Lionsgate has released the first clip from Eli Roth's adaptation of Gearbox Software and 2K's Borderlands first-person-shooter video game, and it should give fans a pretty good idea of what to expect from the movie's tone.
In this sneak peek, we see the team do their best to keep Claptrap the robot from making too much noise while he "expels lead," but to no avail. After being ambushed by a group of bad guys, Lilith, Roland and Krieg start blasting while the others search for an escape route.

Based on the best-selling videogame, the highly anticipated film adaptation Borderlands, featuring Kevin Hart and Cate Blanchett, is gearing up for release. However, there seems to be a formidable threat looming over its debut. The release of Deadpool & Wolverine, set to hit theaters just a week prior, seems to mark a major clash.

When it was first hinted that Borderlands 4 could be revealed at the Summer Game Fest, fans were buzzing with excitement, and rightfully so. The last proper Borderlands title dropped in 2019, and since then we only had the Tiny Tina’s Wonderland spin-off in 2022.
Well, we have some good news and some bad news for you. Borderlands 4 may not be shown at the event this year. This might burst many bubbles, but it is also an opportunity for a different fan-favorite franchise to gain another installment.
Will Mafia 4 Take the Wheel With Borderlands 4 in the Back Seat? Borderlands 4 may not be revealed quite so soon.
Even with the demise of E3, other events and expos have popped up to fill in the void. As such, summer is one of the most active times for gaming studios and companies to reveal upcoming titles that could be slated for that year’s holiday season.

Lionsgate released the first trailer for Eli Roth's adaptation of Gearbox Software and 2K's Borderlands first-person-shooter video game back in February, and we now have a look at the movie's villains via a new batch of character posters (via GameFragger.com).
The banners spotlight Benjamin Byron Davis as Marcus, Gina Gershon as Moxxi, Janina Gavankar as Commander Knoxx, Olivier Richters as Krom, Edgar Ramirez as Atlas, Bobby Lee as Larry, and The Crimson Lance, who will likley serve as Stormtrooper-like canon fodder.
It seems each poster contains some sort of Easter egg. We couldn't spot anything, but maybe fans of the games will have more luck.
Check out the banners below along with the recent trailer.

With the unofficial beginning of summer — Memorial Day — come and gone, the season has entered full swing. Several of the summer weekends will be crowded at the box office with sometimes three releases competing on similar dates. With action films like Bad Boys: Ride Or Die, A Quiet Place: Day One and Twisters taking us through July, some animated adventures like Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4 will provide fun for whole families.
Deadpool 3 will cap off July with a new Marvel installment from Shawn Levy, Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, making way for more sinister films ahead of fall like M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap and Alien: Romulus. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice deserves an honorable mention although it won’t hit theaters until September to lead into spooky season and October.

While Summer Game Fest hasn’t been able to replace the E3-sized hole in our hearts quite yet, it has certainly become the biggest gaming event of the season. That also means that it is subject to the same series of leaks, rumors, and popular predictions that precede such events.
Truth be told, those going into this even expecting a monumental showcase of the biggest upcoming games will likely walk away from Sgf at least slightly disappointed. Still, here are some of the more notable rumblings about the event you should know about.
Don’t Expect Many Major New Game Announcements
To get the bad news out of the way, Summer Game Fest organizer Geoff Keighley has already made it clear that you shouldn’t expect too many major new announcements at Sgf. There will be some reveals, but the show will largely focus on “existing games that have new updates for fans.

Paul Giamatti will star in a TV version of Eli Roth’s grisly Hostel franchise. Both Roth and the films’ original producers will be involved in the new series.
A gold star to anyone who saw this coming.
Paul Giamatti, of Billions and Big Fat Liar fame, as well as his collaborations with Alexander Payne including Sideways and this year’s wonderful drama The Holdovers (pictured), is starring in a television version of Eli Roth’s Hostel, which is not a sentence I expected to type today.
It seems this collaboration has been on the cards for some time. Giamatti told Entertainment Weekly in a 2013 interview that “Eli was shooting Hostel in Prague and I was shooting The Illusionist and I met him. We talked about me actually killing somebody in that movie but it never panned out”.

