The second part of Fritz Lang and Thea von Harbou’s adaptation of the epic poem, Kriemhild’s Revenge picks up directly where the first part, Siegfried, left off. The legendary hero is dead, and his wife – though it was partly her stupidity that led to it – is seriously pissed off. She blames royal advisor Hagen Tronje (Hans Adalbert Sclettow), but her brother King Gunther (Theodor Loos) won’t let her kill him – to do so would be to break a bond of honour. Engaging directly in violence, as a woman, is apparently not something she can conceive of, but she does have other options. She is still young and beautiful, and with access to Siegfried’s famous hoard of treasure, it shouldn’t be too difficult to find a new husband.
Kriemhild has a very particular husband in mind: one of history’s most famous conquerors, Attila the Hun.

It’s become the question du jour for just about anyone with ties to SNL: Who will replace Lorne Michaels when he leaves?
While a growing number of SNL alums are denying the premise, Maya Rudolph won’t even consider the hypothetical. “I can’t do it,” she insists.
Michaels first turned heads back in 2021 when told CBS Mornings that the show’s 50th anniversary would “be a really good time to leave.” He’s since said that he hasn’t made up his mind either way.
Appearing on the red carpet at the Time100 Gala on Thursday, Rudolph was asked by Et who she’d want to replace Michaels. “I can’t think about those things,” she said. “You know how there’s things you can’t think about? I can’t do it. I can’t bring my brain to think about things like that.” She went...

"Star Wars" has always been a fairy tale at its core. The phrase "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" conjures visions of mythic adventures and imaginative settings as much as "Once upon a time" does. Yet, no entries in the franchise have held truer to this ethos than, arguably, the infamous live-action Ewok movies (and if you're surprised to hear me say that, then you clearly haven't looked at my author page before).
Now relegated to the non-canon sectors of the "Star Wars" universe, 1984's "Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure" (originally released as "The Ewok Adventure") was a made-for-tv movie following the cuddly murder teddy bears of the forest moon of Endor as they set out to reunite two young humans with their parents. Despite its limited budget, "An Ewok Adventure" is often just as visually accomplished as other theatrical '80s fantasy features thanks...

In a delayed but delightful arrival for the UK’s post-festive season release schedule, Alexander Payne’s The Holdovers emerges as this January’s perfect antidote for the winter blues. Offering a genial, gentle, and redemptive story about personal growth, friendship and sacrifice, Payne’s film skilfully navigates the human condition with the Sideway director’s characteristic precision.
The Holdovers reunites Payne with Sideways star Paul Giamatti and features exquisite turns from Da’Vine Joy Randolph and newcomer Dominic Sessa.
New England, 1970. Paul Hunham (Giamatti), a taciturn Classics teacher has worked at the same exclusive prep school for decades. Disliked by almost everyone at the school for his crotchety exterior and unwillingness to bend the rules, Hunham finds himself on the receiving end of a barely disguised revenge punishment by the school’s long-suffering principle. He is saddled with the task of babysitting a handful of students during the Christmas period,...

This episode of the Horror TV Shows We Miss video series was Written and Narrated by Niki Minter, Edited by Lance Vlcek, Produced by John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Horror for Christmas? Yes, I’m here to holly your jolly, deck your halls, and sacrifice your children to Krampus. What a merry holiday season indeed! Since our October vid focused on Halloween Specials, I figured the Spooky Christmas crossovers deserved some attention as well.
As a kid, my family did have Christmas watching traditions like most. We did Scrooged, A Christmas Story, Frosty, Charlie Brown, Garfield, Home Alone, Gremlins (Ahhhh it’s controversial), Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands…and my mom may have snuck in Black Christmas. She was and is a fan of Holiday-based Horror. Her favorite being My Bloody Valentine. All of this is totally normal. So, as you can probably guess, the tradition has continued.

