Five years after its finale, Game of Thrones is still considered the most groundbreaking fantasy series of our time, and only another brainchild of HBO, a series based on the Harry Potter universe, can compete with GoT for this title, but it is still in the early stages of development.
However, if you are tired of waiting for a new show, but want to feel something in the spirit of Hogwarts, then we have a suitable option for you. But a more explicit one.

The search for the next "Suits" has begun! Aaron Korsh's legal drama series gained a whole new lease on life in 2023 thanks to Netflix, becoming the year's most-streamed show and giving USA Network's loyal middle-aged target demographic a reason to fist pump in vindication. The only question now is, what lucky show will follow in its footsteps? Surprisingly, an unlikely candidate has emerged in the form of "Resident Alien," a genre-blending cult favorite that's currently in the process of airing its third season on Syfy.
Anchored by fan-favorite performer and voice actor extraordinaire Alan Tudyk (the man who clucked his way into audiences' hearts as Heihei in "Moana" and wooed his own butt as Clayface in "Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine's Day Special"), "Resident Alien" has managed to climb its way into Netflix's Top 10 in the U.S. According to the streaming viewership aggregator FlixPatrol, it was...

Attica and Tembi Locke are re-teaming for another TV series.
The siblings, who already adapted Tembi’s memoir as the Netflix series From Scratch, have signed an overall deal with Universal Television and set up their first project under the pact: an adaptation of Attica’s novel Bluebird, Bluebird.
The drama, which does not yet have a network/platform attached, revolves around Darren Mathews, a Black Texas Ranger who is deeply ambivalent about growing up Black in the lone star state and was the first in his family to get as far away from Texas as he could — until duty called him home.
The Lockes will co-write and exec produce the series alongside Richard Abate, Jermaine Johnson and Will Rowbotham for 3 Arts Entertainment.
“From our first meeting with Universal Television, we felt instant creative alignment,” said Attica and Tembi Locke. “As authors, we understand storytelling across different formats and platforms.

It’s Frasier Week at IndieWire. Grab some tossed salad and scrambled eggs, settle into your coziest easy chair, and join us. We’re listening.
Hey baby, do you hear the blues a-calling? We do! It’s been 30 years, but we still can’t get enough of “Frasier.” Luckily for us, there’s more “Frasier” on the horizon! Not many could have predicted that a “Cheers” spinoff about a lovably pompous psychiatrist unable to take his own advice would have been such a success, but it works, and more than that, it’s magic.
Part of the sitcom’s charm is that Frasier, as played by Kelsey Grammer, is routinely fallible. He’s pretentious, nitpicky, and status-obsessed, so we love to see him fall on his face. What’s unique about Frasier is that it’s never because of the fact he’s smart that he gets tripped up. It’s his pretention,...

There’s a joke in the fourth episode of the Paramount+ revival of Frasier that is not the worst to be found in this new take on Kelsey Grammer’s famous psychiatrist Frasier Crane, because there are unfortunately a lot of bad ones to choose from. But it typifies the biggest problem the new show has.
Frasier has joined his new Harvard colleagues Alan (Nicholas Lyndhurst) and Olivia (Toks Olagundoye) for a night of bar trivia, competing against a team of firefighters led by Frasier’s son, Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott). At one point,...

“30 years ago, I left Boston with my tail between my legs. I had dreams of returning, triumphant. Now, those dreams just keep slipping farther and farther away.”
Paramount+’s “Frasier” reboot is psychiatrist Frasier Crane’s (Kelsey Grammer) latest reinvention. He first reinvented himself when he left Boston for his hometown of Seattle (spinning off from “Cheers” to his own original series). Then he did it again when he left Seattle for Chicago to be with the woman he loved, in the series finale of “Frasier.” 19 years after the original series ended, Frasier Crane is reinventing himself once again. This time, back in Boston, with a new career in academics and a new role as a present father to his (now adult) son Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott).
If your question regarding a “Frasier” revival isn’t simply “Why?” then it’s surely “Why now?” The late 2010s saw the floodgates open...

Evangeline and Bring It On: Cheer or Die director Karen Lam drew inspiration from Japanese films in general and an experimental silent film called Pages of Madness in particular when crafting her horror movie The Curse of Willow Song – and it seems to have turned out pretty well, as Fangoria reminds us that The Curse of Willow Song won the Best British Columbia Film award when it premiered at the Vancouver International Film Festival way back in 2020. Now the film is finally making its way to DVD and digital, thanks to Uncork’d Entertainment, and a trailer can be seen in the embed above.
The DVD and digital release is scheduled for September 26th.
The Curse of Willow Song has the following synopsis: Willow Song, a recovering addict and parolee, struggles to start over. Willow finds herself in a concrete wasteland. Facing isolation and displacement, shadows creep into Willow’s mind...

