Blue Beetle (2023)
Fun experience at best !
Another superhero movie ?! Well that's a shock ! But this one was ok ! Not as amazing as the critics think it is ! Classic storyline and mirror similarities to the concept of the fast and furious franchise !
To start off proceedings, I thought the casting choices were great, highlighting the Hispanic culture and the chemistry was excellent among the cast ! Along with light hearted moments and wacky moments at times, it was fun !
Nevertheless, I felt the movie could have done even more with the action sequences and felt it was too soft and predictable! Although, the sequences didn't really delivered to the heights of a classic super hero movie ! The last post credit scene was a bit unnecessary and completed moved away from the main plot of this movie.
Despite this, it was fun and I really enjoyed the humour and the soundtrack choices was well done but plenty room for improvement for future outings !
Talk to Me (2022)
Unexpectedly brilliant !
I went in there with low expectations, especially how bad horror movies can be - predictable and a rinse repeat scenario ! For some reason though, this one felt different ! From the visuals, casting and the storyline felt like it all clicked at once !
Firstly, the storyline - It highlights the influence of social media and how viewers will realise the psychological effects and the driving factor for people to do the unexpected in order to seek attention and popularity ! It really nails down its objective on getting the message out there ! As for the plot, it was clear where the story was going and felt like a twisted rollercoaster which keeps crashing without really knowing it !
The biggest plus of this movie was the cast - the casting choices were excellent and every single of them have performed brilliantly and the chemistry was on point !
Overall, it was a brilliantly crafted horror movie and personally a strong contender for the best horror movie of the year !
Oppenheimer (2023)
Brilliant and fascinating !
To kick things off ! I have to say the visuals and the storyline was very well combined ! I was very well impressed with some of the performances and in particular Emily Blunt Cillian Murphy and most importantly the support actors who had their moment to shine through this movie.
They were moments were you feel like it's going to explode but left with an open ended line wondering what's next ! Nevertheless, it was encouraging to see Nolan putting a factual output of Oppenheimer's character and bringing the audience into the shoes of the character. Despite this, the last hour really dragged a bit longer than it should of been but can't take way another masterclass from Nolan !!
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
Tom Cruise at it again ! Simply breathtaking !
Simply where to start ? I mean it was eccentric from start to finish and not even once I was left in boredom ! The plot was comprehensive and the casting choices have been very well thought ! Hayley Atwell was brilliant and really aced her character beautifully along with the rest of the cast !
But this movie wasn't really about the plot and the dialogue ! It was how well the action sequences was delivered and really showcase the reason why movies of this scale should be at the cinema. Yet again, it's the testament to the hard work and dedication which Tom Cruise have put into this franchise for us audience to gain full value for money ! From the car chases and the motorbike scene, it felt like you were very much part of it !
Overall, I felt the movie wasn't as good as the last outing but good enough to keep us entertained added with some humorous scenes which added extra spice throughout !
No Hard Feelings (2023)
Hilarious at times but slightly underwhelming
Despite my good efforts of finding genuine positivity from this movie. The storyline looked ok but lack creativity and feels like the audience already knew how this movie will turn out !
Jennifer Lawrence's performance was ok, but the chemistry amongst characters was very far apart. It felt like the movie dragged on a little bit with no real substance to the plot. Nevertheless, I felt the dialogue was hilarious at times and both of the car scenes stood out to me.
Overall, it was very underwhelming and a poorly executed storyline. Certain scenes felt rushed and very short of creativity, but the humour kept it together in the end.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023)
Better than expected !
As a neutral, I went in there with no real expectations. Regardless of the critics out there, I have personally enjoyed it. There is a new direction along with some exciting new characters and overall it was fun viewing.
I felt the storyline was simple and comprehensive and the chemistry among the characters were solid. To be honest though, it may not be everyone's couple of tea. Especially for people who may have enjoyed the earlier versions of it.
Nevertheless, the action sequences were ok, they are plenty room of improvements and at times it lacked innovation. Despite this, the introduction of Anthony Ramos was interesting and he didn't disappoint in his performance.
Overall, it was an enjoyable experience but don't expect too much fireworks from this movie, looking forward to see how this franchise unfolds !
