The Voice of Helen Mirren will Make Glee
How is this for unusual but delightful casting news? Glee is getting a tried a true star, a real Hollywood royal, so to speak. But Dame Helen Mirren won’t necessarily be seen. You’ll hear her voice, however! Allow us to explain.
The insanely popular vocal Fox series, Glee, knows how to use a celeb guest star to their advantage. They can wow fans for sure. So, what’s a creative way to utilize an Oscar winning first lady of screen and stage? Just steal her voice!
TV Line confirms Glee guest star Helen Mirren, will act as the “inner voice” of a character who has yet to be revealed. If I have the scenario right, we will see one actress, but hear Mirren in voice over. I wish my consciousness had a British accent.
In 2010 Mirren portrayed Prospera in The Tempest and Victoria in Red.

Chicago – It’s little surprise that Jessica Chastain has received so much attention during this year’s awards season. Thanks to a series of release date delays, six of her films were released in 2011, each featuring an entirely different role for the strikingly versatile actress. From her slapstick pratfalls in “The Help” to her ethereal grace in “The Tree of Life,” Chastain displayed a remarkable range that has made it impossible for moviegoers to tear their eyes away from her.
In John Madden’s problematic espionage thriller, “The Debt,” Chastain proves to be every bit as mesmerizing, though the film suffers considerably whenever she’s offscreen. Based on Assaf Bernstein’s 2007 Israeli thriller, “Ha-Hov,” the film cuts back and forth in time as it follows three Mossad agents on their mission to capture a Nazi surgeon. Though the central action takes place in 1965, the film repeatedly jumps 31 years in the...

John Madden might be best known to you for directing acclaimed period films such as Mrs Brown or Shakespeare In Love, but his latest, The Debt, is about as wildly different as you can get from those projects. Even before all of those, though, he was also the man charged with making radio dramas out of the original Star Wars trilogy.

There’s a little film doing the rounds at the moment that you might of heard of….. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. While that film continues to win critical acclaim and draw in huge audiences, there’s another good movie released today that also deals with similar themes of paranoia, conspiracy and deceit. The Debt isn’t quite as meticulous or contemplative as Tinker Tailor, but if that film left you feeling a little cold, The Debt offers a similarly intricate and well-crafted thriller which is far more traditional but doesn’t take its audience for granted.
Jumping between events taking place in 1966 and then the aftermath in 1997, the cleverly constructed narrative is centered around an operation to capture a Nazi war criminal nicknamed “The Surgeon of Birkenau”. Three agents are tasked to extradite the man responsible for conducting inhuman experiments on Jewsish prisoners; Rachel Singer (Jessica Chastain...

Jessica Chastain is to star alongside Tom Cruise in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi film from Universal Pictures.
The project - which has gone by the names Oblivion and Horizons and is now said to be untitled - is set in a future where the Earth's surface has been irradiated beyond recognition and the remnants of humanity live above the clouds, safe from the brutal alien Scavengers that stalk the ruins.
But when surface drone repairman Jak (Cruise) discovers a mysterious woman in a crash-landed pod, it sets off an unstoppable chain of events that will force him to question everything he knows.
The film, which had earlier been dropped by Disney, is being directed by Tron: Legacy's Joseph Kosinski. Production is expected to start this winter, with release set for July 19, 2013.
Variety's report says it's not known whether Chastain will play the wife of Cruise's character or the mysterious woman in the crashed pod.

Game Of Thrones Kingslayer in Horror Flick
Guillermo del Toro is making sure the world stays horrified, one picture at a time, and Game of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, the Danish actor who plays Jaime Lannister in the HBO series, will help him.
Aside from acting as HBO’s Kingslayer, Nikolaj has appeared as the star of his short-lived series New Amsterdam (Hey, I was watching that!), Kingdom of Heaven and Harrirson Ford starrer, Firewall. Now he joins actress Jessica Chastain in the upcoming Guillermo del Toro-produced horror movie, called Mama. Chastain is my new favorite actress. She was sweet, sassy and Southern in The Help and last weekend she kicked butt and took names as young Rachel Singer, one of the lead characters in The Debt. Chastain and Nikolaj are a good pairing, don’t you agree?

