Chuck ‘The Iceman’ Liddell (21-8) is not only one of the most instantly recognisable celebrities to have ever established themselves in the Ufc but is also a hall of famer and is still an employee of the company, utilising his business degree in his capacity as executive vice president of business development. To say that the actions of Chuck Liddell impact the Ufc would be an understatement. The Iceman is one of but a handful of fighters who have transcended the status of Mma fighters to break into the ranks of general celebrities alongside the likes of Ronda Rousey, Jon Jones and Anderson Silva. Even while he was still fighting, Chuck maintained a relatively active acting schedule with appearances in How High, The Death and Life of Bobby Z and Entourage (as himself).

Paul Walker tribute: Universal and the ‘Fast and Furious’ cast and crew pay homage to the recently deceased actor (photo: Paul Walker in ‘Fast & Furious 6′) The Tribute to Paul Walker put out by Universal Pictures’ "Fast & Furious" YouTube account, will likely please fans of the movie franchise — clearly the video’s target audience. Walker’s friend and business partner, 38-year-old former Porsche racing-car driver Roger Rodas, who was at the wheel, was also killed in the accident. Check out the Paul Walker Tribute below. Now, of course, the Paul Walker Tribute also happens to be a The Fast and the Furious tribute, as no other Paul Walker movie is shown in the two-minute clip. Walker, playing former cop Brian O’Conner, was...

Yes, Sylvester Stallone is the latest major celebrity to hit the crowdfunding circuit. But it’s not his own project; he just stars in the film. The real man behind the campaign is Sly’s old buddy John Herzfeld. These guys are a pair. They were roommates in college, made a short western film using live ammo, appeared together in Cannonball! and Cobra and finally got to work together again recently on The Expendables (Herzfeld helmed the making of feature included on the DVD and Blu-ray). Now they’re united again with Reach Me, an ensemble drama we’d been tracking the casting of last fall. It turns out one of the main investors backed out during filming and now the post-production financing needs to come from pledges via Kickstarter. Reach Me doesn’t look too bad, and it does have an impressive cast (at least in size and B-level status) consisting of Stallone, Kelsey...

Exclusive: All summer we’ve debated the merits of Kickstarter as Zach Braff, Spike Lee and the makers of Veronica Mars successfully used the mechanism as a way to fill in funding gaps for movies they wanted to make. Well, here’s a new wrinkle: John Herzfeld, who wrote and directed 2 Days In The Valley, 15 Minutes and The Death And Life Of Bobby Z, was already shooting the ensemble film Reach Me when one of his backers fell out to the tune of $250,000. Rather than squash the movie, he, his star Sylvester Stallone and producer Cassian Elwes have made a pitch for the funds through Kickstarter. With a cast that includes Stallone, Lauren Cohan, Kelsey Grammer, Kyra Sedgwick, Nelly, Entourage‘s Kevin Connolly, True Blood‘s Ryan Kwanten, Thomas Jane, Tom Sizemore, Elizabeth Henstridge, Terry Crews and Danny Trejo, you wouldn’t imagine they would have any trouble finding the...

Well-known for his devil-may-care performances in action movies, Sylvester Stallone is set to try his hands in the drama genre with indie flick called Reach Me.
Penned and directed by Stallone’s Cobra co-star, John Herzfeld the film follows ‘a group of people who all have a connection to a self-help book authored by a reclusive former football coach.’
Sly will take a supporting role, joining a cast ensemble that include rapper-turned-actor Nelly as well as Omari Hardwick, Elizabeth Henstridge, Danny Aiello and Rebekah Chaney.
No word yet on what they’ll be doing, or who will play the title character.
Stay tuned.
Herzfeld also wrote and directed the Robert De Niro thriller 15 Minutes and 2 Days in the Valley, which introduced Charlize Theron to the world. He most recently directed the high-voltage actioner The Death and Life of Bobby Z, starring Paul Walker, Laurence Fishburne and Olivia Wilde.

