As a famous filmmaker has said over and over again: Animation is cinema. When he isn't spreading the good news of scary cinematic monsters or publicly expressing his support for Greta Gerwig's "Barbie," you can usually find director Guillermo del Toro standing up for the under-appreciated virtues of animation. "Thankless" doesn't even begin to describe the superhuman work that goes into the creation of any animated movie or show, to say nothing of the fact that writers in this medium aren't even eligible for inclusion among the Writers Guild of America So in the spirit of solidarity and celebration amid the ongoing...

Mix tapes are a delicate science. Nick Hornby declared as much in his 1995 novel "High Fidelity," wherein he pontificated on the proper placement of songs, the flow of one song into another, and his intense concerns as to what kind of messages a properly thought-out playlist would communicate to the intended recipient. To quote:
"To me, making a tape is like writing a letter. There's a lot of erasing and rethinking and starting again. A good compilation tape, like breaking up, is hard to do."
As Sarah Vowell once said on "This American Life," a homemade tape is a work of friendship. And...

In 2004 Pixar Animation Studios relished the glory days of superhero fiction in The Incredibles, which had the throwback style of a comic strip, with the memorably Jazzy score and a collection of unforgettable characters. In the years since then, the film’s relatable reflections of family life and engaging action have made it a bit of a favourite among some fans, who have passionately craved a sequel. However, director Brad Bird has remained steadfast – despite being asked countlessly – that he would only do a sequel if the story were right. Well, 14 years on and with the hype train full to busting, Incredibles 2 is finally here and thankfully, the wait was more than worth it!

The sequel to the animated masterpiece about a family with world-saving superpowers is just as thrilling and just as much fun
The Incredibles, like The Simpsons, are eternally the same age, although for them the miracle has been brought off by just starting the sequel at the exact point the first movie left off. We are still in the Lbj 60s, superheroes are still illegal and the Incredibles’ stroppy teen daughter Violet (voiced by Sarah Vowell) is on the verge of dating that nice boy she met in school.
It is indeed incredible to think that the first film came out in 2004, just before the Marvel Studios explosion of fan-oriented superhero films changed the cultural weather, creating an audience for whom the Incredibles’ uncanonical characters and satirical deconstruction of superhero conventions are not entirely cool, however affectionately intended. But The Incredibles is for me still the greatest film from the...

Pixar don’t really do bad sequels. I mean, we’re not counting Cars because sometimes it’s best to just forget – but follow up features to the likes of Toy Story, Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc. have all been hugely successful, and thoroughly enjoyable endeavours. The Incredibles 2 now joins that list – and when we interviewed Holly Hunter, who reprises her role as Elastigirl, she explained that she had faith that the studio wouldn’t disappoint.
We also met the brains behind the whole project Brad Bird, who was sat alongside producers John Walker and Nicole Grindle, as we discussed how this whole project came into fruition. They also tell us the story of how, and why the supervillain in the movie changed during the course of production.
We ask Hunter what it’s like for her kids to know their mother is a superhero, and what makes this family so appealing to audiences.

The long awaited sequel to one of Pixar’s greatest hits landed in London yesterday amid a heatwave which necessitated the observance of the old adage: No capes! But the red carpet Brad Bird’s Incredible 2 brought with it two of the stars of the show: Samuel L. Jackson and Holly Hunter.
Colin Hart and Scott Davis were our superheroes on the press line yesterday and they spoke to the actors about returning to the roles thirteen years on, and Jackson gave us a little on his return to the M. Night Shyamalan-i-verse for the Unbreakable sequel Glass.
Joining Samuel Jackson, and Holly Hunter in the voice cast are Pixar’s lucky charm John Ratzenberger, Craig T. Nelson and Sarah Vowell.
Incredible 2 is released in the UK on the 13th of July.

(Note: This post contains some spoilers for “The Incredibles 2.”)
In “The Incredibles 2,” the heroic family at the center of the movie boasts a slew of impressive superpowers that apparently stem from their genetic makeup. And the most powerful of all is also the youngest (and tiniest): Infant son Jack-Jack, whose powers were a secret from his family (but not from the audience) in the original “The Incredibles.”
Bob, a.k.a. “Mr. Incredible” (Craig T. Nelson), and Helen, a.k.a “Elastigirl” (Holly Hunter) their super-speed-powered son Dash (Huck Milner) and invisibility-force field generating daughter Violet (Sarah Vowell) spent the entire run of the first “Incredibles” movie thinking baby Jack-Jack (Eli Fucile) was just a normal human. Audiences were in on the joke, though, seeing some of Jack-Jack’s special abilities onscreen toward the end of that movie.

