Following the success of their feature debut, the horror film Talk to Me, the directing duo of Danny and Michael Philippou signed on to make a new film adaptation of the Street Fighter video game franchise, started developing a Talk to Me sequel titled Talk 2 Me, and let it be known that they had already shot some sort of Talk to Me prequel (but it’s not clear if or when we’ll get to see that footage), had an action drama project they’d like to make, and also had a horror script called Bring Her Back that they wanted to get into production. The last film on that list is the one that’s going to be made first, and just last month we learned that two-time Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins of The Shape of Water and Blue Jasmine has signed on to star in Bring Her Back.

While everyone is talking about the next live-action Lord of the Rings film, the Hunt for Gollum, which will include Peter Jackson making a comeback to the franchise, WB Animation has been quietly working on its previously announced Lord of the Rings animated picture.
First revealed in June 2021 during 20th anniversary celebrations of the film franchise, WB shared the first details on The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
Described as an anime movie, the project was subsequently confirmed to be a collaboration between WB Animation and Tokyo-based Solo Entertainment.
Earlier this week, WB Animation confirmed that The War of the Rohirrim would be showcased at next month's Annecy Film Festival and also released three hi-res versions of previously released conceptual images from the film. Specifically, the first footage from the film will be showcased (and hopefully) uploaded near the time of the panel.

The legacy of the great writer J.R.R. Tolkien lives on, but not all of its manifestations are equally successful. After mixed (mostly negative and neutral) reviews of The Rings of Power, it became known that several projects in Tolkien's universe are being planned, but the project that currently attracts the most attention and hopes of fans is full-length anime – The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
What Will The Anime Be About?
The upcoming project tells the story of Helm Hammerhand and the defense of the fortress of Hornburg in Helm's Deep.
The events described above were precipitated by the murder of Freca, the ruler of the lands of the Dunlendings. At one of the councils, he asked for the hand of King Rohan's daughter for his son, to which Helm responded only with ridicule. Then Freca, enraged by the refusal, insulted the king and began to threaten him.

What is the best trilogy of all time? Fans might immediately jump to George Lucas' original "Star Wars" trilogy or maybe Christopher Nolan's more recent Dark Knight trilogy. The more prestige audiences might pull out "The Godfather" trilogy, even if the final chapter doesn't match up to the quality of the first two installments (especially since Francis Ford Coppola revisited them with a superior cut of the final chapter). The indie crowd may put forth Richard Linklater's "Before" trilogy with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy's evolving love story. But honestly, there's really only one answer that makes sense.
Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy is the greatest motion picture trilogy of all time. An incredible feat of blockbuster filmmaking and a box office phenomenon, all three movies were shot back-to-back in one of the biggest risks ever taken by a Hollywood studio on a largely untested filmmaker.

After "The Hobbit" trilogy got a mixed reception (despite being a commercial success) and "The Rings of Power" improved upon the feature films and even turned war from a cool source of thrills into the horror Tolkien described, the "Lord of the Rings" franchise is going back on the big screen where it belongs.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has been threatening new live-action "Lord of the Rings" movies in his quest to just mine every piece of intellectual property the studio owns, but in the meantime, we are getting a brand new story set in Tolkien's legendarium, and there are many reasons to be excited about it. We know for sure that Danny and Michael Philippou, the sibling directing duo behind the Australian horror film Talk to Me (read our review at This Link, watch our interview with the directors in the embed above) are going to be making a sequel to that movie. The film not only racked up over $90 million at the global box office, it also earned praise from the likes of Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, Jordan Peele, George Miller, and Ari Aster… so it was no surprise when A24 announced they had given a greenlight to the a follow-up, titled Talk 2 Me. But while the sequel moves ahead, one person who still doesn’t know if they’re going to be involved with it is Talk to Me star Sophie Wilde.
Talk to Me marked the feature directorial debut of the Philippou brothers, who have a following of over 6 million subscribers on their YouTube channel RackaRacka.

A fitfully taut but fatally underwritten thriller about an affluent white family and the undocumented El Salvadorian housekeepers they decide to shelter — or imprison? — in their dungeon-like basement for days on end as Ice raids sweep through Los Angeles, Augustus Meleo Bernstein’s “At the Gates” seems determined to offer a claustrophobic American twist on “Parasite.” Absent the opulent style and satirical fury that made Bong Joon Ho’s film such a cross-cultural watershed, however, this similarly genre-inflected caricature of socioeconomic inequality turns instead to the looming specter of deportation — and the Holocaust allusions built into its premise — to embellish a story that unfolds across our country on a regular basis.
While that trade-off proves understandable given the stakes at play here, it’s not a trade-off this half-baked exercise in single-location suspense can afford to make. “At the Gates” convincingly argues that self-involved U.S. citizens are blind or...