Hostel is in the works for the small screen. Paul Giamatti is attached to star in a television series based on Eli Roth’s horror franchise, from Roth, Chris Briggs, Mike Fleiss, all of whom worked on the films, and Fifth Season, Deadline has confirmed.
The show is currently in development and does not yet have a network or streamer attached, but it’s described as an “elevated thriller with Roth’s trademark kills” and a modern reinvention of the horror franchise.
No details yet, but Giamatti is set to play a key role. Roth will direct and write with Briggs, and Roth, Briggs and Fleiss will executive produce.
The original film franchise, first released in 2006, followed three backpackers headed to a Slovak city that promised to meet their hedonistic expectations, with no idea of the hell that awaited them. The first two films were written and directed by Eli Roth and produced by Roth,...

Paul Giamatti has signed on to star in a television adaptation of Eli Roth’s horror franchise “Hostel.”
The project is in development at Fifth Season, the studio behind “Severance,” and does not yet have a distributor attached. Roth is set to direct and write with original franchise producer Chris Briggs. The two of them will also executive produce alongside “Hostel” alum Mike Fleiss.
“Hostel,” which premiered in theaters in 2005 and spawned two sequels, followed American tourists who are convinced by a stranger to travel from Barcelona to Slovakia, where they are then taken captive by an underground organization that kidnaps people for rich clients to torture and kill.
The series is envisioned as a “modern adaptation” and “reinvention” of the low-budget horror franchise, the first installment of which collected $82 million atop a $4.8 million budget. The less lucrative sequel, 2007’s “Hostel: Part II,” still raked in more than $35 million against a $10.2 million budget.

Expecting the unexpected’s been an integral part of players’ experience in every Borderlands game. Even though the series is known for its art style and humor, fans understand that these games don’t shy away from delivering some shocking moments.
Spoiler alert, but the most striking example of this comes from Roland’s death in Borderlands 2, a moment that saddened many of the first game’s fans. However, you may be surprised to know that the title was foreshadowing this from the moment we reunite with him in the game.

In the gaming industry, the development cycle of any game is often filled with twists, turns, and bold decisions. These decisions can change the game completely and can also bring many new things. One such example of a game where the development decision almost fully changed its genre was TitanFall 2.
Developers at Respawn were thinking that the next Titanfall should have an Mmo experience and players can loot from the open world. These changes would have been a huge departure from the original game, but developers thought it through and stuck to their unique gameplay.

It appears that this year’s resurrection of the Alone in the Dark series will have a difficult time getting a follow-up. According to the latest earnings report from Embracer Group, the reimagining of the 1992 Survival Horror cult classic has sold less than expected.
According to the report, Alone in the Dark saw a positive reception from fans with its launch in March, but in contrast received a “mixed reception” from critics and “ultimately performed below management expectations.” Sales figures for the game were not revealed, but to put some perspective on the game’s performance, according to SteamDB, the currently player count is less than 70 at the moment, compared to a concurrent player count peak of 1,628 when it launched.
This report comes a month after news that Embracer Group had laid off several staff at Alone in the Dark developer Pieces Interactive not long after the game’s release.

An exciting reveal has been promised by Sgf for 2K Games; one of the several studios lined up at the Summer Game Fest on June 7. The Sgf account on X, formerly Twitter put out a message stating “2K plans to reveal the next iteration in one of 2K’s biggest and most beloved franchises at Summer Game Fest on Friday, June 7”
2K Games have several franchises to their credit including the NBA and WWE series. However, if it is a ‘beloved and biggest franchise’ that we are talking about, the contenders are more likely to be Borderlands, Bioshock or Mafia. The last game in the Borderlands franchise was Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands that came out in Mar 2022; while the last numbered Borderlands game was Borderlands 3, back in Sep 2019. As far as Bioshock goes, Bioshock Infinite came out a good 11 years ago in Mar 2013; and a remastered collection of all 3 games...

