Director: Morgan Neville | Stars: Fred Rogers, Margaret Whitmer, Tom Junod, Joanne Rogers

Votes: 27,123 | Gross: $22.84M

10/10

Impossible to dislike. The perfect documentary. It's amazing they had so much footage to make a film as good as this one, and that speaks a lot to the editing and also Mr. Rogers himself.

2. Incredibles 2 (2018)

PG | 118 min | Animation, Action, Adventure

Votes: 331,493 | Gross: $608.58M

9/10

Best super hero film in years, and this is coming from someone who doesn't care much for the original. Pixar exceeds expectations yet again.

9/10

Directors: John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein | Stars: Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams, Kyle Chandler, Sharon Horgan

Votes: 255,827 | Gross: $69.18M

9/10

Best, most well-written comedy since The Hangover. In a time where most comedies are lazy cash-grabs, rehashed by the same group of people, this was a breath of fresh air.

5. Deadpool 2 (2018)

R | 119 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

66 Metascore

Foul-mouthed mutant mercenary Wade Wilson (a.k.a. Deadpool) assembles a team of fellow mutant rogues to protect a young boy with abilities from the brutal, time-traveling cyborg Cable.

Director: David Leitch | Stars: Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, Julian Dennison

Votes: 646,226 | Gross: $324.59M

9/10

As someone who didn't like the original, I was pleasantly surprised. It started and ended badly in my opinion, but a bulk of the middle was outstanding. Better humor, action, and a lot of unique ideas never seen in the genre. Everything I wanted in the first film and more.

6. Unsane (2018)

R | 98 min | Drama, Horror, Mystery

63 Metascore

A young woman is involuntarily committed to a mental institution, where she is confronted by her greatest fear - but is it real or a product of her delusion?

Director: Steven Soderbergh | Stars: Claire Foy, Joshua Leonard, Jay Pharoah, Juno Temple

Votes: 49,946 | Gross: $7.73M

8/10

A fantastic experiment in minimalism. The story here, and its' dialogue, are quite fascinating. Like Side Effects, this is a hitchcockian thriller with a surprising amount of depth. I hadn't realized that it was mostly filmed on an iPhone until hours after I saw it, and it never detracted from the experience. If anything, it added to the overall ambiance of being trapped. I absolutely loved this one, and for all the aspiring filmmakers, it gives them hope that their ambitions of making a great film on the cheap can become reality.

7. Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018)

PG-13 | 147 min | Action, Adventure, Thriller

87 Metascore

Ethan Hunt and his IMF team, along with some familiar allies, race against time after a mission gone wrong.

Director: Christopher McQuarrie | Stars: Tom Cruise, Henry Cavill, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg

Votes: 378,328 | Gross: $220.16M

8/10

More twists and turns than a pretzel. I think I liked Rogue Nation a tiny bit more, as it had more of a noir feel, but this is probably the second best MI film to date. The action is grandiose and extremely well-directed. Most of the jokes landed. This is the definition of summer blockbuster, see it.

8. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

PG-13 | 149 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

68 Metascore

The Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

Directors: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo | Stars: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans

Votes: 1,204,183 | Gross: $678.82M

8/10

An awesome popcorn flick. It doesn't reinvent the wheel but it's constant action, an equivalent to a really great episode before a season finale.

9. A Quiet Place (2018)

PG-13 | 90 min | Drama, Horror, Sci-Fi

82 Metascore

A family struggles for survival in a world where most humans have been killed by blind but noise-sensitive creatures. They are forced to communicate in sign language to keep the creatures at bay.

Director: John Krasinski | Stars: Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe

Votes: 583,953 | Gross: $188.02M

8/10

I'd suggest you see this one in the comfort of your own home. Seeing it in theaters is quite the risk, since most of the film has absolutely no sound. You'll hear every cough, sneeze, popcorn munching, and whisper. With that said, this is a genre film done right. Imagine the intensity felt in the climax of a slasher, where the protagonist is hiding from the killer and has to make no sound. Now imagine that being the entire film. That, in a nutshell, is A Quiet Place. The writing is serviceable, and it's likely that you'll be questioning some of the film's logic as the credits roll, but it's still well-directed and the run time absolutely flew by.

10. Christopher Robin (2018)

PG | 104 min | Adventure, Comedy, Drama

60 Metascore

A working-class family man, Christopher Robin, encounters his childhood friend Winnie-the-Pooh, who helps him to rediscover the joys of life.

Director: Marc Forster | Stars: Ewan McGregor, Hayley Atwell, Bronte Carmichael, Mark Gatiss

Votes: 84,873 | Gross: $99.22M

8/10

11. Paddington 2 (2017)

PG | 103 min | Adventure, Comedy, Family

88 Metascore

Paddington, now happily settled with the Brown family and a popular member of the local community, picks up a series of odd jobs to buy the perfect present for his Aunt Lucy's 100th birthday, only for the gift to be stolen.