At the Gates is a thriller that is out now – that is enriched by its social commentary. It also marks the breakthrough role for Ezekiel Pacheco, who we interviewed, alongside his co-star, the more experienced actress Sadie Stanley.
Stanley speaks about having Miranda Otto as her on-screen mother, while Pacheco speaks incredibly highly of filmmaker Augustus Meleo Bernstein, who he feels is heading right from the top – a place he also believes he’ll get to himself. After this performance, you wouldn’t exactly bet against it. Be sure to watch both interviews below, in their entirety.

At The Gates is an entertaining and timely thriller that blends the hot button topic of illegal immigration and undocumented workers into a universal story of fear, paranoia, and the perilous state of our own humanity. That it succeeds to the degree it does is the fact that first time feature writer/director Augustus Meleo Bernstein keeps us guessing as to the intentions and the ultimate fate of its tight circle of main characters. Essentially this is a chamber piece all set in one attractive Los Angeles area suburb’s home and the class drama taking place inside that seems ripped from headlines of individual tragic stories of illegal immigrants who have to worry at any given moment when Ice is going to show up at their doorstep, or in the case of At The Gates, at the doorstep of their employers.

The life of many an undocumented domestic worker is marked by fear. The threat of deportation may feel remote at times, but it hovers over them nonetheless — and structures their experience in ways both big and small. Exploiting such paranoia, Augustus Meleo Bernstein’s provocative if listless “At the Gates” creates a scenario where a housekeeper and her teenage son must trust her employers when Ice agents (or so they’re told) arrive in search of them both. Aiming to be a tense drama about trust, the film struggles to balance the personal and cultural stakes at the heart of its neat conceit.
When Ana arrives at her employer’s lavish home with her son Nico (Ezekiel Pacheco) in tow, she expects that day to be like many before. She’s worked for Marianne (Miranda Otto) and Peter Barris (Noah Wyle) for months now and takes pride in what she does.

A24 hit big with their acclaimed horror movie Talk to Me earlier this year, which is now available on Digital outlets with a 4K and Blu-ray release set for October 3, 2023.
In celebration of the film’s Digital release today, A24 has also put up for grabs a screen-accurate replica of the “Party Hand” from Talk to Me, and it’s available now in their shop!
In the film, the mysterious prop is said to be the severed, embalmed hand of a powerful medium, and it’s used to conjure spirits. The basic gist is that you hold the hand and speak the words “talk to me” aloud, inviting in whatever the hell decides to come through from the other side. From there, you can let go of the hand or let the spirit inside of you. The latter option is essentially the film’s unique version of getting high, becoming...

Everyone knows that it's an awfully self-destructive idea to let the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes drag on in perpetuity, harming countless below-the-line crew members, theater owners, and more who rely on the film and television industries to make a living -- everyone, that is, except for the AMPTP themselves, apparently. We recently wrote about one of the latest dominoes to fall as the highly-anticipated "Dune: Part 2" was pushed back to next year, becoming the latest casualty of the studios' abject refusal to present reasonable counterproposals in good faith as the sides struggle to work out a fair contract. Now, fantasy nerds are the latest fans to be victimized by the producers' unwillingness to, frankly, get their s*** together.

Stand back, Marvel Cinematic Universe. Be gone, DC Extended Universe. The power of The Conjuring Universe compels you!
It may astonish those who aren't horror fans or haven't been paying attention, but 2013's "The Conjuring" has not only spawned two direct sequels, but two entire spin-off film franchises that are still going strong: the "Annabelle" series and "The Nun" films. In fact, the latter's latest installment — oh-so-helpfully entitled "The Nun II" — is due to haunt theaters everywhere on September 8, 2023.
If you can't quite recall where and when we last saw the only married demonologist team in the tri-county area, Ed and Lorraine Warren, or if you're having trouble separating your La Lloronas from your Valaks, fear not! The following will not only get you up to speed with the ghouls, demons, and ghosts of The Conjuring Universe, but it will also lay out the tangled timeline of the entire series in chronological order.

New Line’s new animated movie, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, is moving from its April 12, 2024 release date to Dec. 13 next year.
The move stems from a chain-reaction of Warner Bros re-dating today, spurred by Legendary Entertainment’s Dune: Part Two going from Nov. 3 this year to March 15, 2024, which then pushed that financier and producer’s other title, Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire from that date to April 12, 2024. Dune: Part Two had to move had to shift on account of the unavailability of its cast to promote during the actors strike.
War of the Rohirrim will now face off on its new December date against Sony’s reboot of The Karate Kid.
The anime feature, directed by Kenji Kamiyama, is set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original New Line Lord of the Rings trilogy. Those Peter Jackson movies, in addition to his Hobbit trilogy,...

