Robyn McCall will continue righting wrongs for another season.
CBS has ordered a fifth season of The Equalizer, its drama series starring Queen Latifah (who also executive produces) as McCall, a former CIA operative turned freelance problem solver for people who have nowhere else to turn. The show is a reimagining of the 1985-89 series of the same name and not connected to the Denzel Washington-led film franchise that’s also inspired by the original series.
With the renewal, The Equalizer will pass the original series in the number of seasons it has aired (though not yet in episode count — the 1980s series ran for 88 episodes, and the current show will end this season with 56).
With the pickup of The Equalizer, CBS has only one scripted series — NCIS: Hawai’i — awaiting word on its future. The network plans to announce its 2023-24 schedule on May 2.

Dan Rather is returning to CBS News.
Nearly 20 years after stepping down as the anchor of the CBS Evening News, and 18 years after he last appeared on the network, the anchor will return to a CBS program. This time, he will be the subject of an interview on CBS Sunday Morning.
Per a release from CBS, “Lee Cowan talks with former CBS News anchor Dan Rather about his work at CBS and his life in news.”
A source confirms that it will be Rather’s first appearance on a CBS News program since he formally left the network under tumultuous circumstances nearly two decades ago.
Rather said that he was the scapegoat in a scandal over a 2004 report for 60 Minutes II on then-President George W. Bush’s military record, and the anchor subsequently sued the network for breach of contract. The 60 Minutes spin-off was canceled less than a year later.

Since 1963, the British sci-fi series Doctor Who has captivated fans across the world. There have been 39 seasons (and counting!), but that’s where things get a bit wibbly wobbly, timey wimey, to borrow a phrase from The Doctor. The show follows the Doctor, a time lord who travels across space and time in the Tardis (Time and Relative Dimension in Space), which looks like a police box and is bigger on the inside, with a companion (or several). When the Doctor is fatally wounded, he or she regenerates, changing the physical form and allowing for new leads over the years. Doctor Who returns for its 14th season since the show was revived in 2005 on May 10, and not only will it be the first full season with Ncuti Gatwa—who has already won us over with one full Christmas special following a surprise appearance in the last of ...

In fact, the actor, who plays ranch hand Ryan on the Paramount Network series, is hyping up what he promises to be the best series finale in the history of television. “The fans are going to get the [best] conclusion that could possibly be written,” Bohen told Entertainment Tonight at the show’s Stagecoach pop-up. “Everything will land in a way that is perfectly set. A lot of shows just kind of finish… and they don’t satisfy you. This will be completed in a way that it will make sense.” He added: “I don’t know that any show has finished this strongly ever. We’re expecting to have the best series finale in history. Overconfident maybe, but I think that’s what it’s going to be. We thank everyone for their patience…...

[Editor’s note: The following contains some spoilers for “Dead Boy Detectives.”]
Esther is exhausted (immortality can do that to a gal). When she made a deal to live forever, she forgot to factor in youth and beauty and doomed herself to centuries of feeding children to a giant snake for the world’s most potent (if immoral) beauty treatment. And as played by Jenn Lyon in Netflix’s “Dead Boy Detectives,” she’s one of the most delectable villains to hit the TV screen since “Melrose Place.”
“She just wants to get these kids eaten already! And I really like that about her,” Lyon told IndieWire. Lyon continues her scene-stealing streak after “Claws” with Esther, described in the audition breakdown as a “burnt-out ’80s Stevie Nicks vibe” who becomes, in Lyon’s hands, the woman who always stays till last call at the dive bar.

David Cross and Bob Odenkirk made headlines in 2022 when they announced plans to reunite for the docu-style Paramount+ comedy “Guru Nation,” in which the “Mr. Show” masterminds were cast as rival cult gurus manipulating the minds of their deluded followers. On a recent podcast appearance, Cross said he believed that their Paramount+ series, which was in early development at Paramount Television Studios, was scrapped because the “marketing and analytics department” rejected it.
Cross and Odenkirk wrote and developed the show, which would have been an eight-episode limited series. He said the show’s pitch ignited a bidding war between four different networks.

Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Connell (Paul Mescal) forever. Normal People premiered on April 26, 2020, right as the world plunged into a global pandemic. For many, Marianne and Connell’s journey in the Hulu series was an escape from the worries of our then-reality. Now, Edgar-Jones is looking back on the show that changed her life. “It is beyond crazy to me that Normal People premiered 4 years ago today,” she wrote on her Instagram Story. “This show gifted me so much, primarily my best friends in the whole world. I hope Connell’s back in Dublin now and Marianne has grown out the micro fringe. Love you forever Np.” Her mention of hoping “Connell’s back in Dublin” will surely delight Normal People fans. Viewers were left devastated by the finale when Connell left for a writing program in New York, while Marianne stayed behind in Dublin. Their relationship was left open-ended,...

On the surface, you probably won’t find too many similarities between “Bob’s Burgers” and “Metalocalypse.” One is a fairly wholesome animated workplace comedy about a long-suffering restaurateur and his family struggling to make ends meet while wacky hijinks ensue. The other is an animated black comedy about a death metal band so insanely popular, stupid, and violent that they might literally bring about the end of the world as we know it.
The commonality between them? A quarter-century ago, the co-creators of both shows worked together to create “Home Movies,” a cult classic adult animated sitcom about a precocious 8-year-old boy and his friends trying to navigate the perils of childhood while pursuing their passion for filmmaking. While the show never managed to attain the same mainstream popularity of “Bob’s Burgers” or receive multiple revivals like Metalocalypse, it’s still remembered fondly as a cult classic, even as it...

It’s become the question du jour for just about anyone with ties to SNL: Who will replace Lorne Michaels when he leaves?
While a growing number of SNL alums are denying the premise, Maya Rudolph won’t even consider the hypothetical. “I can’t do it,” she insists.
Michaels first turned heads back in 2021 when told CBS Mornings that the show’s 50th anniversary would “be a really good time to leave.” He’s since said that he hasn’t made up his mind either way.
Appearing on the red carpet at the Time100 Gala on Thursday, Rudolph was asked by Et who she’d want to replace Michaels. “I can’t think about those things,” she said. “You know how there’s things you can’t think about? The Daily Show has been steeped in a competitive game of musical chairs since Trevor Noah’s departure, but at least one recurring face on the program isn’t losing sleep over who will get the gig.
Comedian Lewis Black has served as a contributor to The Daily Show since the franchise first began in 1996, working with each of the show’s hosts over the years. So only it makes sense that he’d be asked to weigh in on who might best fill the seat next.
But in a recent interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, he said he didn’t understand what the ongoing fuss was about.
“This is not a holy seat. This isn’t the Vatican,” Black told the paper. “The show is about the satire. It’s about the writers.”
The Daily Show is in the midst of a ratings resurgence since Jon Stewart returned to host Monday episodes in February.

“Judge Judy” has extended her reign in daytime as CBS Media Ventures has renewed its package of vintage “Judge Judy” episodes and the first-run court show “Hot Bench.”
Both daytime strips have been renewed through the end of the 2025-26 season on TV stations covering 95% of U.S. TV households. “Judge Judy” has been a daytime syndication stalwart since 1996 and that hasn’t changed even after she stopped producing new episodes of the series in 2021, after the show logged its 25th year. “Judge Judy” reruns at present average about 6 million viewers a week and the show still commands top daytime time slots around the country.