The Debt is a painstakingly old-fashioned drama that’s far more interested in the nuances of human behavior than exploitation or pyrotechnics. At the same time, in telling the parallel stories of Mossad agents hunting a Nazi doctor in East Berlin circa 1966 and those same agents dealing with the consequences of that mission 30 years later, John Madden’s film evokes the existential themes that lie at the heart of Israel’s creation. To straddle both those worlds within the constraints of a tightly-wound thriller is a considerable accomplishment. And this eloquent remake of a 2007 Israeli picture with the same name harkens back to the old-fashioned aesthetics of genre movies that mean something, films that are unafraid of drawing out big ideas between familiar lines. The film stars Helen Mirren, Tom Wilkinson and Ciarán Hinds as the older version of agents Rachel Singer, Stephan Gold and David Peretz, who discover that the book has not been written on...

This movie re-enforces the old adage “what goes around comes around.” Or more specifically that it’s always easier to tell the truth than try to keep track of a lie. With John Madden’s (Shakespeaare In Love) new drama/thriller based on an Israeli film from 2007, three people must deal with a ghost form the past that returns to haunt them more than thirty years later. The question becomes whether they can continue their story and keep the past buried.
The film begins in 1997 at the release party for a book that Sarah Gold has written about the capture of the notorious Nazi Dr. Dieter Vogel (a Dr. Mengale-type) by her mother Rachel Singer (Helen Mirren), father Stephan Gold (Tom Wilkinson), and David Peretz (Ciaran Hinds), all former Mossad agents. A recent tragedy causes the former married couple, Rachel and Stephan, to reflect on the true events that inspired the new book.

In the espionage thriller The Debt, Helen Mirren plays retired Mossad agent Rachel Singer, who is hailed as a national hero for killing former Nazi officer Dieter Vogel. Dubbed “the surgeon of Birkenau,” Vogel is wanted for heinous medical experiments he performed on concentration camp prisoners.
A jagged scar across her cheek serves as a physical reminder of her face-off with the monster, and she touches it tenderly as the film opens thirty years later. A reading of her daughter’s book on the mission elicits flashes of the past, at first, before the nerve-rattling ordeal comes flooding back.
Specifically to Berlin, 1965, where Young Rachel (played by Jessica Chastain) was part of a trio of Mossad agents tasked with capturing Vogel. In an intense sequence of events, she, along with Stephan (Marton Csokas) and David (Sam Worthington), manages to identify, capture, and house the Nazi, until Vogel wriggles free of his restraints,...

The Debt
Directed by: John Madden
Cast: Helen Mirren, Sam Worthington, Tom Wilkinson
Running Time: 1 hr 54 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: August 31, 2011
Plot: Retired Mossad agents Rachel (Mirren), Stefan (Wilkinson) and David (Hinds) look back on a mission they undertook in 1966 when they tried to track down a Nazi war criminal in East Berlin.
Who’S It For? It’s a top-notch intelligent thriller, with great drama and a touch of romance.
Expectations: I saw the poster and saw the cast, that’s all I knew. I didn’t even know Mirren and Chastain both play Rachel at different times in her life.
Scorecard (0-10)

Central to the espionage thriller The Debt (opening in Austin theaters today) is the notion of physical and psychological captivity. In this relentlessly taught, gripping tale, directed by John Madden, the characters are hostages; one is physically bound by the others, but all are prisoners of their own consciences.
The story of three agents of the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad assigned to capture a Nazi war criminal, The Debt opens in 1997, when retired agents Rachel Singer (Helen Mirren) and Stephan Gold (Tom Wilkinson) are dealing with tragic news about their former colleague, David Peretz (Ciarán Hinds). Peretz's fate unearths an ugly history of lies and subterfuge involving all three agents, forcing Singer and Gold to confront their pasts.
For decades, the nation of Israel has venerated Singer, Gold and Peretz for a mission they undertook in 1965, when they tracked down Nazi war criminal Dieter Vogel (Jesper Christensen). Known as the Surgeon of Birkenau,...

There is a fantastic film in The Debt. With a director like John Madden behind the camera, it’s a bit surprising that he didn’t churn out something of a higher caliber, especially when there’s plenty of scenes that show signs of a competent, meticulous storyteller at work. And, sure enough, when those scenes play out – a tense train station sequence in particular – they outweigh the film’s less impressive qualities.
The Debt tells the story of three Mossad agents – Rachel Singer (Jessica Chastain), David Peretz (Sam Worthington) and Stephan Gold (Marton Csokas) – hunting down a Nazi war criminal in 1965. It’s a promising hook, and the script (initially scribed by Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman, then worked on by Madden and Peter Straughan) delivers on that promise, but only in 1965. Everything involving that mission is tightly paced, suitably claustrophobic and keenly aware of the gray area of each character’s motivations.