Director: Paul King | Stars: Ben Whishaw, Hugh Grant, Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins

Votes: 94,069 | Gross: $40.44M

8/10

The first one is an absolutely perfect family film that was my second favorite movie of its respective year. It's a movie I can watch any day of the week, and unfortunately that feeling doesn't extend to Paddington 2. I was quite disappointed with this sequel. I felt the story wasn't as tight, with the comedic moments feeling too scripted. The antagonist paled in comparison to Nicole Kidman, and things were ever really dire for Paddington as it were in the first film. Finally, I thought that Sally Hawkins was criminally underused. She added a lot to the charm of the original, and she barely had any dialogue in this. While I don't believe it's anywhere as great as the original, which like I said, is a perfect film in every way, it's still a great film with a heartwarming story, beautiful direction, and a lot of heart put into it. It's just disappointing to see the second one get the praise the first one should have gotten while being not as good. It makes me think the first was a tad underrated. See them both.

12. Annihilation (I) (2018)

R | 115 min | Adventure, Drama, Horror

79 Metascore

A biologist signs up for a dangerous, secret expedition into a mysterious zone where the laws of nature don't apply.

Director: Alex Garland | Stars: Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson, Benedict Wong

Votes: 361,833 | Gross: $32.73M

8/10

While not as finely tuned as Ex Machina, it's more layered and interesting. It's a film that demands discussion, not because you won't understand it, but because everyone will interpret things differently. There is absolutely no "correct" way to take in this fascinating story. Intelligent science fiction stories are a dime a dozen these days. It reminds me of Solaris quite a bit in its tone. Story wise, it's a little bit Arrival meets Under the Skin. While I don't think it's as good as either of those films, there's something admirable for a story that demands discussion. The only flaw is that some of the logic behind the various expedition teams is a little bit shaky. I will be watching this again when it hits home video.

13. Three Identical Strangers (2018)

PG-13 | 96 min | Documentary, Biography, Drama

Votes: 39,831 | Gross: $12.32M

7/10

7/10

15. First Reformed (2017)

86 Metascore

A minister of a small congregation in upstate New York grapples with mounting despair brought on by tragedy, worldly concerns and a tormented past.

Director: Paul Schrader | Stars: Ethan Hawke, Amanda Seyfried, Cedric The Entertainer, Victoria Hill

Votes: 62,613 | Gross: $3.45M

7/10

I couldn't get passed the feeling of been there, done that (Taxi Driver). It's quite predictable. But I love the way it was shot and acted, and in terms of films with a political message, I actually felt it was effective.

16. Alpha (II) (2018)

PG-13 | 96 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

63 Metascore

In the prehistoric past, a young man struggles to return home after being separated from his tribe during a buffalo hunt. He finds a similarly lost wolf companion and starts a friendship that would change humanity.

Director: Albert Hughes | Stars: Kodi Smit-McPhee, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Marcin Kowalczyk, Jens Hultén

Votes: 66,578 | Gross: $35.85M

7/10

Very well made. It's predictable, but at the same time I knew what it was going in and it delivered.

17. Hereditary (2018)

R | 127 min | Drama, Horror, Mystery

87 Metascore

A grieving family is haunted by tragic and disturbing occurrences.

Director: Ari Aster | Stars: Toni Collette, Milly Shapiro, Gabriel Byrne, Alex Wolff

Votes: 378,538 | Gross: $44.07M

7/10

This film is beautifully visualized, composed, and acted. Much of the film is a build-up of the dread similarly felt in The Shining, thanks to a hauntingly visceral score. Going in, I was under the impression that this would be a totally new and fresh horror film, and with that I left a bit disappointed. One of the biggest flaws is the writing. Much of the first act was filled with exposition that didn't flow naturally, which unintentionally makes plot details predictable. Much of the film is based on events that happened on a whim, yet have profound impact on the rest of the film. This is a story we've experienced before, flaws included, and all of the build-up came to a whimper of an ending that failed to distinguish Hereditary from the pact. It's an extremely well-made horror film, from a director that tried to mix as many of his ideas in the pot (as directorial debuts often do), but as the credits rolled, I felt all of the ingredients, be it original or not, should have added to something less derivative.

18. Black Panther (2018)

PG-13 | 134 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

88 Metascore

T'Challa, heir to the hidden but advanced kingdom of Wakanda, must step forward to lead his people into a new future and must confront a challenger from his country's past.

Director: Ryan Coogler | Stars: Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira

Votes: 837,964 | Gross: $700.06M

8/10

Black Panther mostly accomplishes its lofty ambitions of a fun, action-packed superhero origin story that also carries deep themes and dramatic elements. There are a lot, and I mean a lot, of narrative similarities to current black issues and African American history. Its' parallels to real-world issue are unmistakable, but it's when those parallels are hidden in the narrative without seeming preachy or obvious, as they sometimes are, is when the storytelling is at its peak. Those story elements are there, but only if you're willing to look for them. In that regard, everyone can find something to love here.

