The Mandalorian star Giancarlo Esposito has finally been spotted on the set of Captain America: Brave New World in full costume. As you'll see in the X post below, his character is packing some serious weaponry!
With three knives on his chest and a large gun (axe?) holstered on his left-hand side, this mystery bad guy looks mighty formidable. Chances are he'll take aim at the McU's new Captain America, but just who the heck is he?
Truthfully, we don't know!
While set photos like this would typically let the cat out of the bag, nothing here identifies Esposito as a specific Marvel character. The actor has said he'll appear in a TV series after this big screen debut, so his playing an assassin - potentially hired by Mayor Wilson Fisk - in Daredevil: Born Again, for example, makes sense.

Reshoots Notwithstanding, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Will Be Much Cheaper Than ‘The Marvels’
We know that ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ faced many delays. The movie was supposed to come out this year, but early test screenings got very negative feedback. This led to major reshoots, delaying the release by nearly a year. It is now set to come out on February 15, 2025.
The test audiences were reportedly unhappy with the action in the movie, saying it wasn’t as good as in previous Captain America movies. The romance between Anthony Mackie and the female co-lead was uninteresting, and the political themes were boring rather than exciting and engaging.
The movie is now undergoing reshoots in Atlanta, expected to last around 22 days. Matthew Orton was hired to write the script for the reshoots, and some big names have joined the cast, including Giancarlo Esposito in an unknown villain role.
Interestingly, even with extensive reshoots, the movie won’t cost as much as ‘The Marvels...

We know that ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ was stuck in a development hell for quite some time. The movie was supposed to be released this year but after early test screenings proved to have overwhelmingly negative feedback, the flick was scheduled for a massive round of reshoots.
This delayed it for close to a year, now it’s set to be released on February 15, 2025.
The test audiences were reportedly unhappy with the action in the movie, considering it subpar when compared to previous Captain America movies. The romance between Anthony Mackie and the female co-lead was flat at best and the political themes of the film weren’t divisive and exciting but boring.
Now the movie is currently undergoing a round of reshoots in Atlanta, and it’s expected that the process will last around 22 days. Matthew Orton was hired to pen the script for the reshoots and some...

Weeks after Emmy nominee Giancarlo Esposito teased that he’d be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe “sooner than you think,” Variety can confirm that he will appear in “Captain America: Brave New World,” which hits theaters next year.
Esposito revealed he’d been cast in a Marvel project during a panel at Ccxp in Brazil earlier this month. There he squashed fan speculation that he’d play Professor X in the widely expected Marvel Cinematic Universe version of “X-Men.”
“There’s something about being original. We’ve seen different versions of Professor X,” Esposito told the crowd. “Wouldn’t you like to see me play a character in a Marvel movie who is original, and new, and fresh? So, mark my words: This will happen sooner than you think.”

Like many 2024 movies, Captain America: Brave New World was caught up in last year's WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes. Much has been made of plans for reshoots and thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we finally have an idea of what's really happening.
Despite claims that huge chunks of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier follow-up are being reshot over several months, the trade confirms this additional photography will last only 22 days.
The plan is to add new action sequences and Julius Onah will remain in the director's chair.
When the strikes ended last November, Captain America: Brave New World moved from July 26, 2024 to February 14, 2025. That reportedly gave Marvel Studios executives additional time to figure out what they wanted from reshoots and to address feedback from test screenings.
As we've previously reported, Moon Knight scribe Matthew Orton was enlisted to write new pages in December and worked on those over the winter.

For anyone worried about the state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this latest news probably isn't going to do much to quell your fears.
The Hollywoood Reporter has news that "Captain America: Brave New World," which will mark the big screen debut of Anthony Mackie as the Sam Wilson version of the star-spangled superhero, will be undergoing 22 days of reshoots. Along with adding new action sequences to the movie, whatever scenes are being reshot will also be bringing a new cast member into the mix.
Giancarlo Esposito, best known for playing the vicious Gus Fring on "Breaking Bad" and Moff Gideon on the "Star Wars" TV series "The Mandalorian," has been cast in what the trade is calling an "undisclosed role," but apparently it will be a villainous role. Giancarlo Esposito has joined the cast of Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: Brave New World” in a villain role as reshoots are underway in Atlanta, according to an insider with knowledge of the project.
Esposito had recently hinted in fan press at being involved with a Marvel Studios project, which will apparently spin-off his character into an upcoming Disney+ show.

