A+E Networks remains a stakeholder in Vice TV. On pay-tv, the network launched as Viceland in 2016 after taking over A+E’s H2 in a rebrand before later adopting the name Vice TV.

The Stone Cold Stunner. The People's Elbow. Sweet Chin Music. The Figure Four. 619. There are some moves in the world of professional wrestling that are so well-known they can be identified by non-wrestling fans outside of the squared circle. And now, one of the most compelling submission moves in wrestling history — the Iron Claw — is the title of Sean Durkin's heartbreaking drama about the Von Erich family. During an Iron Claw, the wrestler places all five fingers over the face of their opponent and squeezes as hard as they can into the temples. It's one of the most evocative moves in a wrestler's arsenal because there's no way to "fake" it. The audience can see a bare hand over an agonized face, giving the impression that if the wrestler didn't stop ... they could crush a skull like an empty soda can.
And no one could do it like Fritz Von Erich.

As a dyed-in-the-wool wrestling fan, Sean Durkin's "The Iron Claw" was one of my most anticipated films of 2023. Based on the real-life story of the Von Erich wrestling dynasty (real last name Adkisson), the film features Zac Efron as Kevin Von Erich, Jeremy Allen White as Kerry Von Erich, Harris Dickinson as David Von Erich (my personal favorite of the Von Erich brothers), Stanley Simons as Mike Von Erich, Holt McCallany as Fritz Von Erich, and Maura Tierney as Doris Adkisson. For wrestling fans, the Von Erich story is the stuff of infamy, a dark moment in the industry's history that weighs heavy on the hearts of multiple generations. Pulling off "The Iron Claw" would be no easy feat for those involved, but the result is one of the best films of 2023.

Plot: The true story of the inseparable Von Erich brothers, part of a professional wrestling dynasty in the early 1980s, as they endure tragedy and triumph under the shadow of their domineering father and coach.
Review: The Iron Claw is a film that a lot of people in the movie and professional wrestling communities have been looking forward to. Especially after the episode of Dark Side of the Ring on the Von Erich “curse”, fascination with the subject has soared like a Kevin Von Erich flying crossbody. For me, too, having loved professional wrestling since I was a child, and having seen a lot of the Von Erich tragedy play out, I wondered how in the world Sean Durkin could turn this into a story that audiences could enjoy.
I’m not sure he accomplished that last bit. Don’t get me wrong; The Iron Claw is an incredible film; a harrowing,...

The Von Erich family is one of the most celebrated, storied and tragic dynasties in professional wrestling history. Now, their remarkable – and short – run is ready to move from the legend of the ring to the prestige of the big screen, as the trailer for The Iron Claw has debuted.
In the trailer for The Iron Claw — which just jumped even higher than it was on my list of most anticipated movies of the year — we see the drive, struggles and “curse” of the Von Erich family as they face opponents in and demons out of the ring.

There are few sports stories as bizarre and tragic as tale of the Von Erich family, a family of professional wrestlers whose luck was so singularly awful that it popularized something called the “Von Erich Curse.” Was the curse real? You might find out if you watch “The Iron Claw,” the upcoming sports drama from A24 and filmmaker Sean Durkin, named after the wrestling move the family popularized. And you can watch the trailer above.
An extremely chiseled Zac Efron stars as Kevin, Jeremy Allen White (equally buff) as Kerry, Harris Dickinson as David and Holt McCallany as their domineering father Fritz. (Part of Fritz’s schtick early in his wrestling career was dressing as an evil Nazi character.) Maura Tierney and Lily James also star.

For months now, we've been seeing paparazzi photos of Zac Efron looking extremely beefy with a silly haircut, and hearing reports about "The Bear" star Jeremy Allen White's "gross" diet in preparation for the new A24 film, "The Iron Claw." For outsiders looking in, "The Iron Claw" looks like a wrestling drama, and many are thrilled to see the pair of actors step into the squared circle of muscle ballet. However, the average Joe's opinion of wrestling is rooted in the heyday of Hulkamania, the Attitude Era of the late '90s, or through crossover stars who have since become actors. Here's the thing: It's really cool that Allen and Efron are going to be in a wrestling movie, but if you're anticipating something like the extremely fun "Fighting With My Family" starring Florence Pugh or the deeply moving biopic "Cassandro" starring Gael García Bernal ... you're in for a hell of a rude awakening.

Amid the pending fate of its co-parent company Vice Media Group, Vice TV is focusing on its latest season of “Dark Side of the Ring,” and Vice Studios-produced projects recently launched on other platforms, including “American Gladiators” on ESPN, “Bama Rush” at Max, and “100 Days to Indy” at the CW network.
It’s also looking to the future, ordering second seasons of “Dark Side of Comedy” and “Sex Before the Internet” and greenlighting new series “Dark Side of the 2000s” for its own cable channel, in addition to moving Vice web series “One Star Reviews” to linear.

Just because the week is shorter, doesn’t mean that there’s any less stellar programming on the horizon, with new seasons of “I Think You Should Leave,” “Dark Side of the Ring,” “Nancy Drew” and “Painting with John,” plus the series finales of “Barry” and “Succession.” And that’s to say nothing of a ripped-from-the-headlines HBO movie (starring Sydney Sweeney no less), a documentary about the American Gladiators and a LeBron James biopic. A jam-packed week, even with one fewer day!

