favorite comedy writers to ever do it. Not only did she write on "Saturday Night Live" from 1995-2015, the years when I was developing my own sense of humor, but she's also behind the Lifetime film "A Deadly Adoption" and the Academy Award-nominated Netflix flick, "Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga." She was also a writer on the "Doug" episode "Doug's Cool Shoes," which has some of the best visual joke-telling of the animated series' first season. This is to say that Steele has been formative in shaping my ability to find humor in the world around me.
Over the years, Steele has become best friends with Will Ferrell, arguably one of the most recognizable comedic actors in the world. Ferrell and Steele are frequent collaborators, and their latest project is "Will & Harper," a documentary about the pair...

An airheaded anchorman, a perpetually upbeat elf, an evil Lego minifigure — Will Ferrell has found a variety of colorful outlets for his comedy over the years. Ever since he first graced the stage of "Saturday Night Live's" iconic studio 8H back in 1995, Ferrell's distinctly fluid, improv-heavy, and hilariously infectious brand of humor has helped him successfully make the jump from small-screen funnyman to one of the biggest and most bankable movie stars working today.
It's a bit more than that, though. Ferrell's comedic talents have attracted some unlikely comrades over the years — people like John C. Reilly and Mark Wahlberg — and in turn, they have helped create a new comedy sub-genre that's unafraid to keep things fast and loose when it comes to off-script gags and adlibs. With riskier, more thoughtful entries scattered through his résumé, he's not one to rest on his laurels either.
All this, we know.

CBS’ “Big Brother” is a reliable bet to be primetime’s highest-rated title whenever a new episode airs. But despite leading the night on Thursday with a healthy 0.76 rating in the advertiser-friendly 18-49 demographic, CBS wasn’t actually the highest-rated network overall. Instead, Fox managed to net the most impressive average demo rating on the night with a 0.65. It was also the most-watched network overall Thursday with 3.1 million total average viewers. How did Fox do it? Well, as anyone who follows these daily ratings updates knows, you never bet against live sports in primetime. Also Read: ‘Big Brother’ Wins Wednesday’s Highly Competitive Primetime Ratings Battle Here’s how primetime shook out across the broadcast networks: As mentioned, Fox was No. 1 in both average demo rating (.65) and total average viewers (3.1 million) Thursday night, according to official live plus same-day Nielsen data. The late, legendary MLB broadcaster Harry Caray returned in hologram form at the MLB’s second Field of Dreams game, which took place Thursday (August 11) on a field near the set of the famous Kevin Costner movie in Dyersville, Iowa. Caray, who passed away in February 1998, was known for singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” which he was credited with creating and popularizing. The familiar tune rang out during the game’s seventh inning on Thursday night, with a hologram of Caray leading the anthem “All right, let me hear you,” the hologram said. “Been a while. A one, a two, a three…” The Caray hologram then performed the song in unison with the crown in attendance for the game between the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs. Harry Caray, the legendary broadcaster who passed away in February of 1998, made an appearance at Thursday night’s “Field of Dreams” game between the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs — by way of a singing hologram that was either “awesome” or “odd,” depending on who you ask.
This year’s “Field of Dreams” game was again held at its movie namesake location, in Dyersville, Iowa, and aired on Fox. In keeping with the theme and in the wake of Ray Liotta’s recent passing, the proceedings included a brief tribute to Shoeless Joe Jackson’s late portrayer, by film star Kevin Costner.

It was homecoming for Will Ferrell, who returned to Saturday Night Live this weekend and immediately reprised his role as George W. Bush. The greatest hits, however, pretty much stopped there.
Folks tuning in to see the return of Jeopardy host Alex Trebek or legendary sports announcer Harry Caray were left to make do with, umm, Jacob Silj. Thankfully, Ferrell still managed to put on a great show, kicking things off with a tuneful monologue that found the potentially concussed host wandering into the audience to sing about the “rudest man in show business,” Lorne Michaels.

Charlie Sheen thinks the World Series will go 7 games, and perhaps controversially, doesn't take a side on who he thinks is going to win it all. The actor wrote a lengthy letter published by THR in which he summarized the World Series so far, including his take on Bill Murray's now-infamous rendition of "Take Me Out To The Ball Game," and more.
Starting first with Bill Murray and his...questionable decision to do the thing as Daffy Duck, Sheen said this...
I should also mention Bill Murray's "Take Me Out to the Ball Game." As a student of the game, Bill's intro sounded like he was talking about Harry Caray, but then he goes into Daffy Duck. That doesn't sit at the doorstop of baseball's unearthed mythology. It's was... different. That's all I'm saying.

YouTuber Ross Taylor created this mashup of 1989's Major League and 1993's Rookie of the Year, which works fairly well for a bit before devolving into nonsense by the end (spoiler alert: it appears as if both teams win). Still, though, for those of us who grew up loving the baseball movies of this era, it's somewhat interesting to imagine the two batches of characters operating in the same universe.

