Sundance Institute’s Documentary Fund will be supporting 23 selected independent documentary film projects this year through grants totaling over $1 million. This initiative has previously funded notable films including Oscar-nominated features “Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution,” “Minding the Gap” and “The Edge of Democracy.”
In addition to shrinking budgets for commissioned docuseries and one-offs, there has been a dramatic decline in distribution deals for indie docs, making the Sundance Institute grant vital to the nonfiction community. Especially to those filmmakers in the docu space working on social issue documentaries.
This year, the documentaries awarded grants explore a large breadth subject matters from around the world, telling stories about Indigenous People and Native Americans, transgender youth, secrets of a family’s lineage, people with disabilities and an untitled feature about Uvalde, Texas. Of the 23 films, six are in development, 14 are in production and three are in post-production.

Six weeks ago, Evan Glodell was in a funk. He’d made his filmmaking debut six years ago with micro-budget breakout “Bellflower,” in which he’d starred, written, directed, and produced through Coatwolf, his filmmaking collective. That film exploded at Sundance 2011, but now it seemed like all of his projects were stalled, again.
He wondered if he should have turned down an offer to wrangle VFX for Benh Zeitlin’s “Wendy,” another follow-up to a Sundance hit (“Beasts of the Southern Wild”) made by a filmmaking collective; unlike his Coatwolf projects, that one was successfully winding its way to completion.
Then suddenly, everything turned around. Coatwolf’s second film, “Chuck Hank and the San Diego Twins” produced, co-written, and starring Glodell, is close to locked and is ready for CAA to screen for buyers.
Their third, “Canary,” written, directed, produced, and starring Glodell, will hit the Cannes market to seek...

It’s judgment day for Phaedra Parks on The Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion, part three.
Et has your first look at the explosive installment, which finds host Andy Cohen asking Phaedra point-blank about her responsibility in starting the rumor that Kandi Burruss is a lesbian.
More: Kim Zolciak Biermann Reveals What It Would Take to Come Back to Rhoa Full-Time
“The question at the dinner was, did someone call Kandi a lesbian?” Phaedra says. “In order for her to be a lesbian, that would mean she is only sleeping with women, correct? I never said she was a lesbian.”
“You said she was sleeping with a woman,” Andy shoots back.
“That doesn’t mean you’re a lesbian!” Phaedra responds.
So, Phaedra’s defense seems to be semantics. While she never used the word “lesbian,” Phaedra did imply that Kandi and Shamea Morton were more than friends by using a sexuality suggestive hand gesture while talking...

Switched at Birth fans are very lucky the final season was able to feature the series’ landmark 100th episode. The series chose to mark this milestone in two important ways. The first is, of course, the return of Gilles Marini as Bay and Daphne’s deceased father Angelo. It’s left up to interpretation if his return is in his daughter’s heads, or if his spirit is actually guiding them in a very visceral way one last time. Secondly, the episode is directed by series regular Lea Thompson. Only someone who has lived with this story since the beginning could have told

It would probably be fair to say that pretty much everyone got something out of the horror genre in 2014. For the film buffs and critics there was The Babadook and Willow Creek. For those loving slow-burning chillers there was Under the Skin and The Guest. For those seeking a slice of jet-black comedy with their main course of gore there was Life After Beth and Horns. And for those who harbored schlock Z-movie horror as a guilty pleasure – there was, er, Zombeavers.
2015 also saw some of the big guns weigh in with new doses of bloodshed – including Eli Roth returning with The Green Inferno, and Ti West’s The Sacrament – and a fresh, sinister franchise apparently emerged with the release of the dread-dominated Oculus back in the summer. Even a couple of independent gory gems like Nurse were unearthed.

Seven years into its run, everyone knows that E!’s signature show should have long ago been renamed Keeping Up With Kim…and the Other Ones. But there are still three other Kardashians--and a total of eight Jenners--making cameo appearances and the occasional headline.
That’s why we’ve launched a new, hopefully annual list guaranteed to settle all your family holiday squabbles. Here is the first-ever Definitive Power Ranking of Kardashians and Jenners.*
1. Kim Kardashian

It doesn’t matter if Kourtney and Khloe take the Hamptons, Miami and South Korea, for that matter--ratings-wise, they’ll never come close to touching their sister’s sizzle. And yet, in the world outside of reality TV, Kim’s appeal is evidently still underestimated and--according to Forbes, at least --drastically undervalued.