When movie fans think of action stars, names like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Donnie Yen, Bruce Willis, and Jason Statham come to mind. However, Prime Video and Kevin Hart are adding another killing machine to the ranks. No, seriously, the new action daredevil is Kevin Hart. What? I’m not joking. Did you watch the Die Hart 2: Die Harter trailer above? You did? Well, then, I don’t know what to tell you. Stranger things have happened.
Exploding onto Prime Video on May 30, Die Hart 2: Die Harter stars Kevin Hart as an idealized and action-ready version of himself. In the Die Hart 2: Die Harter trailer, Hart stages a restaurant terror attack to help pitch his new film. Eli Roth’s Borderlands will finally hit theaters this August, almost nine years after its announcement. The film, based on the critically acclaimed video game franchise of the same name, underwent several script changes and production delays. The Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart starrer’s trailer was a mixed bag.
Moreover, fans of the game franchise are skeptical of the big screen medium as it may not have the time to establish different storylines starting from the 2009 game.

A popular suggestion among the video game fanbase was to make Borderlands into an animated series. This animated version would be a much better way to bring the world-building, numerous characters, and their complex interconnected storylines onto the screen.

In contrast to other forms of media, video games like Borderlands 3 are usually frowned upon, especially by parents who have kids always glued to their screens. Likewise, there have been many arguments over the years stating why the world of gaming is not what people usually perceive it to be, but none might be as convincing as this recent one, where gamers were able to assist a science research, thanks to a minigame.
Gamers have now helped science make an achievement | Cover for Borderlands 3
Borderlands 3 was released for players to enjoy back in 2019, and soon witnessed the addition of a new mini-game mode called “Borderlands Science“. For those who have not played it, the minigame allows players to contribute to the study and research of microbes, something that we will dive deeper into later.

There are a lot of stages a development house goes through when making a video game, and not following each one of them perfectly can ultimately result in the title becoming a failure. This is something that Gearbox Software, the makers of the Borderlands series has always kept in mind, and is also the reason why they have a dedicated “Truth Team” assigned to make sure one particular step is being followed to the tooth

“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” is a more typical summer movie season-starter than last week’s disappointing “The Fall Guy” (Universal). It’s a franchise film and it’s from Disney (which usually starts things off with a Marvel film).
It’s expected to open to over $50 million this weekend and become the first to gross over $100 million domestic. Industry sources suggest that over the summer, at least eight other releases (extending to early September) will reach this mark. A week ago, that guess would gave been 10.
The same sources pegged “The Fall Guy” as likely to gross over $125 million in the U.S./Canada. This weekend will clarify its fate, but the current trajectory suggests around $80 million. That’s a disappointment for theaters as well as Universal, which spent around $140 million to make the film before marketing.
“Apes” is one of several titles now projected in the $125-$150 million range.

Video games become more fun when an element of curiosity is added to them. Dark Souls does the same, as it is supposed to preserve the sense of mystery. Most of them are added as Easter eggs, but some are purely dedicated to the game those levels are in.
Before social forums and networks discussing video games existed, finding a hidden level kicked in differently. While it may appear like something players aren’t supposed to see, it is in fact there for them to see. While many of you know the games we are about to discuss, chances are you haven’t explored these areas in them yet.

Tom Brady may be the greatest of all time, but his roast wasn’t. The thing is, it maybe could have been.
Netflix is all about eventizing these days, and probably the easiest way to do that — outside of sports rights — is live programming. Sunday’s “The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady,” had plenty of sports and too much live-ness for its own good.
The roast began at 8 p.m. Et/5 p.m. Pt, and proceeded to run, non-stop, for more than three hours. Never have commercials on Netflix been more needed. Or a video editor.
What was the point of doing this live? The danger, sure, but roasts are dangerous by their very nature. Live makes it an even thinner tightrope, we get that, but at what expense? The answer: enjoyment.

