In a new interview, the actor said he would like to be involved in the sequel film currently being developed by Disney.
“If Jake has a story to tell, I’d be there in a heartbeat,” Murray told E! News while promoting Mother of the Bride. “Are you kidding me? Just to watch Jamie and Lindsay, to go back to work… To watch all that energy that Jamie brings to set… Hollywood royalty, period.”
Murray said he “learned so much” from Curtis on the set of the 2003 film and added, “If I had the opportunity, I would just dial in.”

Freaky Friday 2 is moving ahead at Disney with Nisha Ganatra directing, here are the details we’ve got of the follow-up.
While Jamie Lee Curtis is of course a horror icon from the Halloween franchise, and she won an Oscar in 2022 for her performance in Everything, Everywhere All At Once, Freaky Friday, the beloved body swap film in which she starred opposite Lindsay Lohan, is a terrific comedic performance.
Based on the book by Mary Rodgers, the 2003 film, a remake of the 1976 film of the same name which starred Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, follows Tess Coleman (Curtis), a single mother and uptight psychiatrist, and her rebellious teenage daughter, Anna (Lohan). Constantly at odds with each other due to their differing perspectives on life, they find themselves magically swapping bodies after a mysterious fortune cookie incident at a Chinese restaurant. As Tess wakes up in Anna’s body and vice versa,...

This Friday just got a little bit freakier for millennial Disney fans: “Freaky Friday 2” has a director attached, which means, yes, it’s happening. “Late Night” director Nisha Ganatra (“Welcome to Chippendales”) is ready to get to work behind the camera, The Hollywood Reporter wrote, with Og stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan in talks to return in front.
The “Freaky Friday” sequel has been one the Hollywood’s worst-kept secrets, but still, nothing is official until it is.
“Freaky Friday 2” is very much on trend. The film will join a whole slew of sequels set 20-plus years after their initial (respective) releases. There was already the new (musical) “Mean Girls,” and sequels to “John Tucker Must Die” and “The Princess Diaries” are in the works. (It’d be the third “Princess Diaries” film.)

Disney’s 2003 version of Freaky Friday almost looked very different.
Annette Bening and Michelle Trachtenberg were first cast as mother and daughter in the remake of the 1977 film that saw Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster switching bodies on Friday the 13th. But Trachtenberg couldn’t get out of her commitment to shoot Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Bening dropped out shortly before production began.
Producer Andrew Gunn recalls that Nina Jacobson, then president of Buena Vista Motion Pictures Group, happened to see Jamie Lee Curtis in True Lies on TV and suggested her for the updated role of the therapist mom Tess, who gets trapped in the body of her teenage daughter Anna, an aspiring musician, after they each open a magical fortune cookie.
And while Lindsay Lohan’s audition for the part of Anna hadn’t been stellar, she had already proved herself in Disney’s 1998 remake of The Parent Trap.

The Brady organization against gun violence is calling on Hollywood writers, directors and producers to examine onscreen gun violence and depictions of gun safety, asking the creative community to sign a pledge that’s already garnered more than 200 signatures of such names as Judd Apatow, Shonda Rhimes, Damon Lindelof and Jimmy Kimmel and the writers of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The pledge, while noting that the “responsibility lies with lax gun laws supported by those politicians more afraid of losing power than saving lives,” acknowledges that “America’s storytellers” have the power to “effect change.”
“Cultural attitudes toward smoking, drunk driving, seatbelts and marriage equality have all evolved due in large part to movies’ and TV’s influence. It’s time to take on gun safety,” the Brady pledge states, and goes on to ask writers, directors and producers to, whenever possible, to:

Hollywood has come together to make a change over the portrayal of gun violence onscreen.
Judd Apatow, Mark Ruffalo, Jimmy Kimmel, Damon Lindelof, Adam McKay, Julianne Moore, Shonda Rhimes, Eli Roth, Mark Ruffalo, Amy Schumer, and John Glickman are among the first round of signatures for a petition calling for the film and TV industry to re-examine its influence on national gun violence in the U.S.
The petition, titled “Open Letter to Our Colleagues in the Creative Community,” calls for studios to model responsible gun safety practices in productions and curb portrayals of guns in scenes involving children. The effort, led by activists Christy Callahan, the co-chair of the Brady United Against Gun Violence organization’s Regional Leadership Council, and Robert Bowers Disney, comes after the Uvalde elementary school mass shooting on May 24.
“Considering there have been over 250 other mass shootings so far this year, it’s an almost incomprehensible tragedy.

The SXSW Film Festival is returning to its in-person roots with a vengeance next month. After testing actresses this week, Warner Bros. And DC Films looks to have found their Batgirl. Sources tell Deadline Leslie Grace has been tapped to play Barbara Gordon in the studios’ Batgirl. The studio was already super high with the rising star following her breakout role in In the Heights, and sources say her audition sealed the deal as the choice. The studio had no comment.
The film will bow on HBO Max, marking one of the first major DC properties to debut exclusively on the streamer. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will direct the pic from a script by Christina Hodson. Kristin Burr is producing.
While plot details are under wraps, it is known that Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Commissioner Gordon, will be the character behind the cape in this version. Gordon is the most established version of the Batgirl character and was first introduced in 1961 as Betty Kane.

“Bad Boys for Life” filmmaking duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are set to direct “Batgirl” for HBO Max, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
“Birds of Prey” screenwriter Christina Hodson, who wrote “The Flash” for DC, will write the “Batgirl” script.
Batgirl made her debut in the Batman mythos 50 years ago as Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City Police Commissioner Jim Gordon. Since then she has become one of the most popular superheroines in the world. When Barbara Gordon was paralyzed by a gunshot from the Joker in the classic graphic novel “The Killing Joke,” other crimefighters, like The Huntress and Orphan, took up the Batgirl name while Barbara became Oracle, a tech-savvy aide to Batman. Barbara later returned to the Batgirl role, while her assault in “The Killing Joke” was retconned.

In the latest trailer for “Cruella” we see how Emma Stone’s Disney villain got her “killer instinct,” one nurtured by a cutthroat fashion designer played by Emma Thompson.
Thompson is giving us some serious Miranda Priestly vibes as the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is described as “devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute.” She spots Cruella’s flair for fashion as part of the punk rock revolution in London in the 1970s and gives her a job, only for that relationship to set off Cruella’s wicked side — including her first big crime of swiping the Baroness’ dogs.
“Let me give you some advice. You can’t care about anyone else. Everyone else is an obstacle. You care what an obstacle wants, you’re dead,” Thompson says in the trailer. “If I’d cared about anyone or thing, I might have died. You have the talent. Whether you...

True, Cruella‘s traffic is a far cry from Disney’s Lion King trailer which posted an awesome first day record of 224M global views after dropping on Thanksgiving Day 2018.
