Exclusive: The Amazing Spiderman, 500 Days of Summer and Disney’s Snow White director Marc Webb has been set to direct supernatural thriller Day Drinker.
Based around the bond between an enigmatic stranger and a bartender mourning the loss of her lover, the original story is written by Zach Dean (The Tomorrow War), who will also produce alongside Lit Entertainment Group’s Adam Kolbrenner (The Tomorrow War). 30West is financing and will executive-produce.
Set in coastal France, Portugal, and Spain, plot details are largely being kept under wraps but we’re told the story spans “love, friendship, and revenge”. The project could become a hot Cannes market prospect but that hasn’t been set yet.

Like everyone else, we love Lucy and celebrate the anniversary of Lucille Ball‘s landmark laffer “I Love Lucy,” which debuted on CBS exactly 70 years ago today on Oct. 15, 1951. The show won the Emmy for Best Situation Comedy twice and Ball claimed two trophies as well.
Ball went on to win two more Emmys for the last two seasons of her second series, “The Lucy Show”. In 1967, she edged out “Bewitched” stars Elizabeth Montgomery and Agnes Moorehead and “That Girl’s” Marlo Thomas. By the way, Montgomery never won an Emmy, despite nine nods, including five for her work as that witch with a twitch. The following year, in what was to be her final Emmy race, Ball prevailed yet again. Her competition: Montgomery and Thomas, as well as Barbara Feldon (“Get Smart”) and Paula Prentiss (“He and She”).

Have we seen the last of Yolanda? Was this truly Wildcat's swan song?
The teenage superhero effectively quit the Jsa, cut off contact with Courtney, and left her job in one fell swoop, but the end of Stargirl Season 2 Episode 7 didn't offer much insight beyond that.
Yolanda could just as easily pop up in the next episode -- albeit giving all her friends the cold shoulder -- as go Mia for a handful of episodes or even the rest of the season. The truth is we don't know.
Following the episode, I searched the internet for post mortem articles, hoping to see if there's was any confirmation that Yvette Monreal was leaving the series.
It turns out Monreal may have been just as in the dark as the rest of us, telling TVLine she and Brec Bassinger, who plays Courtney, "had a little moment backstage, where we kind of teared up a bit.

This week on DC’s Stargirl, Yolanda’s lingering anguish over Henry’s death and her murder of his father Brainwave manifested itself in a way like never before. When push came to shove, how did the young hero arrive at a certain peace with her actions?
In short: After unsuccessfully running by her clergyman the idea that some sorts of killing are good, drawing daggers from her own mom, and later being tormented by vivid visions of both Henry and his dad, Yolanda ‘fessed up to Rick and Beth her hands-on role in Brainwave’s death. When neither of...

"You wanted to get in my head? I got in yours!" Saban Films has unveiled an official trailer for a gripping survival thriller titled Wildcat, both written & directed by American filmmaker Jonathan W. Stokes. This hasn't shown up at any festivals, but will be released in theaters in April this spring. Georgina Campbell stars as an ambitious reporter stationed in the Middle East who is taken captive after her convoy is ambushed. She is confronted by the trauma of her past and must find a way to bring down the militants who incarcerated her and escape safely. The film's cast includes Luke Benward, Ibrahim Renno, Mido Hamada, and Ali Olomi. This actually looks badass! The premise is just a tad cheesy, but the footage looks pretty damn cool so far. Check this out. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Jonathan W. Stokes' Wildcat, direct from YouTube: An ambitious reporter...

During a charming DC Fandome panel that reunited the cast of the delightful CW show–Brec Bassinger (Stargirl), Yvette Monreal (Wildcat), Cameron Gellman (Hourman), Anjelika Washington (Doctor Mid-Nite), and Amy Smart (Barbara Whitmore) along with creator Geoff Johns and Hollywood icon/Stargirl director Lea Thompson–Bassinger hinted that we might see a fan-fave Grant Morrison Jla character, Jakeem Thunder, when Stargirl season 2 arrives next year.
The first season of Stargirl centered on Courtney Whitmore taking on the mantle that she thought belonged to her father while building a new Justice Society of America team. While we saw new iterations of Doctor Mid-Nite, Wildcat, and Hourman, there were a couple of team members who were only hinted at through their accessories. Alan Scott’s Green Lantern was seen in the old Jsa headquarters along with Johnny Thunder’s pink pen. For a while it seemed like Icicle’s son, Cameron Mahkent,...

