With the potential third season of Big Little Lies still up in the air, Shailene Woodley is reflecting on how it all started.

The 2x Golden Globe nominee recently gave an update on Season 3 as she recalled how “my sister,” co-star Laura Dern, convinced her to sign on to the HBO series adaptation of Liane Moriarty‘s book, which ran for two seasons from 2017 to 2019.

“I got a call, I’ll never forget it. It was November or October of 2015. Presumed Innocent became an instant smash when it debuted on Apple TV+ over the summer.

So it comes as no surprise that what was once a limited series has now been renewed for a second season.

Of course, situations like this usually mean that the showrunners didn’t have a roadmap for future episodes. And in this case, they’ve decided to take a hard left turn into parts unknown.

According to a new report from Deadline, Presumed Innocent Season 2 will ditch the source material that helped to make the first version such a success.

Those episodes were based on the novel of the same name by Scott Turow.

Season 2, however, will adapt a different legal thriller, Dissection of a Murder by Jo Murray.

Unfortunately, this one doesn’t come with a built-in audience, like Turow’s wildly popular 1987 book.

Exclusive: Like other successful limited series that have became ongoing ones following their breakout success, Apple TV+‘s legal thriller Presumed Innocent did not have a blueprint for a second season.

Season 1 was based on Scott Turow’s bestselling novel of the same name but, as Deadline pointed out at the time of the renewal, there was no obvious path to continue the series from Turow’s body of work. Season 2 of the show, executive produced by David E. Kelley, J.J. Abrams and Season 1 star Jake Gyllenhaal and co-exec produced by Turow, is taking a completely different path with a female lead, Leila Reynolds, succeeding Gyllenhaal’s Rusty Sabich.

Apple TV+’s forthcoming Margo’s Got Money Troubles is adding to its already star-studded cast.

Nick Offerman has joined the series from A24 and showrunner David E. Kelley. The Parks and Recreation favorite will star opposite Elle Fanning, Nicole Kidman and Michelle Pfeiffer in the drama.

Based on the best-selling novel by Rufi Thorpe, Margo’s Got Money Troubles follows the title character (played by Fanning), who is “the daughter of a Hooters waitress and former pro wrestler,” per the show’s logline. “After having an affair with her junior college English professor, she gets pregnant and turns to OnlyFans to make ends meet. After reuniting with her estranged father, who imparts advice he learned in the wrestling ring, Margo becomes a runaway success on OnlyFans.”

Offerman will play Jinx, Margo’s dad; Pfeiffer plays her mother.

Offerman won an Emmy for his guest role in seasone one of HBO’s The Last of Us.

Nick Offerman is the latest addition to the upcoming Apple TV+ series “Margo’s Got Money Troubles,” Variety has learned.

Offerman will star in the series alongside previously announced cast members Elle Fanning, Nicole Kidman, and Michelle Pfeiffer. The eight-episode show was ordered to series at Apple back in February after a multi-platform bidding war. It is based on the Rufi Thorpe novel of the same name, which was published in June.

Per the description of the novel’s plot, it focuses on Margo Millet (Fanning), the daughter of a Hooters waitress (Pfeiffer) and an ex-pro wrestler (Offerman). Now an unemployed single mother in her early 20s, Margo is struggling to make ends meet, leading her to launch an OnlyFans account. When her father reenters her life, she starts incorporating his lessons from the pro wrestling world into her OnlyFans work, leading to unexpected success.

The Ted Humphrey-created, and David E. Kelley executive-produced series “The Lincoln Lawyer” finally returns for season 3. Adapted from Michael Connelly’s series of books about the titular Lincoln Lawyer, Mickey Haller, the show is a ratings hit on Netflix precisely because it is both an old-school throwback to network TV legal dramas, with an added sheen afforded to Netflix shows. It almost emulates the “sunny blue-skies era” of the USA Network, which made “Suits” get a gigantic second wind when it dropped on Netflix.

Most importantly after the success of “Bosch” on Prime Video and its spinoff on the sister channel Freevee, Netflix wanted to hop on the Connelly bandwagon. While “The Lincoln Lawyer” isn’t as good as “Bosch,” it has a consistency in terms of story and vibe and perfectly dependable filmmaking that allows it to be a streamable experience, even as the show fumbled majorly in the second season.

Ryan Murphy can’t stop winning this year. “American Horror Stories” hit No. 1 on Hulu’s Top 15 Today the week of its debut, making it the eighth Murphy show to hit dominate viewership in 2024.

Michelle Pfeiffer has joined the cast of Apple TV+’s upcoming drama series, “Margo’s Got Money Troubles.” The Golden Globe- and BAFTA-winning actress will also executive produce the series.

Pfeiffer comes into showrunner David E. Kelley’s television adaption of Rufi Thorpe’s acclaimed novel of the same name as Shyanne, the mother of Elle Fanning’s character Margo. Nicole Kidman also stars, and will EP alongside Fanning and Thorpe.

According to Thorpe’s website, the book is summarized as follows: “Margo Millet’s got money troubles. As the child of a Hooters waitress and ex-pro wrestler, she’s always known she’d have to make it on her own. So she enrolls at her local junior college, even though she can’t imagine how she’ll ever make a living.”

Michelle Pfeiffer will star opposite Elle Fanning and Nicole Kidman in the series, which is based on the best-selling novel of the same title by Rufi Thorpe.
