The DC Extended Universe delivered the odd hit, but for the most part, it's likely to be remembered as a failure. That was evident from most of 2023's offerings and the news of a Dcu reboot from the newly formed DC Studios was welcomed by most fans.
There are lots of reasons to be excited about what's to come, especially with Superman on the horizon. Unlike their predecessors, James Gunn and Peter Safran appear to have a plan and they've already attracted some A-List talent to the overhauled franchise.
That doesn't mean they haven't already made a few mistakes, of course. Even Marvel Studios went through growing pains and, before even a single movie or TV show has launched, we have some concerns about DC Studios' plans for these characters.
We're hoping to be proved wrong, but you can find the Dcu's biggest mistakes by hitting the "Next"/"View List" buttons below.

Glen Powell is sharing his thoughts on playing the role of Batman and has some ideas.
In a new interview with GQ, Powell led a tour around the Warner Bros. Studio lot and came across the Batmobile section.
“I was always a Batman guy,” Powell said. “I would have a wild take on Batman. It definitely would not be like a Matt Reeves tone – it’d probably be closer to [Michael] Keaton.”
The reporter noted that Powell doesn’t have any interest in playing a superhero. When Powell found Keaton’s Batmobile, he said, “Oh, sick! See? This is the era.”
Powell does have a history in the DC Universe. In 2012, he was credited as Trader #1 in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.
“I get my head smashed in by Bane in The Dark Knight Rises,” he said.

Back in March, we learned that playwright turned feature scribe Ana Nogueira had been tapped to pen the Teen Titans screenplay after impressing studio bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran with her work on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Nogueira was quietly hired to pen a Supergirl movie for Warner Bros. when the studio was developing a Sasha Calle-led The Flash spin-off. The Scarlet Speedster’s solo outing was in post-production at the time but the project was scrapped when Gunn and Safran took charge of DC Studios and moved on from Walter Hamada’s planned Dceu slate.
DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn has just been asked on Threads about rumours Teen Titans will begin shooting in late 2024. The Superman helmer has yet to confirm the project is in development and responded with "No" when the question about that start date was put to him.

Glen Powell is one of the fastest-rising stars today thanks to his roles in Top Gun: Maverick and Anyone But You, both successful box office hits. It’s not a wonder anymore if the actor wants to join a superhero franchise as it remains the most popular genre in the film business.

John Cena made his debut as Christopher Smith, aka Peacemaker, in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, before going on to headline his own spin-off series. Peacemaker was a big success for Warner Bros./DC, and a second season is currently in production for the Max streaming service.
Gunn has already confirmed that Peacemaker season 2 will be set after the events of Superman Legacy, and that the movie will "have an impact" on the show. Does this mean we can expect to see Smith or some other Peacemaker characters appear in the Dcu Man of Steel reboot?
Cena was asked about the possibility of showing up in future Dcu projects during an appearance at Comicpalooza, and while he brilliantly evaded the question, his response did seem to suggest that he may know a little more than he's willing to divulge.

DC Studios has cast Superman and Supergirl, leaving us to wonder who's next. Lanterns appears to be taking shape, while Booster Gold is also said to be close to starting production (rumour has it the title character has secretly been cast).
While we strongly recommend taking the following with a pinch of salt given the source, Film Front claims to have learned who the three frontrunners are to play the Dcu's Booster Gold.
Bigger stories than this have been broken by smaller outlets in the past, and that's why we're not completely dismissing the story!
According to the site, Dylan Playfair, Fionn Whitehead, and Patrick Schwarzenegger are all screen-testing for the role of Booster. It's unclear which of them has potentially been cast or even whether any of them are still in the running.

Glen Powell is "optimistic" about his 'Captain Planet' film coming to the big screen. The 35-year-old actor has been attached to star as the superhero in a movie produced by Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way company since 2016 and continues to hold out hope that the project will eventually be made.Asked if the 'Captain Planet' movie will ever come to fruition, Glen told Collider: "God, I freaking hope so."Trust me, we have been working hard on that one for a long time. I'm optimistic about his future, but you never know the timeline."The 'Top Gun: Maverick' actor stressed last year that he was determined to portray the environmentalist superhero despite the lack of progress on the movie's development.Powell said: "Captain Planet is definitely something I'm incredibly passionate about. James Wan's recent sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, marked the end of what came to be known as the Dceu era, and as we head towards James Gunn and Peter Safran's Dcu relaunch, we've decided to rank all 15 movies in the franchise.
Warner Bros.' attempt to establish a shared movie universe in the same vein as The MCU began with Man of Steel in 2013, and despite some bright spots and box office successes along the way, most would agree that it never really took flight - at least not to the level DC fans were hoping for.

