After enjoying a long period of peace, Great Bend is rocked by the return of Cole Younger who kidnaps Eli. Hoyle must deputize Vernon Shank once again to rescue him.
When a gambling disagreement at Honey's Saloon gets out of hand, one of Honey's best girls is struck and killed by a stray bullet meant for Hoyle. Hoyle detains the perpetrator, but has to defend him against a mob lead by Honey who is out for justice.
Hoyle and Wanda follow the trail of an opium gang after a train runs over her boyfriend. Back in town, Livinia, Honey and Shank enjoy the services of Dr. Heng who is treating "hysteria" with a new device called "The Manipulator."
Newlyweds, Eli and Pearl move outside of Great Bend to live on the farm Eli inherited after a horrible grasshopper swarm overtakes the town. Meanwhile, Hoyle is persona non grata in Great Bend as bullets mysteriously whiz past his head.
Hoyle, Eli and Shank return to Nicodemus, a town populated entirely by freed slaves, to sell off Eli's cattle. When the cattle drive doesn't go as expected, Hoyle enters Eli in a rodeo to win the cash.
Vernon Shank seeks to unseat Mayor Dodge as Great Bend's mayor. The race heats up when Shank's sister and campaign manager is murdered and found in Dodge's bed.
Hoyle responds to reports of gunfire at the Younger hideout where Ephraim and Cole are the lone survivors. Hoyle convinces Ephraim to tell Cole's location for a pardon on his crimes. Hoyle and Eli race to track down Cole in San Francisco.
Hoyle's wife Myra unexpectedly resurfaces. Honey must come to grips with her feelings for Hoyle. It becomes clear that a storm is brewing in Great Bend and Myra is at the center of it.
Honey accuses Myra of using Hoyle to pave the way for Sam Starr to come to town and kill Cole Younger. Honey's warnings fall on deaf ears and the fearsome Starr clan descends on Great Bend, wreaking havoc on anyone who stands in their way.
