In this episode of BONES, Brennan discovers that remains of her mother have been in the Medico-lab for practically seven years! Booth makes it a top priority to find out who killed her as Zach finds while looking over the skull a hematoma. This episode is important in the ongoing storyline in regards to Brennan uncovering her past, making amends with her estranged parolee brother Russ(Lorean Dean) who is just as much a victim as Bones, learning of how mother and father were crooks linked to a dangerous strong-arm group. This strong-arm group may've hired a hit-man, a "mechanic" who likes to crush the foreheads of his victims. We see how the Jeffersonian team stop at nothing, including working long hours, so that Brennan's mother's killer would be brought to light/justice. This episode further establishes the true friendship between Booth and Brennan, a relationship which transcends some soap opera romance, that is touching and enriching. Good evolution in the character of Brennan, who finds that her real name isn't Temperance, with a strong performance from Deschanel.

Such a good finale!

I loved that we got to meet Russ. I loved how they reconciled their relationship at the end, or at least started to.
I loved How Booth was indignant the whole episode about how Bones wouldn't let him read her book ahead of time!
It's nice to see that Bones "boyfriend?" Was cool with it being apparent that Booth is the main cop guy in her books. He doesn't seem to have that hostile masculinity thing. Which is great!
I felt Bad for Bones throughout the episode because of her mom.
But loved the reveal at the ending about her dad!
Great season finale!

Man does a lot happen in this episode, there's so much to discuss that you'd need a roughly 2 hour long podcast to get through it all (wink wink).
Not only does Bones finally gets some answers about her parents, I think she also realizes she has her own little family now. Everyone on the team is determined to find the truth for Bones. I'm also happy that she ultimately makes up with her brother, she deserves a good relationship with him. All in all, a wholesome yet sad episode with a lot of good friendship and Bones and Booth moments.
Things to note: Is this the episode where Bones becomes vegetarian? Booth called Bones 'Temperance' 😍. This scene: Bones: I miss that. Someone caring where I am all the time Booth literally a second after: Bones you up there?
A line I loved: In that case, we'll still ruin his day

Nicely plotted, allowing an expansion of Tempe's story. When a skull is identified as her mother, it leads to a huge can of worms, including the reappearance of her brother, Russ. Brennan has been carrying anger inside her for the longest time and blames her brother for abandoning her after her parents disappearance. Much of the charm of this is watching Brennan deteriorate while she goes through the processes of putting aside her fury and getting down to business. We find out that her parents were involved in some shady dealings and were not the simple, reserved creatures she imagined them. I thought this was the best of the first season.
Hi Bones Booth!!!

This episode was amazing alot to love about it. It was great seeing more of the past and background of Bones. As someone who lost their mother a few years ago and has a largely absentee father I saw it through a different lens this rewatch and felt so heartbroken for Bones and Russ. I am so happy that she got to reconnect with her brother. I agree with Zack limbo is a very appropriate name for the bone storage. Angela asking the important question "Did you Polo?" Lol. Yes absolutely Bones how could anyone use that thing on a pig or any animal? Wong Foos!!!
What happened to my Mother?
mitchrmp12 July 2016
At the beginning of this episode, Brennan is devastated to learn that some remains left at the Jeffesonian are those of her mother. Booth is the first (after Brennan) to discover this and works hard to comfort her and help her learn how her mother died.
There were hints throughout the season that her parents were missing and we knew it was only a matter of time before that story was written. This is a story that is never really resolved, as far as I can tell. Even in Season 10, Max states that there are things she just doesn't know. This story evolves over the seasons.
Again, the writer's do such a good job with the complicated relationship Booth and Bones have. Though she has a boyfriend, she turns to Booth for comfort and help. She cries in his arms and throughout this episode there are several times he chases everyone out of the room so he can speak to her alone.
And ohmygosh, what Booth finds at the very end of this episode is just...it shows just how deeply she cares for Booth.
A cliff hanger is added at the end that promises Season 2 will be interesting!
Oh, and Bones makes the comment of "I just may now be a vegetarian after this." She actually already was one...

Utter Disappointment

After 12 seasons one would expect more from a finale. This felt more like an episode of the week and not even a compelling one. Very little emotional conclusion and just seems like a season end building to next year. But there is no next year so it was a fizzle.
