A little over one decade after delivering their bold and blood-soaked entry of the Evil Dead franchise, director/co-writer Fede Alvarez and co-writer Rodo Sayagues are bringing their scary good talents to a place where no one can hear you scream in 20th Century Studios' new film Alien: Romulus, and the offical trailer and poster have now been unveiled ahead of the movie's anticipated August 16th theatrical release, offering a chilling look at plenty of Facehugger frights and Xenomorph mayhem:
“Alien: Romulus” takes the phenomenally successful “Alien” franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe. The film stars Cailee Spaeny (“Civil War”), David Jonsson (“Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy”), Archie Renaux (“Shadow and Bone”), Isabela Merced (“The Last of Us”), Spike Fearn (“Aftersun”), Aileen Wu.

Fallout launched two months ago with a big question hovering over it — could another postapocalyptic streaming drama based on a video game also become a hit after the success of HBO’s The Last of Us? Any doubts were quickly erased, with Fallout racking up a 92 percent average positive review score on Rotten Tomatoes and breaking Prime Video streaming records with its sprawling tale of three very different survivors (played by Ella Purnell, Aaron Clifton Moten and Walton Goggins) navigating a nuclear wasteland amid moments of graphic violence and off-beat humor.

As promised. 20th Century Studios has released the first full-length trailer for Alien: Romulus. If Prometheus and Alien: Covenant's heavy sci-fi themes weren't your thing, get ready for a gore-filled horror fest with Evil Dead helmer Fede Álvarez clearly holding nothing back here.
While it's clear the filmmaker wasn't kidding when he talked about pulling inspiration from both Alien and Aliens, this feels more like a terrifying horror movie than an action-packed adventure.
Along the way, we see Facehuggers, chestbursters, and the iconic acid-spewing Xenomorph as this latest crew of soon-to-be-dead meat attempts to fend off an invasion from within. Needless to say, the sneak peek is red-band and isn't for the faint of heart.
"My first instinct, just to try something different that hasn’t been seen before, was to approach it from the angle of characters who are not professionals or scientists; they’re not even adults,...

As we've previously discussed, this summer movie season is surprisingly light on franchise fare.
That's partially due to the strikes that shut down Hollywood for much of the year, and partially due to the fact that superhero flicks just aren't packing 'em in like they used to.
But if you're a fan of sequels and nostalgia, fear not! Ridley Scott's Alien saga will be returning to theaters in August!
Yes, Alien: Romulus is set for release on August 16.
Scott is still on board as executive producer, but there's a new writer-director at the helm in the form of Evil Dead and Don't Breathe horror-meister Fede Alvarez.
Earlier today, 20th Century Studios dropped a press release, along with a trailer that's giving us some serious heebie-jeebies.

If you’ve ever played Yakuza (Like a Dragon), then you know how much the game is like a movie or TV show. According to the press release, the show will have six episodes and will be about crime and action. It will tell a new story based on the first Yakuza game from 2005. It’s about Kazuma Kiryu, who used to be in the yakuza. We all remember that he had to go to prison for his sworn brother, which caused a lot of strife in the organization. The first full-length trailer for for Alien: Romulus will be released tomorrow and to build excitement for that, we have a nightmare-inducting poster putting a Facehugger (and its victim) front and centre.
It's a horrifying piece of imagery and one which suggests horror director Fede Álvarez intends to embrace the sci-fi franchise's horror roots. However, as much as he's been inspired by Alien, the filmmaker is also taking his cues from Aliens.
"To ask an Alien fan to choose between them is a perverse question," he recently told Empire Online (via SFFGazette.com). "So I thought, 'How do I do both?'"
"There’s a moment where the characters are walking around areas familiar from the Nostromo," says Álvarez. "Then they cross through that building and on the other side: boom! You’re in a hallway that looks like Hadley’s Hope [from Aliens]."

Troy Baker is one of the most prominent voice actors in video games, having voiced Joel Miller in The Last of Us and Booker DeWitt in BioShock Infinite. Baker was part of Hideo Kojima’s final game for Konami, Metal Gear Solid V, playing Revolver Ocelot. The lead voice actor in the game was replaced by a film actor. When Baker was asked about it, he shared that he wasn’t worried about film actors taking over video game roles.

David Hayter, who played Solid Snake in the previous installments, was removed from Metal Gear Solid V without notice. He was replaced by Kiefer Sutherland as Kojima believed he could also bring the subtle facial movements required for the character.