The opening weekend of “Incredibles 2” was, well, incredible.
The Disney-Pixar movie flew to a record-breaking launch of $180 million in 4,410 locations, easily landing the superhero sequel the best debut of all time for an animated film. That title was previously held by fellow Pixar sequel “Finding Dory,” which bowed with $135 million in 2016. “Incredibles 2” also landed the eighth-biggest domestic opening of all time, and surpassed 2017’s “Beauty and the Beast” ($174.6 million) for the best debut for a PG-rated film.
Pixar’s 20th film easily won the weekend over new titles “Tag” and “Superfly,” which premiered with $14.6 million and $8.4 million respectively. However, those releases weren’t enough to grab the No. 2 spot from “Ocean’s 8’s” $19.5 million second weekend.
Overseas, “Incredibles 2” collected $51.5 million, where it has opened in 26% of the international market, for a worldwide start of $231.5 million.
Its predecessor, “The Incredibles,” opened in 2004 with $70.5 million, the second-largest...

Disney’s most recent estimate is more conservative, predicting an opening between $160 million and $170 million. Either way, “Incredibles 2” will become the animated film with the highest ever opening weekend, beating out 2016’s “Finding Dory,” which brought in $135 million.

Superhero fatigue is growing. Honestly, I don’t think I could handle another Marvel movie right now as I still haven’t gotten over the ending of Infinity War. But, I knew that my bitterness wouldn’t apply to Incredibles 2 because if it was anything like the first one, it would transcend the genre. And simply put, it did. Developing on the themes of the original while also taking steps in new directions, this sequel makes you forget that these were the same people who made Cars 2.

The pinnacle of modern animation can be found within the 20 releases put out by Pixar. Ever since they started up with A Bug’s Life, their films have been hotly anticipated, both by critics and audiences alike. Now, with Incredibles 2 hitting theaters, they’ve continued an all but unparalleled run of excellence. Their lows haven’t been especially low, in particular when compared to the competition, while their highs have been a number of instant classics. Any list of the best animation of the last 50 years has got to include multiple efforts of theirs. That, if nothing else, succinctly sums up why this company does it better than anyone else right now. They are on a different level, plain and simple. What sets Pixar apart from everyone else is the way that they appeal to both adults and children in equal measure. They make you laugh just as often as they make you cry.

New additions to the A-list cast include Sophia Bush, Catherine Keener, Bob Odenkirk and Isabella Rossellini. So, where does Pixar's 20th feature...

“Incredibles 2” will give the North American box office a nice boost this weekend as the Disney and Pixar animated superhero sequel is looking at a broad range between $125 million-$140 million when it bows at over 4,400 locations. A launch near the higher end of that estimate would earn the highly anticipated adventure the best opening weekend ever for an animated film.
That title currently belongs to another Pixar sequel, “Finding Dory.” The followup to 2003’s “Finding Nemo” launched in 2016 with $135 million and went on to pick up $486 million in North America and over $1 billion worldwide.
Like “Finding Dory,” enthusiasm has been strong for the sequel, which comes 14 years after its predecessor, “The Incredibles.” Early reception seems strong, as the film already boasts a 97% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That’s on par with the acclaimed first film’s 97% average.

The sequel to the hit 2004 animated film, The Incredibles, is finally here—but was it worth the 14-year wait?! According to critics, yes, Incredibles 2 was well worth the wait. Written and directed by Brad Bird, the family-friendly film picks up not long after the ending of the first film, but this time around it's more future-focused and female-driven than ever before. In the sequel, Elastigirl/Helen Parr (Holly Hunter) is the main superhero, while Mr. Incredible/Bob Parr (Craig T. Nelson) stays at home to take care of their kids, Violet (Sarah Vowell), Dash (Huckleberry Milner) and baby Jack-Jack (Eli Fucile). The Parrs are still illegal but when the siblings behind a...

It really is incredible. Yes, the sequel to Brad Bird's 2004 classic is not the groundbreaker that stormed the multiplex 14 years ago – you only get to be shiny new once. Pixar's animated miracle didn't look or sound like anything else, being about a family of superheroes forced into retirement by a legal system that didn't care for the collateral damage caused by their do-gooding antics. How many family films dealt with midlife crisis, marital dysfunction, child neglect, impotence fears, fashion faux pas and existential angst? But this follow-up is...

The reviews are in for “Incredibles 2” and some critics say it is the best superhero movie to date.
“Prior to this latest effort, Brad Bird made what can unequivocally be called two of Pixar’s best movies,” said CinemaBlend’s Eric Eisenberg. “Now that statement can be updated to say that he’s made three of Pixar’s best.”
The Epoch Times’ Mark Jackson wrote, “‘Incredibles 2 is not only one of Pixar’s best movies ever, but also arguably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.”

