[1] Walt Disney Studios has announced the title for Pixar's Holiday 2013 movie -- Frozen. I'm kind of surprised that the MPAA approved the title considering there was a popular indie movie released under the same title only two years ago, Adam Green's horror thriller Frozen. When the project was first announced at the D23 Expo, they revealed a joke working title (complete with logo seen above): "The Untitled Pixar Movie About Dinosaurs". More details after the jump. Previously: Here is the official plot synopsis from Disney: What if that life-changing asteroid missed Earth? Director Bob Peterson’s hilarious tale depicts a world where dinosaurs never went extinct. And here is a bit of information on the filmmakers behind the movie: Bob Peterson started at Pixar as an additional animator and layout artist on Toy Story, and worked on the story team for A Bug's Life and Toy Story 2.

Both films, yet to be officially titled, will be released in the slots following the announced Monsters Inc prequel Monsters University, which hits theaters on June 21st 2013. Learn more about the first of the projects, which involves dinosaurs, after the jump. Pixar's Holiday 2013 movie is about dinosaurs. Speculation on what the guys at Pixar are up to is always a popular topic around these parts, and when website Gordon and the Whale speculated last summer that the next project in the animation company's queue might be something involving dinosaurs, we all got excited. The basis for that hypothesis centered on a series of dinosaur-themed concept art featured in the background on one of Up's special features. The idea became even more plausible when we learned that animator Austin Madison and character sculptor Greg Dykstra had taken several animators on a field trip to archaeological sites at the Black Hills Institute in South Dakota. What could it all mean?
Turns out it means almost exactly what we suspected. Pixar's next project involves teaming up with The Discovery Channel to create a program entitled Reign of the Dinosaurs!. Sure, it's not the feature-length dino-flick we were all anticipating, but...

Way back in August of last year, we reported on some interesting clues that were seen in the background of a special feature for Up. Was Pixar in fact working on a dinosaur-related project? After all, they did have their animator Austin Madison, along with character sculptor Greg Dykstra and a few other Pixar animators, doing research on various archaeological digs at the Black Hills Institute in South Dakota back in July and August of ‘09.

You might have heard rumours that Disney Pixar have a dinosaur movie in the works. We know that they are making Cars 2 and Bear and the Bow (unofficial title thus far) next year as they start to make 2 movies per year. The dinosaur project was noticed during on sculptor Greg Dykstra’s wall in behind the scenes b-roll footage for Up.
Well, the eagle eyed chaps over at Slashfilm have been on the Discovery Channel’s website checking the slate for their upcoming projects and it turns out that they’ve teamed together with Disney Pixar to create a dinosaur programme whcih is to be called ‘Reign of the Dinosaurs’. They open by saying ‘Avatar meets Jurassic Park….’. I’m hooked already!
The full press release is available over on the Discovery Channel website which you can see here. So, with Pixar now making two movies a year, + TV series,...

You might recall that last August, Pixar fans spotted some concept artwork featuring a boy and his dinosaur, on sculptor Greg Dykstra's wall in behind the scenes b-roll footage for Up. Someone also noticed some interesting postings made by Pixar animator and paleontology buff Austin Madison on his personal blog recounting a trip taken by a group of Pixar dino enthusiasts, including Dykstra, to the badlands of South Dakota. Anyone who follows Pixar's development process probably knows that the animation studio's artists usually take research field trips while developing new films. For Ratatouille, they took a trip to Paris to study the city and eat in some of the fine restaurants. For Up, they took a trip to South America to study the the strange wilderness of the region. We had wrongly assumed that the project was a Pixar short film called "Night And Day" by Teddy Newton, a...

ComingSoon has an exclusive first look at Pixar's new short film which will be attached to Toy Story 3 on June 18th 2010. As we previously reported, it is titled Day & Night, and was directed by Teddy Newton, a storyboard artist on The Iron Giant, Character Designer for The Incredibles and Presto, who makes his Pixar directorial debut. What isn't expected: We had assumed, probably incorrectly, that the short film has something to do with the boy and dinosaur art that was spotted on sculptor Greg Dykstra's wall in behind the scenes b-roll footage for Pete Docter's Up. While this is unconfirmed, the title graphic gives the impression that the shot could be a 2D animated film, and not the computer animated short film we're use to from Pixar. If so, this wouldn't be Pixar's first attempt at 2D animation (see Your Friend the Rat, the short included on...

UpcomingPixar noticed that in an old featurette for Pixar's "Up" is a shot showing Greg Dykstra sculpting a model for a young version of Carl. Behind him are several never-before-seen pieces of concept art of a boy and a dinosaur. But what is this concept art for? To get some answers, a fans sent a message to Pixar story supervisor Ronnie del Carmen to find out if he knows anything about a Pixar project that includes a boy and giant dinosaur. "I do," he replied. "But not telling. Nothing to do with anything 'Toy Story,' tell you that." So, it's not from "Toy Story 3," and it's obviously not from "Cars 2," "The Bear and the Bow" or "Newt." We're going to have to assume the art is from a new short film. Take a look at the image below and let us know if you have any idea...

The Internet is buzzing at the prospect of information regarding a new Pixar project. It seems that during a featurette for Up while Greg Dykstra shows off one of his many character models for the film there happens to be some very interesting concept art which has gotten all the fans all in a flutter!
The concept art in question consists of a young boy and a dinosaur.
The image was first spotted by the eagle eyed folks at Pixar Planet. Rumours started flying around and questions have been asked as to what it can be for. One thing is for sure, it’s not for Toy Story 3 as Ronnie Del Carmen confirmed via Twitter when he was asked if he knew what the mysterious art was for.

Earlier today we posted a speculative scoop, a screen-grab from B-roll footage for Pixar's Up that accidentally showed concept art of a boy and a dinosaur in the background of sculptor Greg Dykstra's office (see the left side of the zoomed in photo above). We were unsure if this art is part of an upcoming unannounced Pixar short of feature film. It certainly didn't look like anything that would fit into the few announced features that the animation studio is currently developing. Pixar story supervisor Ronnie del Carmen responded to a tweet asking about the art on Twitter , confirming that he knows what the art is from, commenting that it has "nothing to do with anything Toy Story," but would not reveal more. We have since learned a little bit more. Pixar Touch author David A. Price has alerted The Pixar Blog to some interesting postings made by Pixar...

Could Pixar be working on a film about a boy and his dinosaur? If you take a look behind Pixar sculptor Greg Dykstra, you will notice concept drawings and photos on his office wall showing a dinosaur and a boy. Could this be a design for an upcoming Pixar feature or short film? Upcoming Pixar reader Bryko614, who noticed the concept art above while watching B-Roll footage from the making of Pete Docter's Up, took that question to Pixar story supervisor Ronnie del Carmen. del Carmen responded on Twitter by saying that he does know what they are from "But not telling. Nothing to do with anything Toy Story, tell you that." Some have suggested the possibility that the designs could have been created for earlier concepts for Russell the wilderness explorer and what eventually became Kevin the Bird, but neither of which appear in The Art of Up book,...