Rosamund Pike (Saltburn) is set to join the cast of Now You See Me 3, the upcoming sequel to the magical heist franchise.
Exactly who Rosamund Pike will play in Now You See Me 3 is being kept under wraps, but it’s said to be a “pivotal role.” Perhaps she will be the latest target of the Four Horseman? Original cast members Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, and Morgan Freeman are expected to reprise their roles. It was also announced last month that Justice Smith (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves), Dominic Sessa (The Holdovers), and Ariana Greenblatt (Borderlands) would be joining the project.
Now You See Me 3 will reintroduce audiences to “the thieving illusionists known as the Four Horseman while introducing audiences to a new generation of magicians.“ The studio is also envisioning the sequel as the launching pad for the future of the franchise.

A New O.J. Movie Stars the Controversial Charlotte Kirk (But Definitely Not Owen Wilson)
Hey, Hollywood, anybody interested in a partially finished film about how O.J. Simpson might have been innocent? One that stars Charlotte Kirk — the English actress best known for her previous role in taking down moguls Kevin Tsujihara and Ron Meyer in a 2019 sex scandal — as Nicole Brown Simpson? If yes, this is your lucky day. According to British director Joshua Newton, about 30 minutes of The Juice (originally titled Nicole and O.J.) is in the can, mostly flashback scenes featuring Kirk and German-born actor Boris Kodjoe, currently on ABC’s Station 19, who plays the late NFL star turned acquitted murderer. Newton, who has been working on this “satirical thriller” since 2015, says the picture’s main plotline involves a real-life attorney named Douglas McCann who got sucked into various conspiracy theories during Simpson’s 1995 criminal trial.

Guy Ritchie has directed everything from low-budget hits like the crime caper "Snatch" to the $1 billion monster hit that was 2019's live-action "Aladdin" remake. But the director has also been behind some pretty big misfires, most notably 2017's "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword." Ritchie has been on a tear lately though, releasing three movies in theaters over the last 13 months. Unfortunately for the filmmaker and all involved, every single one of those movies has disappointed -- if not outright flopped -- at the box office.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa and Ariana Greenblatt have joined the ensemble cast. Their roles, like the film’s plot, is still being kept under wraps, but one would imagine they might play a new generation of magicians.
Eisenberg seems to be on board and the previous films’ cast, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson and Morgan Freeman are also expected to reprise their roles, but this hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.
Now You See Me 3 will be released by Lionsgate.

Take-Two Interactive will be cutting the company’s workforce by 5 percent as part of a broader cost-reduction plan.
The plan, which was approved by the board of directors of the video game publisher Tuesday, also includes eliminating “several projects in development” and “streamlining its organizational structure,” leading to the layoffs. The company expects to bring in $165 million in cost savings.
The company did not name the projects to be eliminated. Take-Two Ineractive had 11,580 full-time employees as of March 2023.
The company will also incur between $160 million to $200 million in total charges in connection with the plan. The plan is expected to be completed by Dec. 31, 2024.
The company, which acquired mobile game publisher Zynga in 2022, is also home to popular game franchises such as Grand Theft Auto, NBA 2K, WWE 2K and Red Dead.
In late March, the video game publisher struck a definitive agreement with Embracer Group to acquire The Gearbox Entertainment Co.

The Layoff trend continues to spread as Take-Two Interactive announced their plans to cut headcount. Hopefully, this won’t affect GTA 6‘s development as there are rumors that the move may affect several projects. The industry has been hit hard recently with the likes of Microsoft, Sony, Embracer, and more, cutting a large number of jobs.
Rockstar Games, the subsidiary of Take-Two, is currently working on Grand Theft Auto 6 which is said to arrive at some point next year. However, the news is that it too is likely to get delayed after the decision was made. The game has already been through a rocky road as far as the development is concerned, including Arion Kurtaj’s doing.
It’s a Tough Time for the Gaming Industry as the Layoff Trend Continues Take-Two Interactive is laying 5% of its workforce across its portfolio.
The Internet has been swarming from the debates surrounding Take-Two’s decisions.