Hollywood may be known for its storytellers, but the greatest of them never wrote a script, cast an actor or called “action!” to put his tales on the big or small screen. That’s because Vin Scully only needed a microphone to tell his stories. In a sport, baseball, that produced many of sport’s best chroniclers – Roger Angell in the New Yorker, Doris Kearns Goodwin in memoir, Ken Burns in documentaries, Harry Caray in the broadcast booth, W.P. Kinsella and Philip Roth in novels – Scully, who will retire at the end of the season after an astounding 67 years as.

Will Ferrell was scheduled to stop by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday night to promote his new movie Get Hard, but instead, the actor and comedian came out dressed as snack icon Little Debbie, sporting her signature blue plaid dress and apron, black Mary Janes, and curly red wig under a straw hat. On Thursday, he'll be barnstorming Major League Baseball's spring training, suiting up for ten different teams at five Arizona ballparks and playing "every position on the field, and maybe some off the field." It's all part of...

We can hardly contain our excitement!
The Saturday Night Live 40th anniversary special is right around the corner and we cannot stop fanaticizing about all the incredible characters, past castmembers and guest hosts we might get to see in Studio 8H again.
One alum we can’t wait to see return to the stage: Will Ferrell. Yep, that's right. He'll be back … he just has no clue what he'll be doing when he gets there.
Watch: Amy Poehler, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph Reveal Their Favorite 'SNL' Characters
"I have no idea what the show is going to be like. I keep asking some of my fellow cast mates, like, 'Do you know what's going on?' and they're just like, 'Nope'," Will told Et's Brooke Anderson. "We're just showing up and it should be kind of an amazing 3 hours of television."

The last we saw the Dunphy/Pritchett clan, they were celebrating at a beautiful, fourth-time’s-a-charm wedding for Cam and Mitchell. Over the summer break, the newlyweds went on a honeymoon. Cut to three months later, where we pick up: Cam is still very much in that lovey-dovey frame of mind. There are endless flowers, backrubs, at-work drop-ins, shared chairs, dancing, etc. Mitchell is tired of it, but his wise sister tells him to keep that thought to himself. But one can only handle so much love in the form of balloons and life-size cardboard cutouts, and when even Lily grows weary,...

Looking back on four decades of "Saturday Night Live" impersonations, it's cool to see how many ways a celebrity impression can be hilarious, provocative, or just plain effective. Sometimes an impression works because it's a dead-ringer for the real thing (See: most of Dana Carvey's work), but sometimes a twisted or loopy take on a familiar figure is even more engrossing and funny. We've picked the 25 best celebrity impressions in "SNL" history, and for the sake of such a short list, we're only including impersonators who served as cast members on the show. (This means Kate Hudson as Drew Barrymore and Tom Hanks as Dennis Miller will have to wait for another list.) I'll start the countdown by acknowledging the 10 candidates who almost made the cut but just missed: Terry Sweeney as Nancy Reagan, Jan Hooks as Tammy Faye Bakker, Kristen Wiig as Suze Orman, Jimmy Fallon as Barry Gibb,...

Two days before the finale of "The Spoils of Babylon," star Will Ferrell held a Reddit Ama session to bring awareness to a charity drive he's going to raise money for Cancer For College.
As one could expect, Ferrell shined in his Ama, with dozens of jokes to spare. He was even able to raise over $100,000 for the cause. Below, check out some of Ferrell's best moments, including a story about the time he was almost Spider-Man, before his "Spoils of Babylon" co-star Tobey Maguire got the role.
Given the fact that Jennifer Lawrence's voice sounds a lot like yours when slowed down, can you take over the "Hunger Games" franchise? That, and maybe all her future roles?I approached the producers of "The Hunger Games" franchise and asked them exactly about this. They said, "That's a ridiculous proposal for you to think you could take over her role Katniss Everdeen.

Will Ferrell took part in Reddit's "Ask Me Anything" series Tuesday afternoon. Because he's a stand-up guy, he was doing it to support Cancer for College (a charity that helps provide college scholarships to cancer survivors) on World Cancer Day, and because he's Will Ferrell, he made a lot of ridiculous jokes.
Here are the best bits, starting with a question from Snoop Dogg (Reddit username: Here_Comes_The_King).
Snoop: ayy Will, imma need some more cowbell on tha next album, u game?
Will: Of course! I'm absolutely game, Snoop. I've also got some beats that I want to run by you.

Thirteen times; seriously, John Goodman has now hosted Saturday Night Live 13 times. I can’t think of anything significant I’ve ever done 13 times. And I was really looking forward to maybe rubbing Goodman’s episode in the faces of those who are just holding on until Fallon/Timberlake next week. It’s not that those two aren’t great; they are, and all of my fingers are crossed for them. But Goodman has been just as good in the past, an SNL champion if ever there was one.
It was 2001 when Goodman last hosted and, for reference, Ja Rule was the musical guest.