The reshoots are scheduled to last 22 days, which will add some new action sequences to the superhero pic. Previously, Marvel brought on writer Matthew Orton back in December to write new material.

According to THR, Captain America: Brave New World has started a round of reshoots in Atlanta, with none other than Giancarlo Esposito joining the cast.
The report states that the reshoots will run for 22 days, with new action sequences being one of the added elements. As for Esposito, his character is being kept under wraps, but sources told THR that it’s a villainous role. The actor has previously teased his involvement in an upcoming Marvel project, hinting that his character is an original creation and “better than you can imagine.” I suppose we’ll see. Esposito has long been rumoured to be a candidate for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with roles such as Professor X brought up as possibilities.

The shoot will run 22 days, according to insiders. Among the added elements will be some new action sequences. Julius Onah remains the director.

Giancarlo Esposito recently confirmed that he had joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe - though not as Professor X - and speculation has been running rampant since.

Not much to go on, but Af did also share a crudely drawn sketch of Esposito's character in his full costume, along with some very interesting new details.

The history of Hollywood adapting video games in movies and TV shows has been a little spotty, to say the least, but in recent years, I think the tide has been turning. With shows like The Last of Us and Fallout, video game fans have developed a little hope to see their favorite adapted into a great piece of art and while there will still be wasted efforts like Netflix’s The Witcher and Paramount+’s Halo, they are still only two shows. So, in keeping with that spirit of hope we created a list of the 10 best TV shows that were adapted from video games, they can be original stories in the world of video games but they have to be connected to the original IP.

The line-up for the new series of Variety’s Actors On Actors has been revealed, with high profile movie performers interviewing each other.
Variety’s Actors On Actors is one of the most delightful series you can watch as a film fan. The central conceit is that two actors sit down for a natter about their work, often going off on tangents, acting as a unique insight into the industry.
Generally, the pairings are quite surprising, with the actors concerned often never having worked together and, in some cases, seeming quite random, but each one is fascinating and, usually, an absolute hoot. You can see Kate Winslet shooting the breeze with Gary Oldman, for example, or Beanie Feldstein with Florence Pugh – we are still waiting for Jason Statham to make an appearence.

Reshoots for Captain America: Brave New World are now taking place and we have some fairly unrevealing photos from the movie's set. There's no sign of the cast, but a filming permit reveals potential spoilers for Sam Wilson's first solo outing.
The plan is to shoot an action sequence that will see Sam's car stopped by police using spike traps. A shootout follows, with one of the cops taking a bullet and the hero's car eventually exploding.
A hand-to-hand fight will follow, meaning we hopefully get something akin to Captain America: The Winter Soldier's memorable action scenes.
The new Captain America going on the run from the police has already been rumoured, though it sounds like this is either a replacement or addition to a sequence in the CinemaCon trailer with Sam being stopped by the authorities in Washington D.C.

Good afternoon Insiders, Jesse Whittock back again to take you through the week’s news in the entertainment industry, as the Cannes Film Festival nears its close.
What More Cannes I Say?
Stand up for the standouts: After a quiet opening, the Cannes Film Festival received a shot of life as several buzzy titles finally hit the screen. The excitement on the ground began with The Substance, the much-anticipated blood-splattered horror thriller from French director Coralie Fargeat, which was met with a 13-minute ovation, the longest for a title at this year’s festival until Gilles Lellouche’s Beating Hearts (L’Amour Ouf) took that crown last night. Fargeat’s pic, which stars Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid, is a punk rock fable centered around a new product called The Substance that promises to transform people into the best version of themselves. It’s an offer that comes with a twist.