A24 has a hit on their hands with their latest horror movie Talk to Me, which is performing so well at the box office that a sequel – yes, it’s titled Talk 2 Me – is already on the way.
But what about a replica of the hand that the characters in the movie use to conjure spirits from the other side? Fans have been begging for it on social media in recent weeks, and A24 posted a tweet this morning that suggests replicas of the Talk to Me hand are coming soon!

A24 is going all in on a new horror franchise as the studio is officially developing a sequel to this summer's sleeper hit "Talk to Me." Directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, the film hit theaters less than two weeks ago against rave reviews from the festival circuit earlier this year. Audiences responded kindly and the studio wasted zero time in giving the sequel the go-ahead.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the follow-up is aptly titled "Talk 2 Me." Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman are set to pen the screenplay, while the Philippou brothers will once again return to the director's chair. Plot details remain under wraps at this time. The first movie focuses on a group of friends who discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand. They become hooked on the new thrill of it all until one of them goes too far and unleashes malicious supernatural forces.

Last week, we shared a quote from Danny and Michael Philippou, the sibling directing duo behind the Australian horror film Talk to Me (read our review at This Link, watch our interview with the directors in the embed above), where they said they wouldn’t be able to resist making a sequel to their film if they were given the opportunity. Now Deadline reports that they are getting that opportunity. The Philippous are officially working with A24 on a sequel titled Talk 2 Me!
Danny Philippou previously said that he already had scenes and set pieces in mind for a follow-up, so it sounds like he’s going to be able to bring them to the screen now. He wrote the screenplay for Talk to Me with Bill Hinzman, who just happens to share a name with the late actor who played the Cemetery Ghoul in George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead...

The mockbuster industry is a fascinating entity. Chief among the studios that specialize in mockbusters (ie. low-budget knockoffs of popular studio titles) is The Asylum, the company behind the "Sharkando" films. In 2023 alone, The Asylum has released a riff on "Cocaine Bear" titled "Attack of the Meth Gator," the latest installment in its "Transformers" ripoff franchise, "Transmorphers: Mech Beasts," and its own animated version of "The Little Mermaid" featuring the voices of Steve Guttenberg and "E.T." star Dee Wallace. And they say cinema is dead!
Shane Van Dyke, the grandson of acting legend Dick Van Dyke, got his start as a writer on the mockbuster circuit, penning films like "Titanic II," "Paranormal Entity," and "Transmorphers: Fall of Man" for The Asylum in the late aughts. A few days ago, we shared a snippet of a Hollywood Reporter interview with Danny and Michael Philippou, the directors of the Australian horror film Talk to Me (read our review at This Link, watch our interview with the directors in the embed above), in which they said they wouldn’t be able to resist making a sequel if they are given the opportunity. Now The Hollywood Reporter has revealed an even more exciting bit of news: the Philippou brothers have already filmed a prequel to Talk to Me!
Talk to Me features a character named Duckett, played by Sunny Johnson – and when The Hollywood Reporter directly asked the Philippous if they have been talked about making a Duckett prequel, Danny answered, “We actually shot an entire Duckett prequel already. It’s told entirely through the perspective of mobile phones and social media, so maybe down the line we can release that.

A24 gave the Australian horror film Talk to Me a theatrical release this past weekend – and while the movie was expected to draw in around 4 to 5 million, it actually exceeded expectations and had an opening weekend of $10 million. That’s very good for a movie that reportedly had a budget of $4.5 million, and could be the first step on the path to a sequel. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, directors Danny and Michael Philippou, who have a following of over 6 million subscribers on their YouTube channel RackaRacka, said they wouldn’t be able to resist making a sequel if they are given the opportunity.
While discussing the end of the film, Danny said, “Part of me is like, ‘Yeah, maybe it is done.’ The other part of me is like, ‘Oh, my God. Give me a sequel, please.’ I’ve got these set pieces that I’m like,...

A24 released their latest critically acclaimed new horror movie Talk to Me in 2,340 theaters here in the United States over the weekend, with early projections anticipating a roughly $5 million domestic total for the opening weekend. But positive word of mouth and strong buzz allowed the film to shatter those expectations, scaring up $10 million over the weekend.
The official number for the weekend is $10,028,632, giving Talk to Me the #6 placement on the domestic box office charts during the #Barbenheimer phenomenon’s second weekend.
Directed by brothers Danny and Michael Philippou, Talk to Me was made on a reported production budget of just $4.5 million, which the movie was able to earn back in its first day of release. Important to note, however, that A24 acquired the film out of Sundance for a reported “high seven figures,” and the company also spent a good deal of money to market the release.