There have certainly been musical moments in “Star Trek” before: Uhura sang while Spock played his lyre in “The Original Series”; Data and Picard duet to Gilbert and Sullivan in “Insurrection”; James Darren played a holographic nightclub singer on “Deep Space Nine.” But it took “Strange New Worlds,” the critically revered Paramount+ series nearing the end of its second season, to stage an entire musical episode.
In “Subspace Rhapsody,” Anson Mount’s Capt. Pike falls to his knees singing an emo song to his girlfriend (somewhat embarrassingly in front of everybody on the bridge of the Enterprise); Paul Wesley’s Kirk strikes a Donny Osmond-esque pose; Jess Bush’s Nurse Chapel is hoisted aloft on her back like Satine in “Moulin Rouge!”; Ethan Peck’s Spock croons about his heartbreak; Christina Chong’s La’an gets her own Howard Ashman-style “I want!” song; and actual Grammy-winning singer/Broadway...

Spoiler Alert: This story discusses plot — and musical! — developments in Season 2, Episode 9 of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” currently streaming on Paramount+.
Since premiering in 2022, “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” has already embraced body-swapping comedy, storybook fantasy and a crossover episode with the animated series “Star Trek: Lower Decks.” So perhaps it’s not surprising that for the penultimate episode for Season 2 of “Strange New Worlds,” executive producers Henry Alonso Myers and Akiva Goldsman would mount the first-ever full-on musical episode in “Trek” history.
Entitled “Subspace Rhapsody,” the episode opens with the crew of the Enterprise investigating one of those deliciously nerdy “Trek” inventions: a naturally occurring fold in subspace. When Ens. Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) suggests using scanning the phenomenon with music to test its properties, the signal instead causes a tear in space-time that plunges the crew into an alternate reality in which everyone starts singing out their...

As the Writers Guild-amtpt standoff hits double digits, Deadline’s Strike Talk podcast host Billy Ray focuses on a topic as important as his masterful recent conversation with AI. Writers rooms are the pipelines of talent that turn rookies into showrunners, the ones that make billions for studios and networks with hit shows.
On this week’s Episode 10, Billy Ray hears the stories of Courtney Kemp (The Good Wife and creator of the Power Universe), Nkechi Okoro Carroll (All American), Sera Gamble and Greg Berlanti to learn how growing up in a writers room turned them into the prolific profit-generating superstars they are today. And why gutting those rooms to save a few bucks is a shortsighted strategy that will disturb the creative ecosystem. The one that hatches top talent that makes profitable hit shows.

NBC has taken the axe to two of its veteran comedies: Young Rock and Grand Crew have both been cancelled, TVLine has learned. “No decision has been made” on the fate of American Auto, however, the network notes.
Young Rock, which ran for three seasons, followed the life and career of wrestling-turned-movie star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson across several decades, including his humble beginnings as a headstrong kid nicknamed “Dewey,” his college years playing football and the early days of his professional wrestling career. Additionally, Johnson played a fictional version of himself who ran for president in the 2032 election. Season...

"House of the Dragon" managed to somewhat ease people's reservations about "Game of Thrones" after that show's horrendous final season. What's not to like about a harrowing tale of backstabbing and political intrigue about people in power who fight over petty things like a fancy title, a shiny crown, and a very uncomfortable chair, all while their subjects suffer regardless of who is in charge?
Unfortunately, in rather shocking, out of the left field, absolutely unpredictable news (note the heavy sarcasm), it appears the people in charge of "House of the Dragon" are disregarding the current Writers Guild of America strike, and thinking only about profit and power, with no care for their subjects. Co-creator and executive producer George R. R. Martin confirms the dragons are crossing the picket line, and "House of the Dragon" is set to still film season 2.

When “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” emerged in 2017 as a pilot for Amazon’s Prime Video, I wrote it was a look at “neurosis, nutty family dynamics, comedy laced with heartache — my new favorite show. I would binge watch the series right now — but there’s only the pilot!”
Now, as we welcome the show’s fifth and final season, which premieres Friday, April 14, I’m carrying a lot of baggage, all matched and color-coordinated.
What can you say about Rachel Brosnahan’s breakout standup Miriam “Midge” Maisel and creator Amy Sherman-Palladino? They got it right — and then some, with 20 Emmys and 66 nominations to back up their success.

Netflix has set a spring premiere date for The Diplomat, a political thriller drama series starring Keri Russell. The eight-episode, one-hour series will launch April 20 on the streamer.
Created by Debora Cahn, The Diplomat is a high-stakes, contemporary political drama about the transcendence and torture of long-term relationships between countries and people. It centers on Kate Wyler (Russell), the new U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom. She was supposed to go to Afghanistan. She’s great in a crisis zone. In a historic home … less so. War is brewing on one continent and boiling over on another. Kate will have to defuse international crises, forge strategic alliances in London and adjust to her new place in the spotlight — all while trying to survive her marriage to fellow career diplomat and political star Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell).
David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear and Ato Essandoh also star.