Hollywood Heroes™: For years, the one product that fans have been begging Pixar to put into production is a sequel to The Incredibles. As other properties have been given one or even two sequels, this film of theirs has remained untouched. This week, however, that all changes. Incredibles 2 is hitting screens, and having seen it last week, I can gladly report that this is closer to a Toy Story outing than a Cars outing. Pixar has never fully swung and missed, but their franchise outings have been hit or miss. This is a huge hit though, and in some ways even better than the original. The flick is a followup to the original outing, The Incredibles. Our favorite superhero family from the first one is back, again consisting of patriarch Bob Parr / Mr. Incredible (voice of Craig T. Nelson), matriarch Helen Parr / Elastigirl (voice of Holly Hunter), daughter...

Finally!! Hallelujah!! It’s about time!! And some other assorted exclamations, etcetera. You animation/comic book fans know what I’m saying. The year was 2004, nine years after Pixar had turned the world of feature animation on its ear with the ground-breaking (first) Toy Story. After breathing life into the toys, along with bugs, fish, and “bump-in-the-night” monsters, they were tackling a story that mainly consisted of human beings, No, better than “puny” humans, superheroes (to avoid copyrights on that phrase they were “supers”). The Incredibles was a box office smash, but the sequel “go ahead” was never given, it seemed. Pixar continued to bring out the hits and collect lots of Oscar gold. And several of those flicks got their follow-ups. There was a third Toy Story (a fourth’s in the works), which may be the best of those “returns”. But fans wanted to get another romp with the Parr family.

We’ve been swimming in movie sequels for close to 40 years now. Yet for all the deluge of cinematic déjà vu, all the middling rehashes and (yes) the fun, rousing, and genuinely imaginative second, third, or fourth chapters, there is one category of Hollywood sequel that remains so elite — and so rare — that we hardly even think about it. And that’s the sequel to an unabashedly great movie.
I don’t mean great in the fanboy sense of “Did you see [fill in the title of the last Marvel film] ? It was great!” I’m not even talking about beloved popcorn touchstones like “Die Hard” or “Scream” or “The Bourne Identity.” I’m talking about movies of singular and awesome artistry, like “The Godfather” or “Star Wars” or “Night of the Living Dead” or “Toy Story.” When a sequel gets made to one of those, it’s axiomatic that you want — and almost expect — it to be a great movie,...

Whether you find the dominance of superhero pictures a glut or a bonanza, a cause for artistic concern or a boon to the movie business, the prospect of a sequel to “The Incredibles” always seemed to glide above that fray: Brad Bird’s whizbang 2004 Pixar feature about a nuclear/power family was atomic entertainment that in the years before our Marvel age felt like its own thrilling, funny, stylish universe.
Wanting more of the Parrs at a time when the animation studio was careful about follow-ups, and when Bird was eager to flex his fantasy-tinged stories of exceptionalism with culinary cartoon vermin (“Ratatouille”) and Imagineered live action (“Tomorrowland”), seemed like greediness from us mere moviegoing mortals.
But lately, with “Finding Dory,” “Monsters University,” “Cars 3” and the upcoming “Toy Story 4,” Pixar’s been quite Ok mining its past to mint its present. And now Bird is in greatest-hits mode with “Incredibles 2,...

In a film that isn’t particularly full of bold choices, “Incredibles 2” starts with a doozy: It picks up right where the first one left off, seeming to ignore the fact that a lot has happened in the 14 years since Brad Bird first joined forces with Pixar. The world is no longer the same place that it was in 2004, and the state of its superhero movies is similarly unrecognizable from what it was back then. Faster than a speeding bullet, the genre has become a major engine of the modern Hollywood machine, and the idea of a world without superheroes is now as unfathomable to us as it always was to Mr. Incredible, himself.

We've got another funny clip for you to watch from Pixar's Incredibles 2 that fans are sure to enjoy. He just needs a little help so he called in his old pal Frozone to show him what he's been dealing with.
In Incredibles 2, Helen (Holly Hunter) is called on to lead a campaign to bring Supers back, while Bob (Craig T. Nelson) navigates the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life at home with Violet (Sarah Vowell), Dash (Huck Milner) and baby Jack-Jack—whose super powers are about to be discovered. For “Incredibles” writer and director Brad Bird, a sequel to the hit 2004 film was inevitable, as the family of superheroes “never really left me. The most fun I’ve ever had making a movie was making the first ‘Incredibles’ and so I always intended to come back.”
Now, 14 years later, the adventures of Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl and their three super-powered children — Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack — continue in “Incredibles 2,” with the new Pixar film picking up exactly where the original left off. Bird, who also voices fan-favorite character Edna Mode, said it was an essential choice to not jump the story forward into the future.
“I’m not interested in making that movie because I chose the powers around the roles that the characters had in the family,” Bird told Variety at the film’s Los Angeles premiere on Tuesday. “Fathers are always expected to be strong so I made him super strong.

