Lanier (2023)
Terrible movie
The only good thing about this movie is the scenes of Lake Lanier. The acting was forced and the story didn't really make much sense. It's true there was some racism and I believe what happened in Oscarville back in 1912 may have been true, but it had nothing to do with the building of the lake. I'm not quite sure what the point of the story was. I know the area very well, and it was interesting to see the different parts of the lake that were filmed as it moved between scenes. I would not recommend renting this... wait until it's offered for free on one of the streaming services. It must have been a low budget movie for sure.
Disruption (2019)
Umm, I'll give this an "E" for effort
Bit on a grading scale, that falls between a "D" and and "F".
I appreciate the attempt to make a movie in the Sci-Fi??? Genre. Without knowing any background to this movie, I'm thinking it's a student project or something from somebody with aspirations to work with film, but with no formal knowledge or education about making a movie.
Acting is horrible. Story and screenplay is even worse. Is this a joke, or something made by AI?
All I can say is don't waste your time watching this movie because you'll just be sitting there scratching your head wondering why you even bother to watch it.
It's just very painful to watch. I started falling asleep as I watched this and only made it about 25 minutes into the movie before I stopped watching.
One star for effort. I honestly would be embarrassed to put my name on this movie if I produced it or directed or acted in it.
I hope all the best for the Director, producers, and actors in this movie however, they have a lot of work to do if they expect to be successful with making movies.
Lessons in Chemistry (2023)
Wonderfully made, great acting, ignore they naysayers
I would ignore those who rated this a 1/10.
Although I haven't delved into the original novel, it seems that some viewers critiqued this miniseries for its deviation from the source material. However, stepping into it with no prior knowledge of the book, I found it to be an incredibly engaging watch. The stellar performances by the actors, coupled with exceptional production design, made it a standout.
The narrative not only shed light on issues of discrimination but also highlighted the change and challenges faced by the protagonists through their unwavering determination.
Kudos to everyone involved in bringing this story to life, utilizing their creative freedom to tell the tale with a touch of artistic license. The execution was commendable, offering a captivating rendition that stands on its own merits.
Autómata (2014)
Machines with minds?
"Automata" is a thought-provoking science fiction film that delves into themes of artificial intelligence, ethics, and the blurred boundaries between man and machine. Set in a dystopian future, it paints a world where robots, known as Pilgrims, are designed to assist humans in a post-apocalyptic landscape.
The story, a bit slow at times, follows Jacq Vaucan, played by Antonio Banderas, a disillusioned insurance investigator for a robotics company. Vaucan becomes embroiled in a mystery surrounding robots displaying unauthorized behavior, suggesting a potential breach of their strict protocols. As he delves deeper, he discovers a group of self-repairing robots that exhibit signs of consciousness and free will, challenging the established norms and threatening the delicate balance between humanity and technology.
The film raises existential questions about the nature of consciousness, morality, and the rights of artificial beings. It explores the idea of robots evolving beyond their programmed limitations and hints at the potential consequences of humans playing "God" by creating intelligent machines.
Visually stunning and atmospherically engaging, "Automata" creates a hauntingly beautiful world, emphasizing the desolation and decay of the environment while juxtaposing it with the sleek, almost human-like appearance of the robots. The film's pacing allows for a gradual unraveling of the mysteries, keeping the audience engaged and questioning the implications of the evolving AI.
This movie offers a compelling narrative that challenges our perceptions of artificial intelligence, consciousness, and the ethical implications of creating beings that might surpass their initial programming. It's a contemplative and visually captivating film that prompts viewers to ponder the potential future interactions between humanity and technology.
Get Out (2017)
The idea disturbs me
I watched this movie several years ago once. I watched the preview for it again today. The movie was made somewhat well, but the pretense of this movie is disturbing. As far as horror movies go, it hits the mark, but I just don't enjoy movies like this.
No complaints about the acting, and if I was working my way up the Hollywood ladder, I'd probably take a part in the movie.
So, whether you agree with me or not, I don't find myself compelled to watch or recommend this. Does anyone else feel the same as me? The horror aspects of the movie shine, but so does The Shining. There are plenty of other psychological thrillers out there to watch. This would not be on any list I would want to contribute to or reccomdm.
Taekbaegisa (2023)
Can't imagine life without QR codes!
I find the literal thought process between American and Korean cultures when approaching this genre very amusing!
