As a warrior queen once screamed, “Where are my dragons?”
It’s the question that’s lingered for Game of Thrones franchise fans for almost two years now, as the audience eagerly awaits for the second season of prequel series House of the Dragon to drop. Well, good news, friends: It’s almost here! June 16 is the big date, with the war between Team Black and Team Green finally kicking into overdrive, and plenty of those ferocious winged beasts fueling the fight along.
Of course, now comes the next question: “Great, so, uh, remind me what happened?”
The first season finale released in October 2022. Two years is a long time in TV land. Heck, two days is a long time in TV land, with whole seasons binge-dropping in their entirety left and right — let alone trying to identify the next water-cooler show. At the very least, Westeros is nothing if...

House of the Dragon S2 Will Explore Aemond's 'Shadow Side', Says Actor Ewan Mitchell - Main Image
Fans have seen Aemond Targaryen as a major villain in House of the Dragon after his dragon, Vhagar, kills Arrax and its master, Lucerys Velaryon, in the first season finale.
Despite this negative connotation given to Aemond, Ewan Mitchell teases his character will “surprise people” in the upcoming House of the Dragon Season 2.
Aemond House of the Dragon Season One
Aemond didn’t see the death of Lucerys and Arrax coming as he and his dragon, Vhagar, chased the two.
Aemond and Lucerys lost control of their dragons, with Arrax breathing fire on Vhagar against Lucerys’ protest.
But just when Lucerys thought they were safe after regaining control of Arrax and commanding him to fly over the storm clouds, an enraged Vhagar appeared, bit Arrax in pieces, and ate Lucerys whole.

Max (formerly known as HBO Max) increasing its subscription price put pressure on subscribers’ wallets. But if you’re eagerly waiting for the House of the Dragon Season 2, the price increase may not seem like a setback after seeing its rating on the movie aggregator site, Rotten Tomatoes.
Critics are loving what House of the Dragon Season 2 has to offer
The Game of Thrones prequel series has managed an impressive score of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. Although the rating is based on early reviews, it’s a strong enough indicator for the viewers to believe that the makers have done full justice to the hype.
Some of the top critics, including ones from CNN and The Independent, believe that the first few episodes of the series will test viewers’ patience, as it takes time to set the tone for a “grand, violent spectacle”. We’ll know whether viewers’ opinions align with...

Plot: Westeros is on the brink of a bloody civil war with the Green and Black Councils fighting for King Aegon and Queen Rhaenyra, respectively.
Review: It was always going to be an uphill climb for House of the Dragon to live up to the peak of Game of Thrones. With an uneven first season but still better than the ending of the series that inspired it, House of the Dragon concluded its first season with the beginning of a civil war between Targaryens vying for the Iron Throne. Despite solid performances from Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, and Olivia Cooke, House of the Dragon‘s sprawling time jumps and reliance on dragons rather than intriguing characters worth investing in made it hard to care about what happened until the war began. Even though it is two episodes shorter than the previous season, House of the Dragon begins with...

The hit HBO show will be switching from the blood stream in a cogwheel theme to an embroidery of a Bayeux Tapestry-style history of the Targaryen family. Taking cinema screens by storm, the sci-fi action genre has become a staple cash cow for Hollywood. However, on the other end of the coin, filmmakers with a vision have managed to turn it from a cash cow into some of the most astounding pieces of art ever. HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, returns for its second season in ten days, and the review embargo has now lifted.
Though most critics got to see all 8 episodes, some only got the first 2, which should be taken into account when reading through these verdicts.
Though reviews are still coming in, House of the Dragon season 2 currently sits at a very impressive 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.
"Approaching its dynastic cataclysm with a deliberate stride rather than a charging gallop, House of the Dragon carefully sets up its emotional stakes to make the fiery spectacle all the more scorching," reads the Critics Consensus.
The cast - particularly Emma D'Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen - come in for universal praise, as does the production values, VFX and intense action sequences (it sounds like season 2 ups the gore quota considerably), but some seem to feel that the story has a few issues,...

"House of the Dragon" was always going to live in the shadow of "Game of Thrones." The big question was how effectively it could operate in that shadow, and if it could carve out its own identity while weathering constant comparisons to the series that spawned it. The show's first season was an often remarkable proof of concept — yes, this was another show set in author George R.R. Martin's fantasy kingdom of Westeros, but it had its own flavor, its own tone. Spanning decades (and recasting several key characters halfway through the season as they aged up), it was a show operating at a sprint, hungry to prove itself, and hungry to prove itself entirely self-reliant, that it is its own show.
The funny thing about the long-awaited second season of "House of the Dragon," after all that grand distance established in the first outing, is how much it feels like "Game of Thrones.

