Game of Thrones alum Aidan Gillen has been tapped to play one of the leads in The O’Neill, an Irish Gaelic epic based on the legendary Hugh O’Neill, the former Earl best known for leading the resistance during the Nine Years’ War. Vikings director Stephen Saint Leger is set to helm the pilot and several future episodes should the series be picked up. The original concept for the show was thought up by Revolution Media’s Jack Armstrong, who will present the series on Tuesday at Conecta Fiction’s Pitch Copro Series, an international pitching session. Tim Loane (Versailles) will serve as showrunner. Intended as four eight-hour seasons, The O’Neill revolves around Ireland’s powerful O’Neill dynasty, focusing on the story of Hugh O’Neill, who, in 1560, is taken as a 9-year-old from his native Ireland and groomed as an English Lord at the English Court.

Jonny Quest: The Complete Original Series
Blu ray
Warner Archive
1964/ 1.33:1 / Each Episode 25 min.
Starring Tim Matheson, Don Messick
Music by Hoyt Curtin
Directed by William Hanna, Joe Barbera
Though the heartland was nearing a showdown between the Masters of War and the Age of Aquarius, things were relatively status quo in 1964, Beatles or no Beatles. Dad could still be found daydreaming over the garish macho fantasies of Men’s Action magazine while Junior was in the rec room hypnotized by Jonny Quest – a weekly cartoon show flaunting the same retro thrills found in the old man’s rags but aimed at the sandbox set.
Jonny lasted just one season, from September of 1964 to March of ‘65, but the combination of pulp fiction mayhem with junior league heroics would transfix a generation.
Jonny’s producers, William Hanna and Joesph Barbera, made their move to the small screen in 1957 when MGM shuttered...

On September 18, 1964, a serious animated adventure series, demonstrating cartoons didn’t have to always be comical such as The Flintstones (still airing then on ABC). Instead, Jonny Quest captured the sense of exploration Americans were longing for thanks to the Mercury astronauts and the rising tide of espionage films, headed by James Bond. However, Jonny was a young boy, making him an ideal feature for the Friday at 7:30 p.m. slot.
While the 26 episodes are all that were produced, the show’s overall quality proved influential to subsequent generations of animators, comic book storytellers, and audiences. It has pretty much remained in syndication for the last forty years. Jonny Quest remained the benchmark for dramatic animated fare for decades, enjoying brief runs as a comic book (notably Comico’s 1980s run).

Fantômas – Three Film Collection
Blu ray
Kino Lorber
1964, 1965, 1967 / 2.35 : 1 / 322 Min.

He (they?) were the protagonists of a colorful trio of swinging sixties satires directed by André Hunebelle between 1964 and 1967 – each chapter was the CinemaScope equivalent of a chocolate sorbet and loaded with the same self-amused ironies of the French New Wave and the Batman TV show.

Following the showing of Empire of the Sharks at Horror-on-Sea I got a chance to talk with actor Jack Armstrong about how he got involved in the film, what attracted him to the role and what it was like working on the set of the film.

We have come out from the screening for Empire of the Sharks, how do you think it went?
It went really well, it was good to see it on the big screen for the first time. I have seen it once or twice before, but to see it with the directors and the people who made it so special is the right way to see it I would say.
How did you get involved in the film originally?

What to do? Can we survive? The world is under attack from vicious, unstoppable alien forces, it must be…Summertime at the multiplex! This looks like a job for…Tom Cruise! Yes, Tom Cruise, the all-American boy (for you budding archeologists, that’s a reference to the once-popular radio adventure series, Jack Armstrong, who boasted that misnomer. And for a fella’ past fifty, Cruise still has a boyish grin!). But this isn’t the high-flying Maverick from Top Gun or even the more down-to-Earth Jack Reacher. Why this character, John Cage, has never seen combat! But somehow he’s been gifted with an edge courtesy of those invading aliens and only one person can help him use that advantage: a hard-nosed special forces hero played by Emily Blunt! The Brit beauty from The Devil Wears Prada? You wouldn’t expect a by-the-numbers, blast the otherworldly beasties, actioner from gifted director...

John Hart, the man who replaced Clayton Moore as TV's wild west hero The Lone Ranger, has died, aged 91.
Hart battled dementia in his latter years and passed away at his home in Rosarito Beach, Mexico on Sunday, according to the Los Angeles Times.
A California native, Hart launched his Hollywood career in Cecil B. DeMille’s 1938 film The Buccaneer.
After serving in the U.S. Army, he landed the title role in the 1947 TV series Jack Armstrong: The All-American Boy and took over from Moore as The Lone Ranger for 52 episodes of the popular family show.
He was the perfect choice for the role - because he worked as a cowboy as a teenager, and had joined the cast of the show to work with a nervous Silver, the Lone Ranger's horse.
Hart gave up the role of The Lone Ranger when Moore returned to the show, but he played the masked hero again in a 1981 episode of The Greatest American Hero and in a 1982 episode of Happy Days.
He also starred in Hawkeye and the Last of the Mohicans, alongside horror movie icon Lon Chaney Jr....