Hypnotic (2023)
Not Amazing !
Firstly, I like the idea behind this movie. Something different and deviating from your typical thriller. The content of this movie looks great. But, I felt the plot was rushed and very confused of the actual role of certain characters. It's fair to say, Ben Affleck wasn't cut out for a movie of this genre. As I felt his performance was very one dimensional and never looked like he adapted to this concept.
Despite this, I felt the choice of villain was good. William Fichtner nailed his role to the tea and was mysteriously clever throughout which kept the movie on your toes at times.
Overall, this movie had a lot of potential to be something extraordinary but the delivery was poorly executed.
Fast X (2023)
Ridiculously fun ! Momoa was sensational !
Firstly, the concept of fast and furious has blown out of the window from the 5th one onwards ! As for this one, ONCE AGAIN it was a series of bonfire sequences with no real meaning behind it !
Nevertheless, it was fun viewing and the action sequences itself were outrageously amusing. Beside this, it was great to see past characters back on the fold again which makes it interesting on what comes next !
Personally the biggest plus of this movie, was the introduction of Jason Momoa - He was unreal to watch and looks like he will turn out to be the Best Villain of this Franchise ! Hilarious Notorious and sophisticated !
Overall, it was an enjoyable cinematic experience and as a neutral it was ok but plenty to build on for the next outing !!
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
Viewable but slightly underwhelming
As a neutral, I felt this movie was fun and entertaining but at times I was left confused where the story was going. It's fair to say though the humour kept it engaging to a point where it was getting a bit repetitive.
As for the content, I felt it was ok,the characters played their respective part well. Stallone's introduction didn't really made sense in my opinion. I just felt like it could have been given a bigger part.
Overall, I felt the movie was ok - I can see why the reviews were high for this movie. Personally the plot was overpowering but entertaining and fun viewing in certain part.
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
Simply sensational !
Where to start ? It follows on from the events of chapter 3 and from the word go - it was leading up to something extraordinary and as the movie developed over time it was breathtaking and funny in parts which kept the audience entertained !
The action sequences were remarkable and the introduction of Donnie Yen and Hiroyuki Sanoda was very clever and Scott Adkins character was well done and played Killa's part super well and looked totally unrecognisable !
The Paris scenes were unbelievable and that car chase and fighting scenes around the Arc de Trioumphe was stunningly thrilling and the choice of music really resonated well during that scene.
Overall - It felt like a proper action movie made for the fans and delivered beyond expectations yet again ! I never felt so happy to come out of the cinema since Top-Gun Maverick ! I hope the rest of Hollywood are watching this and witnessing how an action movie should really be made ! Well done Chad ! You have outdone yourself yet again !
Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody (2022)
Ok at best !
Firstly, I have to say the movie was OK at best - some amazing individual performances but lacked creativity for a Biopic.
The biggest plus from this movie was the music and it was truly a great reminder how special Whitney's talent was and how influential her voice was to the hip pop and the R&B industry. As for the lead actor Naomi Ackie, I felt she did a fine job in portraying Whitney and so as the the rest of the cast in their respective roles.
Despite some fine performances, I felt the content and the plot was very underwhelming and felt like this movie was rushed and didn't allow to really developed.
Overall, it was an ok movie but is it Oscar worthy ? I don't think so !
Black Adam (2022)
Fantastic - The Rock looks unreal
I went in there with no real expectations, following off the reviews. Firstly, I would have hoped they've brought the exact version from the comics. Nevertheless, the content of this movie was simple and clear from the start which made it engaging and comprehensive at the same time.
As for the rock, he has made this role as his own and really nailed the character pretty well. Even though, they have fallen short of unlocking the true potential of the character.
However, the rest of the cast was very well done and felt the chemistry amongst them was very well attached. Along with the special effects and action sequences have made this fun viewing.
Overall, a solid move all round with plenty of surprises in store which would keep you on the edge of your seat.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Fairly entertaining !
As a neutral, I have enjoyed the movie but felt the action sequences were very underwhelming and predictable. However, Chris Hemsworth's performance really carried this movie with some fine humour in a emotionally charge display. Beside this, Christian Bale and Natalie Portman have both nailed their respective roles and made this movie lightening thrilling.