It’s amazing to think about now, but once upon a time, there was apparently a limited amount of television programs and, consequently, a lot of extra time, especially in December, that TV programmers needed to fill. There were, of course, the annual broadcasts of Frosty and Rudolph and Charlie Brown and the Grinch, plus John Denver and the Muppets (a particular favorite in my family) but those only filled a few hours of the entire long season.

As 2023 rolls out, let us bring you some bonus cheer with a feature that’s close to our hearts: our visit to the Portland headquarters of stop-motion animation legends Laika. We got up close and personal with the puppets, sat down for a lengthy chat with studio boss Travis Knight, and even got an extended set visit for Laika’s next big-screen epic, Wildwood. That won’t be out until 2025 (stop-motion takes time), so in the meantime, please enjoy the next best thing…

Saturday Night Live‘s final episode of 2023 featured several alums of the sketch comedy show.
Not only did Kate McKinnon, who departed the show last year, return to host, but fellow alums Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph also made a special appearance during her monologue.
As McKinnon took to the Studio 8H stage, she started by saying it was weird to come back to her “old job” and do the monologue: “I don’t really like to talk in my own voice. That’s kind of why I got into this racket in the first place.”
The comedian proceeded to quip that she left SNL because “my skin was reacting poorly to the prosthetics” from all the characters she played over 10 years.
“I’ve never been myself in a monologue before,” she said, adding that she usually plays “the role of freak next to hot person” during past monologues with other hosts.

Rudolph Isley, a founding member of the iconic trio the Isley Brothers, died Wednesday. He was 84.

When he made his first feature, Gal Young ‘Un, in 1979, director Victor Nuñez was a pioneer in an American independent film movement still in its early stages. Over the next several decades, Nuñez continued to work on personal projects on his home turf of northern Florida. He worked rewardingly with gifted actors like Ed Harris in A Flash of Green and launched Ashley Judd’s acting career with Ruby in Paradise in 1993. Peter Fonda earned his only Oscar nomination as an actor when he starred in Nuñez’s Ulee’s Gold in 1997.
But Nuñez has not directed a film in over a decade. He returns to the screen with Rachel Hendrix and helps to revitalize the acting career of Lori Singer, still best known for her starring role opposite Kevin Bacon in 1984’s Footloose. As Rian Johnson has quickly become Hollywood’s go-to mystery mind, the Knives Out and Glass Onion filmmaker is expanding from the “whodunit” to the “howcatchem” with Peacock’s Poker Face.
The 10-episode series stars Natasha Lyonne as Charlie, who has a special ability to determine when someone is lying and uses the skill to solve the strange crimes that come across her path. The show is a return to a mystery-of-the-week format — featuring a mostly new cast and wrapped-up story in each episode — and began with casual conversations between Johnson and Lyonne about how much they missed that era of TV.
“We’d been talking about it but then he actually put pen to paper, which I always think about as just about the most generous and loving act that we can do. It’s really like writing someone a song or something, like, ‘Oh shit, you’re all the way in.

Natasha Lyonne’s Charlie Cale knows when people are lying, senses there has been a murder and is determined to find out what happened in Poker Face.
Peacock’s 10-part mystery series from Rian Johnson has dropped its full trailer, providing a 2 minute-plus look at the highly anticipated project from the Knives Out director and Russian Doll star. Now, the trailer spends more time with “human lie detector” Charlie and provides glimpses at some of the A-list ensemble, a “rogue’s gallery of characters,” she will encounter along the way.
Billed as a mystery-of-the-week drama, the 10 hour-long episodes launch Jan. 26 with four episodes, followed by a weekly release on Thursdays.

"The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special" may not have shifted the status quo of the MCU, but it was just what superhero fans needed for the holiday season. The James Gunn-directed special presentation saw Drax (Dave Bautista) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) go on an Earth-bound journey to save Christmas — by way of kidnapping Kevin Bacon as a gift for Star-Lord, of course. A heartfelt tribute to finding and nurturing family in the unlikeliest of places, Gunn made sure to tie all the holiday shenanigans to what matters most. And he came up with the story in just a few hours, too.
Although it's not a complicated story by any means, the "Holiday Special" does a lot for the featured characters. Drax and Mantis get some much-deserved screen time, while their loving relationship with the rest of the team is more solidified than ever. Who would've thought seeing the...