Helen Mirren and Jessica Chastain play a Mossad agent that has to come to terms with her actions in The Debt, John Madden’s (Shakespeare In Love, Mrs. Brown) latest piece of low-key drama. But unlike his earlier pieces that dealt with serious decisions people make in their day-to-day lives, The Debt deals with life-or-death decisions made in the hopes of settling a Debt that could never truly be repaid.
The Debt is a remake of the 2007 film of the same name, but with a star-studded cast, and probably a much higher budget. But the story is much the same; in 1997 Rachel Singer, a Mossad agent that has become famous in Israel for her part in the capture of “The Surgeon of Treblinka” in 1966 (with the help of fellow agents Stephan Gold and David Peretz) finds out that the “surgeon” is still alive. All those years ago, the three agents...

Jessica Chastain continues her breakout summer playing a Mossad agent in search of a Nazi war criminal. Spy games are often the domain of men named Bourne and Bond but The Debt director John Madden places the spotlight on a troubled female Mossad agent named Rachel Singer (played by Helen Mirren and Jessica Chastain at different times in the character’s life) and she’s as fascinating and tough as any male spy. Madden and screenwriters Matthew Vaughn, Jane Goldman and Peter Straughan distinguish The Debt from other espionage thrillers by adding a strong moral element to its story, what one might call a “woman’s touch,” and the results are tense and dramatically rich. Sure, there’s plenty of action and brutal hand-to-hand combat in The Debt. There’s also something extra, themes involving guilt and false heroism that make The Debt better than many other espionage adventures...

Hats off to this fine, fine actress!

*** Her subdued acting where you can practically see emotions flutter across her face
*** What attracted her to play Rachel Singer in the movie?
*** She.s the only American actor in the ensemble! Go USA! :happy
*** How she explored the thread of continuity with Helen Mirren
*** Working with the Queen herself, Miss Mirren
*** How she used Krav Maga to prepare for the action scenes of the film

A new trailer has been released for Academy Award–nominated director John Madden's (Killshot) new movie, The Debt, a remake of the Israeli thriller HaHov. Written by Jane Goldman, Matthew Vaughn, and Peter Straughan, the movie stars Academy Award–winner Helen Mirren as Rachel Singer, a former Mossad agent who comes out of retirement to track down and kill Nazi war criminal Dieter Vogel (Jesper Christensen), "The Surgeon of Birkenau," who has surfaced in a small Ukrainian town 35 years after she supposedly shot and killed him. The story unfolds in both the '60s — with Jessica Chastain as young Rachel and Sam Worthington and Marton Csokas as her Nazi-hunting Mossad partners, David and Stefan, respectively — and in the '00s, with Ciarán Hinds and Tom Wilkinson playing the elder David and Stefan.

An international poster has been released for tense thriller, The Debt. The film has a top notch cast, including Helen Mirren, Sam Worthington and Tom Wilkinson and could just be a nice little surprise hit when released in August. The film is directed by “Shakespeare In Love” helmer, John Madden and written by Matthew Vaughn, Jane Goldman and Peter Straughan.
The film hit trouble when Miramax closed it’s doors last year, finding itself without a distribution date. Thankfully Focus Features will now be distributing the film.
I say thankfully because it’s one worth having on the radar. With it’s stellar cast and it’s foreboding story, it could well be perfect awards fodder and a great thriller. It’s the story of a trio of Israeli Mossad agents. 30 years ago they tried, and failed, to capture and kill a Nazi war criminal whose crimes led to the...

Dame Helen Mirren says her tough new role in The Debt should allow viewers to move on from her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in Stephen Frears' 2006 drama.
"This role is very different," she said on the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival.
"Whenever I play something I'm just longing and praying for something completely different to come along.
"After playing the Queen, for a while people thought I was the Queen, and I'm significantly not the Queen!"
She was speaking before a special gala screening of The Debt, in which she plays former Mossad agent Rachel Singer who must go back undercover to track down a notorious Nazi war criminal.
The 65-year-old gets her own fight scene in the action thriller, a remake of a 2007 Israeli film of the same name.

I read that Sam Worthington just started a production company. Somebody needs to 'splain all this to me, because I'm clearly missing why he's the biggest deal to come down the pike in half a dozen years or so. Blockbuster after blockbuster, so many roles he has turn down movies that eventually go to Johnny Depp, and now a production company to allow for even more vertical integration. He's a brand now.
It's not that I don't think he's talented, just not more talented than everybody else. He might turn a few more doubters' heads with his work in The Debt, a remake of an Israeli film from a few years ago that co-stars Helen Mirren and Ciarán Hinds (both of whom I'd say are more gifted than Sammy). But it's really Mirren's film, from what I can gather. She plays Rachel Singer, an ex-Mossad agent in charge of tracking...