Reports that Max was highly likely to raise its subscription costs first began to circulate in early May.
Max is just days away from the release of its second season of “House of the Dragon,” which is expected to drive huge numbers for the streaming service. Given that fact, and how opportunistic Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has proven to be, it’s hardly surprising that Max appears poised to roll out a price increase this month. Some customers have already received notice that their subscription rate is going up, and it’s essentially guaranteed that more Max subscribers will get news about their costs rising before the week is out.
Key Details: Viewers who receive their Max subscription through Verizon have been notified their price is increasing starting on their next bill. The increase affects Max’s ad-free plan and will see the cost rise by $1 per month...

Fans have been waiting to see some more footage from Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus since the release of the chilling first teaser, and we now have an update on the full trailer for the iconic sci-fi horror franchise's return to the big screen.

In addition, Empire has shared a new official still featuring Cailee Spaeny as Rain Carradine and David Jonsson as her android foster brother, Andy.

Naughty Dog, the team that made the really liked The Last of Us games, is telling fans that they are working on more than one new game that is different from The Last of Us. Personally, I think this is great because Naughty Dog is known for its storytelling and universes. Staying in one franchise keeps us from seeing others flourish.
According to an interview with the LA Times, Neil Druckmann, the boss of the studio, just said that Naughty Dog is working on many games. This is especially true for those where you play alone, and the story and characters are really important. This matches what the studio did before, like The Last of Us and Uncharted.

Bethesda Studio announced on May 30th that Fallout 76 has surpassed a huge milestone. The game crossed the 20 million players mark which is huge, and an achievement not even the popular game The Last of Us was able to achieve.
In today’s gaming industry, where competition is very fierce and players have a plethora of games to try out, this achievement is remarkable. But what made it even more impressive was not just the number, but the context of how they got to this stage.

Arguably the most popular video game voice actor out there, Troy Baker has one of the most unique portfolios in the industry. On one hand, he has starred in epic video-game series such as The Last of Us, Uncharted, and Death Stranding.

Mel has been given the title of the most hated character in The Last of Us Part II, largely due to the choices she makes along her journey. On accord with her independent nature and stubbornness, she endangered herself and her unborn child by traveling to the aquarium, through areas not controlled by the Wlf, where eventually she met her demise at the hands of Ellie.

Mel wanted to leave with Owen and others to Santa Barbara, California, leaving Abby behind. She feared Abby’s intention of regaining Owen’s favor and interfering with her relationship. She was caught off guard by Ellie while she stood arguing with Owen about leaving Abby behind and starting their life afresh, but that eventually ended her life.

In a surprising turn of events, the Just Cause franchise is reportedly getting a film adaptation, and whilst it may be one of the most obvious to adapt to the big screen, it’s been so quiet gaming-wise for the franchise, that many never expected it to happen.
Original franchise creator Christopher Sundberg weighed in on X, speaking to the irony of the film’s potential existence.

Days Gone 2 is another game that is on top of the wishlist of every other PlayStation fan but the man behind the zombie project has some news that will crush any dreams for a sequel. Director Jeff Ross confirmed the franchise is dead in the water and won’t be revived soon.
The recent State of Play has kicked the hornet’s nest and there are still some optimistic fans out there hoping for a sequel. Ross has some strong words about the present leadership that would cast doubt on his vision to be fully realized and be left in the basement of Sony forever.

The 2024 PlayStation State of Play Showcase was broadcast on May 31, 2024. Most fans considered the entire showcase lukewarm. The showcase lineup featured 14 titles, including God of War Ragnarok. The title is not getting new content; it is getting a port on PC instead.
However, apart from this repeated title, fans are questioning other choices Sony made with their lineup. The showcase had not one but two live-service Overwatch Style PvP shooters. Given how redundant that is, it seems like the studio is running short on novel ideas.
Hero Shooters Seem Like the Latest Fad as Sony Reveals Marvel Rivals and Concord at 2024’s State of Play Not one but two Overwatch clones in a showcase is deplorable.

Helldivers 2 was a great surprise from Arrowhead Game Studios and Sony Interactive Entertainment. The gaming community immediately fell in love with the live game, flaws and all, and was finally viewed in the same league as other major PlayStation franchises in a new banner.
Director Johan Pilestedt once mentioned it was his dream for his project to be recognized in the same caliber of quality despite being a live service game. The inclusion on the banner signifies that Sony has achieved the same success on multiplayer games as single-player titles.

This is a dream come true for the director after briefly mentioning his aspiration of Helldivers 2 joining other PlayStation all-timer exclusives like The Last of Us and God of War franchises developed by first-party studios.

