Erika Slezak, known for her longstanding role as Viki on ABC‘s One Life To Live, mourns the death of her daughter, Amanda Davies, who played a younger version of Viki on the show years prior. “It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of Erika’s daughter Amanda Elizabeth Davies, who died very suddenly,” a post on Slezak’s official website reads. “The family is heartbroken and would appreciate privacy at this time.” Davies was born in 1981, a year after her brother Michael, to parents Brian Davies and Slezak. She is known for playing a teenage version of the alum’s character in flashback scenes in 2003. This was her only on-screen role outside of a short called The Gift and a couple of portrayals as herself on Soapography and the soap star biography Intimate Portrait. Former official White House photographer Pete Souza shot close to two million photographs of then-President Barack Obama during his eight years in office — and they weren’t all cute candids with kids.
In his new book, Obama: An Intimate Portrait, Souza reveals that one of his hardest days on the job was also what he described as “the worst day” of Obama’s presidency: December 14, 2012, when 20 first-grade students and six staff members died in the shooting massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
“ affected me in a profound way that no other situation in the eight years did.

Beyoncé shook our souls when she showed up to the MTV VMAs with her 4-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, on Sunday. The singer, who is nominated for 11 awards and was rumored to be performing during the show for weeks, popped up at Madison Square Garden looking like a her usual fierce self in a Francesco Scognamiglio feathered gown covered in crystals, while Blue wore a fluffy princess dress complete with wings; the mother-daughter duo also sported matching braids and walked the carpet with a posse of Lemonade stars, including her artists Chloe and Halle Bailey, model Winnie Harlow, and the mothers of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown. While MTV confirmed news of Beyoncé hitting the stage hours before the show - though most of us in the Beyhive had a feeling she would be gracing us with her presence - Blue Ivy's adorable guest appearance was one we didn't see coming.

Over the River and Through the Woods: Fliegauf Explores Intimate Portrait of Abuse Cycles
Hungarian auteur Bence Fliegauf returns with his first film since 2012’s Just the Wind, which picked up the Grand Jury Prize at the Berlinale, an emotionally taxing film concerning racial implications in the ruthless murder of several rural families. Known for his experimental flourishes and penchant for heavy material, the director begins in his comfortably downtrodden rhythm with his sixth feature, Lily Lane, an essay on nurtured cycles of familial abuse and the euphemistic nature of fairy tales as filter or escape from the clutches of a degraded existence. A refracted narrative unveils a troubled mother’s associations from her own childhood, hopelessly spilling into a present day predicament with her seven year old son. The result is a roundabout relay of psychological catharsis, at once frustrating and compelling.

Float On: Costa Laments Sister In Intimate Portrait
Petra Costa has been trying to process the suicide of her older sister for over two decades now. The young docu director’s first feature, Elena, is a loving postmortem tone poem addressed to the departed as if to publicly remind her sister of her worth and to confront her for her cowardice. Bearing all the emotional brutality that follows the passing of a loved one, Costa’s film wraps raw intimacy with ethereal imitation to bring her sister back to life with lucid verve as a continued celebration of her lasting impact. In life, Elena was a Brazilian dancer turned movie bound New Yorker, dead set on becoming a star. Following in her sister’s footsteps, Petra has taken up the camera, performs before it and let’s her voice lay elegantly aloft the starkly personal collage she’s constructed.

Tfe's Vivien Leigh Centennial Celebration (November 2-6)
Here's David with an interview and book giveaway
Vivien Leigh was only nominated for two Oscars, but she won both of them. More impressively, both of her winning performances are still frequently said to be among the finest of all-time. If she’d done nothing else in her career, that would be a legacy to be proud of. It’s even more extraordinary when you consider the personal struggles that the actress went through: constantly striving to feel worthy of acting alongside the love of her life, Sir Laurence Olivier, and an undiagnosed and mistreated bipolar disorder that increasingly overtook her. In Vivien Leigh: An Intimate Portrait, Leigh scholar Kendra Bean digs into the actress’ dramatic life story, using a myriad of photographs both legendary and rare to imbue Vivien’s life with the vulnerability of her delicate beauty.

Johnny Carson is returning to NBC — sort of.
NBC is developing a miniseries based on the life of the legendary Tonight Show host.
The project is based on the upcoming biography Carson the Magnificent: An Intimate Portrait by Bill Zehme. The story will cover Carson’s childhood growing up in Nebraska and his 30-year run as Tonight host, which concluded in 1992. The miniseries will also touch on “his often secluded off-camera life and friendships he made throughout his career as one of the most beloved TV personalities of all time,” NBC says.
The role of Carson, who passed away in 2005, has not yet been cast.

