After Dark Films has announced support for director Antonio Negret's ("Towards Darkness") film, Seconds Apart. This is murder mystery styled film, where two quiet twins seem to be behind their peers' misfortunate ends. This film, along with all the After Dark Originals, will be released January, 2011. The release will be co-partnered by Lionsgate Exclusive.
Also newsworthy is the first still from Seconds Apart, seen left. The picture shows a devilish, blood stained hand reaching for a passerby. However, this is no handshake, but something more sinister. More details on this latest acquisition are below.
The film's synopsis is here:

New York -- The lineups for the Tribeca Film Festival World Narrative and World Documentary Feature Film Competition and Spotlight section slate were unveiled Monday, along with the potentially controversial move to eliminate the New York section of the fest.
Filmmakers including Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Apted, John Dahl, Ed Burns and Shane Meadows will be featured in the selection, along with such stars as America Ferrera, Ray Romano, Bruce Springsteen, Tea Leoni and Debra Messing.
The Tribeca fest was founded in 2002 in the wake of the World Trade Center attacks to support New York artists and the local economy. While there still will be an award for best New York film, the decision to cut the local section might be seen as a move away from the fest's roots and original mission.
"We've spread New York films across all the sections, and we support New York filmmakers, but we didn't want it to seem like, 'Here's the New York festival, and here's the rest,'" said Nancy Schafer, Tff managing director and programmer.
Executive director Peter Scarlet noted that the festival has been international from its inception. "We try to get the best damn films we can," he said.
Schafer and Scarlet said this year's lineup offers a particularly strong selection of films from Latin America, with such titles as "The Year My Parents Went on Vacation" (O Ano Em Que Meus Pais Sairam de Ferias) and "Born and Bred" (Nacido y Criado).
The announced films from the sixth annual fest come from 25 countries and include 10 world premieres. "The festival, while young, continues to attract films expressing compelling views from filmmakers from around the globe and around the corner," Tff co-founder Jane Rosenthal said.
One of the highest-profile entries among the 18 World Narrative competition films is "Entourage" star Kevin Connolly's black comedy "Gardener of Eden," starring Giovanni Ribisi and Erika Christensen, from producer DiCaprio. Other highlights include Pascale Ferran's French D.H. Lawrence adaptation "Lady Chatterley," billed as "sensual yet never vulgar"; Paolo Virzi's biopic "Napoleon and Me" (Lo e Napoleone), starring Daniel Auteuil as the famed emperor; and Jose Antonio Negret's Colombian kidnapping thriller "Towards Darkness" (Hacia la Oscuridad), starring Ferrera.
The 16 World Documentary films in competition include John Reiss' graffiti docu "Bomb It" and the Afghani murder mystery "Taxi to the Dark Side," from director Alex Gibney ("Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room"). Esther Robinson examines her uncle, Andy Warhol's one-time lover, in "A Walk Into the Sea: Danny Williams and the Warhol Factory," and Paul Taylor looks at a South African AIDS orphanage in "We Are Together" (Thina Simunye), featuring a performance by Alicia Keys and Paul Simon.
The 17 Spotlight films include writer-director-star Julie Delpy's romantic comedy "2 Days in Paris" (Deux Jours a Paris); Burns' romance "Purple Violets," starring Patrick Wilson and Messing; and Zak Penn's casino mockumentary "The Grand," starring Woody Harrelson and Romano.
Other high-profile Spotlight films are Jim Brown's folk music docu "Pete Seeger: The Power of Song," featuring Bob Dylan and Springsteen; Meadows' '80s punk coming-of-age tale "This Is England"; Apted's soccer docu "The Power of the Game"; and Dahl's hitman comedy-drama "You Kill Me," starring Ben Kingsley and Leoni.
The fest, which will unveil 159 features during the next few weeks, runs April 25-May 6.

The passion of Antonio Negret's debut feature about a kidnapping in Colombia is understandable considering that no less than three members of the filmmaker's own family suffered the same ordeal. But for all its intensity and sense of purpose, Towards Darkness suffers from an overly cluttered narrative and too-hyperkinetic style. Executive produced by America Ferrera, who also appears, the film squanders the considerable dramatic potential of its subject matter.
The story line centers on the abduction of Jose (Roberto Urbina), a young photographer who returns to his native country to visit his family after moving to New York. During a reunion with his former girlfriend (Ferrera), he's suddenly kidnapped by a gang led by a Colombian warlord, who demands $1 million for his safe return.
Eschewing police involvement, Jose's frantic parents desperately try to make arrangements to pay the ransom even while enlisting the services of a private security team whose members include a former CIA agent (David Sutcliffe) with a tragic backstory.
The writer-director needlessly convolutes the proceedings with a nonlinear structure that proves more distracting than illuminating. And his attempts to infuse intensity into the story via numerous protracted action and chase sequences feel forced, more suitable to a generic action movie (like the similarly themed Man on Fire) or an episode of "24" than a serious examination of the subject matter.
Considering, as an onscreen title informs us, that someone is kidnapped in Colombia every three hours, there's no small sense of urgency and relevance to what's depicted onscreen. But for all its good intentions and slickness of execution, Darkness lacks the necessary gravitas to provide significant emotional resonance.

Actress America Ferrera is hoping her new movie role will draw attention to the kidnapping crisis in Colombia.
The Ugly Betty star plays the girlfriend of a man kidnapped in Spanish language movie Hacia la oscuridad (Towards Darkness), which hits movie theatres in the U.S. on 14 March.
And while promoting the film, Ferrera is keen to remind the public of the kidnapping epidemic in the South American country.

This week, our cup runneth over with a "Karate Kid" knockoff, a shot-for-shot remake and more documentaries than Michael Moore can shake an overpriced hot dog at.
"Blind Mountain"
The recipient of plenty of acclaim at last year's Cannes Film Festival, director Li Yang has a casual yet immediate style that's been touted as something of a Chinese answer to Ken Loach. "Blind Mountain" offers an uncomfortable but powerful indictment of China's one child policy and the sex trade that has flourished under it. The film follows the desperate struggle of a young woman who accepts a job in a remote mountain village, only to discover that she has unwittingly been sold into marriage as a slave.