Netflix is in talks to acquire one of the most talked about titles at this year’s Cannes Film Festival: Emilia Pérez.
The movie, from writer-director Jacques Audiard, follows a cartel leader who hires an undervalued lawyer to help him withdraw from his business and realize a plan he has been secretly preparing for years, to transition into a woman.
Zoe Saldaña stars in the film, along with Selena Gomez and Edgar Ramirez, with breakout Karla Sofia Gascón as the title character.
The film earned a warm Cannes reception with a long standing ovation and near universal praise from critics.
The Hollywood Reporter‘s review reads: “The baseline is a drama of criminality and redemption, but then there’s an unforced current of Almodóvarian humor, along with moments of melodrama, noir, social realism, a hint of telenovela camp and a climactic escalation into suspense, ultimately touched by tragedy. Netflix has landed John Lee Hancock’s fact-based legal drama feature Monsanto.
Glen Powell, Anthony Mackie and Laura Dern star in the high-profile package that was acquired at this year’s Cannes film market.
Hancock (The Blind Side) directs the movie from a script he wrote with Michael Wisner, Alexandra Duparc and Ned Benson. Producers on the film include Moritz Borman, Eric Kopeloff, Jon Levin, Philip Schulz-Deyle, Adam McKay and Kevin Messick.
Monsanto centers on the true story of untested attorney Brent Wisner (Powell) taking on the chemical company Monsanto on behalf of client Dewayne “Lee” Johnson (Mackie), a groundskeeper who used the brand’s weed-killing product Roundup. Dern plays Dr. Melinda Rogers, Monsanto’s chief toxicologist.
CAA Media Finance handled the movie’s U.S. rights and negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers, while Rocket Science repped international rights and introduced the project at Cannes.

Netflix has acquired the legal drama “Monsanto,” a buzzy package from this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
John Lee Hancock directed the movie, which stars Glen Powell, Anthony Mackie and Laura Dern.
“Monsanto” tells the true story of young upstart lawyer Brent Wisner (Powell), who took on the court case against the giant U.S. chemical company Monsanto on behalf of Dewayne “Lee” Johnson (Mackie). Johnson used the company’s product Roundup, a top-selling weed and grass pesticide killer, as part of his job as a high school groundskeeper. During the trial, Monsanto Company’s chief toxicologist Dr. Melinda Rogers (Dern), testifies that Roundup is safe. Hancock also wrote the screenplay with Michael Wisner, Alexandra Duparc.
“I was drawn to this contemporary David vs. Goliath true story because I found it dramatic, moving, quite funny and of critical importance in today’s world,” Hancock said prior to the film’s sale.

Like any good superhero, Marvel Television has returned from the dead. The label is what the Marvel Netflix shows like "Daredevil" and the ABC ones like "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." were made under. Marvel Television was rendered defunct in 2019 after Marvel Studios absorbed it. Now, though its operations remain under the studio's purview, its name is being used again as part of an effort to more cleanly delineate the projects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel Studios will continue to be the label of the films, while Marvel Television will headline upcoming Disney+ programs like "Agatha All Along" and "Daredevil: Born Again." Marvel Animation will cover projects like the excellent "X-Men '97" (which is not part of the MCU), while Marvel Spotlight is for small-scale projects like "Echo" (read our review here).

British authorities have granted Julian Assange leave to appeal his U.S. extradition order in a victory for the WikiLeaks founder amid his ongoing legal battle.
The two U.K. judges deferred a decision in March on whether Assange, who is hoping to avoid being prosecuted in the States over espionage charges, could take his case to another appeal hearing.
The 52-year-old had been granted an appeal only if the Biden administration was unable to provide the court with suitable assurances, including that he is ensured freedom of speech protections and will not receive the death penalty.
The decision follows a British court ruling in April 2022 that Assange could be sent to the U.S. That ruling came after a legal battle that went all the way to the U.K. Supreme Court. Assange’s appeal was his only remaining legal avenue in the U.K. justice system.