Very few shows have ever caught my attention the way the world of Game of Thrones has the opening title sequence. The music hits, sending chills down my spine, knowing I am ready to be engulfed in this world of lies and deceit. We’ve waited close to two years to reenter the world of Westeros, but House of the Dragon has returned for a second season, and I’ve got so much to say about it.
House of the Dragon Season 2 Plot
King Viserys Targaryen’s death sent shockwaves through Westeros as a succession plan backfired in the face of Princess Thaenyra. Westeros is on the brink of a bloody civil war between the Black and Green Councils, fighting for Queen Rhaenyra and King Aegon, respectively.

On House of the Dragon, there are prominent characters named Rhaenyra, Rhaenys, and Rhaena. There’s an Alicent and also an Alys. There are identical twins named Arryk and Erryk (both pronounced like “Eric”). There are references to multiple characters named Jaehaerys, and there’s also a Jacaerys, whose nickname is Jace, though you shouldn’t confuse him with a different character named Jason. And did I mention that Jason also has an identical twin?

The opening lines of “House of the Dragon” Season 2 stem from a character I’m not meant to name speaking of things that have no real bearing in the “Game of Thrones” universe. “Duty is sacrifice,” the man says. (I hope I can say he’s a man.) “It eclipses all things, even blood. All men of honor must pay its price.” Sorry to interrupt, good sir, but who are these “men of honor” you speak of? Are they hiding? Is HBO saving them for the next spinoff? Some are certainly dead, given the body count on which George R.R. Martin has built his brutal world, but there are scant few in “HotD” who fit the description. To be fair, the narrating man qualifies, and his colleagues also appear to be living a principled existence. But having seen nine seasons of heartless betrayals and maniacal power grabs, simply recognizing one...

The hectic inaugural season of House of the Dragon covered roughly 20 years as the long-standing peace under King Viserys came to an end. In the season’s final two episodes, the series found its footing, establishing the parallel claims to the throne between the Black faction that follows Viserys’s appointed heir, daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), and the Green faction under Rhaenyra’s former best friend, Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), who follow Alicent and Viserys’s young, impetuous son Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney).
All the table setting and time jumping that dominated the better part of the first season have, perhaps inevitably, set the stage for a much stronger second season for House of the Dragon. It’s also, especially for a Game of Thrones property, surprisingly restrained. The first four episodes made available to press cover only a few weeks, and the entire opening episode, “A Son for a Son,...

In the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, relationships are a flaming disaster. As these suppressed emotions finally start to surface, the Targaryen dynasty plunged into civil war. However, some interactions slipped right under our noses, one of which was between dowager Queen Alicent and her protector Criston Cole, which might surprise a lot.

Despite the success of House Of The Dragon’s first season, both in terms of its burnished worldbuilding and its broadly positive critical response, the second arrives with much expectation that it can do better. Whether it was the relative lack of geographical and social scope, the big leaps forward in time, or the constant casting switch-ups as characters aged, even its biggest fans had a niggle they could mention. On all those fronts, we have good news. Season 2, now run solo by Ryan Condal (co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik having bowed out), is more chronologically focused, less fidgety with its actors, and has its eye on the world (and the social strata) beyond the highborn Targaryen court.

“House of the Dragon” showrunner Ryan Condal describes the second season of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” prequel as a “cold war in process.”
“And that’s really because of the dragons,” Condal told Variety at the Season 2 premiere Monday night in New York City. “Everybody’s terrified of launching mutually assured destruction and burning down the kingdom that they’re trying to rule over.”
“House of the Dragon” Season 2 will continue to chronicle the royal succession civil war, known as the Dance of Dragons, between two rival factions of House Targaryen: the greens and the blacks.
“I think I was most excited to explore the exchange of power,” Olivia Cooke said of her character, Alicent Hightower. “She was at the height of her power come the end of Season 1, and now her son’s on the throne, making her the Queen Dowager. I don’t think she’s really...

Although House of the Dragon was intense from the beginning, the first season was written as an introduction to the story that will take place in season 2. Viewers got to know the characters, get into the plot, pick their personal favorites, and start rooting for them.
Season 2, however, is about to change everything, as both branches of the Targaryen family will enter the battlefield to start a real war for the Iron Throne. While most fans may have already decided whether they're Team Green or Team Black, the events of the upcoming episodes are likely to change that.

Even though many viewers came to despise Alicent Hightower during the first season, there is still a chance for her to either redeem herself or attract more attention by becoming even more unhinged. Knowing how George R.R. Martin's adaptations tend to go,...

