This film takes brief look at the film director F. W. Murnau, a silent film era director who had an enormous impact on the film industry in his use of lighting, camera techniques and artistic perspective. The documentary moves along at a good pace and supports what is being said with pictures and film clips. Overall a good piece for a general look at Murnau;the film is biographical and not riddled with technical film study jargon, making it a good film for introductory level film studies, or any interested party, to gain an overview of Murnau's work as pertaining to the use of light/shadows and artistry. I viewed the English version of the film, provided as supplementary material for a college course after watching Murnau's version of Tartuffe (Herr Tartüff) in class. If I am not mistaken, the documentary was a bonus portion of the DVD from which we watched the film in class, rendered as an online movie clip.