Way back in 2016, we got word that a live-action Captain Planet movie was in development at Paramount Pictures and Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way, with Jono Matt and current Hollywood golden boy Glen Powell enlisted to write the script. The Top Gun: Maverick and Hit Man star was also said to be in line to play the title role.
Apparently, this take on the animated series was going to be set "years after the adventures of the show, with the Captain now a washed up hasbeen who needs the kids more than they need him."
Updates have been pretty much non-existent since, but Powell recently confirmed that the project is still in the works, and he's very keen to play the environmentalist hero.

Soon after James Gunn announced that the Justice League in his new Dcu would be played by an entirely different cast, the fans started to speculate several names. After David Corenswet was cast as the new Superman, the fan-casting for the other members also gained hype.
Gal Gadot gained widespread praise for her portrayal of Wonder Woman in the Dceu. She even had a threequel planned before it was scrapped by James Gunn. Despite being disappointed, the fans have been keen to know who will play the next Diana Prince. Now, it looks like people have come up with a new name who can be perfect in the role- Charlee Fraser.

DC Studios' upcoming Green Lantern TV show, "Lanterns," has assembled its writer corps. Co-CEO James Gunn confirmed on Instagram today that the series' pilot script and show bible was written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and DC Comics writer Tom King, who has been part of the DC Universe's creative team since the start.
"Lanterns" was first announced in January 2023, along with the rest of the "Gods and Monsters" slate, as it's been dubbed by Gunn and his fellow co-ceo, Peter Safran. It's a soft reboot for the DC Extended Universe, which fizzled out into a succession of box office bombs, and is currently taking a bit of a breather while Gunn and Safran assemble this massive new slate of films and TV shows. Gunn is also getting personally stuck in, writing and directing the upcoming "Superman" movie reboot and continuing his creative duties on "Peacemaker" for season 2.

The Lanterns Dcu series is putting together a crack team of writers, based on a wonderful pilot script and bible by Chris Mundy, Tom King, and Damon Lindelof,” Gunn captioned his post, which also included a (possible) first look at some concept art for the show. “A hearty welcome to Chris and @damonlindelof as they join the DC Studios family.”
Update: This is actually old comic book art.

DC’s My Adventures With Superman is returning for a second season and the makers seemed to have pulled all the stops to make it a bigger and better follow-up to the hit show. The animated series stars Jack Quaid as Superman and Alice Lee voicing Lois Lane. The show also sees Jimmy Olsen as a significant part of the trio.
While the show has references to multiple other DC characters and artifacts, it has yet to feature one of the IP’s most popular characters Batman. While the show had a reference to Gotham in the first season, producer Jack Wyatt seemed to have a disappointing update about the Caped Crusader’s presence in the second season of the show.

Dwayne Johnson may have leaned into his role as a heel in the WWE, but he has always been savage in and out of the ring. The actor was in character as the ruthless anti-hero Black Adam on multiple occasions and amped up the persona while promoting the 2022 film. While he was cast in the role in 2014, the actor’s solo film only opened years later to mixed reviews.
Johnson had always been promoting his entry into the Dceu and had spoken about the powerful persona of Black Adam. The actor hyped up his superhero and leaned into his anti-hero persona for promotions. The actor responded to a fan who hyped up Jared Leto’s Joker in Suicide Squad in typical Black Adam fashion.

It has been over a decade since Ryan Reynold’s Green Lantern feature dropped, which not only bombed critically and commercially, but its failure led to WB putting the IP on ice. Fortunately, with the new regime in, fans will finally get to experience the Lanterns on the silver screen for the first time since 2011, as they are set to make their Dcu debut in the HBO show Lanterns.

Grant Gustin’s The Flash is considered one of the most prominent superhero shows before it ended after 9 seasons in 2023. The Arrowverse show was first announced as a spin-off to Arrow, where Gustin first appeared as Barry Allen.
While Stephen Amell’s Arrow was a significant hit among viewers, the makers were not sure if The Flash would also bear similar results. However, they knew that even if the show failed, they could not afford to lose Gustin, and cleverly planned to pave a way to make him stay in the Arrowverse.