God of War Ragnarok was a sequel to the hit 2018 reboot. The game was launched for the PS4 and the PS5 in 2022. During Sony’s 2024 State of Play Showcase, the game has also been confirmed to launch on PC.
The showcase began with the announcement and a reveal of Concord, an upcoming live-service first-person hero shooter; neither title stood out in the showcase lineup. The clear winner in the lineup was Ballad of Antara, which certainly seems promising.
God of War Ragnarok’s PC Port Overshadowed by Ballad of Antara The game is being developed by Tipsworks Studio and will be published by Infold Games.
One of the announcements made during the State of Play 2024 broadcast was that Ragnarok was coming to PC in September. The showcase was mostly underwhelming for fans as they there weren’t any announcements made by Sony, probably because the PS5 is in the later stage of its lifecycle.

The history of Hollywood adapting video games in movies and TV shows has been a little spotty, to say the least, but in recent years, I think the tide has been turning. With shows like The Last of Us and Fallout, video game fans have developed a little hope to see their favorite adapted into a great piece of art and while there will still be wasted efforts like Netflix’s The Witcher and Paramount+’s Halo, they are still only two shows. So, in keeping with that spirit of hope we created a list of the 10 best TV shows that were adapted from video games, they can be original stories in the world of video games but they have to be connected to the original IP.

Uncharted is one of the most memorable and beloved role-playing action-adventure series in the gaming industry. The Series has 4 titles that blend together and complete the story of Nathan Drake, the main protagonist of the game. Realism in gaming has reached a whole new level, as video game deaths aren’t just walking into a small chasm and popping up from the checkpoint again, unharmed. From Call of Duty to Mortal Kombat death isn’t pretty in there. It can be gut-wrenching and may lead anyone to say, ‘That was cruel’.

Some of the kills may even cause players to induce mercy, even though they have developed hatred towards a character. At the time of writing this, Sony has just announced the PlayStation State of Play for May 2024. With the summer showcase season, just around the corner, it will be interesting to see how Sony lays out their upcoming slate for the next few years.
Add to that the fact that this is Sony’s time to really shine and show everyone why PlayStation is king. With Xbox failing to deliver the goods as of late, and a lack of first party PS5 titles confirmed, now seems like the perfect time for the PlayStation State of Play to drop.
So below, each member of the FandomWire Gaming team has made a prediction for what they expect to see during the event respectively. I will list these below followed by a bit of commentary on how likely I believe each prediction is:

That was fast. Just five days ago, it was announced that Jeffrey Wright, whose credits include American Fiction, Westworld, Basquiat, Shaft, The Batman, and multiple James Bond and Hunger Games movies, was joining the cast of season 2 of the HBO series adaptation of the video game The Last of Us to play a character named Isaac. A character Wright provided the vocal performance for when he appeared in the video game The Last of Us Part II. A long-awaited video game adaptation now has new life. Universal Pictures has officially boarded the "Just Cause" movie, and the studio has some impressive talent behind the camera to make the project a reality. That starts with director Ángel Manuel Soto, best known for directing the DC superhero movie "Blue Beetle." The project has also added "The Fall Guy" director David Leitch and his producing partner (and wife) Kelly McCormick on board as producers with their company, 87North.
Universal has a longstanding relationship with Leitch, as the filmmaker made "Hobbs & Shaw" for the studio before stepping behind the camera for "The Fall Guy." He also very nearly directed the new "Jurassic World" film before Gareth Edwards took over. 87North has a first-look deal with the studio, so this partnership makes sense. Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson are also on board as producers. As for Soto,...

The Last of Us has been people’s favorite for over a decade. The TV adaptation of the game was released in 2023, which enabled non-gamers to experience the world of The Last of Us. Troy Baker is a well-established and popular voice actor known for his brilliant portrayal of Joel in The Last of Us series. Baker’s great voice acting roles have gained him a massive fan following and also a great reputation in gaming communities.
Despite all of this success, when Baker was asked to step into the role of Nathan Drake’s brother, Sam in Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4: A Theif’s End, he knew that would be a significant and intimidating challenge even with his great resume.

On “House of the Dragon,” HBO’s fantasy epic that takes place two centuries before “Game of Thrones,” Matt Smith plays Daemon, a warrior prince who exists among fire-breathing reptiles and palace intrigue. But if his character were ever to leap deeper into the supernatural, Smith has some ideas about where he could go. “I think Daemon would make a really good vampire,” he says. “I can imagine him wandering the earth alone for all eternity.”
He certainly has the coloring: Pallid and platinum-blonde, Daemon looks as if he could have arrived in the forbidding and dark world of Westeros all the way from Transylvania. But he might be too hotblooded to play the vampire. And “House of the Dragon” — a prequel to the Emmy-gobbling, earth-shattering hit “Game of Thrones,” set during the reign of the incestuous Targaryen dynasty — is unlikely to pivot into creature horror.
