We’re now 20 seasons into Grey’s Anatomy. A lot has changed at Seattle’s most famous, fictional hospital over those two decades. But even as main characters come and go, the show that made creator Shonda Rhimes a household name has remained true to its interest in exploring a new feminine ideal.
From its first seasons to its most recent episodes, Grey’s Anatomy focuses on messy, sexy, brilliant, and accomplished women breaking intergenerational curses. It’s the ultimate millennial fantasy and while it’s unclear if that’s life imitating art or art imitating life, the fact is that Grey’s is a rich text on which to build an understanding of millennial women’s dreams and anxieties. It certainly has the ratings and longevity to merit a closer look.

Every season, Bridgerton introduces fans to characters — and actors — who are instantly obsession-worthy. (Lady Whistledown would never spill her ink on anyone who wasn’t.) Prepare to open your heart to a whole new cast, as Queen Charlottetakes her throne in 2023.
The Bridgerton prequel, created by Shonda Rhimes, escorts us into the past, exploring the very beginnings of the love story between Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) and King George (James Fleet) — a rare presence in the original series. Bridgerton universe newcomers India Amarteifio and Corey Mylchreest portray the royals in the early days of their complicated marriage. Queen Charlotte uncovers the long-held secrets of the fictionalized royals, and also offers glimpses into the early days of other Bridgertonfaves — while also checking in on their Regency-era lives.
So, who exactly will you meet on this romantic journey? And which familiar Bridgerton faces can you expect to see...

Tires had a promising debut weekend on Netflix.
Shane Gillis’ comedy series landed on the platform May 23, racking up 3.8M views in its first few days. That was good enough for seventh place on the streamer’s English-language TV charts.
Tires had some tough competition, as Bridgerton Season 3 had premiered with its first four episodes the week prior. Lady Whistledown was taking over the ton, once again, and all three seasons of the Shonda Rhimes series as well as prequel Queen Charlotte were on the list. Baby Reindeer is still making noise for the streamer as well, landing at No. 5 last week.
But, Tires was still tracking ahead of Bridgerton Season 3 on Netflix’s daily Top 10 throughout the weekend, indicating that the comedy series has the potential to gain much more traction. That means it is likely to grow its audience and possibly move its way up the Top 10 in the weeks to come.

The rumors are true, gentle reader: Two luckyfans are getting the Bridgerton-inspiredwedding of their dreams.
The happy news was revealed in February 2024 ahead of the Regency romance’s upcoming third season, which premiered on May 16. Executive producer Shonda Rhimes, Season 3 showrunner Jess Brownell, author Julia Quinn, and cast members — including this season’s romantic leads Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton — were all gathered for the soiree. And now, we can reveal who the lucky pair is: Tiffany Rae and Shanti Hinton, a couple from Brooklyn, New York, who reflect Season 3’s friends-to-lovers storyline.
“It feels great for everyone to know and to see us as a true love match,” Rae tells Tudum. Her spouse, Hinton, agreed, saying, “[After] everything that we’ve been through as a couple, we’re still here, going strong, and rooting for each other. We’re supporting each other, and we’re not taking anything for granted.

While many factors contribute to the overwhelming success Bridgerton has had over the years, one of the most important is the show's appeal to female audiences. Whether you believe in the power of the ‘female gaze’ or not, the way Bridgerton handles romantic dialogue and steamy scenes has a lot to do with its ratings.
Another very important thing is the attractiveness of the male leads. The more viewers are attracted to the main couple, the more willing they are to root for their happy ending. This attraction is also an ultimate factor in choosing your favorite couple. Even Shonda Rhimes, the mastermind behind the show, has her own thoughts on Bridgeton's perfect man.
Shonda Rhimes’ Favorite Bridgerton
While Rhimes has dedicated Penelope Featherington's season to all the wallflowers of the world, and clearly has some personal attachment to the character, it is not Penelope's in-universe love interest that she has chosen for herself.

Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl was once a rising star in movies and television in the late 2000s. However, her career saw a declining graph after she went on to publicly bash her movie with director Judd Apatow. In 2007, Heigl starred opposite Seth Rogen in Apatow’s comedy film Knocked Up. She had brutal criticism for the film in a 2008 interview, where she called the film sexist.

The film also starred Marvel star Paul Rudd and Apatow’s real-life spouse Leslie Mann. The director responded to the comments sharing that he expected an apology from the actress. Interestingly, Apatow earned flak from Tom Cruise’s fans for brutally trolling him while hosting DGA 2023.

On a wall in the top corner of Nkechi Okoro Carroll’s office hangs a photo from THR‘s 2018 Women in Entertainment issue. In it, the All American showrunner appears alongside 61 fellow Black women writers who are part of the Black Women Who Brunch group she co-founded with Lena Waithe and Erika L. The Regency era dominated TV screens during the week of May 17-23, as “Bridgerton” took not one, not two, but three top spots on Luminate’s weekly streaming ranking charts.
In its first full week of availability, Season 3 Part 1 of the Shonda Rhimes-produced Netflix series hit 2.3 billion minutes watched, the No. 1 title by far. Season 1 took second place with 498.6 million minutes watched, followed by Season 2 with 434 million minutes watched. It’s clear that “Bridgerton” will continue to dominate streaming rankings for weeks to come, not only because of the show’s obvious popularity, but because Season 3 still has four episodes yet to come on June 13.
Two titles tied as the next-most-watched of the week: Season 2 of Amazon Prime Video's "Outer Range," which was the No. 4 TV series, and Netflix's "Mother of the Bride," the top movie. Both were watched for 256.4 million minutes in their first full weeks of availability.

Imagine you’re walking the perfectly manicured streets of Grosvenor Square in London. The homes are gilded, the pedestrians are well-heeled, and … it’s 1813. Bridgerton Season 1 opens the doors of these alluring houses, allowing a peek inside the drawing rooms (and bedrooms) of the highborn.
Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) is our guide into this lavish take on Regency-era Mayfair, executive produced by Shonda Rhimes. Daphne is the oldest daughter of eight gorgeous siblings, who are all named in alphabetical order. There are balls to attend, orchestral pop covers to step to, and eligible noblemen to impress. Daphne, dubbed the “diamond” of the 1813 season by Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel), should have her pick of charming bachelors. But a series of mishaps — from those caused by overprotective eldest brother Lord Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) to ungentlemanly advances from an unseemly baron (Jamie Beamish) — put Daphne in an unenviable...

Kim Raver teed up the upcoming Season 20 finale of “Grey’s Anatomy” while on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” Tuesday.
“There’s so much going on, it’s really exciting,” she said. “Where we are now, this season, because of the writers’ strike, we have 10 episodes when we normally have 20, so they kind of jam-packed everything into it. So Ellen [Pompeo] and I have a bunch of stuff in the last two episodes because it’s kind of coming full circle. There’s a great storyline on Teddy’s character kind of was helping her do something that maybe she shouldn’t be doing.”
Teddy (Raver) had been helping to fund Meredith’s (Pompeo) Alzheimer’s research after it was originally shut down at the beginning of the season. Teases for the final episodes hint that the pair’s secret project might be discovered.

Word about the ton is that Bridgerton has once again enraptured Netflix audiences.
Season 3 debuted with its first four episodes last week, attracting 45.1M views — a huge audience for the Shonda Rhimes series.
It’s a bit tricky to compare with Season 2’s audience, since Netflix began reporting “views” in the interim, and it’s split this season into two parts.
The views for Season 3, Part 1 equate to around 180M hours viewed, which is less than Season 2 managed in its own premiere weekend. However, all eight episodes of Season 2 were available at once, allowing for double the runtime to collect those hours. Case in point: Season 2 drew 193M views in its debut weekend, which translated to about 24M views across all eight episodes.
Taking that into account Season 3’s performance is actually quite impressive, even for a series that was already among Netflix’s most popular of all time. It...

Netflix has released the first half of Bridgerton season 3, a new chapter of the series about how young aristocrats find love. The new season broke the order of Julia Quinn's original novels – instead of the story of Benedict Bridgerton, we explore the relationship between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.
Fans Want to See The Love Story of Violet & Edmund
The show spends a lot of time on the young characters and much less on the older ones. Lady Violet Bridgerton mainly helps her children and gives them advice to get settled in life. But sometimes we are shown echoes of her love story with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton, who tragically died at the age of 39 from an allergic reaction to a bee sting.
Lady Bridgerton's rare comments about her late husband are so touching and bittersweet that fans now want to see the love story of the Bridgerton parents as a separate season.

Ever since the phenomenon of Oppenheimer and Barbie took over social media and actual movie theaters in the summer of 2023, the media and casual viewers alike couldn't stop talking about Greta Gerwig's film. It was at the center of the recent awards season and remains one of the most talked about films of the past year.
The problem that many of the viewers who have already seen Barbie have with the film is that it didn't seem to take the feminist ideas in its base far enough to be meaningful. Instead, many left-wing activists ended up dismissing it as populist, and many conservatives still hated it for criticizing the patriarchy.
Now that some time has passed, Shonda Rhimes has returned to the Barbie theme, but with a very different angle.

Now that the upfronts are over, it’s time to hand out much-deserved accolades to those who made this year’s presentations truly unforgettable.
Just remember, everyone’s a winner here. But these folks made the week extra special in New York.
Most Ominous Overture: Kelly Clarkson kicking off a week of upfronts that used to be the sole proprietorship of broadcast networks with tunes like “Whatever Makes You Stronger” and “Since U Been Gone.”
Best Dressed Code Breakers: Men like Bob Iger, Casey Bloys, Mike Hopkins and Rob Wade for appearing without ties. Nothing says we are hemorrhaging money more than a nude neck.
Earworm Award: Beyoncé’s Texas Hold ‘Em and Miley Cyrus’ Flowers that were played on a loop.
Best Joke of the Week: “NBC is launching the new adventure Destination X,” said Seth Meyers at the NBCU upfront. “It was originally titled the Linda Yaccarino story.

Dearest readers: It’s Bridgerton Week at IndieWire. We’re celebrating the new season by diving deep on one of the best romance shows on TV.
When “Bridgerton” first premiered on Netflix at the end of 2020, one could argue it was received with fascination above all. Though executive producer Shonda Rhimes had already built up a brand with elements that viewers would expect from every TV show that bears her name, this collaboration with creator Chris Van Dusen was taking a lot of big swings in its attempt to adapt Julia Quinn’s beloved romance series.
There was the diverse casting, the idea that it was taking the romance TV genre to the most mainstream platform it has ever had, and that it was a costume drama with a noticeable budget at that, but one innovative piece of its success that goes underwritten is the inclusion of an anachronistic score.

1. The Streaming Giants Came to Play Reese Witherspoon attends as Amazon debuts Inaugural Upfront Presentation at Pier 36 on May 14, 2024 in New York City.
This year was the first time that Netflix and Amazon had physical events in New York during upfronts week (YouTube is now in year three), and they clearly tried to make an impression, gunning for a piece of the $20 billion or so in upfront commitments that used to go exclusively to traditional entertainment companies. Amazon’s event Tuesday featured “the highest concentration of...

Based on Julia Quinn’s Romancing Mister Bridgerton Season 3 of Netflix and Shondaland’s Bridgerton watches the friends-to-lovers romance between Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) bloom. While their book comes fourth in the series after Benedict’s love story, the show has moved their installment up in the order of Bridgerton sibling romances. Francesca’s (Hannah Dodd) love story also intertwines more significantly in the expanded two-part season, with Part 1 releasing May 16 on Netflix and Part 2 June 13.
Ahead of Season 3 Part 1’s launch, showrunner Jess Brownell, producer Shonda Rhimes and author Julia Quinn confirmed that an important scene in which Colin cuts his hand would feature in the show. This scene first sparks Colin’s more-than-platonic consideration of Penelope as she bandages his hand. She had been sneaking a look at his diary and reading his writing about his travels, and he gets angry with her,...

This article contains spoilers for Bridgerton season 3 part 1 and Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
Last year, the six-episode limited series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story introduced fans to the beginnings of the world of Bridgerton. Shonda Rhimes combined historical details of Queen Charlotte and King George III’s early years of marriage with scenes featuring Violet, Lady Danbury, and the succession crisis set between seasons 2 and 3.
Den of Geek interviewed Bridgerton showrunner and executive producer Jess Brownell to find out the plans for tying in Queen Charlotte’s backstory into the main Bridgerton series.
Bridgerton season 3 is based primarily on Julia Quinn’s original novel Romancing Mister Bridgerton which centers Colin and Penelope’s storyline. Queen Charlotte has only a fleeting mention later on in the novel series, while Violet and Lady Danbury are present only as supporting characters guiding their families in the Ton. Watching Bridgerton is like picking up your favourite novel and diving right back into it as if no time has passed. The first episode is titled ‘Out of The Shadows,’ it does exactly what it says. The episode starts by introducing a newly married Viscount and Viscountess Bridgterton. The happy Bridgerton family soars on with anxiety about Francesca’s debut while Eloise recovers from two heartbreaks – her fight with Penelope Featherington and her first heartbreak with Theo.
There is so much happening in season 3 that it might feel almost rushed.

A year and a half after Netflix launched an ad-supported tier, the dominant streamer made an upfront pitch — at least in person, in Manhattan — for the first time. There was bragging about the overwhelming statistics of annual hours viewed, a second appearance this week from Jamie Foxx and an open invite for deeper relationships with brands looking to cash in on Netflix’s wildly popular slate. Just ask Mindy Kaling.
“It’s [a series] about a strong woman making it in the male-dominated world of professional basketball,” the writer-producer said of her latest creation for the streamer, Running Point, “and I cannot wait to fill it with commercials about laundry detergent, anti-depression medication, cigarettes, whatever you guys wanna sell … Picture Kate Hudson smoking an e-cigarette.”
“Smoking is so cool,” added Hudson, the series’ star.
Obviously, the duo were hamming it up. (There are still laws about cigarette advertising, right?) Plus, prior to their bit,...

A small group of advertisers were serenaded by Metallica’s Master of Puppets (one of those songs that Stranger Things brought to a new generation) as they walked into Netflix’s first in-person Upfront.
Held at Pier 59 Studios in New York, the event had the feeling of an immersive theater experience with a lot of black t-shirt-clad staff handing out drinks.
It comes as the streamer unveiled a number of new series and films including a new Kevin Williamson drama, a bull riding drama starring Tim McGraw and a slew of sports docs as well as more episodes of 3 Body Problem.
Shonda Rhimes kicked things off, talking up her move from ABC to Netflix, saying that she’s doing things that can’t always be done on broadcast television. “The definition of a Netflix show is one that people like to watch,” she said before introducing a sneak peek of Bridgerton’s third season,...

One of the most popular medical television series, Grey's Anatomy, already has 20 seasons. In 2019, it broke the duration record previously set by ER – 427 episodes against 332. More than three thousand actors have already participated in the show, not many of them are remembered by the viewers, but there is one character who died back in season 11, but is still loved by fans – Dr. Derek Shepherd.
Why Did Patrick Dempsey Leave Grey's Anatomy?
Grey's Anatomy was left without everyone's favorite Dr. Shepherd after Patrick Dempsey had a falling out with showrunner Shonda Rhimes. As it turns out, Dempsey had been complaining about his character's storyline for a long time, implying that he didn't have enough screen time.
The situation was aggravated by the fact that the actor cheated on his wife with one of the assistant producers of Grey's Anatomy. Their affair added to the tension on the set, as many of Dempsey's co-stars knew his wife.

Dearest readers: It’s Bridgerton Week at IndieWire. We’re celebrating the new season by diving deep on one of the best romance shows on TV.
Ahead of the “Bridgerton” Season 3 world premiere, the atmosphere was not unlike that of the megahit Netflix show.
The ton (New York City) was abuzz, its inhabitants eager to impress (dressed to the nines!). Heads turned and whispers rippled through Alice Tully Hall for every actor’s arrival, the same way characters bristle and murmur for their costumed counterparts.
Because “Bridgerton,” as Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria said in her opening remarks, is so much more than a show. It’s a lifestyle brand, marked by the Bath & Body Works soaps and lotions adorning every bathroom; an aesthetic, shared among the evening’s Regency-inspired formalwear; and a fandom, underscored by every collective gasp, giggle, and cheer shared in the theater during Episode...

Bridgertonwhisks fans into a fantasy version of Regency England they’ve never seen before. The series unveils an integrated ton, where biracial romance is embraced and the queen (Golda Rosheuvel) is a Black woman. But, we’re told, the aristocracy wasn’t always so welcoming.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story unfurls the origin story of the “beautiful mixture of humanity” on display in the Bridgerton universe, as executive producer Betsy Beers calls it. At the very core of this tale is the Great Experiment, which kicks off when young Queen Charlotte (India Amarteifio) arrives in England to marry young King George (Corey Mylchreest). The lives of Black socialites like young Agatha Danbury (Arsema Thomas) are revolutionized in the process.
The Queen Charlotte cast, creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes and the other executive producers are ready to answer every question you have about the Experiment that changed the ton forever.

Any marriage that lasts nearly six decades is certainly a story for the ages, especially if it’s rooted in reality, like the one at the center of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
The origins of the 57-year romance between Britain’s King George III and Queen Charlotte are the subject of the series, which was created by Shonda Rhimes and based on characters first introduced on-screen in Bridgerton.
While the British king and queen are very real figures, the six-episode interpretation of their romance is fictional. As the series reminds you in its opening moments, “It is not a history lesson. It is fiction inspired by fact.”
Portrayed in their 1800s iterations by Golda Rosheuvel and James Fleet and as their 1700s predecessors by India Amarteifio and Corey Mylchreest, the royal couple aren’t all that was pulled from history books to create the world of Queen Charlotte. Read...

Season 3 of the steamy Netflix hit will be following the friends to lovers pipeline between Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton, played by Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton.
“When I watched it back, I was more thrilled than I ever thought I would be because I am a very self critical person,” Coughlan told IndieWire. “Luke and I put so much into it.”
With each season facing a different lead couple, Coughlan and Newton reflect on the advice that they received from the previous lead lovers. “Johnny has just been been there with me the whole time,...

Medicine is always about people. That's why Grey's Anatomy, an aspirational show about doctors, is focused on its characters and their inner workings. And over 20 seasons, viewers have found (almost) no serious reason to doubt the talent of the show's creator, Shonda Rhimes.
The group of writers under her leadership describes the characters perfectly: the motivations almost never raise questions, everyone develops according to their personal characteristics, and therefore what happens on the screen becomes easy to imagine in reality.
This is what makes Grey's Anatomy so popular: all the doctors are ordinary people with their own weaknesses and problems. That's why viewers continue to watch the show even after 20 seasons.
At the same time, however, 20 seasons is such a long time that it is sometimes hard to believe. Stability and consistency are great, but fans of medical dramas are long overdue for a breath of fresh air. In addition,...

Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder, Private Practice. Is there a showrunner with a higher number of long-running successful shows than Shonda Rhimes? Hardly so. That's why her 2017 deal with Netflix came as such a shock, after spending more than a decade under ABC's wing.
As fans know, Shonda's Netflix project, Bridgerton, is based on a series of pseudo-historical romance novels by Julia Quinn that tell the story of early 19th-century British high society. There are a total of eight books about the Bridgerton family, the first of which was published in 2000.
All feature the romantic liaisons of Lady Bridgerton's children, and there are (surprise!) eight of them: Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory, and Hyacinth. Shonda Rhimes would not be Shonda Rhimes if she did not create interest in all aspects of her brainchild – now, with the long-awaited third season of Colin and Penelope just a few days away,...

Peak TV may be over, but even in a time of industrywide contraction, another era is forging ahead unabated: Welcome to Peak Franchise TV.
Spinoffs of successful series are almost as old as network TV itself — the first ones premiered in the late 1950s. The current state of the business, however, with its nearly boundless viewing options for both old and new programming, is uniquely set up to reward investment in building franchises. On the broadcast networks alone, the 2023-24 season will feature 21 scripted series that are part of a franchise, defined as a show that has spun off another series set in the same world or is itself a spinoff.
They range from Law & Order: Svu — the longest-running primetime drama in U.S. TV history — to Young Sheldon, the Big Bang Theory prequel that’s set to air its final episodes in May (and which itself will spawn another...

The Kathy Bates-led reboot of "Matlock" may not hit TV screens for a while longer, but in the meantime, fans of the much-loved legal drama can still catch old episodes of the original run, well, pretty much everywhere. For cable-watchers, the show airs reruns in syndication, while home media junkies can get a DVD box set and those who prefer to stream can catch all nine seasons on Prime Video or PlutoTV.
"Matlock" aired for nine years, moving from NBC to ABC partway through its run and switching up its cast list throughout. Though several actors played more than one character throughout the series' run, only a handful appeared in more than 30 episodes of the series, most of them as Ben Matlock's legal associates. Of the main cast, Andy Griffith, Clarence Gilyard Jr., David Froman, and Richard Newton have all since passed away. Several remaining cast members continue...