He's been racking up the action roles with the Expendables series, The Tomb, Grudge Match and Bullet To The Head. But it's just been revealed that Sylvester Stallone has also found time for a smaller indie project. He's been quietly taking part in an ensemble piece called Reach Me.Sly has already finished shooting, although there are few details on the project as yet. We certainly don't know who he played yet, but the currently sketchy IMDb synopsis describes Reach Me as a film about a group of people who all have a connection to a self-help book written by a reclusive retired football coach. The film is written and directed by John Herzfeld, previously responsible for Two Days In The Valley, 15 Minutes and The Life And Death Of Bobby Z. His friendship with Stallone dates back to at least 1986, when he played Cho in the sort-of classic Cobra. More recently,...

American novelist and screenwriter Don Winslow’s latest novel is The Kings of Cool, a prequel to a 2010 novel which he recently adapted for the screen. With Oliver Stone behind the camera Savages was one of the year’s highly anticipated films.
Winslow’s work is attracting a lot of attention in Hollywood and for any writer it is the adaptation process which determines how their voice finds itself on screen. With both Savages and his next screenplay, Satori, Winslow is deep in the process of adaptation, aligning himself with people as passionate about the story as he.
Here the author talks about the distancing of the movie and its source, how it feels as a writer to have his character brought to the screen, and which of his previous novels might be heading to a cinema soon.

Director Oliver Stone is bringing Don Winslow’s Savages to the big screen. But will it be any good? The Criminal Complex line says, “Bet.”
Don Winslow’s 2010 novel Savages is one of those books you chide yourself for not reading sooner, even if you were able to get your hands on an Arc in ’09. The drug-dealing anti-hero(es) and the adventures of the Mexican drug cartel are all reinvested with some relevance and some actual personality in the pages of Winslow’s novel. Opening with a brief first chapter, the twin thematic powerhouses of minimalism and breakneckism (in both pace and morality) shoot you through to the conclusion, which is about as Mexican a stand-off as you’re likely to read. There’s no time to do anything but take a deep breath and hope you come out on the other side (not all of you will). If/when you do,...

It seems like we've been writing about Jon Favreau's Cowboys and Aliens forever, but now the project finally seems to be moving forward. We previously reported that Robert Downey Jr. is out (most likely because of Sherlock Holmes 2), and that Daniel Craig is replacing him as the lead gunslinger. Today we learned that Olivia Wilde (House, The O.C.) is joining the project as a character named Ella who helps the gunslinger fight the alien invasion. I would expect more casting to trickle out over the next few months, especially if Favreau actually wants to start shooting in July. Wilde is an odd choice for the roll given that she hasn't really tackled any action or genre projects thus far (unless you count the direct-to-dvd The Death and Life of Bobby Z --- which I'm not). She does have a big role in the upcoming Tron Legacy, and we have...

“Fast & Furious” burns rubber in first spot. Universal Pictures’ well-marketed “Fast & Furious” actioner has posted the highest opening weekend gross of the year with an estimated $72.5 million pocketed. Reteaming Paul Walker and Vin Diesel as well Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster, the film launched into 3,461 theatres and averaged $20,948 per venue. This is the biggest opening of the franchise by far. (See more comparisons at www.moviejungle.com/boxoffice/comparisons.asp). The film grossed over $30 million more than “Anger Management,” the previous best April opener of all time which debuted back on April 11th, 2003. A most impressive opening for the Justin Lin helmed film which is tracking well with user ratings thus far; according to IMDb, the film is at this point 7.3/10 from over 1,550 votes cast. It’s invigorating news for both male leads. Diesel’s last “Babylon A.D.” role was mediocre and not sought after for the most part, bringing...

COLOGNE, Germany -- German media fund Equity Pictures is sinking its money into the action genre, investing $70 million in a new slate of productions that includes titles toplined by action veterans Keanu Reeves, Vin Diesel and Sylvester Stallone. Cash from Equity's new fund will help bankroll such upcoming features as the Reeves starrer The Night Watchman, based on the James Ellroy best-seller about a racist serial killer; The Retriever, which features Diesel as a one-man army fighting to save the world from nuclear apocalypse; and Rambo IV, in which Stallone returns to his most famous action role. Other titles on Equity's slate include Gavin O'Connor's drama Pride & Glory, starring Edward Norton and Colin Farrell, and the comedy thriller The Death and Life of Bobby Z, from director Renny Harlin.