“I want to give the fans what they want, just not the way they think they want it,” declares “Twisted Metal” co-creator and showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith about all of the pressures and expectations that are inherent in adapting a beloved video game. For our recent webchat he adds, “It’s a tough challenge, especially with the video game community, who are extremely outspoken. I made jokes before the show came out that I hope I don’t get doxxed,” he laughs. “The one benefit of ‘Twisted Metal,’ being a fan of the games, is that they always changed every iteration, like no two iterations were the same, so that kind of gave us a license, so to speak, to change it up a little bit, and that’s how I approached it. We have these characters Sweet Tooth, John Doe and Calypso. How would these characters exist in this...

‘What If…?’ brought a breath of fresh air to the MCU. Despite the first season receiving mixed reactions from fans, it was successful enough to justify additional seasons and expand the multiverse, drawing inspiration from several notable storylines.
Season 2 was released in an unconventional way, with episodes dropping over nine days like holiday gifts for fans to unwrap.
It’s been rumored for some time that ‘What If…?’ Season 3 will be the show’s final season, particularly following the recent departure of the head writer for other projects. In a recent interview with ComicBook, Brad Winderbaum, head of animation, seemingly confirmed this by describing Season 3 as “a culmination of the trilogy.”

Watching movies on the big screen is an indulgence these days. Everyone prefers sitting in their homes, opening Netflix or Prime or any other streaming site, and watching whatever they feel like. But seems like viewers will have to indulge a little more than usual if they want to experience movies and not just watch them. Just ask Christopher Nolan, and he can tell you all about the IMAX experience.

If you’ve been keeping up with distribution news recently, there’s been one name you’ll have seen pop up again and again: Vertical.
Since the pandemic, the bottom has fallen out of the film business, with more quality indie packages hitting the marketplace than there are distributors willing to take them on. Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan are going on a wild ride with Apple.
The tech giant and streamer has landed 12 12 12, a scripted thriller described as a “contemporary international heist” series. The streamer is nearing a formal series greenlight for the project that will reunite stars Mackie and Dornan after the 2019 feature Synchronic.
12 12 12 takes place over three timelines in a heist — the 12 months of planning to raid a bank vault beneath the streets of Zurich, the 12 hours of the actual heist and the 12 days after it. The drama revolves around an FBI agent (Mackie) and a career criminal (Dornan), who play a cat-and-mouse game across Europe.
Dudi Appleton and Jim Keeble (Silent Witness, Wild Bill) created and wrote the series. The duo will exec produce alongside Kari Skogland (Falcon and the Winter Soldier), who will direct the pilot.

The Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan heist series “12 12 12” has landed at Apple TV+ and is nearing a series order, Variety has learned exclusively.
The series was first reported to be on the market back in January. Mackie and Dornan will both star in the series in addition to executive producing.
The official logline for the series states that it follows “a disgraced FBI agent (Mackie) and an American career criminal (Dornan) who play a zero-sum game of cat and mouse across Europe. At the center of it all is the daring, epic raid on a bank vault deep beneath the streets of Zurich.” The series will take place across three timelines — the 12 months prior to the heist, the 12 hours of the heist, and the 12 days after.
The series is created by Dudi Appleton and Jim Keeble, who will also executive produce. Kari Skogland will direct the pilot and executive produce.

Following delays caused by last year's WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Captain America: Brave New World is set to be released in theaters next February.
Sam Wilson is expected to square off with Red Hulk, but somewhere in the background, The Leader is thought to be pulling the strings. Played by Tim Blake Nelson, the villain hasn't been seen in the MCU since 2008's The Incredible Hulk when his transformation was first teased by Marvel Studios.
In a recent interview with Michael Rosenbaum, Nelson addressed his return as Samuel Sterns when he said, "I'm very happy about it. It's a wonderfully directed movie by Julius Onah."
"I can tell you about my character that we did everything we could, and this was entirely supported by Marvel and I'm so grateful to Kevin Feige and Nate Moore for supporting this: they were on board 100% to do the character as practically as...