Lifetime's latest movie "Ring of Fire" told Johnny and June Carter Cash's love story, but from June's perspective.
Singer-songwriter Jewel took on the iconic role in "Ring of Fire," which used Cash's biggest hit as a main part of its plot.
"You wrote 'Ring of Fire' for me," Johnny (Matt Ross) says in the movie, which is based on Johnny and June's son's book, "Anchored in Love: An Intimate Portrait of June Carter Cash."
"I didn't write it for you. I wrote it about you. And hearing you sing it makes me proud," June replies.
The Washington Post says the biggest issue with "Ring of Fire" is that it followed the 2005 Johnny and June biopic, "Walk The Line." Emily Yahr wrote: "2005 wasn't that long ago. It's fresh enough in people's minds that anyone portraying Cash's famous second wife (as singer-songwriter Jewel does here) is going to be compared with Reese Witherspoon,...

Nostalgia is riding high these days in Hollywood, not just in the blockbuster-tentpole world, but also in the awards race -- the last two Best Picture awards winners were feel-good period pieces that struck gold with Academy voters. Now, with “Hitchcock” getting some Oscar buzz -- more new images from the Sacha Gervasi-helmed film are below -- the team behind the biopic has decided to tackle the life of another pop culture figure, Johnny Carson. “Hitchcock” producer Tom Thayer has gotten the approval of the Carson estate and the rights to Bill Zehme’s upcoming “Carson The Magnificent: An Intimate Portrait” and has the writer of the Gervasi film, John McLaughlin (“Black Swan”), penning the script. It’s surprising that it’s taken this long for a Carson biopic to materialize, but we’re guessing getting his estate involved was key. Once McLaughlin’s script is finished, Thayer will be shopping it around to.

Deadline reports that a film about the personal life of television legend Johnny Carson is currently in the works. The project comes from producer Tom Thayer and writer John McLaughlin, who recently teamed up to make the upcoming Hitchcock, a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Psycho. Early reviews of Hitchcock have been largely positive, which bodes well for Johnny Carson fans who are hoping to see the King of Late Night receive the big-screen portrayal he deserves.
The film will be based on the upcoming book Carson The Magnificent: An Intimate Portrait by Bill Zehme, the only journalist whom Carson spoke to after his retirement, and it will be interesting to see what revelations about Carson will be revealed by his friend and semi-confidant Zehme. After he retired from hosting The Tonight Show for thirty years, Carson avoided publicity, opting instead to lead an intensely private life away from the spotlight.

Writer John McLaughlin has covered some pretty wild topics in his career, but now he's set to tackle a biopic of the King of Late Night television.

Tucker for 'Intouchables' Remake, Anderson Preps 'Pompeii' and Nicholson Might Play Downey Jr.'s Dad
1.) Chris Tucker's supporting turn in Silver Linings Playbook is his first on-screen role in more than 5 years. Luckily, it sounds like we might not have to wait that long to see him again. The Weinstein Company is prepping an English-language remake of the French hit The Intouchables, and Tucker says he's in talks for one of the leads. "I've seen it and yes, I have been talking with them (producers) about doing it," he told Blackfilm. "I hope something will come out of it because I really like the movie and they are in the process of getting it together." The original earned France's Oscar entry this year and starred Francois Cluzet as a quadriplegic millionaire who hires an ex-con (Omar Sy) as his caretaker. At last check, Paul Fieg (Bridesmaids) was attached to direct, with Colin Firth in line for the Cluzet role. Sy won the Cesar (France's Oscar) for Best Actor,...

Seven years ago, Chuck Klosterman got it right when he said that there would never be another thing like “Johnny Carson.” The host of The Tonight Show was the last “universally shared icon,” and we’re now seeing even more compartmentalization as the sheer amount of culture we have access to grows. We’re moving further and further from the moment when Carson was universally known, let alone talked about regularly in the cultural conversation. For a bit of context, Selena Gomez was born the year he went off the air. So even if everyone in the 1970s knew about Johnny Carson, are there enough movie-goers left to demand that a movie about him get made? That’s the question that John McLaughlin and Tom Thayer (Hitchcock) are betting they know the answer to. According to Deadline Hollywood, the pair is working with the Carson Estate and will be shopping a biopic script to studios soon. Based...