When Sterlin Harjo sold “Reservation Dogs” to FX, he didn’t quite know what a showrunner was. “I remember calling a showrunner friend of mine and asking, ‘Am I supposed to be like holding meetings?’ There’s no template. It’s not laid out for you. Really, I was just going off instinct.”
But Harjo soon realized that running his own show was a lot like what he’d been doing for years in independent film. Harjo was a regular fixture at the Sundance Film Festival, where his short “Goodnight Irene” premiered in 2005. That led to his first feature, “Four Sheets to the Wind,” which debuted at Sundance in 2007, followed by “Barking Water.” From there, Harjo directed the documentary “This May Be the Last Time,” which tells the story of the disappearance of his grandfather.

Oh, baby... I hear the blues a-callin’. And it’s not just me: hundreds of thousands of Frasier Crane fans have started singing the same song. It’s been that way ever since the revival of the hit Seattle-set sitcom was announced, intensifying as it became clear that no one, bar Kelsey Grammer, would be returning. Instead, the Frasier reboot, expected to premiere on Paramount Plus later this year, will drop Grammer’s finicky psychiatrist into a different milieu, alongside a completely new cast. As far as gambles go, it’s a big, potentially legacy-tarnishing one, which many people have already dismissed out of hand. There’s one question almost nobody seems to be asking: what if they actually pull it off?

Freddy, my boy, will now have a new face on “Frasier.”
The beloved Emmy-winning NBC sitcom landed a revival at Paramount+, headed up by lead star Kelsey Grammer. However, while much of the original cast will not be part of the reboot, Deadline confirmed that some characters will be recast. Frasier Crane’s (Grammer) son Frederick will no longer be played by Trevor Einhorn, but instead portrayed by Jack Cutmore-Scott.
Cutmore-Scott as Freddy will also have a very different trajectory for Frasier’s son, blending traits from both his father Frasier and grandfather Martin (the late John Mahoney). His mother Lilith (Bebe Neuwirth) will not be a part of the series as of print.
The official character description for the adult Freddy reads: Charming and handsome, Frasier’s son Freddy is a nuanced combination of his father and grandfather. Years ago, Freddy rejected following in his father’s footsteps—dropping...

Witches are more than just gingerbread-loving, black hat-wearing, broomstick-flying creatures of chaos and evil. While there are plenty of on-screen witches that still have questionable morals, there are just as many with a more nuanced backstory. But just because there are more “good” witches out there, doesn’t mean that these magic wielders are any less formidable. Witches have always been a force to be reckoned with on screen, and if anything, their desire to help others, make up for past mistakes, or protect their family makes them even more powerful and intimidating.
The following witches from TV and movies come from a wide variety of worlds and backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common – they are complete and total badasses. Every single witch on this list would make a worthy and powerful ally, but good luck to anyone who dares to cross them.

Netflix subscribers looking to save some money now have the option to sign up for a cheaper, ad-supported tier. The Basic with Ads plan costs 6.99 per month rather than 9.99 for the basic plan without ads, and gives subscribers access to a decent amount of the streaming service’s extensive library. However, according to Variety and GameSpot, there are a number of TV shows and movies that unfortunately aren’t available to watch for people subscribing to Netflix’s newest tier.
Netflix’s Chief Operating Officer Greg Peters did tell reporters back in October that a “limited number of movies and TV shows won’t be available due to licensing restrictions, and [Netflix is] going to be working on reducing that over time,” but even with the new tier launching Nov. 3, Netflix still hasn’t released an official list showing what is and isn’t available to its Basic with Ads subscribers. Because of this,...

Netflix has finally rolled out its first ad-tier subscription known as Basic with Ads, but the library has a few missing titles among its ranks. When the streamer announced the plan in October, there was a mention that certain series and films wouldn’t be available due to “licensing restrictions,” but it wasn’t clear what shows or movies would be among the casualties until now. While it would make sense for some fan-favorite shows to be excluded, it may surprise viewers to know that several Netflix original series aren’t available with this plan. Arrested Development (Credit: Netflix) Among the series that are unavailable to Basic with Ad subscribers is House of Cards, Peaky Blinders, Arrested Development, The Good Place, Friday Night Lights, New Girl, The Last Kingdom, The Magicians, Good Girls, and The Sinner. Considering House of Cards, Peaky Blinders, The Last Kingdom, and Arrested Development are Netflix titles,...
