Kathleen Kennedy Townsend
Eldest daughter of Robert F. Kennedy
and Ethel Kennedy. Kathleen is
also the first grandchild of
Rose Kennedy and
Joseph P. Kennedy. Named after her
aunt, Kathleen "Kick" Kennedy Cavendish, Marchioness of Hartington.
Kathleen followed her as the first of her generation to marry. Kathleen
married David Townsend on November 17, 1973 in Washington, DC. On the
same day that Kathleen was being given away by her uncle, Senator
Ted Kennedy, her cousin,
Ted Kennedy Jr., was having his leg
amputated. Though Kathleen had offered to postpone the wedding, the
family decided to proceed with the wedding, as planned. However,
tragedy would later find Kathleen at a wedding. While gathering with
her family to celebrate the wedding of her youngest sister,
Rory Kennedy, Kathleen learned that another
cousin, John Kennedy Jr., was missing
and then later killed in a plane crash. Kathleen and David have four
daughters. They live in Annapolis, MD, where Kathleen is the Lt.
Governor. She is currently running for Governor.
