Dynasty, the CW’s reboot of the beloved ABC sudser from the ’80s, came to an end Friday night after five seasons. Here, showrunner Josh Reims talks about what he really wanted to do in the last episode, and how odd it was that ratings for the sudser were never really discussed.
Deadline: Did you have enough time to plan for a series finale?
Josh Reims We actually planned a series finale and a season finale, just in case. We did twice the work, basically.
Did you know you wanted to end with the wedding?
Reims That came up near the end. For some reason we kept ending seasons with weddings and we thought it would be fun to do it again. We figured Culhane (Robert C. Riley) and Nina (Felisha Terrell) were the best couple to do it, and we liked the idea of playing around and having viewers...

Dynasty has always been that show you're not supposed to take seriously.
But somewhere along the way, the series became that show I'm embarrassed to admit I still watch, and quite frankly, it's because of the creative choices.
Dynasty Season 4 Episode 13 was the first episode in a long time that gave me the desire to watch the next.
It was all thanks to the stakes being raised like never before. I'm about to delve into spoiler territory for the episode that aired last week because where the heck was Steven?
If you watch Dynasty online, you know we last saw Steven on Dynasty Season 2, and the show has essentially forgotten about his existence ever since.
Adam made it look like Steven would commit suicide in Paris, only for him to be committed to a psychiatric facility.
In the aftermath, Adam arrived at the manor and somehow managed to weasel his way into the family,...

“Who’s in the casket?” It’s the question Dynasty fans have been asking all season, and Friday’s episode finally gave them their answer — for better or worse.
We’ve waited long enough for this reveal, so we won’t bother beating around the bush: While saving Fallon and Liam from a pair of mustache-twirling kidnappers, Anders (played by Alan Dale since the reboot premiered in 2017) suffered an injury to his ribs that proved to be tragically fatal. Well, the injury isn’t technically what killed him, but the pain did distract him during a drive to visit Cristal in the hospital,...

Well, That happened.
Dynasty Season 2 Episode 14 finally brought Adam into the mix, and his entrance will surely go down as one of the most memorable arrivals on TV in quite some time.
Steven was all over the place. I mean, I figured this George Emerson character was a figment of Steven's imagination before Fallon and Sammy Jo even entertained the possibility.
Steven has always been an erratic character, and the way he spoke about the elusive George was like he had been in a relationship with him on the down low for years.
There was a passion in his eyes when he was talking about him, even when he was claiming that the relationship was platonic. It is possible for people to be friends, but there was something off about the way Steven was acting.
Welcome to our home away from home. Well, one of them.

The CW's Dynasty is losing another familiar face.
Per TV Line, Nicollette Sheridan is bowing out of the soapy reboot after just over a year in the role of Alexis Carrington.
The CW and CBS Television Studios said, “Nicollette Sheridan will be leaving Dynasty in order to focus on some personal family responsibilities. She was a valuable asset to the show, and we wish her continued success in the future.”
Meanwhile, Sheridan has released her own statement confirming her departure, while lifting the lid on what paved the way for her departure.
“Working on the Dynasty reboot and reprising the iconic role of Alexis has been thoroughly enjoyable, but the chance to spend precious time with my terminally ill mother is more important to me right now," she said via a statement.

The inaugural season of the Dynasty TV show reboot was The CW's second-worst rated series in the demo. Numbers like the ones it earned might have seen it cancelled, but Netflix carries the show internationally, which makes it profitable regardless of its Nielsen ratings. Now that it is back for a second season, can this contemporary version of the 1980s primetime sudser cast a wider net and reel in some more viewers? Does it even have to? Will Dynasty be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. **Status update below.

Don't ever get in between a Carrington and something they want!
On Dynasty Season 2 Episode 8, both Fallon and Alexis proved that if they want something bad enough, they will do anything to get it.
And they play dirty, even amongst each other.
When Fallon found out she couldn't get the venue she wanted for her wedding, she went to extremes.
Apparently, when you boast the Carrington name, it's perfectly acceptable to flaunt your status around and just purchase the venue.
With such privileges, I'm not surprised Alexis wanted to sabotage her own daughter to climb up the social ladder once again.
The whole antebellum thing is giving me "Get Out" vibes.

Instead of helping her daughter, Alexis was doing favors for Southern socialite, Mimi Rose Prescott, to get back into the Peachtree Society.
Really Alexis?
I'll never understand rich people.

Dynasty picks up the pace with a fun episode but still leaves us wondering about the long game
This episode of Dynasty contains spoilers.
Dynasty Season 2 Episode 5 Review
It’s always good to start with You Make My Dreams Come True, a reminder that Dynasty’s soundtrack rarely falters, even if other creative choices aren’t as strong. The episode itself was a good one – intrigue, zaniness, and a good party - but I still have concerns about the larger season-long arcs.
With a couple of lines of dialogue, the eeriness of swapping one young, kind Latinx Cristal with another went from a knowing wink toward a commonplace practice on soaps to hand waving away the creepiness (and racism-infused misogyny!) of simply indulging in it. Why is Cristal perched on Blake like they’re married? This is aggressive. Also aggressive? Blake buying Cristal’s clinic and shutting it down. And...

Dynasty is down another original Carrington. James MacKay, who played Steven Carrington, Fallon’s (Elizabeth Gillies) gay environmentalist brother, announced on Instagram ahead of tonight’s episode of the CW reboot that he has left the show.
“While Steven had a choice to leave, unfortunately I didn’t,” MacKay said. “There’s a lot of decisions involved in making television, and sometimes they just don’t go your way and you have to live with it.”
While MacKay made it sound like he may be gone forever from the series, I hear that may not be the case. More on that in a bit.
MacKay’s exit as a series regular was part of the major creative overhaul of the reboot of the iconic 1980s soap that started with the introduction of Nicollette Sheridan as Alexis Carrington late in Season 1.

Just months after Dynasty was rocked by the departure of Nathalie Kelley as (the original) Cristal, we’ll be seeing less of another actor on the fraught CW drama. James Mackay, who has portrayed Steven Carrington since the show premiered in Oct. 2017, will no longer be a series regular, a network rep confirms to TVLine. He will be in a reduced number of episodes, but will return later this season.
Mackay took to Instagram on Friday to reveal the change. “All new #Dynasty tonight, but, yep, sorry to say without yours truly,” he wrote several hours before a new episode was set to air.

“I’m stunned; this is an incredible platform,” Bingwa told If after accepting the award from Heath Ledger’s father Kim Ledger today at a dinner attended by eight of the 10 finalists at the Chateau Marmon in Los Angeles.
In her acceptance speech she told how Heath touched her life when she saw Brokeback Mountain. His character’s lines about ‘the pain of a life not lived’ inspired her to come out as a gay woman, she said.

The Dynasty reboot’s catfights just lost a bit of hiss.
Season 2 of the CW sudser will not feature one of its major cast members, it was revealed during an interview with E! Online.
“I haven’t read anything for Season 2,” Nathalie Kelley, who plays/played Cristal, told E! “I know that I end up with a gunshot wound and in a fire at the end of Season 1, and I know that I won’t be filming Season 2.”
Like, not filming at all? Not even as, maybe, a lookalike named Rita…?
“I won’t be returning for Season 2,” the Peruvian-born Australian actress reiterated.