During this morning’s Amazon Contenders Emmy TV panel for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, EP/director/writer Dan Palladino said that “within five or six months” the 16-Emmy winning series should expect to be back in production for its fourth season.
“King Covid is ruling everything,” said Palladino about the delay, “Amy and I and the writers are soon to be writing in earnest and putting things down on paper.”
Co-creator Amy Sherman Palladino and Dan Palladino’s m.o. with season three of Mrs. Maisel was capturing the rise and fall that comes with a burgeoning star like Midge Maisel in show business. In the finale, Rachel Brosnahan’s Midge is left standing on an airport tarmac, fired as the opening act of singer Shy Baldwin’s tour. Meanwhile, her manager Susie Myerson has gambled away most of Midge’s income from the tour. Where do they go from here?...

Stargirl Episode 5
Whereas last week’s Stargirl officially brought Yolanda Montez into the fold of the new Justice Society of America as Wildcat, this installment taps two more members: Rick Harris (formerly Tyler) and Beth Chapel as the new Hourman and Dr. Mid-nite, respectively.
On the plus side, it’s great to see Courtney get more kids her own age to interact with and the prospect of this particular group of teens forming bonds and friendships among themselves is intriguing. But after an episode focused exclusively on Yolanda, the decision to cram two separate origin stories into this hour feels more than a bit rushed.
True, Beth has existed on the periphery of Courtney’s story since the Stargirl pilot, so at least it doesn’t feel as though her becoming the new Dr. Mid-nite comes completely out of nowhere. Though, to be fair, pretty...

Actress Yvette Monreal and comic book legend Geoff Johns talk the real-world based origin story of Stargirl‘s Wildcat.
“The new DC Comics series Stargirl looks and feels like a vintage superhero show. But in the fourth episode, ‘Wildcat,’ the series plants its feet firmly in the 21st century introducing a new and more relatable origin to Yolanda Montez, an honor roll student who dons the mask of the fallen Jsa superhero, Wildcat.”

On this day, we celebrate Tommie Smith and John Carlos, who sacrificed their careers protesting against racism in the 1968 Olympics.
“On October 16, 1968, track and field stars Tommie Smith and John Carlos stepped onto the Olympic podium in Mexico City to receive their medals for the 200-meter dash; Smith had won the gold, Carlos the bronze. They were wearing black socks—no shoes—and badges that read ‘Olympic Project for Human Rights.’ Smith had also donned a black scarf,...

Stargirl Episode 4
Part of the reason that Stargirl feels like such a breath of fresh air in the DC television universe is that it’s telling stories we haven’t seen in this space before. Courtney Whitmore isn’t just a character who stumbles into having superpowers, she’s also a teen girl. She’s trying to navigate school, make friends and maybe flirt with that cute boy in her class.

“I Love Lucy” is the subject of a heartfelt tribute from “Will & Grace” on April 9. In “We Love Lucy,” Grace (Debra Messing), Jack (Sean Hayes) and Karen (Megan Mullally) each imagine themselves as Lucy Ricardo opposite Will (Eric McCormack) as her hubby Ricky. Part of the fun is seeing this trio of talent also play Fred and Ethel in various combinations.
“Will & Grace” and “I Love Lucy” both won Best Comedy Series at the Emmys. The former did it in 2000; Hayes and Mullally won that year as well. McCormack prevailed in 2001 and Messing in 2003. “Will and Grace” is only the third TV series in Emmy history in which all four of the main cast won awards, following “All in the Family” and “The Golden Girls.”
Of the quartet of talent on “I Love Lucy,” it was only the women — Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance — who won over the TV academy voters.

DC’s Stargirl TV series has seen its release date shift slightly…but not too much! Originally scheduled to premiere on Monday, May 11 on the DC Universe streaming service with a broadcast to follow on the CW on Tuesday, May 12, Stargirl will now arrive on DC Universe a week later, on Monday, May 18 instead, with the CW broadcast to follow on Tuesday, May 19th. The premiere date shift might reflect a need for The CW to fill holes in its schedule since the latter episodes of most of its heavy hitters like The Flash, Supernatural, Supergirl, Batwoman, and others have been temporarily delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
But the good news is that from that point forward it looks like the rest of the series is right on schedule, and DC Universe and The CW have confirmed air dates and revealed official details about the first five episodes!