There are three main action sequences, and while the first two are stellar, the finale was a big mess. The score was mostly a hit, with a diverse track that seems in-line with the younger generation's music. The CGI is mostly good, with moments where it felt unfinished or rushed. The story, especially the 3rd act, could've used some fine-tuning. Black Panther is a film that risks being different in a climate of either overly-comedic or overly-serious super hero films. It finds a nice balance of drama and action, supported by an outstanding cast that breathes life into these fictitious characters. While it doesn't succeed in everything it sets out to do, Black Panther still finds itself in the higher echelon of Marvel films.

19. BlacKkKlansman (2018)

R | 135 min | Biography, Comedy, Crime

83 Metascore

Ron Stallworth, an African American police officer from Colorado Springs, Colorado, successfully infiltrates the local Ku Klux Klan branch aided by a Jewish surrogate who eventually becomes its leader. Based on actual events.

Director: Spike Lee | Stars: John David Washington, Adam Driver, Laura Harrier, Topher Grace

Votes: 291,262 | Gross: $49.28M

7/10

To me, films are either there to teach you something or be an escape. At times, this film is both, but it's unfortunate that the director didn't hold back on his political views. And I absolutely love Spike Lee -- Do The Right Thing would make my top 10 films of all time. But this isn't that.

This film is wonderfully acted, and the score is one of the best of the year. I loved all of the references to blaxploitation films, and that era is charmingly captured. The story itself could have used some fine-tuning, as there are some pretty illogical moments that hurt the infiltration part of the story, which ends on a very anti-climactic note. You have moments of in-your-face remarks that are totally beneath this film. As a director, you have to make sure your film doesn't divide the audience and tell its own story from a neutral point-of-view.

BlackkKlansman could have been a masterpiece, but instead feels like its heart is not in the right place. It wants to tell its story but can't fight the urge to throw little inconsistent jabs. The end hits an emotional punch, but then it doesn't. There's a reason a film like Do The Right Thing holds up today and a film like this won't hold up later on. I wish Spike Lee gave this film a little more of his time, rather than pushing it out as soon as possible while its still relevant. Because it won't be for very long. Recommended, but disappointing.

20. Teen Titans GO! To the Movies (2018)

PG | 84 min | Animation, Action, Adventure

69 Metascore

A villain's maniacal plan for world domination sidetracks five teenage superheroes who dream of Hollywood stardom.

Directors: Aaron Horvath, Peter Rida Michail | Stars: Greg Cipes, Scott Menville, Khary Payton, Tara Strong

Votes: 21,707 | Gross: $29.79M

7/10

From what little I've seen of the show, I can't say I'm a big fan. But this film was just fun, even for an adult, and I imagine moreso for kids. There's something unique about watching a television cartoon on the big screen. It reminded me of The Simpsons Movie in that regard.

21. Uncle Drew (2018)

PG-13 | 103 min | Comedy, Drama, Sport

57 Metascore

An anti-ageist comedy about a man's dream to win the Rucker Classic street ball tournament in Harlem.

Director: Charles Stone III | Stars: Kyrie Irving, Lil Rel Howery, Shaquille O'Neal, Chris Webber

Votes: 15,743 | Gross: $42.47M

7/10

Fun basketball cheese. Reminds me of the early 2000s.

Director: Coralie Fargeat | Stars: Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz, Kevin Janssens, Vincent Colombe, Guillaume Bouchède

Votes: 48,320 | Gross: $0.10M

6/10

Stunningly beautiful film with a lackluster story.

A small group of former classmates organize an elaborate, annual game of tag that requires some to travel all over the country.

Director: Greg Berlanti | Stars: Nick Robinson, Jennifer Garner, Josh Duhamel, Katherine Langford

Votes: 125,950 | Gross: $40.83M

6/10

It's alright. Extremely cheesy and feels like a decent Lifetime movie.

26. Mom and Dad (2017)

R | 86 min | Comedy, Horror, Thriller

59 Metascore

A teenage girl and her younger brother must survive a wild 24 hours during which a mass hysteria of unknown origin causes parents to turn violently on their own kids.

Director: Brian Taylor | Stars: Nicolas Cage, Selma Blair, Anne Winters, Zackary Arthur

Votes: 27,393

6/10

This reminded me of last year's Belko Experiment. It's a fun premise that's paper-thin and probably executed as well as it could have been. This is the quintessential bad Nicholas Cage performance. His acting is hilarious and everyone is on board with it, which makes it even better. The ending didn't really work for the type of movie, it felt like the budget ran out more than anything. I enjoyed the music. This is definitely one to check out once it hits streaming.

