This show has never really hit its stride (depressing seeing as it's only episode 3), and doesn't help itself by making Patricia Heaton's character very unlikable whenever she gets a rare win at work.
The subplot here, I kid you not, is one of the trainees trying to replace the muffin they ate that belonged to their boss.
It tries to slow down and have a heartfelt moment at the end, but because all of the supporting characters are such cardboard cut out/standard sitcom types it doesn't really work because we just don't care enough about them.
It's amiable enough, but weak.