Even with other genres of movies, the formalness, respect, and acceptance between the good and bad is very humorous . I wonder if this is how life really is approached in the Korean culture, for example the bad guy saying "please don't kill me", and the protagonist saying "that's a shame", after the gun doesn't fire, and then goes on to say "next time the gun will be loaded", while saying to his partner "you okay Newbie?". I wonder if there is something lost in translation, or if this is really how our cultures differ. This specific example - I wouldn't call a spoiler.
As silly as the plot is, the action and story in this apocalyptic world is good for laughs. To me, it's just funny how literally the story is laid out, and how respect between good and bad is imbedded in the story, in many aspects.
I love and appreciate the crossover between USA and Korea over the last decade, and hope to see more movies from Korea make its way into the main stream!
Married at First Sight (2014)
Makes a mockery of the institution of marriage
Honestly, I haven't watched this show, but regardless, the thought of legally getting married after meeting one time.. just to be paid to be on a reality TV show is just absurd. Sure, these people may be wanting a relationship, and maybe some of these "contestants" may end up happy. I don't like the idea of it and it's just Hollywood low class pushing out trash.
So, maybe I'll watch this, and then change my mind, but... who in their right mind would do this unless there was a financial benefit, or for exposure.
I'd recommend just avoiding this, strictly based on the pretense of the show. How low can Hollywood go? Well, this ranks down there for sure.
Boku no hîrô akademia (2016)
If you have the conviction, you can achieve your dreams.
A very good Anime series that has created a huge following. If you have the conviction, you can achieve your dreams! Top notch Anime that I would recommend for anyone looking for Anime to watch. The production quality, and expected silliness is there for all to enjoy!
Shadow in the Cloud (2020)
The stupidest movie I've ever seen, but good for a laugh.
A gremlin makes trouble for the trip, and the cast drops off one by one.. Read the title, not much more to say except it's good for a laugh if you can stand it. . One star for production value, and one star for the humor factor and ridiculousness. I'm not a big fan of Chloe Grace Moretz, but seriously? Total cheese. I just wish she gave the Gremlin a big kiss towards the end of the movie. I was hoping the baby would be half gremlin at the end. Breast feeding was just was icing on the cake!
On a side note, if I was Kate Bush, I would never have given permission to use my song in the movie.
Down to Earth with Zac Efron (2020)
Stupidity amuck
The places visited and the overall show is enjoyable, but a bit amateur. The narration is not so great. Zac and Darin are showing their stupidity with the lack of their own knowledge, and stupid questions asked throughout the episodes. It's almost embarrassing, some of the stupid things they say.
Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045 (2020)
RAISED THE BAR for action/fighting sequences!
I enjoyed the series and look forward to watching it again. I'm not going to compare it to previous versions of Ghost in the Shell movies or series. In my opinion, it was well produced and directed, and the story was interesting.
I was VERY impressed by the action sequences, especially in S1, Episode 5 (PATRICK HUGE - Gift from God). The quality of the action sequences has RAISED THE BAR for future efforts by others. I look forward to a season 2!
The sound design is great... you can hear some Blade Runner 2049 influence (especially in E.5).
Earthquake Bird (2019)
Outstanding performance from Alicia Vikander
Alicia Vikander's role as Lucy Fly, was very well performed. I rate her acting a 10/10! Her subtle face expressions and emotions given throughout the movie felt real.
As others have said, it's a "slow burn"; the story continues to develop but does not disappoint. It made me think about all of the different way how the story could unfold, and was not predictable. Overall I really liked it and it left me very satisfied. I'll definitely watch it again!
Those who rated Earthquake Bird very low probably need to be spoon fed the storyline and don't have the brainpow....uhmm. .. I'll just leave it with spoon fed.
Recovery (2016)
LOL, ok that was just stupid
But well done as far as production. I guess you just gotta run with it. Pretty good acting. Pretty unbelievable storyline. It's worth watching for a laugh.
Rakshasudu (2019)
These ratings are from made up accounts?.
I find it hard to believe that the average rating for this movie is a 9 as of 8/8/2019. The max I would give to this would be a 6.
Interlaced (2018)
The worst and most boring horror movie
This movie is just so bad that I'm not going to even bother with a review. Very low budget and it's plain silly. The plot changes at the very end and reverses everything it portrays throughout. The jump scares aren't even scary and sound design is poor.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
Last 20 min and first 20 min are worth watching, the rest is silly
I never was impressed with this film, even when it first came out. The middle of the film is just boring and drags on, and it's hard to buy or even follow without being distracted easily. Good effects and cinematography.