With so many talk show hosts elbowing for our late night TV viewing attention — Jay and Dave and Jimmy and Jimmy and Craig and Conan and Jon and Stephen and Chelsea and Carson — it’s hard to remember that there was a time when there was just Johnny. For 30 years on The Tonight Show, Johnny Carson dominated the late night landscape along with his stalwart sidekick Ed McMahon, putting the nation to bed with a formula of monologue, celebrity interview, occasional skit, and musical guest that remains more-or-less intact to this day.

Although he was for decades a familiar, nightly presence in American living rooms—where he would just walk in and demand that people watch his TV show, or maybe he starts breaking stuff—Johnny Carson remained a very private person in his time away from The Tonight Show, generally avoiding socializing, keeping his opinions to himself, and notoriously refusing to cooperate with journalists interested in asking him softball questions for a change. Thayer produced that movie, which stars Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren, and he will produce the Carson project. They’ll shop McLaughlin’s script to buyers right after the holidays. The film will be based on the upcoming Bill Zehme book Carson The Magnificent: An Intimate Portrait. Zehme, who has written features on late-night combatants Jay Leno and David Letterman, was the only journalist Carson spoke to after his retirement, including an Esquire cover story about how Carson marked the...

First up we have the awesome Kelly Clarkson who was spotted running around London yesterday with a freshly blond ‘do with bangs, that you can see in the picture above and on the right. Do we like it on her? Yes, we do! The length of the haircut is great too and really suits her. On the left, we have Jewel who tweeted a photograph of her transformation into June Carter, who she is going to portray in a Lifetime biopic called The June Carter Cash Story. Chicago – Only The Criterion Collection can do a film like “Being John Malkovich” justice. Not only has the film held up remarkably well since its 1999 release (and even somes somewhat ahead of its time given our ability to invade the privacy of celebrity more than ever) but Criterion has assembled a stellar collection of special features that display that unique sense of personality that Spike Jonze’s debut film embodies for its fans.
DVD Rating: 4.5/5.0
One of the highlights of these special features is a half-hour interview with Malkovich conducted by the great John Hodgman. Not only do both men offer fantastic insight into what the film is about and why it still resonates but the great actor drops some incredible history about the film, including the fact that he approached Charlie Kaufman about directing it himself before Jonze was involved but there was a catch — they had to change who it was “about.

Britain's Prince William rekindled his relationship with his now wife Duchess Catherine in 2007 because he got 'jealous'. The second-in-line to the British throne broke up with the then Kate Middleton in April 2007 after a few years of dating because he was feeling 'claustrophobic', but eventually returned to her because he 'couldn't bear' the thought of her being with someone else. According to the new book 'Prince William: Born To Be A King: An Intimate Portrait', author Penny Junor said: ' The problem was William: he had very real worries about whether it was possible to love just one woman. After his hurricane childhood, he was understandably cautious about committing to a relationship. 'It's likely he was...

There's more than enough Malkovich to go around in the the 1999 surreal comedy Being John Malkovich.
From director Spike Jonze (Adaptation) and writer Charlie Kaufman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) comes this one-of-a-kind 1999 comedy wherein a mystical portal hidden in an anonymous office building leads all entrants into the cerebral cortex of actor John Malkovich for fifteen minutes, before spitting them out onto the side of the New Jersey Turnpike.
Melancholy marionettes, office drudgery, surreal comedy and a cast that includes Cameron Diaz (Bad Teacher), John Cusack (Hot Tub Time Machine), Catherine Keener (Trust) and Malkovich (Red) himself take center stage in this film, which was both a critical and commercial success upon its theatrical release.

Chicago – “The Mel Brooks Collection” contains two undeniable masterpieces, four more films that I could watch repeatedly, two so-so entries, and one interesting dud. The range of material, the special features, and the collectible packaging make it a must-own for anyone who dares claim to be a hardcore comedy fan.
Blu-Ray Rating: 5.0/5.0
Comedy is subjective but there’s nearly universal agreement on the fact that “Blazing Saddles” and “Young Frankenstein” are two of the funniest movies ever made. They simply never get old. They had been previously available on Blu-ray, but most of their partners in this new collection are debuting on the format.
The Mel Brooks Collection was released on Blu-Ray on December 15th, 2009.

Eight of the eleven films that Brooks directed are included, in chronological order: “The Twelve Chairs,” “Blazing Saddles,” “Young Frankenstein,” “Silent Movie,” “High Anxiety,” “History of the World, Part I,...