The Dcu is bustling with various projects underway, from the animated ‘Creature Commandos’ to the highly anticipated ‘Superman’ slated for a 2025 release, and the recently updated release date for ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.’
Among these, the upcoming ‘Booster Gold’ TV show, centered around the titular hero, often flies under the radar.
A recent production listing indicated that ‘Booster Gold’ was set to begin filming on July 8th. James Gunn and Peter Safran were listed as producers, and John Papsidera as casting director. However, this raised eyebrows considering this year was earmarked for ‘Superman,’ ‘Waller,’ and ‘Peacemaker’ season 2. James Gunn himself addressed the speculation on his Threads account, confirming that ‘Booster Gold’ is indeed in development but production is not imminent.
It’s logical to assume that if production were truly imminent, we’d already be inundated with leaks and rumors about casting, costumes, and the overall plot of the show.

Dcu has plenty of projects in the works, starting with the animated ‘Creature Commandos’ to ‘Superman’ bound to be released in 2025, and ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ which recently got a release date update.
One project that is rarely talked about when it comes to the Dcu is the upcoming ‘Booster Gold’ TV Show, focusing on the hero of the same name.
Recently, a production listing stated that ‘Booster Gold’ is entering production on July 8th. James Gunn was listed as producer along with Peter Safran, with John Papsidera being credited as casting director. While this did seem odd since we know that this year was reserved for ‘Superman,’ ‘Waller’ and ‘Peacemaker’ season 2 production, our suspicions were confirmed by Gunn who debunked the whole thing via his Threads account.
Gunn cleared up that ‘Booster Gold’ is still being worked on but production is not imminent.

Ryan Reynolds’ introduction to the superhero realm wasn’t exactly amusing. Not long after playing Deadpool in one of the lowest-rated X-Men entries, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, in 2011, the actor starred as Hal Jordan in the live-action Green Lantern movie. Despite having a huge budget, the movie was criticized for its choppy CGI, especially the suit, which was done entirely in CGI, and the apparent plans of branding it as the first Dceu entry were scrapped.
While Reynolds was able to recoup from his Deadpool debacle, the Lanterns are yet to make their way back to the big screen, and fans have now taken matters into their own hands.

Over a year ago, James Gunn and Peter Safran became Co-Producers and Co-CEOs of DC Studios, even though the Dceu was struggling. Fans were upset because the universe was getting rebooted despite some successful movies among many failures.
Safran and Gunn revealed a list of upcoming movies, including the new live-action film ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.’ With recent updates about the movie, we’ve put together a summary for you.
In ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ the spotlight shifts to a Supergirl who is more world-weary and cynical
‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ draws inspiration from the comic series penned by Tom King. Originally published from 2021 to 2022, the limited series presents Supergirl in a darker, more nuanced portrayal. Following the devastation of her home planet Krypton, Supergirl finds herself marooned on a drifting fragment of her world. Raised amidst harsh conditions and profound loss, she grapples with significant mental trauma, having witnessed...

More than a year ago, James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios as Co-Producers and Co-CEOs, despite Dceu severely underperforming, fans were disappointed and angry. Mostly due to the universe being completely rebooted despite having a few hits among a lot of failures.
Safran and Gunn announced a slate of movies, among them being the new live-action movie ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.’ Considering that the movie recently got quite a few updates, we decided to summarize everything in this neat guide.
‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ will focus on a different, more jaded Supergirl
‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ will be based on the comic written by Tom King. The limited series ran from 2021 to 2022 and painted Supergirl in a much darker light than we’re used to seeing her in. During the destruction of her home planet Krypton, Supergirl was stuck on a piece of the planet that drifted away.

DC Studios' "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters" slate left us with plenty to be excited about, but news of a Booster Gold TV series coming to Max was arguably among James Gunn's most thrilling announcements.
Fans have been waiting a long time to see the time-travelling superhero in live-action, and while Donald Faison briefly showed up in what would become Legends of Tomorrow's series finale following its cancellation, the character has yet to be given the chance to shine on screen (Eric Martsolf briefly played him in Smallville).
That will soon change, and all signs point to Xolo Maridueña's Blue Beetle joining the time-travelling superhero.
A recent Production List update suggested Booster Gold will start shooting in July. Now, scooper @MyTimeToShineH has chimed in, claiming that is indeed the case. Even more exciting, though, is the fact the character has supposedly been cast in the Dcu!