"Hey! What about this? If you had a choice between being the top scientist in your field or getting Mad Cow Disease, which would it be?" This Will Ferrell line (playing Harry Caray) in one of the all-time great SNL skits was my first thought after watching this week's auditions on America's Got Talent.
After two hours of acts from New York City and Los Angeles (again), picking the one act to watch was easier than answering that hilarious question. Sure, there was an abundance of talent, but there was next to nothing that stood out, and I blame the setup of season 8.

Nick Offerman is a man of many talents. He can literally build boats with his bare hands and he can probably whittle a decent depiction of Ernie Banks in the time it takes you to read this post. But he cannot, for the love of Harry Caray, sing a lick. At least that’s the premise of the latest New Era Rivals ad that pits his Cub-loving fan against Craig Robinson’s South Side rooter. Offerman’s attempt at singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” would give Simon Cowell a seizure. As Robinson says, “You sound like a donkey being touched inappropriately.

Update at 10:36 p.m. on May 24,2012: Start time changed from noon to 10 a.m.
Chicago – In 2012, one of the undisputed movie champions will be Christopher Nolan’s (final) Batman trilogy film: “The Dark Knight Rises”. After transforming Chicago into Gotham City for 2008’s “The Dark Knight” and feeling snubbed when Pittsburgh won out for this last bout, you needn’t wait until opening day on July 20, 2012 to see the new film’s Tumbler and Bat-Pod.
Coined the Tumbler Tour, the hugely anticipated film will be dropping Chicago anchor in the flesh for one day only (for now): this Friday, May 25, 2012 at Navy Pier at 600 E. Grand Ave. from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on the dock side near McDonald’s and Harry Caray’s restaurant.
The Tumbler Tour for “The Dark Knight Rises” comes to Chicago on May 25, 2012 at Navy Pier.

Will Ferrell's been gone from "SNL" for 10 years now. I don't know how we've kept it together since then, as Americans. He was the closest thing to this country's Kim Jong-Il: Everyone would cry in the street if he died, and sunglasses made him look like something in one of the saltwater tanks at Sea World.
Plus, he defined our moral fiber there for a few years. If there was a Will Ferrell Constitution, it would almost exclusively tell us that it's awesome to yell at helpless dogs, and that you desperately need to get off the damn shed. That was the turn of the century in a nutshell.
Well, thank god, Will Ferrell's back on Saturday hosting "SNL." We get a reminder of the good ol' days, when he could talk about the moon as a food product for five minutes and that would be considered a complete sketch.

Tomorrow night, Will Ferrell returns to host Saturday Night Live for the third time — and will be the third SNL alumnus, after Jimmy Fallon and Maya Rudolph, to do so this season. As with his former colleagues, Ferrell poses a challenge to the SNL prognosticator in that it's tough to guess which of his dozens of returning characters he'll want to revive. Then there's the fact that the project Ferrell is presumably there to promote (the feature film The Campaign) doesn't come out until August. Will he bother to flog it? Would he balk at reprising his Harry Caray or Robert Goulet just because both those gentlemen happened to have passed away? These are just a few of the considerations I had to keep in mind when preparing the predictions below.11:29 p.m. Cold Open: In light of the week's events, former President George W. It was just announced that Will Ferrell will return to Studio 8H on May 12 to host Saturday Night Live for the first time since 2009!
Historically SNL pretty much lets Will take the wheel as host (as they should) and try out any character that comes to mind.

Personally, I'm praying that fans get some sort of Anchorman homage -- whether it's in the monologue or Weekend Update. But there are also a whole treasure trove of characters Will could resurrect when he hits the stage. Here are the Top 5 famous Ferrell folks I'm hoping to see on May 12!
1. Alex Trebek
With ace impressionists of ludicrous stars (Jay Pharoah's Will Smith, Vanessa Bayer's Miley Cyrus, Nasim Pedrad's Kim Kardashian) in the cast, Will could have a field day with a new round of Celebrity Jeopardy!

Well, now you’re in luck! Here’s Texas Rangers pitcher Derek Holland — fresh off nearly throwing a shutout in Game 4 — strapping on a headset during Game 5 and giving his best Harry Caray impression, doing 30 seconds of impromptu play-by-play and adding a rare moment of pop culture inspiration and whimsy to a series that badly needed some: He even threw in a bonus Schwarzenegger impression before the commercial. The ball is in your court, St. Louis, and you’re running out of games. How’s Chris Carpenter’s Peter Falk?...

This veteran comedian is sure to have a laugh-out-loud birthday!
Will Ferrell first gained notoriety for his seven-year stay on Saturday Night Live. He humored the world with his impersonations as President George W. Espn’s Espy Awards have become surprisingly fertile ground for comedy over the past few years. Remember when Jt smelled David Beckham’s foot in 2008? Or when Will Ferrell and John C. But this clip of Dinner for Schmucks costars Steve Carell and Paul Rudd spoofing Lebron James’ The Decision last night might just be my favorite Espy clip of all time. Check it out here:
