Mercury Review: A decent thriller with its climax, performances and a few suspenseful moments as the only saving grace.
Movie: Mercury (U): Drama/Horror/Thriller - Silent
MERCURY is simply a well-intentioned movie. It talks about environmental issues well but what it doesn't succeed in, is building up a strong, gripping plot.
Positives:
Negatives:
Repeat value: No
MERCURY is just a decent thriller which is worth watching for its experimentation with the silent cinema without actually being much silent. The efforts can be seen in every frame and Karthik Subbaraj does pass the test with flying colours. But it's definitely not his best work, and given the way the audience has turned up (I watched the Hindi titled version and including me, there were only two persons in the hall), the box office prospects seem rather dim. Still, give it a try. It's really a refreshing experience, and you can't really deny that.

Positives:
- Performances are a major plus, especially that of Prabhudheva.
- The second half has some good suspenseful moments.
- The interval blockade is well scripted.
- The technical aspects are top notch.
- The climax turns out to be a game changer for the whole movie, and it's exactly the point when the emotions are heartfelt.
Negatives:
- Even though it's well known that it's a "silent thriller", the sign language is very hard to interpret and this makes the film even more convoluted. The silence needed is not actually present.
- The first half is very slow and almost nothing big happens till the interval blockade.
- The ending is a bit dragged.
Repeat value: No