Thanks to readily accessible information at our fingertips, we don't really have folk heroes anymore, but kayfabe is still alive thanks to the world of professional wrestling ... err, I mean, "sports entertainment." Of those figures, there is no one quite as polarizing as Vincent Kennedy McMahon. For nearly half a century, Vince McMahon has been the most powerful presence in the world of professional wrestling, turning WWE into one of the most financially successful companies in all of entertainment.
His influence and importance cannot be overstated, which is why it's so difficult to grapple with his legacy. McMahon changed the landscape of wrestling, but he is also an unequivocally problematic figure. And yet, it's impossible for any of us to know the true story behind McMahon because he's been using his power for years to shape his narrative. He's spun himself into a folk hero in the eyes of many,...

There are some filmmakers that just effortlessly ooze cool, and Jason Eisener is absolutely one of those people. The Canadian creative first came to mainstream public consciousness after winning the "Grindhouse" fake trailer contest hosted by Robert Rodriguez and SXSW Festival, and his winning short, "Hobo with a Shotgun," led to a feature film of the same name starring Rutger Hauer. In the years that followed, Eisener has been involved in a slew of ridiculously rad projects, like the killer Christmas tree slasher, "Treevenge," serving as a producer on the well-loved "Turbo Kid," co-creating the Vice series "Dark Side of the Ring," and directing a segment of "V/H/S/2" that evolved into the genre-bending feature film, "Kids vs. Aliens."
If you want a film to have striking visuals, snappy dialogue, and a bleeding, beating heart of genre influences, you call Jason Eisener. This is why it makes complete sense that Eisner...

Jason Eisener has been quite the busy filmmaker over the last decade or so, largely focused on documenting the world of wrestling through his series, "Dark Side of the Ring." That might explain why the guy who made "Hobo With a Shotgun" had a full decade-long break before making his next feature film. Well, fortunately, Eisner has indeed stepped back behind the camera for a new movie, and this time, he's made a kid-focused sci-fi flick in the form of "Kids vs. Aliens," which is set to make its debut later this week.
The movie focuses on a kid named Gary who wants to make awesome home movies with his best friends. Meanwhile, his older sister Samantha wants to hang with the cool kids. When their parents head out of town one Halloween weekend, they throw an all-time rager of a house party that takes quite the turn when aliens attack.

The cold open of Tadff’s closing night feature isn’t perfect. The shots feel cheap, the blood is too red, and the edit takes a bit too long to show us the victim’s scream. But what shouts “clunky, cheap, and bloody,” ends up quickly morphing into, “jaw shattering, inexpensive, and bloody.” Here for Blood is a thick hero’s slow walk to victory that passes through horror sub-genres like a jaunt through a neighborhood haunted house.

This past weekend, Jason Eisener celebrated the world premiere of his latest feature film, Kids vs. Aliens, at Fantastic Fest 2022. While it’s been 11 years since the last time Eisener was in the director’s chair for a feature, that doesn’t mean the Canadian filmmaker hasn’t been plenty busy. He’s created several short films, edited and produced a handful of other projects, and has been the executive producer and director for this writer’s favorite TV docuseries, Dark Side of the Ring, for Vice TV.
While at Fantastic Fest, Daily Dead had the opportunity to catch up with Eisener to chat about Kids vs. Aliens, and during our chat, he discussed his extremely busy schedule, why the timing was right to make another feature, how Kids vs. Aliens was inspired by many of his own childhood experiences, and more.

Back in the day, if anyone were to talk about what was happening behind the scenes in professional wrestling, they would be shunned relentlessly or worse. Although the locker room drama was often just as good if not better than whatever was going on in the ring, and if you knew which message boards to visit or which magazines to subscribe to, there's a chance that you'd still be privy to some of these stories. But most wrestling fans were completely in the dark about things like that.
All of that changed in the modern era thanks to tell-all interviews, company-sanctioned podcasts, and hard-hitting documentaries that leave no stone unturned. The best example of the latter is "Dark Side of the Ring," a Vice series co-created by Jason Eisener and Evan Husney. This fan-favorite show covered some of the most famous and infamous figures and events in wrestling history without...

If you're a genre film fan and a lifelong wrestling fan, there's a good chance you hold Jason Eisener in pretty high regard. The filmmaker first broke onto the scene after he won Robert Rodriguez's "Grindhouse" faux trailer competition with "Hobo with a Shotgun," which he later turned into a feature film starring Rutger Hauer. He's responsible for the "Y is for Youngbuck" segment of "The ABCs of Death," the "V/H/S/2/" segment "Alien Abduction Slumber Party," the killer Christmas tree slasher "Treevenge," the nightmare fuel of "One Last Dive," and he also produced the cult hit "Turbo Kid." The dude loves making fun movies, almost as much as he loves the art of professional wrestling.
Back in 2019, Eisener and co-creator Evan Husney unleashed the docuseries "Dark Side of the Ring" onto the world. The series goes beyond the kayfabe of professional wrestling, and deeply examines the countless...