Villains. What’s a Super to do? As “The Incredibles” adventure came to an edge-of-your-seat finale, Syndrome was foiled—thanks to baby Jack-Jack and an ill-advised cape—and his jet exploded into a fiery ball, destroying the Parr family home. But the family was more bonded than ever; Violet showed off her newfound confidence, and Dash discovered that second place would do just fine. It seemed like a happily-ever-after ending until someone called the Underminer declared “war on peace and happiness.”
Nearly a decade and a half later, fans will learn the fate of the Underminer when “Incredibles 2” opens in U.S. theaters on June 15. When “The Incredibles” first burst onto the big screen, Mr. Incredible’s super strength and Elastigirl’s stretchy flexibility wowed audiences around the globe—the film grossed more than $633 million worldwide, earning an Oscar® for best animated film.

Brad Bird’s long-awaited “Incredibles 2” is set for a theatrical release in China on June 22. The franchise’s first installment was released worldwide in 2004 and in China in 2005.
“Incredibles 2” is produced in 2D and 3D versions by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. Revenue sharing imports of Hollywood films are handled in China by state-owned distributors.
Unusually for China, the film is expected to be screened with a Pixar-made short film ahead of the main feature. The short, “Bao” which means bun in Chinese, is a story of a lonely Chinese mother and a steamed bun.
The timing puts the China release a week behind the North American outing on June 15, and some Asian territories including Hong Kong, Singapore and The Philippines on June 14, but still in the first wave of releases. The film does not play in the U.K. until July 13, and in Japan until Aug.

This June has no shortage of potential summer-movie crowd-pleasers, from the return of Pixar's unstoppable super-family to a heist packed with famous faces to a cataclysmic meltdown featuring gigantic, genetically-altered dinosaurs. Thankfully, if blockbusters aren't your bag, you're also getting a cavalcade of Sundance favorites heading your way, including a doc on public television's unstoppable real-life superhero and a cataclysmic horror-movie meltdown featuring a hell-hath-no-fury Toni Collette. Here's what you'll be seeing at (hopefully air-conditioned) theater near you this month.

We've got a fantastically fun new international trailer for you to watch for Pixar's Incredibles two and it's packed with some great action-packed new footage! There are a lot of fans excited about this long-awaited sequel and according to Variety, the film is going to have a huge opening at the box office. They say that it will make at least $140 million domestically on its opening weekend, which is pretty impressive. It shouldn't really be a surprise that this movie is going to be a huge hit. The question is, will Disney and Pixar want to make another sequel? If they do, I hope they don't wait as long!
Incredibles 2 picks up right where the first movie left off when the Underminer comes up to attack the city. The whole opening sequence is the Incredibles family trying to stop him and it's a really great scene that sets the stage for the film.

"So things haven't spiraled out of control the moment I left?" Disney has debuted another new 60-second "sneak peek" TV trailer for Pixar's Incredibles 2, and it contains a few more scenes of unseen footage. We keep seeing more and more in extra trailers, and the more footage we see, the more excited I get. I have a good feeling this might just be amazing, and we barely have any real sense of the plot because Pixar usually likes to keep it all a big secret (especially whatever happens in the second half). Craig T. Nelson is back to voice Bob, with Holly Hunter, Samuel L. Jackson, and Sarah Vowell. At this point, I'm ready to just watch this movie and find out what is going on here before any more of it is revealed in more TV spots and trailers. This new footage is also an announcement that...

Disney has released a new TV spot for Pixar's Incredibles 2 and features some new footage that fans will be interesting in seeing. Not only do we get to see another Jack-Jack power, with him multiplying, but we also get a first look at a few new Supers jumping into action. Those Supers include He-Lectrix, Voyd, with Brick in the background. You can find out more about these characters here. When talking about Voyd, Brad Bird said that she's a huge fan of Elastigirl, and that her "infatuation with Helen Parr has become quite passionate over the years, leading to a sort of manic obsession." He goes on to explain:
"There's a character named Voyd who's a new superhero, and she admires Helen and is kind of a Helen groupie. I described her to the animators as like, we had this dog that was this very big, powerful dog...

Disney has released a full-length Japanese trailer for Pixar's Incredibles 2, which is known as Incredible Family in Japan (the first movie was titled simply Mr. Incredible or Misutâ inkurediburu in Japanese). Obviously all the family tension, but there's clearly a big battle with the Underminer in this, who first appears at the end of the original movie. And this trailer also seems to hint at a big plot point involving Elastigirl. Craig T. Nelson is back to voice Bob, with Holly Hunter, Samuel L. Jackson, and Sarah Vowell. I can't wait to see this! Looking better and better the more we get to see.

Disney has released a Japanese trailer for Pixar's Incredibles 2 and it's definitely worth watching because it's packed full of awesome new action-packed footage that you'll want to see! I recently got to see the opening sequence of the movie at CinemaCon this week.