After the long wait of nearly two years, our favorite epic fantasy political drama is back, and this time with even more dragons. It has been more than five years since Game of Thrones ended and no other series has been able to replace the hole it left in the television space until its prequel series House of the Dragon came out to reclaim its fans and apologize to its fans for the terrible Season 8 of Got. Now we are finally getting the second season of the fan-favorite HBO series.

Matt Smith may play a fan-favorite Targaryen right now, but there was another Targaryen descendant who has always had fan support for being the best Game of Thrones character. Fans may get riled up for that exact reason at Smith’s recent comments on who would win a battle between Daemon Targaryen and Jon Snow. Smith shared that Daemon would emerge victorious over Kit Harington’s Jon Snow in such a scenario.

By the end of House Of The Dragon’s first season, the Game Of Thrones prequel series exploring the Targaryen civil war had set up an almighty clash of queens. Emma D’Arcy’s rightful ruler Rhaenyra had been denied the throne by childhood-friend-turned-mother-in-law (it’s complicated) Alicent Hightower; in a colossal misunderstanding, Alicent has come to believe it was King Viserys’ final wish for Alicent’s line to take the throne, rather than the daughter he long championed for the job. Throw in that one of Rhaenyra’s kids has been chomped by a hungry dragon – at the hand of one of Alicent’s sprogs, no less – and the stage is set for all-out war.
Heading into Season 2, neither Alicent nor Rhaenyra is ready to back down. “Alicent’s at the height of her power,” Cooke teases of the upcoming episodes. “She’s dealing with the task she thinks Viserys gave her,...

House of the Dragon is returning for Season 2 and the cast is teasing what viewers can expect when the show returns to HBO on June 16.
Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, and Matt Smith talked to Deadline and teased what is ahead for the fantasy drama, with Smith revealing that the show will be more like its older sibling.
For Cooke, who plays Queen Alicent Hightower, returning for the second season of the George R.R. Martin-created series was like a homecoming.
“We know the characters inside out, and we’re sort of going back home, in a way,” Cooke told us. “We’re not afraid of the text or afraid of the big sets that are sort of home away from home.”
Cooke teases that in Season 2, Queen Alicent Hightower leaves the castle with the actor saying, “That was huge for me. I went to Spain. I went to Wales and I went to Surrey.

After building its characters’ relationships in season one, season two of HBO’s House of the Dragon will see its leads flung across Westeros — much to the disappointment of its close-knit cast.
The second season of the Game of Thrones prequel will continue to chronicle the House Targaryen civil war, as Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) and their Dragonstone forces face off against Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and her children for claim of the Iron Throne. But that means the stars were often off shooting their own individual storylines this year, rather than group scenes together.

It’s almost “House of the Dragon” season again, which means it’s time for HBO to put everything it has into showing off the megahit series.
The Season 2 world premiere at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom was attended by cast and crew, celebrities, press — and, as Casey Bloys noted in his opening remarks before a screening of Episode 1, members of the executive board of Warner Bros. Discovery, including C.E.O. David Zaslav.

One thing everyone must be prepared for when it comes to the Targaryens and their family is that the customs are unconventional, to say the least. Fearing for their special abilities to bond with dragons and keeping the Iron Throne strictly within the family, Targaryen marriages have mostly occurred between close blood relatives.
Thus, Aegon II is now married to his sister Helaena, and Jacaerys and Lucerys Velaryon were both betrothed to their cousins Baela and Rhaena Targaryen. Rhaenyra and Daemon top the list of the strangest yet most powerful Targaryen marriages in the series to date. But when it comes to Targaryen love, the sky's the limit. And the show's cast knows it best.

With the death of King Viserys and Prince Lucerys in House of the Dragon season 1, both factions are grieving as we dive into the next season. Matt Smith claims that Daemon acts like a crazy person in the upcoming season as he is struggling to feel grief and come to terms with his brother’s death. The power struggle is secondary since in hindsight, Viserys always trusted and had confidence in Daemon. Having lost him, Daemon also feels a bit hazy about his future.

With June 16 just around the corner, Team Black and Team Green are all geared up to claim the Iron Throne. In a panel discussion to kick off the New York premiere of House of the Dragon, the cast and showrunner Ryan Condal sat down to answer some burning questions.
Talking about the looming war and the preceding power shift at King’s Landing, actress Olivia Cooke claimed that her character has been forced into early retirement. Alicent’s purpose in life, as set by her father, was to further the reputation of her house and consolidate power. Now, with her son as the King of Seven Kingdoms, she feels useless as she has achieved her purpose and now has nothing to do.
The Dowager Queen has lost a fair share of power and is struggling to find her footing. Condal further praised Cooke for her incredible work in bringing the character to life.
