A flash-black to 1990 explains how Winter's relationship with his newly revealed partner started. Things escalate, both at Winter's residence, and in detention where Nicole chooses to stand her ground. Chance reveals his earlier history to his ex-wife who is very displeased to learn that she is the last to know. Nicole's detention event causes the prosecution to ramp things up. Chance and D get shocking news. Nicole's relationship with her mother strains. Winter is, now predictably, treated very leniently over the events at his home. More is revealed about Winter in a flashback to 2006. Dr. Clayton investigates further into who is stopping the offenders of the victims they treat. Winter turns away from Chance. D starts to train Nicole. Another flash-black to 2013 reveals exactly how Winter is enabled. Chance reveals his information on Winter to the ADA who says it's not usable. Winter and his accomplice figure out the connection between Chance and Hynes and decide to make Chance pay. Nicole's case gets a surprise character witness. D worries about Lorena who seems to have vanished. Nicole and her mother have a big fight, and external support is called in. Winter and Lucy's romantic relationship comes to an end.

As the season coming to its end, the fogs starting to clear, but our characters' journey on the uncharted sea of their own minds continues. Winters is now in custody, Lambert tries to get himself in charge of the case in order to save his own skin. Whereas the former still sinking in the conflict of his own, trying to understand what drives him to commit to things he has done and things that he's still trying to do. While Lambert is busy covering his own footprints on his involvement of Winter's murders, Chance also has discovered a connection between the good DA and past evidence. On the side plot, Nicole continues the journey her mother forced her upon, and Kristen Clayton's road to connect the dots between the unit's victims and the big bald guy has become clearer. Dee keeps on his path of finding Lorena, knowing it will only lead to danger, he finds himself in a spot that his past experience might not be enough to get him out of. Chance's worries about others finding out what he's been doing outside his work in the unit has caught on with him. How can our vigilante duo get over of their obstacles in their path that is inevitable?