Variety held their annual Power of Women event Thursday, May 2 at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, in New York City. Honorees included Anitta, Mariska Hargitay, Shonda Rhimes, and Amy Schumer, along with presenters that included Glenn Close, Bela Bajaria, Bruna Marquezine, and Sascha Seinfeld.
IndieWire caught up with Francesca Scorsese, who’s featured as an “Up Next” talent in Variety’s issue, on the event’s red carpet, where she reflected on working with Luca Guadagnino in HBO’s 2020 limited series “We Are Who We Are.” “He’s the most amazing, sweetest guy. Very eccentric, but that’s the best part about him,” Scorsese said. “It was really cool because I got to experience another filmmaker. You know what I mean? John Carpenter wasn’t that impressed with Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer.”
The “Thing” director called Nolan’s Best Picture-winning historical drama just “Ok” in an interview for journalist Larry Fitzmaurice’s “Last Donut of the Night” newsletter.
“‘Oppenheimer’ was Ok. It was alright,” Carpenter said. “Everyone’s praising it as the movie of the century — I don’t know about that.”
But is Carpenter a fan of Nolan’s films in general?
“Yeah, I guess, sure,” he added.
The director instead pivoted and pointed to another 2024 Academy Award contender, saying, “I don’t want to talk about things that I haven’t enjoyed. I liked ‘Maestro’ a great deal. I thought that was terrific.”
And it turns out that Carpenter wasn’t crazy about the “Barbenheimer” craze as a whole. The filmmaker told the “Last Donut of the Night” newsletter his thoughts on “Barbie,” simply stating, “Did I like it?...

Shonda Rhimes was honored at Variety’s Power of Women, presented by Lifetime, in New York on Thursday for her work with the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, a non-profit dance school that offers classes to disenfranchised communities.
Rhimes was aware of Debbie Allen’s work from a young age, having been a fan of her 1980s TV show “Fame.” Years later, Rhimes’ eldest daughter took classes at the academy, and Rhimes and Allen became fast friends. Allen eventually became an executive producer, director and actor on “Grey’s Anatomy,” and in 2022, Rhimes opened a permanent location for Dada in Mid-City.
“They call her Ms. Allen. Her students are aged 3 to 93. They are all sizes, all colors, all abilities, all talent levels,” Rhimes said on stage at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.. “Some are kids like mine — overprivileged. But some are not. Some don’t have homes. Some cannot pay for classes.

A new report suggests that Apple will move to more incentive-based payouts for streaming shows that attract bigger audiences.
There was a moment in Hollywood where big-name TV creators could essentially count on a streaming service to attempt to woo them away from broadcast or cable with an eye-popping contract. Shonda Rhimes departed ABC in 2017 after getting a deal worth at least $100 million from Netflix, and when streamers’ stock prices were on a trajectory to the moon despite balance sheets that showed they lost huge sums of money every quarter, such deals were par for the course. But in 2024, investors are no longer interested in sinking big sums into streamers that can’t show they’re also healthy, profitable businesses, and that has providers rethinking the way they offer creators content deals. A new report from The Ankler indicates that Apple TV+ is mulling changes to the way it offers...

One thing Grey's Anatomy has always been good at is tear-jerking moments. Whether it's the heartbreaking story of a patient or the interpersonal drama between two beloved characters, Shonda Rhimes knows all the buttons to the viewers' fragile hearts, and she's not afraid to push them in order to make great television.
Some of the most emotional scenes in the show come from the episodes at the end of season 8 and the beginning of season 9, where all of the characters deal with the plane crash and its horrific aftermath. Many Grey's fans cite these episodes as some of the most tragic on TV. However, the more we watch them, the more there is to criticize.

Showrunners are the creative visionaries of a series.
They might not be the original creators, but they cover all aspects of the creative elements, evolve the show's vision, and decide where the story and character arcs will go.
They run the writing rooms, head the development, hire writers, and ensure actors are kept happy and that the budget is not exceeded.
Series are usually a collective effort, with writers giving their thoughts, but showrunners have the final say and are essential.
Where would the industry be without people like Shonda Rhimes, Matt and Ross Duffer (Stranger Things), and Ryan Murphy?
It would be mundane and repetitive.
Intelligent and prolific showrunners are the difference between a hit and a flop.
They set an unwavering tone for their ideas, and consistency is vital.
If the reason you fell in love with a series is altered or gone one day, then the connection created is absent,...

Shonda Rhimes argues that 'Barbie' "didn't need to be" a "feminist manifesto".The 'Bridgerton' producer admits that she enjoyed last year's blockbuster featuring Margot Robbie as the iconic toy doll but was disgruntled with the cultural discourse that put unnecessary expectations on the flick.Speaking to Variety, Shonda explained: "Ok, here's what I'll say. If you're expecting a 'Barbie' movie, then I thought it was great."But I think a lot of people were expecting so much more, and then tried to make it so much more. "There was nothing wrong with the movie; I thought it was totally delightful. But the weight people put on a movie about Barbie was very interesting to me."I've heard the song 'I'm Just Ken' in my house every single day because one of my kids sings it all the time. But, yeah, I think that people...