27. Blockers (2018)

R | 102 min | Comedy, Drama

69 Metascore

Three parents try to stop their daughters from losing their virginity on prom night.

Director: Kay Cannon | Stars: Leslie Mann, John Cena, Ike Barinholtz, Kathryn Newton

Votes: 86,009 | Gross: $60.31M

6/10

There were a couple of moments that made me chuckle, but overall the film was a repetitive mesh of recycled jokes you probably saw in the trailers. These characters are all one-note. The story itself is entertaining, as is the film. Nothing outstanding, but not what I would call a great comedy. The "diversity" in the film felt forced and unnatural, as if they had a quota to meet. That took me out of the experience, especially at the beginning. It's worth a watch for Cena (if you're a Cena fan), but other than that it's just okay.

28. The Spy Who Dumped Me (2018)

R | 117 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

52 Metascore

Best friends Audrey and Morgan unwittingly become entangled in an international conspiracy when one of them discovers that the boyfriend who dumped her was actually a spy.

Votes: 83,090 | Gross: $33.56M

6/10

R | 112 min | Comedy, Drama, Fantasy

78 Metascore

Director: Boots Riley | Stars: LaKeith Stanfield, Tessa Thompson, Jermaine Fowler, Omari Hardwick

Votes: 88,248 | Gross: $17.49M

4/10

Remember a time when films could actually tell a decent story, without constantly having to throw random crap at the screen for today's ADHD youth? Those times were good. Unpredictable beginnings with predictable outcomes is the best way I can describe this film. From its inspirations to its messages, it's all black and white.

30. You Were Never Really Here (2017)

R | 89 min | Crime, Drama, Thriller

84 Metascore

A traumatized veteran unafraid of violence tracks down missing girls for a living. When a job spins out of control, Joe's nightmares overtake him as a conspiracy is uncovered leading to what could be his death trip or his awakening.

Director: Lynne Ramsay | Stars: Joaquin Phoenix, Judith Roberts, Ekaterina Samsonov, John Doman

Votes: 127,715 | Gross: $2.53M

5/10

A big letdown. Lets start out with the good: the film is masterfully acted by Phoenix alone. He carries the film and it's clear that he took the material seriously. The Greenwood score, isolated, is also fantastic.

Now with the bad. This film comes off as a cheap knockoff of Taxi Driver and Drive. This is the first Greenwood score that made me feel absolutely nothing, because attached to this film it elicited no emotions. The direction, and at times editing, are absolutely atrocious. The acting by everyone other than Phoenix, including the child star, is mediocre. The film is barely 90 minutes and it could have easily been 50 and retained the same ambiance the director was going for, without it feeling indulgent. A huge, resounding 'meh'.

31. Thoroughbreds (2017)

R | 92 min | Comedy, Crime, Drama

75 Metascore

Two upper-class teenage girls in suburban Connecticut rekindle their unlikely friendship after years of growing apart. Together, they hatch a plan to solve both of their problems-no matter what the cost.

Director: Cory Finley | Stars: Olivia Cooke, Anya Taylor-Joy, Anton Yelchin, Paul Sparks

Votes: 46,436 | Gross: $2.83M

5/10

A film we've seen 100 times before. It literally adds nothing, and thus it's just forgettable.

32. Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)

PG-13 | 135 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

62 Metascore

During an adventure in the criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his future co-pilot Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian years before joining the Rebel Alliance.

Director: Ron Howard | Stars: Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover

Votes: 379,376 | Gross: $213.77M

5/10

This is glorified fan fiction. They brought back too many aspects from past films and tried to explain them, so much that this film can't stand up on its own and it just felt like some writers wanted to explain things rather than tell a story. The acting is atrocious at times, due to the poor direction. The editing was rushed. Just a rousing "meh" from me, and having it release so soon after the vastly superior The Last Jedi (yes, I liked it) was a stupid decision.

33. Rampage (2018)

PG-13 | 107 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

4/10

54 Metascore

America's third political party, the New Founding Fathers of America, comes to power and conducts an experiment: no laws for 12 hours on Staten Island. No one has to stay on the island, but $5,000 is given to anyone who does.

Director: Gerard McMurray | Stars: Y'lan Noel, Lex Scott Davis, Joivan Wade, Steve Harris

Votes: 71,074 | Gross: $69.49M

3/10

If you're looking for political viewpoints from the writers that brought you the character Skeletor, and 20 minutes of seizure-inducing flashes, this is the perfect film for you.

35. Breaking In (2018)

PG-13 | 88 min | Action, Thriller

42 Metascore

A woman fights to protect her family during a home invasion.

Director: James McTeigue | Stars: Gabrielle Union, Billy Burke, Richard Cabral, Ajiona Alexus