Rick Ross goes old school on the newest track to emerge from his forthcoming “Mastermind” album, “Nobody.” Inspired by Notorious B.I.G.’s “Life After Death” classic “You’re Nobody (Til Somebody Kills You),” Rozay gains authenticity from guest Diddy, who appeared on and produced the 1997 original. Listen to “Nobody” below. The dark, murder ballad draws its beat and hook from Biggie’s original and opens with Diddy giving a vintage Bad Boy-era pep talk. French Montana enters on the hook, delivering the line “You’re Nobody (Til Somebody Kills You)” with a touch of sadness, at which point Ross begins his bars about “murder rate rises.” The throwback even goes as far as to credit Diddy under his former moniker Puff Daddy. Under his current name, Diddy is credited as the executive producer of Ross’ entire “Mastermind” album, which drops March 4. Check out the newly surfaced deluxe edition “Mastermind” tracklist below the song.

The timing was coincidental, but it made a lot of sense for Howard Stern to throw his massive 60th birthday concert at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom right around the same time as the Golden Globes, the State of the Union, the Super Bowl and the Grammys. In many ways, the evening felt like a combination of all those events: It had the all-star musical collaborations of the Grammys, the random grouping of A-list celebrities eating and drinking together that you usually only see at the Golden Globes, the chants, crazily-coveted...

Sundance Institute announced today the films selected for the U.S. and World Cinema Dramatic and Documentary Competitions and the out-of-competition section of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, January 16-26 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah.
Robert Redford, President & Founder of Sundance Institute said, “That the Festival has evolved and grown as it has over the past 30 years is a credit to both our audiences and our artists, who continue to find ways to take risks and open our minds to the power of story. This year’s films and artists promise to do the same.”
For the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, 118 feature-length films were selected, representing 37 countries and 54 first-time filmmakers, including 34 in competition. These films were selected from 12,218 submissions (72 more than for 2013), including 4,057 feature-length films and 8,161 short films. Normally, I'd skip over stuff like this, but it's Friday... and we have covered the Janet Hubert/Fresh Prince of Bel Air controversy before. I think we are all somewhat familiar with the public battle between Janet Hubert, Will Smith and NBC, that led to the recasting of the role of Aunt Vivian, in The Fresh Prince of Bel Air's fourth season, in the mid-1990s. And given that she continues to talk about it, it's clear that Janet Hubert is still very much, shall we say, pissed off about the incident. You may recall about 3 years ago in her appearance in TV One's series titled Life After, in which Hubert aimed to set the record straight...

The cast and producers of "Community" gathered for the fourth year in a row at Paleyfest to share insight into what began as a tumultuous Season 4, and the unsure future that is Season 5. Here are the highlights:
History 101

The highlight was an epic tango between Joel McHale and Jim Rash, that exposed "so much butt crack" to the Yvette Nicole Brown and the rest of the cast still situated behind the table. Stay tuned for Hulu to post video from the panel. Zap2it will embed it here once it's live.

Just because Andy Samberg plays Adam Sandler's son in "That's My Boy" doesn't mean the latest graduate of "Saturday Night Live" is following in the Happy Madison hero's footsteps. The 33-year-old is definitely forging his own funnyguy path.
For starters, Samberg left the NBC mainstay of his own, albeit quiet, accord, opting to say farewell to the show after seven years with simply a pair of digital shorts. Secondly, he's keeping one foot on the small screen. Following promotions for "That's My Boy," he's heading to the U.K. to work on a show for the BBC.
Still, working on a film with Sandler – the first of three, with "Hotel Transylvania" and "Grown Ups 2" to come – feels like a strong start to a solid film career. Could an "SNL" spin-off flick like "Shy Ronnie" be far behind?
Adam Sandler has done so many movies and you guys both started in "Saturday Night Live.