Warner Bros has been dishing out release dates to the likes of Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow and Mortal Kombat 2.
Warner Bros has officially dated several projects that we’ve heard plenty about, giving film fans dates for their diaries.

The first film is of course Superman: Legacy which is set to release in the summer of 2025.
We’ve previously heard noises that this version of the character is going to be harder-edged than previous screen incarnations of the Supergirl character.

As expected, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be the second Dcu movie to release in theaters after James Gunn's Superman. Warner Bros. has just announced that our new Girl of Steel will take flight on June 26, 2026.
The studio also announced dates for New Line’s Mortal Kombat 2, which will hit theaters on October 24, 2025, and Barbarian director Zach Creggar's second feature, Weapons, which will arrive on January 16, 2026.

“Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is set to debut on June 26, 2026 in Imax, the second feature in the newly rebooted DC Universe to secure its place on the release calendar, following James Gunn’s “Superman.” The film stars Milly Alcock (“House of the Dragon”) as the titular Girl of Steel, with Craig Gillespie (“Cruella”) directing from a script by Ana Nogueira (“The Vampire Diaries”).
The project — adapted from a 2022 comic book series of the same title, by Tom King and Bilquis Evely — takes Supergirl away from Earth as she travels through the cosmos with her trusty canine, Krypto the Superdog, in order to escape a life stuck perpetually under the shadow of her cousin, Superman. When Gunn & Safran assumed leadership roles as co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studio, they unveiled plans for a comprehensive revamp of the old Dceu, introducing a multitude of projects spanning live-action films, television series, and animated shows.
While several projects are currently in production, including the highly anticipated ‘Superman’ slated for a 2025 release and ‘Creature Commandos,’ the inaugural project under the newly established Dcu label, one project that has received relatively little attention is the upcoming ‘Booster Gold’ TV Show, centered around the titular hero. However, it appears that this will soon change, as the show has received a significant production update.
As per the Production List, the show is slated to commence production on July 8, 2024, just a few weeks from now. This suggests that DC Studio has likely secured its Booster Gold. Apart from this detail, the production listing is rather limited, which is typical for projects of similar magnitude.

When Gunn & Safran took over DC Studio as co-chairmen and co-CEOs, they announced a complete overhaul of the old Dceu and announced a large number of projects ranging from live-action movies to live-action TV shows and animated series. We know that several projects are currently in production such as ‘Superman’ bound to be released in 2025 and ‘Creature Commandos’ the first project to be released under the newly coined Dcu label.
One project that is rarely talked about when it comes to the Dcu is the upcoming ‘Booster Gold’ TV Show, focusing on the hero of the same name. It seems however that this won’t remain the case for long as the show received a massive production update.
According to the Production List, the show is expected to enter production on July 8, 2024, which is only a few weeks away. Based on that information we can assume that DC Studio has found its Booster Gold.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan has proved his prowess as one of the greatest The Walking Dead villains albeit turning into a soft character in the later seasons and his own solo spin-off venture with Lauren Cohan’s The Walking Dead: Dead City at AMC. But the actor is now aiming for a big DC role, one that even Jason Momoa is vying for.

Momoa, who played Aquaman in the Dceu, has set his eyes on a potential movie based on the interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, Lobo. And with recent comments from Morgan, he would very much like to play the same character as well. However, there might be one problem that would prevent him from playing the role.

In the world of comic books and their movie adaptations, no names come close to the behemoth production houses of Marvel and DC. The studio houses of the respective comic giants have held onto their cinematic universes and solo movies for decades now. In this aspect, Spider-Man from the former and Batman from the latter stands out as not only two of the most widely recognized superheroes around the world but also the characters with the most flicks to their name.
In this saga, two actors, namely John Leguizamo and Jim Carrey, carry their own distinct and disappointing tales of playing villains for such adaptations. While Marvel literally snatched the role out of the former’s hands, the latter’s outing as one of the most famed villains of DC turned out to be one of the worst iterations in comic book history. Interestingly, the Columbian actor still has an...
