Prett-ay… prett-ay… prett-ay good news: “Curb Your Enthusiasm” Season 11 will premiere in October, HBO said Monday.
Larry David is back with co-stars Susie Essman, Jeff Garlin, Cheryl Hines, Richard Lewis, J.B. Smoove and Ted Danson to offer his opinions about the pandemic and wrap himself in the show’s signature misfortunes.
Season 10 ended with a fire taking down Larry’s spite store, Latte Larry’s — created in order to put the neighboring Mocha Joe’s out of business.
“Curb Your Enthusiasm” is created by David, who executive produces with Jeff Garlin, Schaffer and Gavin Polone. Laura Streicher co-executive produces, while Jon Hayman and Steve Leff serve as consulting producers.
The network also announced that “Succession” and “Insecure” will also return in October.

Deep Blue Sea, Renny Harlin’s 1999 sci-fi/horror fest that was unleashed during a pretty loaded summer season, is a concept that would seem right up the alley of a Syfy original.
For those unfamiliar with it, here’s the gist. In an effort to cure Alzheimer’s, a team of scientists working on a floating laboratory named Aquatica in the middle of the ocean have genetically engineered a trio of Mako sharks whose brain tissue fluids, once drained, serve as the key to unlocking the cure. Unfortunately, the sharks’ increased brain size only results in making the beasts even smarter, and it’s not long before the sharks enact a plan to gain their own freedom by picking off everyone they can and sinking the facility itself in the process.
As you probably know, there’s nothing deep about Deep Blue Sea. It knows it’s not Jaws, and...

The killer shark genre has seen something of a resurgence lately, and thankfully not the cheesy gimmicky kind. Nope, we’ve been getting serious attempts at aquatic horror lately thanks to The Shallows and 47 Meters Down. And now, it’s resulted in the long-awaited sequel to Deep Blue Sea being pushed into production.
The Darrin Scott-directed film, which was shot in Cape Town, South Africa over the summer, has recently been rated R for “creature violence and gore” as well having some “ strong language.” At least they’re not worried about being too graphic. After all, it’s far too easy to make a PG-13 shark movie these days, so I respect the producers’ decision to go all the way with this new effort.

In 1987 the horror genre was dominated by the slasher fad of that decade. Zombies were mostly something seen only in Italian gorefests with the name Fulci attached. Ghosts and supernatural films were few and far between. Vampires ... well, vampires had been neutered and reduced to whiny flouncy boys by the likes of Anne Rice.
Seemingly out of nowhere came a film that introduced a young audience to a new, hip breed of bloodsucker in The Lost Boys. These vamps, while retaining the inherent sexiness of Rice’s Louis and Lestat, were, by their actions, a callback to the more vicious creatures made popular by the likes of people like Christopher Lee. The Lost Boys was nothing short of a cultural phenomenon and a film that served as a touchstone for the zeitgeist of the time.

We're all big fans of DC's series of animated shorts that have accompanied their feature-length animated films lately, and since we're definitely not alone in digging the "DC Showcase" offerings, it's no surprise that all of the shorts will be collected on DVD and Blu-Ray later this year.
What is a surprise, however, is that the collection will come with a brand new, original short featuring Superman, Captain Marvel, and one of my favorite DC characters, Black Adam.
Warner Home Video's "DC Showcase Original Shorts Collection" hits shelves in November and features the previously released shorts focusing on The Spectre and Jonah Hex, as well as the upcoming Green Arrow short and the aforementioned "Superman/Shazam!" short. DC/WB has sent along a pair of screenshots from the "Superman/Shazam!" short that offer the first peek at Captain Marvel and Black Adam.

Back in April of 2007, producer Robert Burnett and director Dave Parker put together a pitch teaser trailer for what would eventually become The Hills Run Red . At the time, it was set up as Fever Dreams project, but after completing this trailer and showing it to Warner Premiere President Diane Nelson and production executive Matt Bierman, they decided the film would be perfect to produce as part of their output deal with Joel Silver's Dark Castle Entertainment. Hence, this is how The Hills Run Red came to be. Shot in one day on a shoestring in the Vine theater on Hollywood Blvd, the teaser stars Sara Downing as the girl in the chair, Nick Principe as the Babyface prototype and a number of other genre luminaries as dead corpses, such as directors Mike Mendez, Darin Scott, Rolfe...

This review was written for the festival screening of "The Grand".Tribeca Film Festival
NEW YORK -- For his second directorial effort, screenwriter Zak Penn ("X-Men: The Last Stand") uses an improvisational approach similar to his feature debut, "Incident at Loch Ness", with much more successful results. This ensemble comedy about a group of eccentric players competing in a multimillion-dollar poker match will inevitably be compared to the works of Christopher Guest, but what "The Grand" lacks in originality it more than makes up for with its high percentage of funny moments.
Penn, who co-wrote the script with Matt Bierman, has assembled a top-notch cast of comedic performers who seem to be having one hell of a time. Their enjoyment is infectious, and while some of the gags invariably go on for too long, for the most part the film is crisply paced and consistently uproarious.
The central character is "One Eyed" Jack Faro (Woody Harrelson), who's lost the casino his grandfather left him because of his various addictions, not the least of which is to marriage. In order to gain it back from an addled real estate developer (Michael McKean), he enters a poker competition called "The Grand", the prize being $10 million.
To win, he must compete against a gallery of bizarre players, including Larry Schwartzman (David Cross), whose distraction techniques include wearing a burka; his sister, Lainie (Cheryl Hines), a profane Long Island housewife; LBJ "Deuce" Fairbanks (Dennis Farina), who longs for the good old days of breaking legs; Andy Andrews (Richard Kind), who garnered his spot at the table after winning an online game; Harold Melvin (Chris Parnell), a semi-autistic who lives with his elderly mother; "The German" (Werner Herzog), who needs to kill at least one animal a day; and others.
Also on hand are such characters as Lainie's husband (Ray Romano), a "lightning survivor"; her father (sitcom star Gabe Kaplan, now a real-life player); and other competitors played in cameos by such figures as Hank Azaria, Jason Alexander and director Brett Ratner, among many others.
Penn and Bierman have clearly allowed their performers to let loose, with mostly hilarious results. Their attempt to provide some emotional depth to the proceedings, with a subplot involving the dysfunctional Schwartzman family dynamics, is less successful, though it does little harm.