Prior to 1989, actor Leslie Nielsen was still best known for playing heavies and villains. Even when he appeared in comedy classics like "Airplane!" in 1980 or "Police Squad!" in 1982, his comedic power was derived from his ability to stay stonefaced while absurdity explodes around him. 1989, however, saw the release of "The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!" a film adaptation of the TV show. In that film, Nielsen played the role of Lt. Frank Drebin broadly, doing a lot of mugging and pratfalls. "The Naked Gun" was an enormous hit the year it was released, and Nielsen went full-bore into slapstick roles and spoof movies after that.
During the 1990s, Nielsen appeared in a litany of gloriously silly flicks like "Spy Hard," "Wrongfully Accused," "Repossessed" (a classic), "Dracula: Dead and Loving It," two of the "Scary Movie" sequels, and many others. Not all of these films were good, but...

Peacock baking competition series Baking It is back for season two right in time for the holidays — and this time with a familiar face stepping in as co-host.
After Maya Rudolph and Andy Samberg led the first season, Amy Poehler has replaced Samberg for the second go-around, teaming up with close friend and fellow SNL alum Rudolph. Samberg was off shooting a movie and unavailable to return for season two, Poehler tells The Hollywood Reporter, teasing, “He luckily and gratefully let me step into his sweaters.”
Poehler has previously hosted three seasons of crafting competition show Making It (which inspired Baking It) with former Parks and Recreation co-star Nick Offerman, so when she heard of Samberg’s scheduling conflicts, “I was thrilled. Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph artfully dodged the question of who should succeed Lorne Michaels on “Saturday Night Live” during a Tuesday guest spot on “Late Night With Seth Meyers.”
Appearing via Zoom, the comedians and “Baking It” co-hosts asked their fellow “SNL” alum to hit them with a “Jake Tapper tough one.”
“We know you usually do softballs, but I don’t know, try a tough question for once,” Poehler joked.
When they got what they asked for, the duo pretended that their Zoom screen had frozen, cutting off their microphone so that their answers were unintelligible. While dropping in random words here and there, they pantomimed various gestures, including a rocking-baby-to sleep motion, getting a laugh out of their host.

Since the feast is finished and the shopping (in person and online) has begun, the fine folks at Marvel Studios hope that you’ll take a break for a tasty little seasonal treat. And it’s the most unusual of setting for such an offering as much of it takes place in the most distant reaches of the MCU. Another universe, really. You see, the Earth-born leader of our favorite group of planet-hopping (I’m using a line from the first flick) “A-holes” is not quite feeling the yuletide spirit. Oh, as mentioned earlier, little is the operative word as this is yet another Marvel Studios Special Presentation, following October’s Werewolf By Night. It’s not really feature-length and it’s too long to be considered a short subject (maybe a “super deluxe” home video extra). So fire up the egg nog and join the ragtag space crew for...

“Disenchanted” is a new live-action/animated musical fantasy feature sequel, directed by Adam Shankman starring Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Maya Rudolph, Idina Menzel and James Marsden, releasing in theaters November 23, 2022:
"...it has been 15 years since 'Giselle' (Adams) and 'Robert' (Dempsey) wed, but Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city, so they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of 'Monroeville' in search of a more fairy tale life.
"Unfortunately, it isn’t the quick fix she had hoped for. Suburbia has a whole new set of rules and a local queen bee, 'Malvina Monroe' (Rudolph), who makes Giselle feel more out of place than ever.
"Frustrated that her happily ever after hasn’t been so easy to find, she turns to the magic of 'Andalasia' for help, accidentally transforming the entire town into a real-life fairy tale and placing her family’s future happiness in jeopardy.

The long-anticipated sequel to “Enchanted” is almost here! The trailer to the sequel dropped Friday at Disney’s D23 Expo, and it promises life’s not always a fairytale in the suburbs.
The trailer opens with Amy Adams as Giselle, a princess that finds her way from her animated fairy-tale land into the real world finding herself in the suburbs of Monroeville and married to Robert Philip (Patrick Dempsey).
James Marsden, who played Giselle’s daft fairy-tale prince — and who ends up with Robert’s ex, Nancy (Idina Menzel) — in the first film, told Et last fall that he was excited to return to the role.

D23, the Disney-backed convention in Anaheim, kicked off its first big panel of the day with new trailers for Hocus Pocus 2 and Disenchanted Friday.
Hocus Pocus 2 brings back Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sisters and takes place 29 years after the 1993 film. Sam Richardson, Doug Jones, Hannah Waddingham, Froyan Gutierrez and Tony Hale are also among the cast. Though the stars were not onhand for D23, they did send a video intro to the crowd.
The sequel follows three young women who accidentally bring the Sanderson Sisters back to modern-day Salem and who must team up to stop the witches and save their town. Kenny Ortega directed the original Hocus Pocus, which became a cult classic despite not being a big box office hit. The Proposal filmmaker Anne Fletcher is directing the new installment.

Ready to rock?
The Sundance selected documentary “Sirens,” directed by Rita Baghdadi, tells the story of Lebanon’s first all-female metal band, Slave to Sirens. The film is executive-produced by Natasha Lyonne and Maya Rudolph and centers on the band’s friendships, relationships, and at times, self-destruction, in the pursuit of rock stardom. “Sirens” won the Grand Jury Prize at Outfest and is set to premiere in theaters September 30 from Oscilloscope Laboratories.
Per the official synopsis, on the outskirts of Beirut, Lilas and her thrash metal bandmates, Shery, Maya, Alma, and Tatyana (Slave to Sirens), have big dreams but few opportunities. When the band’s appearance at a U.K. music festival isn’t the life-changer they had hoped for, Lilas comes home to Lebanon on the brink of collapse. At the same time, the complicated relationship between Lilas and her fellow guitarist Shery starts to fracture. The future of her band,...

Labor Day weekend is coming up, which means just one thing: the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Statuettes will be handed out on Saturday, Sept. 3 and Sunday, Sept. 4. Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here to make their predictions for both nights, starting with Night 1. (Night 2 predictions coming on Aug. 30.)
Saturday is all about unscripted and nonfiction fare. This is when RuPaul will likely win Best Reality Host for the seventh year in a row for “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and “The Beatles: Get Back” is poised for a big night. But could it also be a big night for the Super Bowl halftime show? It would be the first halftime show to win the Best Variety Special (Live) category, which frontrunner “Live in Front of a Studio Audience: The Facts of Life and Diff’rent Strokes” has won twice for the franchise’s previous outings.

We won't be returning to New Raccoon City anytime soon. Netflix's Resident Evil series has not been renewed after just one season, Deadline reports. The show, which debuted on July 14, was loosely based on the popular video game series of the same name, but did not have a strong showing on Netflix's Top 10. Resident Evil, starring Ella Balinska, Paola Núñez, Lance Reddick and Adeline Rudolph, alternates between two timelines—one following Jade (Balinska) and her sister Billie (Rudolph) as they discover the dark secrets of their father and the villainous Umbrella Corporation, and the other 14 years later as Jade tries to survive the...

Last month, we learned that Lionsgate is funding a horror film based on the novel Creepers (pick up a copy Here) by First Blood author David Morrell. At the time, it was said that Skylan Brooks (The Darkest Minds) would be one of the film’s cast members – but Deadline reports that Brooks is no longer involved with the project. Taking over the role he was going to play is Shane Paul McGhie, who is best known for playing the role of Landon in After and After We Collided. (McGhie then passed the role over to Chance Perdomo for After We Fell.)
Creepers tells the story of
a group of young urban explorers who plan to investigate an old, boarded up, seemingly abandoned hotel, only to encounter danger at every turn in the form of a competing group of hostile urban explorers seeking to find a legendary hidden treasure as...
